- A M B I A N C E - The interior was clean and the place had seating area both on the inside and outside. The place is usually empty inside so when you walk in, the employee is ready to help you or answer any questions that you have. They have some really nicely decorated cakes on display that you can see from the outside (I didn't take a photo). - S E R V I C E - The employee is friendly. The Swedish Princess looked very interesting to me and the employee was able to explain to me what the layers in the cake are. - F O O D - *Swedish Princess Slice* This airy sponge cake has layers of pastry cream, raspberry jam (i think), and whipped cream with it. It is covered by a layer of marzipan so the almond flavor was pretty noticeable when I first took a bite. I thought this cake is pretty unique. - P R I C E - A slice of Swedish Princess cake was $7.45, which is I think is decent for something like this. I also shared it with a friend and half a slice was more than enough for me after getting brunch nearby.
March is a busy month of friends and family members' birthdays. Appreciate a bakery dedicated to cakes. The Cakery is a small cake shop on Burlingame Ave in Burlingame. Parking is on the street. No dining areas but of course, there are benches along Burlingame Ave. Sometimes it's just nice to get a sample of cake slices versus a whole cake to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed the vegan mango tarts, marjolaine cake, and dark chocolate mouse cake. The vegan mango treats came as two pieces and were so good if you prefer a fruity sweet treat. The marjolaine cake seemed dry to our taste. While the dark chocolate mouse cake was heavenly to taste as it was so light in sponge but gave you a good sample of dark chocolate that wasn't rich but just right in texture and smoothness. Will likely return for either a whole cake to order or just get a sample of goodies.
I live in San Diego and ordered a small wedding cake for my friend and his wife on their wedding day, as many of our friends we went to school with couldn't be there to celebrate with them due to the pandemic. All of us were completely floored at how amazing the cake turned out that I can over look the typo in Congratulations. The cake turned out even better than I imagined as I only supplied pictures of the image I wanted to be on the cake, thinking they would just put the double happiness kanji outlined in gold icing. This cake turned out so visually stunning and the perfect touch for their special day. We also ordered a carrot cake cupcake and the happy couple were thrilled with how delicious everything turned out. Thank you The Cakery for being super communicative, top notch customer service in delivery, and helping to make this day for my friends even more special!
I ordered these lovely cupcakes to go! I loved the taste of the cake and how soft and decadent it is. The decoration of the cupcakes are beautiful! My coworkers and I enjoyed eating them!
As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise surprise surprise!" That was my reaction when my coworker came to the office on the last Saturday in August when she handed me a white paper box. I brought it home and shared it with my family. When opening the white box, I learned that my birthday cake was a chocolate mousse cake (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=enTluPHdUegaEg7ZftGCcw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I cut the cake and shared it with my family that weekend. I made the mistake of taking it out of the fridge before dinner so the cream, filling, and frosting softened a little so the cake felt more rich when we ate it after dinner. A few days later, I cut slices again for the family to share. This time, the cake was still cool as we ate it about ten minutes after I removed it from the refrigerator. I enjoyed this a lot more at this temperature and in a firmer state. Thank you for my thoughtful coworker for making a special trip from the East Bay in getting me this cake. My family and I enjoyed it but I'm not sure my primary doctor will as much.
This was my first time ordering a custom cake from The Cakery and I'm pretty satisfied! I placed my order about a week in advance. I provided photos of what I wanted the cake to look like inside and out -- my expectations were definitely met. The cake was a bit pricey considering it was small, but it was worth it. I would've given five stars, however, we agreed that the pick up time would be at 3pm, but it wasn't ready until about 4:15pm. I wasn't notified about the delay until about 2:40pm, when I was already on my way there. I do understand that things can get backed up, most especially on weekends. Overall, I'm thankful that they were able to create a nice gender reveal cake within a weeks notice! Thanks for being part of our special day!
Planning for a birthday party, Mike C. offered to bring the cake for the birthday celebrant. I was looking forward to tasting this cake, as he finds great delicious eats from his culinary adventures. He brought the cake out after dinner and it was Coffee Crunch Cake from The Cakery. First thing you notice was all the coffee crunch candy on the outside. I tried a slice and the three layers of vanilla sponge cake was moist from the light coffee syrup and layered with whipped cream. The coffee crunch candy provided a nice texture contrast with each bite, though I found the candy to be a little on the sweet side. Thanks Mike C for bringing this and letting us try another tasty coffee crunch cake for us to consider from The Cakery.
I love Princess Cake but I usually don't like marzipan on the outside of most princess cakes. The marzipan on Cakery's princess cake is more sweet and not so "almond-ny". Everything inside is light, airy and fluffy. A+++ I got 5 different slices and everyone was super yummy! Especially the lemon!
Got a chocolate cupcake. Tasted dry and bland. I had tasted better ones made from a box. Not much chocolate flavor. Butter cream was also below par. Not sure I want to eat anymore after taking one bite. Not worth filling my stomach when there are so many better options around. Customer service was also not great. Didn't feel welcomed here.
Staff was very nice Over the phone they were very attentive and helpful when I ordered. We got the chocolate cake very delicious with the coco and dark chocolate. Great with a glass of milk can't wait to celebrate another event to bring a delicious cake
Received cupcakes yesterday as a birthday gift via Uber Eats. Sadly they were just blah. Not a lot of flavor, frosting was too sweet and bland, the cake itself was dry. I've made better cupcakes from a box with more flavor and better texture. They tasted like cupcakes made several days ago :( super disappointing
We love this place and have been coming for their croissant sandwich combo! We love the PROMOTION where you get a free drink when you order a sandwich. Their smocked salmon and chicken salad sandwich are both very good. The staff are all super nice and friend every time we come. Highly recommend grabbing a bite if you're strolling around Burlingame downtown!
The best princess cakes in the bay - soft, fluffy and fresh ! These are my favorite types of cake and this bakery is always consistent and delicious. We have moved further away but still make the trip to this bakery for special occasions. The cakes usually run out by the evening and the bakery closes early - and is closed on Sundays. So do check timings and call for availability before heading there. Itsylocated in downtown burlingame so parking can be a challenge on weekends. I highly recommend this bakery !
Did you know that the original owner of Schubert's on Clement is the same person who, after selling Schubert's, opened the Cakery in Burlingame? Had a nice chat with Sales Associate Rosa at the Cakery who enlightened me to this interesting tidbit. ... If you've been Following my reviews you will know... I am absolutely in love with Schubert's princess cake. This may explain why the princess cake at the Cakery has often been hailed as very similar to the one from Schubert's. Even though the Cakery has changed hands. They still offer memorably delicious cakes. I couldn't resist a slice of strawberry cream cake for lunch which was moist and light and ohh sooo good. Picked up a princess cake to enjoy with family and friends tonight. The verdict, while similar, I still prefer the Schubert's princess cake for its lightness and less sweet finish. Schubert's princess cake also has a more predominant almond flavor. Both memorably delicious. In fact, the consensus over the dinner table amongst friends and family was deeeelicious! And my cousin, who's the most important critique says I can bring the princess cake from either place over anytime! Would definitely return for either cake or to try the double chocolate cake which is Rosa's recommendation or coffee crunch cake that Mike C. recommended for next time. Suspect there will be many more times visiting the Cakery on Burlingame Avenue! read more
This place is nestled between popular cafe/bakeries, but in terms of food, I liked this place better! And there's no line. SMOKED SALMON ON CROISSANT - so good!! Their croissant is buttery and soft, and with a generous amount of salmon neatly packed in together. I kind of wish there was a sauce on the side to go with it. Bestie had the turkey wrap. He liked it but my salmon croissant was superior. Also the CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT CAKE (not the official name aha) this was so good! Dense and nutty with rich hazelnut and chocolate flavor. Best eaten the day of, as it dried out in my fridge aha. The interior feels quite empty, with some tables by the window, it might be cuter and more functional! read more

