My husband and I decided to try a new place for dinner and he wanted to try the Carlisle. I'm glad we did. It was great. The atmosphere was comfortable, with a pleasant crowd and a lot of laughing. We were greeted almost as soon as we walked in, which was great considering they were kinda busy already. Drinks came fast and so did the food. I had the bacon cheeseburger with curly fries. My husband got cheese curds, which I'd never had before, and the special of the day, which was a bbq bacon burger with regular fries. My food was amazing. It's been a long time since I've had a burger of this quality. The cheese curds came out fast and hot and were absolutely delicious. I had a bite of my husband's burger and it was good enough for me to consider maybe getting it next time. All of this food only cost $45, which is saying something these days. We had noticed the Carlisle during a recent trip to Onalaska. We thought the outside was gorgeous so figured it was a dinner house and the inside was the same. Well, it's not and the sign clearly indicates it's a bar and grill. So, we were disappointed when we walked in. However, by checking it out, we assumed the place really rocks in the evenings and on the weekend. Who knows! Between us we ordered their fish'n chips, philly cheesesteak sandwich and soup of the day which was cream of celery. Everything was absolutely fabulous. The philly cheesteak was about double the size of those you get elsewhere and really good. The soup was also excellent as was the fish. Fries were excellent and hot. There is no way we could give this place less than a 5* for their food. One negative was the air conditioner made it very cold inside and it wasn't even a hot day. Service was great. If we were ever in the area again, we would definitely return. read more

I was visiting friends in the area and they took us to The Carlisle. Nice little bar in what appears to be a new building. The bar area was inviting and comfortable. They also have a outside eating area where dogs are allowed. We chose to eat outside. The service was prompt, friendly and professional. They have a good assortment of craft beers on tap and a full bar. The variety of food on the menu was pretty good. We had the beef dip, chicken tenders, and club sandwich. The portions were huge and the fries were excellent. The food tasted great and I look forward to coming back when I am in the area. read more

Let me start off by saying this, I've drove past this place many times with my wife not even knowing it was a restaurant. My wife's coworker was the one who finally recommended this place so after a trip into town with the wife she told me she wanted to stop in to try it out (her and I are big foodies and love trying out new places and reviewing them on yelp. It's kinda our thing) So anyway, we stop by and walked in and was immediately blown away by the aesthetic of the dining area/bar. There was tv screens about the walls for patrons to enjoy while eating/drinking. The badass old school chainsaws adorned the walls above the entrance (it's a logging town) and old pictures of loggers. Our sever was a younger guy but very friendly and took our order expeditiously (think we may have waited less than a minute). My wife's coworker told her about the cheese curds so that's what we ordered as an appetizer (which was addicting as hell to say the least, think I might need rehab as a result!!!!) The menu was awesome!!!! Very well priced indeed and gives us many reasons to come back again and again until we've tried everything! My wife orders the fish and chips, which I had a bite of and they were amazing!!!! Very well battered, and the fries were custom cut from potatoes so as a culinary cook of 15 years I respect the work put into them. All the sauces were made in house so that was impressive as well. I ordered the pull pork sliders (3x), and they came on a pretzel bun with I house made slaw and mayo! The pulled pork was so buttery and paired extremely well with the slaw! It also came with curly fries and fry sauce (also made in house) with a splash of horseradish sauce for a little kick! At the end of it all including the fact that we had an appetizer too our bill wasn't even above 60$!!!!! Ordered two taco plates to go and got Nachos! And they insisted I ordered Nachos which was BS - even made sure to say green sauce for the Tacos and was told yes. I've been there twice. The ambience is nice, the decor is cool and in keeping with the vibe of the community. But the food is iffy at best. The first time I went, I ordered a turkey sandwich which came out as two thin slices of bread and a giant pile of turkey, cheese, and lettuce; it was not possible to eat it like a sandwich. On my second visit I ordered plain chicken wings with a side of teriyaki sauce and a salad. Husband ordered a sandwich and a cup of soup. My chicken wings came out, but they were smothered in barbecue sauce so I asked to take them back. When they came back they were overcooked, blackened charcoal briquettes. Despite a second request, I never did get my salad. I think they need to up their game a little bit. read more

