On Monday, June 8th, 2026, I celebrated my birthday at The Capital Grille with my son and his amazing girlfriend. From the moment we entered and my son gave his name for the reservation, I was greeted with happy birthday wishes by the hostesses. His girlfriend met us there, and she was already seated. The table had confetti in celebration of my birthday. I was so impressed and truly honored that someone from The Capital Grille took the time to write me a personal birthday card from the restaurant. WOW! Our server, Antonio (Tonio), was professional, attentive, kind, patient, and fun. He was incredibly accommodating, especially to the member of our party who had a gluten and red bell pepper allergy. He was a major part of making sure our experience was a very memorable one. The food was absolutely delectable! I had the surf and turf with lobster tail and medium-well steak, which was topped with jumbo lump crab meat and rich béarnaise sauce. The other guests dined on Cooper River salmon with risotto, along with seared scallops and lobster risotto. The night ended with the most beautiful surprise, which included a well-decorated plate with "Happy Birthday," a cheesecake topped with burnt sugar, and fruit compote, also a chocolate espresso cake that had my taste buds dancing. We stopped in at lunchtime for a cup (or bowl!) of clam chowder after reading so many great reviews. We were on our way to MOPOP and definitely weren't dressed for a place this nice. The moment we walked in, we thought, "Uh-oh, maybe we should turn around!" But nope--the hostess greeted us immediately with a warm welcome and made us feel completely comfortable. Even without a reservation, we were seated right away. Our server came by quickly, and I ordered an Arnold Palmer because I'd been drinking way too much all week and needed a break. Let me tell you--that was hands down the BEST Arnold Palmer I've ever had! For lunch, I ordered the clam chowder and the NY Strip Frites, served with fries and two dipping sauces. Do I remember the names of those mysterious green sauces? Absolutely not. But what I do know is that I'm not usually a sauce person, and by the end of the meal, I was scraping every last bit off my plate. They were that good! Everything was delicious, the service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was welcoming despite our very casual appearance. I'll definitely be back on my next trip so I can experience even more of the menu. And one last thing: as we were leaving, they handed us these tiny candies that packed a surprisingly huge punch of flavor. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the name of them--or any of the sauces, for that matter. Oh man. Expensive yes, but everything was top notch delicious. I've gotten used to steak places being mostly about the steak with 'good' sides but literally everything we got was worth it's own discussion. The mains were awesome, our 10oz fillets were thick and juicy with great peppercorn crust (ask, we didn't see it on the menu) and rich sauces. The sea bass was incredibly moist and flavorful to the point my no-fish son stole seconds. The lamb was arranged beautifully and cooked perfectly. We had a few not-perfect points but not big enough to detract. My son wasn't a fan of the lamb sauce, our steaks were a bit overdone for medium-rare. Still delicious. The creamed corn and augratin potatoes...omg...open a restaurant just for these. They were both creamy, impossibly flavorful, and still stand out from similar dishes you find elsewhere without straying from their core identity. Just be careful, we certainly overate and all the cream and butter/oil didn't help us on that side. I can't say much about the caviar. The ones who wanted it loved it but weren't raving. They liked the onion dip and chips over a standard cream and bread or cracker. Me...I ate a ton of the chips with onion dip only and absolutely loved it. Don't think I'd pay $40 for chips and dip but that's just more caviar for the rest of the table! Caesar was good, but hard to beat a Howie tableside. Grapefruit soda was worth it, very refreshing and strong natural grapefruit flavor. Visited on a Saturday night with no reservation. Was seated promptly. They were running a wagu and wine menu where you get a burger and glass of wine for $35 but I opted for their regular menu. Another great experience at the Capital Grill! There were four of us so we shared a bottle of wine as well as a couple of us got their delicious martinis. They start you with a beautiful complimentary bread basket with the most delicious bread. We got the calamari as an appetizer- so good! Finally had a chance to try this place on Christmas Eve and it didn't not disappoint! I had the 14oz New York strip and it was cooked to perfection! Great crust! The mashed potatoes were whipped perfectly. My beet and goat cheese salad was delicious! And those prosciutto wrapped mozzarella sticks were so so so yummy! Ambiance was great! My server answered all my questions his name is Matthew he was FANTASTIC!! The food was delicious. The stead and lobster were cooked perfectly and so juicy and tender. The wedge salad was fantastic the bacon and house made dressing send this over the top! The mood is very classy and high end. You feel very fancy eating here. For a place that is advertised for fine dining the service should match the vibe. The server asked us for drinks, however she could not tell me what was their house wines. We started with the grand plateau seafood platter accompanied by a small plate for shells. Most places when the shells start to pile they bring another plate. As we were still eating our appetizers and with no warning, three servers brought our main dishes with no room on the table. Last night (Friday) we visited the Capital Grille in downtown Seattle. It is one of the few fine dining national brands still operating in the Seattle metro area. The Mortons, Flemings, il Fornaios, McCormick and Schmicks, Oceanaires, Bourbon Steaks, and Sullivans have all gone away for various reasons, but the Capital Grille is still standing. This visit was on a very active Friday night as the place was humming! The front of the house staff were pleasant and very welcoming. One couldn't miss the extensive wine displays at the entrance and across from the bar. We were seated quickly to our table for two. The white linens on the table were a nice fine dining touch. Within minutes our glasses were filled with water and our order for additional beverages placed. We went for glasses of Sauvignon Blanc and Capital Grille's take on the Old Fashion, an InFashion. Our server Amber B. was also very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Capital Grille is known for its extensive steak selections but as we are pescatarians we