This review is coming in hot. I would NOT recommend this hotel, unless you're okay with multiple "minor" inconveniences and subpar treatment as a guest. As popular as this place is supposed to be, perfectly snuggled in Dublin's city center, it still leaves much to be desired. Upon arrival, everything went well. The front desk associate who checked me in was pleasant and efficient from the moment I approached the counter. The dilemma began after I went to the first room I was assigned (room 420), which was tiny and cramped but that wasn't too surprising as some European hotels are. However, the floor was sticky, literally sticky and as soon as I removed a hanger the entire rack collapsed. On top of this not being the type of room I pre-booked, I swiftly gathered my things and went back down to the front desk to inform them about what happened and request a new/better room. The manager then stepped in and instead of honoring my legitimate request, instead he said I will escort you back to room 420 to see if it can be fixed (as if he did not believe what I expressed). So, we went back to the room, he saw the problem and said if I could wait he'd send a maintenance guy in 15 minutes to fix the closet rack. I said no, I would like a new room. Then, I was given a new room in another part of the building that required two elevator trips. It was a trek, which is cute in the beginning, but dare not forget anything in your room. You'll be left contemplating if it's worth the back and forth. This room was much bigger, much better, much cleaner, all around what I'd booked and expected from the jump. The manager was not as kind or accommodating as the associate I interacted with initially. So already, day one, this hotel was losing stars. I was told the journey to the newer rooms is so long and so far because some of the hotel is under constructions and they haven't connected everything. Then, the heat in my new room was not working. It was extremely cold. I called the front desk, the maintenance guy came, and he basically said it's a big room so the best we can do is bring a space heater. That did help tremendously. Even the hallways (old side vs new side) were worlds apart. The old side, which I had to pass through to get to the second elevator, had a very strong and strange odor. The new side had a fresh smell daily. The housekeeping staff were courteous. Tip: if you ever lodge at this hotel, make sure to request a NEW room, and you'll know if it's new because those room numbers have 4 digits. If you're given a 3 digit room be warned and beware. Always advocate for yourself! The best part of my stay and the reason why I am giving 3 stars instead of 2 is for the breakfast. It was delicious and the hours were good (645am to 1030am). read more

We stayed here our first night in Dublin as we kicked off our tour of Ireland. The hotel was quite nice--upscale, clean, modern. The staff were kind and engaging. It's right on a Main Street and within (somewhat) close waking distance to Croke Park. Will keep this on my list of places to stay again next time I visit Dublin. read more

This hotel lives up to all the expectations. I arrived and goodies were in my room. I turn 53 in a few days, and they reminded me. From the moment I walked through the doors, the service was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. The staff went out of their way to make sure I felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout my stay. The location is unbeatable - right on O'Connell Street, making it easy to explore Dublin on foot. I was able to walk to many of the city's top attractions, shops, and restaurants, and public transportation is just steps away for anything further out. My room was spotlessly clean, modern, and comfortable, with a plush bed and everything I needed for a relaxing stay. I especially appreciated the little touches, like complimentary water, high-quality toiletries, and a well-designed workspace. Breakfast was another highlight! The buffet was outstanding, offering a wide variety of fresh options including hot dishes, pastries, fruit, and great coffee. The dining room was busy but well-organized, and staff kept everything replenished with friendly efficiency. Even with its elegant and historic charm, the hotel feels updated and well-maintained, combining character with comfort. The lobby and common areas are beautiful, making it a lovely place to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Overall, I am having a fantastic experience (I depart November 7, 2025) and would definitely recommend the RIU Plaza The Gresham to anyone visiting Dublin--whether for business, a quick getaway, or a city break. Absolutely the worst hotel experience ever. The staff and management put us in a room at the back of the hotel that they knew was having work done between 10 and midnight. They never told us it was taking place. It was unbeleivably loud! I complained but apparently no managers work during the night! I wrote a complaint but was informed it had to go to the head office, they made me fill a seperate complaints form in and then told me there was nothing they could do about it bc we booked through Booking.com. seriously, you cannot make this rubbish up. To top it all off the side roads around the hotel are full of aggressive junkies. First time I have ever witnessed a mugging in broad daylight. We shan't be returning read more