Food is poor, overpriced and service slow. The boneless chicken wings looks and tastes like cheap nuggets you can get at a national chain...for a lot less $. Ordered takeout from here several times. The Carlisle doesn't look like much on the outside, but aesthetically pleasing to the eye on the inside. Decked out in a logger theme, with beautiful wood interior. It seems like a good place to enjoy a cold beer. Customer service has always been excellent ! That being said let's discuss the food... 1st order was great ! Had a mushroom swiss burger and onion rings. Burger was good, O-rings were perfect. 2nd order was cheeseburger & fries, burger was overcooked to the point of being cardboard texture, and the fries were super soggy. Figured they are a new business, and maybe had a hard time finding a good cook ?... Decided to try on a later date. Next order was a grilled chicken sandwich, cause I wasn't looking forward to another cardboard mishap. Needless to say won't do that again. Went with a grilled chicken salad after that, and everything was fine. So here we are this week...ordered chicken tenders with side salad, just to be on the safe side. They once again let me and my family down ! Two of my tenders looked like they had been in a fight with the fryer, one appeared somewhat burnt on the side, and the other was overcooked. The one that was edible was good with the sauce. Dipping sauce was the highlight of that meal. The other meals that were ordered were just as bad. In fact my boyfriend was a few bites into his burger before he realized it was undercooked, and the tots looked and tasted like they were unthawed, dipped in the oil, and then placed into the box. I have never tasted worse tots than these. I understand that you're running a bar/grill and at times it can get really busy, but overcooking and undercooking customers meals is absolutely unacceptable. I truly hope management can address these issues with the cook, or maybe find a replacement. Unfortunately I must bid farewell to The Carlisle for my local take out needs. We've always had good luck at the Carlisle. Food has always been great, service is solid (keep in mind it's s small town restaurant and new so staff is learning), and the interior is clean with a very cool local logger aesthetic. I recommend the bacon wrapped jalapenos or any burger on the menu. Breakfast is somewhat limitee but has been fantastic every time we've had it. Outside seating too which is fun in the summer and for those that smoke. Overall a very cool and fun place with a ton of potential. read more

This place has been open since March 2022 and have finalized their menu in early June. As with all new restaurants, there will be days where everything runs smoothly and days where there will be hiccups - we got a great day and are hoping there will be more to come! You cannot ask for a cleaner, open restaurant with friendly staff, fantastic food and equally fantastic prices! We went on Father's Day (which can be hit or miss with service and food quality) and it was not too busy (we didn't see how many were seated upstairs). The menu is one page, front and back, and has a pretty decent variety of items. Ordered our drinks and got them right away. Food seemed to take a bit to come out, but it was well worth the wait! Pancakes were fluffy and not soggy. I ordered a side of sausage and received one sausage patty. Be aware to request more if you are looking for more than one sausage patty (I actually was fine with one!). My husband's meal (bacon, eggs, hashbrown and toast) was delicious (per him, I was too busy tucking into the pancakes!). When you receive the bill, you have the option to pay your server or pay via a scannable invoice which is on the receipt. Decided to try it and found it is super easy to navigate and got my confirmation email quickly. After my initial visit to The Carlisle and Yelp review, we visited The Carlisle 4 more times. 2 times were just awful, yet tried again on Valentine's Day dinner after hearing that management and menu had revamped. Had an amazing dinner with Barbara was our server. Everything was so beautiful, fresh, and tasty, from the salads to the special dessert. My friend and I had some errands and girl time this last Saturday 2/25/23 approximately 9:15AM and decided to hit The Carlisle for breakfast after having such a great meal experience on VD. The environment: one table of 8 and 3 couples at the bar. Our drinks (hot tea) were delivered immediately and 2 orders taken, breakfast special of B&G w 2 eggs OE and breakfast burrito w/o bacon as my friend is a vegetarian. Reiterating several times during our 1hour 10 minute journey waiting for our orders. Needless to say we were HANGRY by the time our food was delivered...no eggs on the B&G order and the burrito was covered in bacon. No disrespect to Barbara, again our server. She tried to do an amazing job of her part of the terrible experience. We didn't have time to wait who knows how long for 2 eggs and a remade burrito Found out what the issue was...they scheduled a brand new cook on a Saturday morning alone. I've been in the industry all of my career, who does that?!?!?! We promptly drove over to Papa Bears West for a fast, scrumptious brunch. Sad read more

