Great old hotel. Lots of character. The staff is very thoughtful and helpful.Location is really convenient. They even have underground parking in case you have visitors-- which is really cool in the middle of the city. Have really enjoyed eating at the Tally Bar and Grill-- the chicken pot pie is delish. Be sure to book a remodeled room. My room is huge and has a beautiful bathroom--all very comfortable. Walking all over Dublin from the Gresham is a breeze. Will stay here again. read more

Afternoon tea, darling? The Gresham is one of the more reasonable afternoon teas in Dublin, coming in at 23.95. For this price you get all the tea (or coffee?) you can drink and the traditional three courses of deliciousness. The Gresham's afternoon tea deviates a bit from the standard on, mostly to it's benefit. There's still the cucumber sandwich (which I personally find yuck!) but there's also other things like these gorgeous caprese dealios as well. The cakes vary from a scrummy lemon drizzle to a delicious chocolate cup of chocolate mousse (mmmm chocolate) . The unfortunate villain of the piece is the scones course. First you have your sambos, then you have your scones with cream and jam, and then you have your cakes (and then you explode!). They went for mini-scones instead of full scones, which is cute in theory, but not in reality. If you make small scones they will taste hard and stale, even if served immediately from the oven. It's to do with how they bake. Aside from this mini-scone misstep, the overall experience was lovely. You do have to supply your own friends to stick up their pinkies and say 'wot wot', and you also need to supply your own self-restraint when you're just too full to eat any more cake. read more

The Gresham Hotel is a land mark hotel on Dublin's main street, O'Connell Street. It is a really popular hotel especially with visitors over to see the important GAA matches! It is a deluxe four star hotel that had a new makeover not so long ago which restored its old style former elegance. It has 288 rooms and you can get some really great deals on their website. They have a lovely restaurant, two fab bars, a fitness studio and a really reasonable spa with great treatments for men, women and couples! read more

The Gresham Hotel is a nice hotel in the heart of Dublin city, pricing is at the upper end of the scale compared to others in the area. This has been a great location for meeting clients. Sometimes the staff can forget about your order but just giving them a slight nudge reminds them and they soon get it over to you. Stayed here in October with my boyfriend while we were visiting Dublin. We had the basic room (not the lavery) and it was okay. Nothing fancy by any means and could do with a little updating, but the place was clean and the bed was comfy. I wish there was an alarm clock in the room. Nothing worse than waking up in a hotel in a strange country and not knowing what time it is. The TV had a small clock on it, but you basically had to get out of bed to read it. Why was there no hairdryer in the room? Isn't that common practice to offer in hotels? Luckily there was an iron and ironing board along with extra pillows. I didn't eat at the hotel, but the lobby area is really pretty and upon our arrival a bellboy helped us to our room with the bags. I wish the hotel would tell guests on the confirmation email about their parking. I didn't know where to park, but ended up finding parking behind the hotel (though just not the one that they have an agreement with) and paid 20 euro per day instead of 10 euro per day. All in all the place was nice, very central. Looks really fancy from the outside and the lobby. I think the lavery rooms have been updated. Keep in mind it is an old hotel. The price was good, and I probably would stay again. read more

This my second stay at the Gresham. My room is in the college wing. It's fair enough. No complaints. They've done some remodeling and updating since I last stayed in 2014. My feedback is for ALL of their servers. I've been to Toddy's, the Writer's Lounge, and the Gallery restaurant. They would do better to make the kitchen and bars all self serve. You might get something to eat and drink before you parish from starvation. Currently, I'm sitting in Writers. I had 45 minutes to spare before I needed to head up to the room to prepare for dinner. Plenty of time for one beverage. I now have Four minutes to gulp the Cosmo that was just delivered that I ordered 20 minutes ago. Oops, time's up! Have to go... read more

I have to give this place a full five stars because of the staff. My Mum managed to leave her bag on the airport shuttle bus and it had all her cards and her passport! But the porter at the Hotel, rang ahead, left and about an hour later returned with the bag and all the contents were untouched! His calmness and helpfulness was really beyond the call of duty but greatly appreciated. I wasn't that into the breakfast offered there, but the hotel bar was ok and the beds were very comfy. I liked the location too, as it meant we could walk pretty much everywhere and be in the heart of things quite quickly. read more

