Ooohhh minibreak!!!…read more If you're looking for somewhere to escape the Dublin rat race then try this secluded, cosy hotel in Enniskerry. Beautiful interior, roaring fires, gorgeous meals, and a day spa attached - ooh heaven! I recently took myself to the Summerhill House Hotel for a solitary weekend of rest and relaxation... that was the plan, anyway... The weekend started off quietly enough, with a luxurious midday check-in and a mid-afternoon massage.. ahh it's a tough life! Continuing on, I enjoyed a sumptuous three-course meal in the hotel's restaurant and was waited on so attentively I could have sworn I'd had my own personal waiter... relaxing? Yes... Next, it was a turn in the drawing room, a seat in a grandfather chair next to a roaring fire, snow outside and a Christmas tree in the window... absolutely divine, and still relaxing... And then I discovered the wedding party in the next room... Soon enough I was invited to join the celebrations of the happy couple, and ended up ripping up the dancefloor until the early hours of the next morning, my plan of a good book and an early night completely thwarted. Relaxing?? Hmmm, no... Good craic? Absolutely! So there you have it... the Summerhill House Hotel has all the makings of a relaxing getaway, whether it's on your lonesome, as a couple, or with a group of girlfriends. However, how you choose to spend your stay is completely up to you... I've heard they have weddings there almost every weekend ;-)

Nice little place to stay for a short weekend break away…read more It's not the most modern hotel, but the friendly staff, the relaxed atmosphere and the fantastic surrounding area make well up for that. The rooms are huge (unfortunately our view included the looks over the parking area, but you could still make out how nice the surrounding was) equipped with decent beds, an ok size bathroom, free wifi and tvs. The spa area is ok & the staff very friendly. After a relaxing massage we wanted to check out the remaining area - the changing rooms were great - fully stocked with cosy towels, slippers, bath robes, but the steam rooms & sauna were closed and the outdoor jacuzzi was cold. Whatever we did we could not manage to get the temperature above 27 degrees which was rather disappointing since it was a cold drizzly Jan night perfect for chilling in hot tube. After a short stay in the luke warm jacuzzi we made our way back to the hotel restaurant for dinner. Free cocktails were served as aperitif, however, they could not make up for the poor service in the restaurant. The waitress must have been new since she was not trained at all - had no clue about the wine list, put the bottle of wine we ordered unopened on the table (thank god it was a screw top otherwise we'd still sit in front of the unopened bottle) and brought the sides to our main courses 10 mins after the main course arrived (without telling us the sides are still coming...) We bared the whole situation with a big smile since everyone has to start somewhere & the hotel atmosphere was way to relaxed and nice to get upset about small little things. The food itself was tasty, but nothing extraordinary (I can remember I liked it, but that's about all I can remember...). The breakfast the next morning was much better - good buffet style breakfast with a decent choice of food and a great selection of teas - it is so hard in this country to find anything but black tea at breakfast buffets so I was very happy with my huge selection of available fruit teas. Overall I am not sure if I would go back, but it was a nice break for a weekend and ok value for money.

This hotel was spacious and nice but I can't say clean or well kept. When you walk in the door you…read morecan immediately tell they try to mask the antique smell of the building with overpowering scents. The staff is nice enough to let you leave you bags by the counter if you need a place to keep them before or after check in/out. Our room was clean but staying there about 4 nights I noticed a lot. For starters why are the #500 rooms and #200 rooms on the 3rd floor while #300s are on the 2nd. That was downright confusing. But not concerning. I also found thumbtacks on the staircase one of which had already been stepped on and bent. It remained in place the entire time we were there. Vacuum much? Now for our room. Beds seemed clean. Tables clean. The t.v was the worst. It took us about 45 minutes in total over the course of 2 days to figure out how to turn it on. Has anyone had to channel up+ on to turn a t.v on? The shower head was horrendously cared for as half the water coming out of it poured down the back of it (picture provided). One of our towels had a bleeched out blood stain. Nasty! Bleeched I know but still. They don't offer tea or coffee in the lobby, something a lot of American hotels do. So I went to make tea with the electric kettle provided I opened it to find water already in it and it had so much grime on the bottom I cold swipe it with my finger (picture provided). EW! Now our room was just adjacent like many others to their dance hall. Note that many people on vacation like to get up early and go do things. But it's very hard when the hotel welcomes huge celebrations to continue till midnight. Least to say both Friday and Saturday night we only got about 5.5 hours of sleep before getting up as we had planned the days before. If I ever return to Bray Ireland I will never stay here again.

Friendly staff; old hotel We stayed three days recently…read moreright after the three weeks unusual dry and hot period in Ireland. The hotel is old so set your expectation accordingly. Staff is very friendly. However, due to the unusual warm temperature, and the hotel has no A/C or celling fans, the rooms were quite hot. Windows could not open much so it stayed stuffy and uncomfortably warm during the night. Guess it is not usual occurrence as the front desk ran out of portable fans for guest rooms as well. We stayed in the newer expanded section of the hotel but the room is still kind of old looking and small. Room has an old tube TV that took up quite a bit of the space. Otherwise, the room is ok and seems to be clean enough. The hotel is about 10 minutes walking distance from the train station so it was easy to get around. If you are driving, like most places around the area, the parking lot behind the building is not too big and the driveway is pretty narrow. Just beware. Overall, the hotel has character and has been around for many years. Also right across the street from the ocean. Highly unlikely that you would get an ocean view room (if that matters to you) as majority of the rooms are facing the side or the parking area.