been there twice and both times they had no steaks or not enough, no baked potatoes fit the meal, no chicken for another person meal in the group, food came wrong, over cooked, cold. appetizers shrimp were raw in the middle. when you know there is a large party coming you think they have more staff, more food available and prepped. it was the same the first time I went in June no help no steaks and it was steak night. the owner needs to get his crap togethe. This is a gorgeous new restaurant in Onalaska. It has the potential for being a great place for date night and celebrations. The decor is perfect for a town founded on the logging boom of the early 20th century - plenty of old saws, lots of wood on the walls, and an upright log with chainsaws sunken into it. Opportunities for improvement: Servers need to carry around notepads so they remember orders. I ordered a mushroom Swiss burger with tater tots and a Sprite. I was given a Dr. Pepper, soft (not crispy) fries, and a mushroom Swiss burger with amazing caramelized onions, a small amount of sautéed mushrooms, and a pickle that I'm not sure if it was dill or sweet. The menus are temporary, but they're in sheet protectors. It would be very easy to have a stack of them printed for one-time use, simply to make it more classy. The servers seem unorganized and annoyed when people walk in. This could be an AMAZING place. The outside dining area looks super fun for good weather. It's right off the highway, and in the summertime, it could be a hopping place. Please listen to your customers. We want you to succeed. Help us want to show up! read more

The touted Taco Tuesday, so we tried it, tacos weren't warm, and nothing too impressive. Ordered the taco platter and a appetizer of jalapeño poppers, and drinks. Tacos came out in about 20 minutes, no poppers, mentioned it, poppers came out 20minutes later.... the poppers weren't too bad. The place is nice and the beer was cold. We hopped in here for breakfast on yet another cold, wet, not user-friendly weather day. Nice furnishings, looks like it could be a very good place to hang out. Did not get the name of the very kind lady keeping us full of coffee (my bad) Lots of take out orders, several tables with little ones all enjoying themselves. We figured it would be a while, but it's not like we were going to run out and work in the yard. Sadly, close to an hour later, our server came back wildly apologetic. The single person in the kitchen (!) had completely forgotten our order. Damn. Breakfast arrived soon after, and our sever stoutly refused to give us a bill. But the food was really, really good. Big, squishy breakfast sandwich for hubby. Whomping stuffed omlette I took home half of for the next day. We'll be back for sure to try more of the menu. But please, please get staffing sorted out. Cold drinks, fast service and great food! Love that they do live music on the weekends and have a large outdoor area to bring the dogs.

We went there and had a great time! Food was excellent and the waitress was on point with getting to us, even having to go up and down the stairs. While there is a limited menu, it even says "Temporary Menu" at the top, so we understood our selections would be limited at the time. We're going there again soon! EDIT: Went there tonight (5/23/22) and the food was... mediocre at best. My partner ordered chicken strips and got 3, which was basically appetizer size. The fries for both of us were fairly cold when brought out, and the chicken wings were... well, they tasted burnt (I ordered with the sauces on the side instead of dredged in it). The burger was good though (Jalapeno Burger), but on this outing there, we won't be back on a weekday. Even our waitress was sub-par compared to the last one we had. If we wanted more coffee, we'd probably have never had gotten it. Really disappointing on this run there. read more