went for its offerings from the sea/lakes. To begin we ordered the Calamari appetizer and two salads, a roasted Beet salad and a Caesar salad. The Calamari was lightly fried and tossed with Cherry Peppers providing crispy, heated pleasure. The salads were both fresh and delicious. Next up were our entrees, but before we explore these, let's back up to the bread basket. It included a variety of choices and Amber kept our table crumb free! For entrees we chose the Sea Bass and the Citrus Glazed Salmon. The Sea Bass was excellently pan seared with miso butter and accompanied with shiitake mushroom and asparagus. The Salmon was seared as well with a citrus glaze applied, and included haricots verts and sweet, cippolini onions and a baked potato (as an add on). When I say we loved the preparations, we truly loved the preparations! Both dishes were excellently executed; moist, flaky, and delicious. As another add on for the Salmon entree, I added a Lobster Tail for an additional $30. We are not talking about a 12 or 22 ounce tail here but the 6 ounce tail was nicely prepared. We opted not to go for dessert but will check those out on our next visit to the spot. The Ambiance was great, as there was a lot of energy circulating through the restaurant. For those that are and were complaining, YOURE LUCKY THEY WERE EVEN OPENED TO SERVE YOU! Anyway, the host was such a sweetheart. She kept her composure even when rude customers belittled her and yelled at her! And our waiter was such an amazing funny person! A very romantic setting. The Capital Grille is like the Beyoncé of steakhouses! Always flawless, always hitting the high notes, and never giving you a bad performance. And with that you get amazing service that's like a private show. The ambience nails that sweet spot of upscale but still chill. Think polished enough for date night, classy enough for dinner before a show, but relaxed enough that you can swing by for a casual happy hour without feeling overdressed. We opened the show with the Dungeness crab dip, and wow, it was basically the mic-drop moment of appetizers. Creamy, rich, and packed with flavor, the kind of dish that makes you want to lick the bowl (don't worry, I restrained myself.) Then came the star (literally) of the evening, the new Gold Star Wagyu Filet. Imagine steak so tender it practically has its own velvet couch. Perfectly cooked, seasoned like it went to finishing school, and melt-in-your-mouth good. For the encore, we had the potatoes au gratin. HIGH END STEAKHOUSE CLOSE TO THE 5th AVE THEATER. $$$$ They say you get what you pay for and in this case it rings true. The atmosphere is elegant as is deserving of high end establishments. Our server Jon, did not rush us and even inquired if we had plans after dinner (we were going to to see Elf at the 5th Ave Theatre two blocks away away) so the meal could be timed for our showtime. He was thoughtful about our selections and offered his opinion when asked. We started with the caviar app. A dollop of caviar placed atop a sort of onion dip, surrounded by house made potato chips. Personally I prefer that caviar be eaten alone but the presentation was eye popping. We then had a course of soup. I had the French Onion and my wife had the Lobster Bisque. We swapped half way to taste each others. The Bisque had big chunks of lobster in it and was delicious. The French onion had a generous topping of melting cheese and was also amazing. For entries my wife had a glazed salmon which she loved and I had a New York aged bone in strip. I actually regret ordering it with the balsamic glaze. This was a thick prime cut of beef. Cooked perfectly medium rare. The balsamic was sweet and a little spicy and only detracted from the natural flavor of the meat. We also ordered a side of Au Gratin Potatoes for the table. Easily large enough for two or more people. They were delicious but there was so much we couldn't possibly finish it. We didn't have time for desert but we will be back next time we see a show at the 5th or perhaps, on another special occasion. If you love steak, and you like it cooked properly, this is a great place to take that special someone on a special occasion. Oh and BTW "cooked properly" means "Medium rare" :). Oh my gosh, what an amazing experience. Our waiter made our night that much better and I cannot wait to come back in the near future whenever we are in town. First off, we were greeted at the hostess station where we were quickly taken to our seat. Our waiter introduced himself and took amazing care of us throughout the course of dinner. We ordered the crab and lobster cake and I must say it was delicious. The amount of crab and lobster in there is fantastic. It's absolutely the best crab and lobster cake I've ever had. The steaks were about 7/10. One in the party had a pretty dry $74 steak. The AuGratin potatoes were excellent. The Crab cakes are the best we've ever had. Something weird about our service is that they kept asking if they could take our bread. They must have asked 4x. We like our bread throughout the meal, not sure why they were so adamant about clearing it. Just leave it be. Every blue moon I've visited this place since 2021; been on the fence about rating it as far as Seattle steakhouses are concerned, but finally landed on 3 stars. I've come to this rating after 4 years of rotating through all the other highly-rated steak places in town, including the Butcher's Table, El Gaucho, Bourbon Steak (now closed), Ascend, STK Steakhouse, Aqua, 67 Restaurant, Palisade, Daniel's Broiler, and the Metropolitan Grill. The last one I consider best in Seattle if you don't wish to read more. What makes the Capital Grill so bad is the service. The last time I was here, which was at some point last year, I was served a bone-in filet Mignon for the bone-in New York steak I ordered, and today, I was served a porcini mushroom rubbed rib-eye for the 22 oz bone-in 'regular' rib-eye I ordered. I dislike both. The porcini rubbed steak should disappear from the menu for being devoid of any beef flavor. Another time I ordered a New York steak medium rare and it came out well done. Why, one must ask... one disappointment after another. Miscommunication? Incompetence? Constant mix up in the kitchen? Surplus steaks being dumped on unsuspecting customers like they wouldn't notice? This is why nobody knows me at the Capital Grill. I don't go here. And the only reason I didn't go to the Met was they were booked out for Father's Day weekend. This is also why everyone knows me at the Metropolitan. For years I've visited every 2 weeks because it's the best steakhouse in Seattle (please read my other review on it). Of note, seeing the Capital Grill rated higher than the Met at 4.5 stars with over 1k reviews makes me extremely suspicious.