The Gresham Hotel on O'Connell Street, Dublin will always be the Best Hotel to stay in if you ever visit Dublin. It caters for everybody's needs however trivial. The grub is a bit pricey, but its freshly cooked. If it is a bit cold don't be afraid to ask them to heat it up a bit for you. The bar has a good relaxed fell to it. Bar staff are very helpful, and will bring your beverage to you, if you ask politely!. My Mother retired from here job just before Christmas, she had here Retirement Party there. It will be a lonnnnnnnng time before I retire, but if I ever reach that age, I'll have my Retirement Party there too. Drinks will not be on me., buy your own. read more

At a glance this looks like a very pricey restaurant with it's location inside the Gresham Hotel. But surprisingly, the prices for a dinner are pretty much average for Dublin City (15 Euros for an average dish). The restaurant is roomy and has a very elegant atmosphere, posh decoration and an extensive wine card. I've only had a dinner and a soft drink, and I was very content with it. The location of this hotel is superb-- every public transport imaginable is within short walking distance. Rooms are well-kept, the staff is helpful, and the food is good. I was very impressed with housekeeping and the housekeeping system. Upon leaving my room in the morning for breakfast, my room would be made up by the time I got back to the room. I travel a lot, and that is highly unusual. I was disappointed though, that in one of the most historic and iconic hotels in the country of Ireland, on the capital's main street, most of the staff I encountered was from Spain or another EU location. Hiring local talent might be a nice gesture for the Spanish company that has acquired the hotel and attempted to rebrand it. Also, if you book online on the Riu website, disregard the 5% off offer for joining their membership club. It is a scam. The sign up procedures did not work properly to allow the discount, and when I brought this to the attention of hotel management, they brushed aside my inquiries with feeble excuses about the hotel's booking procedures. The hotel is ideally situated for the centre of Dublin, I stayed for one night on a business trip. Usually I would stay the other side of the river however the Gresham had a great deal on so I decided to give it a go. The decor is quite dated and the welcome was average. My room was just a standard room, the heating was stuck on and my room was baking hot and there was no option of opening a window. There also was no water in the room. The tv was stuck at an angle so I wasn't able to watch it from the bed. The view was of the roof and air con units. All in all I didn't enjoy a 4 star experience I felt the hotel really missed the personal touch. read more

Bobby and I stayed here our first night of our honeymoon journey in Ireland! It took us literally 45 minutes of endless circling round the block (driving for the first time on the wrong side of the road might I add) to find the car park. After 45 mins of arguing we decided to just park it and take our chances! When we got to the hotel it was an absolute dream especially after 6 hours on a plane! Since we were on our honeymoon the guy at the front desk upgraded us to a suite. When we got to our room we anxiously opened the door to find a beautifully decorated room with chandelier lighting, a bathroom boasting natural light and black and white decor, and a nice sitting room. Exhausted we slept most of the day away but the hotel is centrally located so we could walk to a cafe or restaurant without going too far. The only thing I didn't like was that the walls were paper thin and they charge for parking. Overall, it was a fun place to stay for the night :) read more

While the food was good it was over priced and trying to get a waiter was a job in itself. We looked like we were doing aerobics trying to catch the eye of any of them. We ordered and then came the wait. The selection was terrible for celiac s or anyone with food allergies so I was unable to order anything. The decor is tired and worn and I had to step over homeless people on the front steps. The parking situation is ridiculous. I called 3 times for an exact location and the first 2 people I spoke to had no clue. Once had terrible English and couldn't understand my question. The 3rd while helpful agreed it was difficult to get to the parking garage and I ended up parking on Gardner street and walking past junkies fighting etc. All in all a bad ex and I will not go back. read more

The Gresham Hotel is an institution in Dublin, so much so that you never need to worry about getting lost as everyone in town knows it. The location is great for touring Dublin as most sights are a short walk to the south over the river. The area is apparently a little seedy at night and areas to the north west can be dangerous at least according to local cab drivers. The hotel is classic and slightly opulent but not pretentious. The common areas have an upscale classic European atmosphere that doesn't lend itself to hanging out, but gets business done. Breakfast was pricey for the amount and quality, but in a pinch, it will do. There are however plenty of bakeries and cafes nearby though with better offerings if time allows. Service was top notch and very friendly. Early check in and leaving a back after checking out were not problematic. Wifi worked quite well even in the room. On a warm day in the fall though, air conditioning was not enabled so the room was overly warm. The windows were not well insulated from noise either so sitting above a noisy alley where people seemed to be continuously talking at night and garbage collectors continuously visited somehow every morning meant some interrupted sleep. The bed was comfortable and the room fairly large by European standards. An excellent place to stay for a reasonable price when exploring Dublin by foot. read more