Stayed here at the start of our week of Collette tour of Ireland. Rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was a zoo with two tour groups competing for the buffet. But it worked out. So at the end of the our week we decided to stay another night with the help of credits from previous Collette tours. However, the room they gave us is small and cramped for space, lacking some of the amenities we had earlier in the week. Very disappointing! But staff is lovely and very helpful. Just not sure we got what we paid for. read more

The hotel itself was lovely; however, we had an ufortunate experience involving a missed wakeup call. This caused us to miss a scheduled tour that we subsequently had to rebook and pay for out of pocket. We were told the call was ordered and put through, but our phone never rang. The desk manager had no customer service skills whatsoever. He offered no sympathy much less any recompense for the cost of the tour. Two days later, we ordered another wakeup call to see what would happen. This time, having learned our lesson, we backed it up on our mobile phone. Again the room phone didn't ring. Within a minute or two, a staff member knocked on our door at the appointed time and announced he was our wakeup call. When I asked him why we hadn't gotten a ohone call, he said the phone wasn't working. It seems suspicious that we were told the phone was working perfectly one day, and then two days later it clearly wasn't. We wrote to Riu corporate asking again for repayment for the tour and were denied. read more

Very uncomfortable, undergoing construction, rooms are tiny, one pillow per person, not even a waste can in the restroom. Had start the shower and wait for about 5 minutes for the hot water to come out. Low quality Toiletries (will have to go out to buy some), the room wasn't ready at check in time and the a/c wasn't working. In short, a disaster. (Room 418) UPDATE: changed my review from 1 star to 2. Because after complaining to the managers, etc they moved us to another room, Room 568. The new room was larger than the first one, the a/c worked and didn't have the hot water problem. But the rest of the issues remained the same. Also, had to go to buy the essentials (soap, shampoo, conditioner, body cream). And when I finally washed my hair realized that the room didn't have a hair dryer. The only two positive things about this hotel is the restaurant Toddy's and the location. The staff needs training ASAP. read more

We enjoyed our stay at the Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin for several days over NYE. Great location - very walkable to many of Dublin's highlights. The staff was welcoming from the time we walked in and the Irish breakfast buffet was very good. We had a great time here while visiting Dublin. The staff were very attentive and polite. The free breakfast was one of the best I've had and you could even make yourself a cappuccino or latte. Uros was so helpful and kind to us. We arrived 12 hours before check in due to our flight and he was able not only to accommodate us but even upgraded the rooms. The service in the hotel is 5 star but the rooms and comfort is more like a 3 star- balancing out to a 4 star in the end. The staff at this hotel are really exceptional. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and cannot do enough for you. Also the breakfast is a great option that was free on our stay there, as there is a ton of choice. The bar area is also pretty nice. The downside is the rooms feel dated. It does not quite feel like a 4 star, and they are a little on the small side too. The hotel is pretty big too so my room was quite a long walk- which I do not mind, but for those less mobile be sure to ask for something closer to the lifts. read more

Can you give less than one star? Don't be fooled by the welcoming lobby, this place is an absolute disaster. I have stayed in 100s of hotels in my lifetime, can't think of any one that has been worse than this. We were "upgraded" to the new section of the hotel which I'm not sure if that was a joke or not. Two different elevators, floors that don't make sense (take elevator 1 to floor 2, walk down the mile long hallway in the dark with no signage and take elevator 2 to level B), no amenities, not even water in the room. No carpeting in hallway or room so incredibly loud could hear everyone in the hallway breathing. Bed was what I imagine the earliest humans may have found comfortable after upgrading from rocks (would've been a close call). Single pillow on each bed, similar texture and feel to concrete. Pro: Shower was nice. Breakfast was included (started at 7, we checked out at 5). Cons: Anything that you can think of and sprinkle no Irish charm on top read more