Second of all the place is fancy and the price definitely suites it €3.95 for tea, bit much for tea tbh, although it is actual tea leaves your getting! When we arrived late around 9pm and were starving, we were in the mood for a pint and some good pub food. Naturally, we asked the Concierge Phillip, who told us that all the pubs in the area stopped serving at 9/9:30.pm and we should eat at the hotel Brasserie. We were so crushed and upset, but after doing a Yelp search we found Murray's Pub, it served food till 10pm. Murray's which was literally a two minute walk just a few doors down from the hotel to the right. Murray's was delicious, great service and live music. It's pathetic that a hotel Concierge in the center of town doesn't know that there is Pub that serves food till 10pm just steps away. Shame on Phillip. read more

Sometimes when you are shopping around Henry Street you just need some classic comfort and this is what this hotel offers. Calm, good service and a grand lunch menu. I just had a glass of wine (€7.50 not bad on price) and a roast beef sandwich. I was starving so this oldie but a goodie sambo hit the spot perfectly! I was embarrassed that I booked this hotel. The service was abysmal. I booked it because of its name, and supposed reputation, and its centrality. In September 08 booked a small meeting room for a visiting work colleague and myself, so we could have over a week of meetings and some training. I booked him a single bedroom. Amounting to over 7 days rental, so we got to see how the hotel operated. In the mornings we would arrive to a locked meeting room. It took some time to locate someone to open the room for us. And on two occasions the room had been very poorly cleaned from the previous day. During the day we had coffee breaks and smoking breaks. The meeting room had laptops, projectors etc., so it had to be locked when we left the room. We were not provided with a key, even after requesting one on several occasions. Finding someone to open the room often turned into a 10-20 minute goose chase. The other staff were very unhelpful and service wasn't prompt. My work colleague stayed at the hotel, but I didn't not, so I wont comment on the hotel room. I did however have a full Irish Breakfast, which was very expensive. And we were asked to move from the seats we had sat down in, after we had started to eat. The waiter wanted us to move because that are of the restaurant was being cleaned. This struck myself an my colleague as being highly rude, but we moved. We probably wouldn't have moved had we known how much the breakfast would cost. It was very very expensive, and it wasn't even that good. All in all, it seems to a be a poorly run hotel that has gotten by on its previous reputation and its central location. Stayed here two nights and would agree with all who say it is not a 4 star hotel. Mostly clean (carpets are grubby) and safe, but didn't give you any feeling that it was in anyway posh. Most uncomfortable hotel bed ever, and since the main purpose of a hotel is someplace to sleep that's a really bad thing. Felt like a very worn out ikea mattress. Would not stay here again. I stayed at this hotel in September 2009 and expected more based on the 'name' and reputation. The rooms are old, dark and quite depressing - the long corridors make it feel like a hospital. When we checked in and out - nobody was there to help with bags or hold the door open. The main entrance has 5 or 6 steps but no ramp which makes it awkward when pulling a large bag or two. The hotel 'provides' parking at a location around the corner for ~14 euro per night. During our visit a traffic accident prevented access to this location Fortunately we found parking just as close for 6 euro at a public car park which was open 24hrs. The hotel staff did not provide any help except to request that we wait for the street to reopen! I would not recommend paying more than 70euro for this hotel. There is better value to be found elsewhere in Dublin at this time. read more

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is very nice and in a great location. The staff was friendly and very helpful. I have to say a special thank you to Francesca, at the front desk, who really went out of her way to help my girlfriend and I get a dinner reservation. It was a busy Friday evening and she must have called about four restaurants for us and got a reservation at a great restaurant. For our trip to Dublin this hotel seemed great, it's location was perfect for us, and from what we had seen online it was a nice hotel with everything we needed, which helped make up for the fact that it's price was a bit more expensive than what we would have liked. We booked a non refundable room since we are in college and can not afford the extra money. We didn't think it would be a problem because we were for sure going. The problem came when our flight to Dublin was canceled because the airport shut down due to storm Emma. They said it was impossible for us to get to Dublin because of their airport closing. They were able to book us a flight two days later to go to Dublin, which altered the days we would stay in a hotel. We called the hotel and they seemed understanding, telling use they could alter their policy and Change the nights we were staying and charged us an extra $270 for altering the accommodations. The next day our flight was cancelled again due to worsening conditions in Dublin. The airport was still closed and we had no way to get to Dublin and would miss our trip. We contacted the hotel again to see about any sort of refund on either our hotel room, or the extra $270 they charged us. The hotel claimed that they where unable to alter their policy and could not help us out, when just the day before they gladly altered their policy for their own benefit. They never responded to us which was a bit disheartening. So now, we have spent over $500 at a hotel we never went to. I understand that it is normally non refundable, but in this case where it was impossible for us to arrive due to their airport being closed, I feel as though they would be sympathetic towards the situation and at least give us a voucher to come back to see Dublin if not our money back. We are dissatisfied with the service we received here. read more

I have never stayed as a guest of the hotel however I have visited for drinks and coffee. The service has never been great but it's been the trade off for nice surrounds. Today, however is the last time I will be frequenting the Gresham. The staff were slow, certainly more than usual. I.can understand when a place is busy but the waiter and waitresses were not even acknowledging me when I called excuse me as they walked past. I waited 20 minutes for a menu then another 15 to order (where I had to call the waiter again - a different one as the one I had previously spoken to had vanished only to reappear later and ignore me). Getting the bill was another rigmaroll involving me trying to catch anyone's attention, which I did but they blatantly ignored me. The decor is nice and it does feel like a special treat kind of place but for the price, the service is way, way below standard and I won't be returning read more

Stayed here 2 nights last summer and was pretty impressed. Location was fantastic for the price we paid, and the elegance and charm of this old historical hotel was dazzling. Room a little small but everything was ok, there was AC in the room which was a huge upgrade from The Ashling on the other side of town. Great pubs right next door and very quiet on the inside. Stayed here for one night in April 2012. The first thing that stuck me was that there seemed to be construction going on in the hotel itself, the revolving entrance door was out of order and there were signs up to use the side doors, this continued inside the hotel with signs and barriers up fencing off certain areas. There's no ramp to the main entrance so i had to haul my luggage up the steps leading to the front door. Not a big deal but very convenient either. Double room was basic and a little cramped. Overall the hotel could do with updating and modernizing. Price was very reasonable for a city center hotel and it's a great location central to all Dublin has to offer. I'd probably stay here again just for the convenience factor but would not recommend it to friends. Did not check out the hotel restaurant or bar. read more

I did like that the room I was in had windows that opened over oconnell street. Also it's in an excellent location... And they have American outlets built into the vanity which is great. Absolutely the most horrible experience I've ever had in my life. The service in the hotel is terrible and we were kicked out of the hotel at 330 in the morning after being out with friends because they deemed there were too many people in the room. I was followed out and expected to drive out of the hotel after being out drinking on vacation with friends. The management wouldn't speak or listen to us and physically escorted us out of the room even though I was there when we checked in and my card was on file. NEVER EVER STAY HERE EVEN IF IT IS FREE. read more

I live in Dublin so I haven't stayed over at The Gresham. I've had two bad experiences with aggressive security/doormen here. They have big, thuggish doormen who double as bouncers. I've been a regular at The Gresham for almost a decade, as a student I stopped off there for tea or a meal. Since I started work, I'd go there a fair bit to finish off work in the evening (sometimes I have to work late), and I'd always buy food and drink. I've brought my friends and dates there and even work meetings. But this place does not notice its regular customers at all!! One doorman particular is a total bully. Both times I was on my own minding my own business, not making any trouble. Last July: it was late, but I'm a customer spending money and not doing anything wrong! I was accused of being asleep (I wasn't) and I thought he was going to attack me. I was sitting on a sofa and he pulled a chair out of the way and pushed the table away from me, started picking up my stuff from the table as he stood right over me and told me he was going to chuck me out. When I complained to the night manager, he told me I was NOT a regular customer, he hadn't seen me before! He wasn't interested. It didn't help that the doorman followed me to the front desk so he could intimidate me and the night manager. I am no way aggressive and easily intimidated in such situations. After that I didn't go to the Gresham for 8 months. I ventured back for the first time last month and have been a few times since. On friday night (Apr 19), the same guy came for me again. I told him to please leave me alone, that I was there as a customer. He told me I was NOT a regular customer. It was about 11.30 and I told him I was waiting for a taxi and would be gone in a few minutes. I was on a sofa. He picked up my bag, pulled out a chair that was in his way, then pushed the table away from me. I thought he was going to hit me. He was going to 'put me out of the hotel', then said he was going to 'escort me out of the hotel'. The bar staff were just standing there looking shocked. This time, I just went along with it and I let him 'escort me out'. What do you make of that? read more

I like having a coffee or a drink in the lobby here, watching everyone go in and out. My parents used to stay here from time to time and I would go meet them for breakfast and it was consistently fabulous - a big buffet full of options for the most discerning of tastes. I was a student at the time and would come away feeling nice and full for the week ahead! I had dinner here one night, however, and it wasn't great. But I wouldn't hold that isolated experience against the hotel as a whole. The rooms are pretty nice too. read more