General manager was quite hostile and loud in lobby when I wanted to speak to him about my room I was accused of videoing from my room which is true I was told not to stay in city center it was not by choice. My room was right outside of delivery dock with all day and night activity. Huge trash bin filled removed refilled toilets what not from never ending hotel construction poor renovations. I have a video of me actually touching entire length of truck as it passed my room. GM refused to watch said it was impossible. Shame used to be such a nice hotel. Spent the last 2 days of our vacation in Dublin at this hotel. Shortly after settling in, we decided to take a walk. My husband sat down just outside the front steps of the hotel for a couple minutes to plan our afternoon. Seconds later, a man on a bicycle with a hooded sweatshirt rode by and snatched my husband's cell phone from my his hands! My husband tried to chase the cyclist but was unable to stop him. The Police were called and they were able to get the video camera footage. It slowed the cyclist riding off, placing the cell phone in his pocket and my husband chasing him. The footage did not show the man's face, so the Police were unable to apprehend. After the fact, we learned that this has happened multiple times at this hotel. The phone was never recovered. The manager does not feel it is his responsibility to inform his customers of the phone thefts in the area but the responsibility of ONLY the Travel Agent! The manager of the hotel stated he had confronted the young man who has been stealing phones in the area, even knows what vicinity he lives in! The hotel may be nice but the manager has NO concern, care or customer service!! read more

This hotel looked quite promising from the photos, the outside, and the lobby...but that's where it ended. The hallways are quite odd and makes you feel like you are in the movie 'The Shining'. When we opened the door to our room, a Junior Suite, we were met with a nice and potent musty smell. We ignored that in an effort to give benefit of the doubt. I took a shower about 5 minutes after arriving and quickly realized that the water was not draining out of the shower. I soon had a swimming pool where I was standing. After letting it drain and finishing my shower, I used the toilet and low and behold...it wouldn't flush. It took 3 flushes to cycle out the water. Fast forward 5 hours to 3am, and we are awoken by the sound of leaking water; a sound you never want to hear. Thankfully it was only the shower head, but it decided to have a spontaneous late night go. The shower was completely off but water came through anyway. Breakfast the next morning was filled with lovely egg substitutes and items that even the staff couldn't identify. We asked for coffee and received coffee that was so hot we were unable to drink it for 10 minutes, even after pouring milk into it. We informed the front desk manager upon check out and he was moderately care free. He asked if we had paid already and when I informed him that I had, his attitude changed to a less concerned one and apologized quickly and wished us the best. TL;DR: This is a 3 star hotel, and we have no idea where they got the 4th star. They don't deserve it. read more

This hotel has been around forever, I can remember my parents staying here whenever they'd go to shows in Dublin. I most recently stayed here two weeks ago for a couple of nights and was very impressed with the service and location. While the rooms aren't as nice as the Westin, the price point is pretty good and the rooms were comfortable. One of the biggest perks is the free wi-fi in the rooms and it felt good not to get ripped off paying for internet. I tried out the fitness centre (basically a small hotel room with some equipment in it) and found that it met the needs. The cocktails at the bar were good and they had a vast selection of whiskeys. I stayed here with my husband and 7 month old baby last week and it was a wonderful stay. We had emailed the hotel prior to staying asking if the hotel had a baby bed and microwave to sterilize bottles. The hotel always answered in less than 24 hours and said that they have baby beds for rent and a microwave in the kitchen that we could ask staff to help us use. We got to Dublin 7 hours before we could check in and we thought that we would just leave our luggage with the concierge while we toured the city. Instead, the concierge told us we could just check into the room! That was so great! To sterilize the bottles, we had to ask the staff to use the microwave about 6 or 7 times throughout the day and they were always very helpful. The hotel had robes for us to use and a heated drying rack which I loved! The only 2 caveats were that the hot water did not get hot enough and when we asked the front desk if they could send someone to help us with the thermostat, they sent an electronic radiator instead. They told us that the thermostat is only for AC so for heat they used only radiators?! Luckily it didn't get too cold on our trip so the radiator was ok. read more

As with all things a classic is a classic for a reason. High tea is such a treat at this hotel, classical fair with old world elegance. If you are in a rush this is the place for you. This is tea with the old favourites of cucumber sandwiches and new ideas of roast beef with tomato bread, and of course scones with clotted cream and jam. Book early and make sure that you have had a good walk before hand, and don't plan on a large meal later that evening. read more

I am a few years late but not enough to feel like my experience has expired. I came to Dublin on a whim and the Gresham Hotel had the best deal and recommendations on the website we were using at the time. When we came to Dublin we automatically fell in love and when we arrived to the hotel we knew we had come to our Dublin home. The location is perfect, central to everything and incredibly walkable. The staff was incredibly courteous, knowledgeable, helpful, and I would be as bold as saying part of the reason why the trip went so well. They gave us recommendations, insider tips, and sure maybe they do that for all guests but my Mom and I really felt special there. Should I go back to Dublin again, actually wait, when I go back to Dublin again, this is the place I will return to. It gets worse. For those of you that saw my first review you will see that I have no issue with the Hotel and its staff. My challenge is with the EXTREMELY poor booking app and the dreadful call centre. I travel for work and the location of one of thir hotels is perfect for me but I continue to be unable to book this hotel due to their dreadful RIU class app and the even worst call centre (i wont insult customer service by calling it a reservations centre or a customer serrvice centre). It is obvious to me that this is run by a process orientated operatiosn manager and has no regard for the customer and i really mean no regard. Someone got a cheap contract over the line and they think they did a great job. If im anything to go by, they are losing hundreds ofstays. Here are the problems 1. The app wont work, it blocked me for trying to book a few dates one afteer the other and now I cannot book at all. 2. I have called the call centre 6 times to fix it and met people who's only role as far as I can see is to follow a heavily scripted process that does not and will not address the problem. You know the type, where the person at the end of the call realises that they cannot fix the problem and just defalut to repeating the same thing over and over. 3. They have refused to put me through to a supervisor or anyone who can fix it and I mean outright told me they would not escalate the call despite being unable to fix the issue. 4. I have to repeat every sentense. The call staff are not based in an natural english speakign country and while there is no issue witht hsi normally you will end up repeating every single instrucrion over and over. I plan to write a review like this ever time I make a call. If I hae to go through this then IM going to contribute to keeping the already terrible Yelp score as low as the bar you have set for your customer service. read more

Location...Fantastic location for Airlink Express (747 line) to Dublin airport (side of river closer to airport is key, I hear). For a previous work trip a year before I had stayed closer to my company's corporate park and it took ages to get a taxi. Also right in the middle of all the shops and easy walk to Temple Bar area. Super friendly staff. Room... I had a family room so they automatically folded out the sofa bed which I didn't need. Bathroom...A little dated bathroom decor but clean. Not the best vanity lighting. I stayed here on my final day in Dublin and mannnn what a treat! Upon entering the hotel, I was treated like a Queen! The staff was very friendly and attentive. I didn't have a chance to dine or drink at the hotel because there are so many great option within walking distance. The suite we were staying in was sooo gorgeous and very comfortable. I slept very well and was not very happy to leave the hotel quite early to catch my plane back to Washington DC. I haven't stayed in the hotel itself, and having read the reviews below I would never be tempted to. However I have been to the bar a couple of times and it fails to impress. The service is very slow - and this was mid week. The last time I was here I ordered some chips to accompany my drink as a snack. I was on limited time, but the chips arrived 20 minutes after my drink, just as I was getting ready to leave. The chips were frozen chips served in one of those white side dishes you see in bog standard carvery restaurants around the country, not at all sophisticated. Besides that they were dry and tasteless, and they had the nerve to charge almost €5 for them. The glasses the wine were served in were those heavy duty wine glasses seen in cheap pubs. No sophistication to it at all, the place needs to seriously up its game. read more

No awkward explanations for cab drivers necessary and there is always (at all hours, literally!) a satisfactory taxi que waiting in front of the hotel. Restaurant & Bar: Surprisingly affordable. Incredibly friendly and helpful waiters and bar tenders. Great food and dessert! Although breakfast is CRAZY expensive! Concierge: Very helpful and full of great ideas! Modern, clean Rooms: The rooms were comfortable, roomy and very clean. Cons: Wireless Internet: How on God's Green Earth can a hotel in this day and age not have properly working wireless internet? Nobody wants to actually sit at the hotel desk and troll for porno. Jeeesh! Fix your shit Gresham. Front Doors: The hotel actually locks the front entrance of the hotel and the first time you come back to the hotel after 9pm and drunk and find yourself LOCKED OUT, you'll lose your shit on the streets of Dublin, rattling the doors like a crazy person until the night desk clerk comes out and shows you where the door bell is located. It's clean and provides a comfortable bed. It is full-service, so I get that it is considered a 4-star property, but everything feels cheap. You would think booking the oldest hotel in Dublin, there might be come character, stories, or history surround the place. Unfortunately, the present-day Gresham appears to ignore its past (maybe for good reason?) and provides yet another plain hotel. This is a 4-star property only because it is provides services that 3-star properties don't. It is not 4-stars in spirit. The long dreary corridors feel like something one might find in a hospital, with fluorescent lighting providing a drab light. The corridor carpet is dirty as well. And, on a cool weekend in Dublin, our hotel room was blazing hot without us ever turning on the heater and the air conditioning function didn't work. The hotel breakfast is a rip-off at nearly 20 Euros each. You don't get much for that. Shoddy-looking bacon and sausage, and I am almost certain the eggs were rehydrated from powdered form. If you can avoid it, do not eat breakfast here. All-in-all, we got the basics and were disappointed with the additional amenities, but it is a good location and a clean room. read more

The rooms are old, and water is a problem if you happen to stay in the six floor. The buffet menu for breakfast is the most boring thing you can find, every single day of my stay they had the same thing, now I think I hate Irish breakfast just because of them. The bar service is regular, they need more variety as in other hotels I been too. But if you have the time, skip this hotel and browse trough others, maybe you will have more luck than I did. read more

Great Location and a famous name. My single room on the 2nd floor is refurbished but very small. Many little things are not paid attention to: beautiful chandeliers in the entry hall but cables running down from the hook - cover it up with some Irish green cloth. Excellent service. We arrived on red eye at 8:30 am. Without being asked, the manager offered to email me about any rooms opening early. I had low expectations. We went on a tour bus to half nap. He emailed at 11:40. How kind. He even gave us a free upgrade to a huge room. Again, we didn't ask. No US hotel would do this! The staff are nice. Hubby and I stayed 3 nights. Room was small, but clean. Bed is pretty comfy. Bathroom is a generous size. The staff was very nice and very friendly and helpful. Dinner in the hotel was very good, I loved the dessert of Bailey Bread and butter pudding...Yum! We appreciate the other reviewers who warned us about checking on parking which was helpful. However, if you miss the turn to get to the parking, (which is by the Burger King) one way street limitations make it a nightmare to get back to. Location was great, walking distance to almost everything. We also did the Dublin Hop-On Hop Off Tour which stopped feet from the Hotel.,We would probably try a different Hotel if we came back. I cannot begin to tell everyone how amazing this place is. I have Located within the Gresham Hotel in Central Dublin, it is just gorgeous. I arrived at the hotel on Wednesday morning and I headed to the Writer's Bar where I was served the most gorgeous breakfast. I it was called the Treat Yourself breakfast and it consisted of French toast done in am exquisite cinnamon syrup. I Garnished with fruit, along with tea and a smoothie. I stayed at the hotel for most of the day and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The staff were so friendly and attentive. As I said I thoroughly recommend you go here very reasonable prices considering you are in the very centre of the city. First time staying at the Gresham Hotel. Location was perfect, walking distance to most of the things we wanted to see and do. Not happy with the check-in. We waited forever for our room to be ready, so we had to sit in the lobby for hours after a 12 hour flight. Not sure why it took so long. The room was so tiny and didn't even really look clean. Rooms definitely needs some major upgrade. Front desk staff was alright I guess. It was a hit and miss. Lobby, hotel bar and restaurant was alright..pricey. For a four star hotel with such many reviews in Yelp and TripAdvisor. I honestly expected more. I don't think this is 4-star hotel to be honest.