Really nice pastries and cakes! I ordered a few mini cakes for my birthday and they all were delicious and very creamy! Cute little bakery nestled in the heart of Burlingame. They've got everything! Cakes, cupcakes, custom made or by the slice. They have a website you can engage with them about orders or custom builds. They do cakes for all occasions. In ordered the Double Chocolate Mousse cake which was amazing! Very creamy and airy! This dessert will not weigh you down. The Swedish Princess slice is good, too, and creamy with berry jam layer inside. The Mango Mousse cake is vegan and surprisingly creamy and very good. Two little cake bars with lots of mango bursting on top of a graham cracker moist crust. I definitely recommend this bakery for all your sweets needs! read more

I finally made a visit to the infamous Cakery! Unfortunately, not for their cakes but for a sweet treat for my fried. So, I can't attest to their cakes... but I can for the cheesecake sold by the slice, and for the service! I wasn't sure what to get my friend, so I asked one of the ladies behind the counter between the personalized mousse or cheesecake. She said both were popular, but more depends on the person, and knowing my friend, she is much more of a cheesecake lover. The service was quick and easy with friendly staff. They accept samsung pay, which is a convenient thing and... my friend basically inhaled the cheesecake and kept moaning "yummm soooo good" --- so I'm sure their cakes are also just as good. I'm definitely looking forward to come back to try the goods when I'm not on keto anymore lol! read more

I have always been a fan of The Cakery and ordered from this place whenever we have special celebrations. Fruit tart is one of the most loved items on their menu. Buttery crust, sweet custard and loaded with fresh fruit. As usual, I ordered a fruit tart for today's pick up for a celebration and I was VERY disappointed. Never have they been so stingy on the fruit but today the strawberry slices are so sadly arranged on the tart. They are so thin and so "dehydrated". They looked like they have been sitting in the fridge for much longer than anticipated. I ended up not bringing the tart to the celebration and bought a cake from another bakery. It's so sad to see the quality had gone down so much. read more

Came by to pick up a birthday cake and check out some cookies. Bought a bag of oatmeal cookies earlier this week when we ordered the cake. They were a medium soft and not dry at all. You could tell they were fresh and the bottoms of the cookies had a dusting of flour on them. The store has a variety of cakes, pastries and bread. Festive 4th of July decorated cookies were wrapped up ready for the holiday, chocolate and regular macaroons, assorted cookies wrapped in boxes, etc. We mainly come here for just the Mango Mousse Cake because it's been a family favorite for years. It's a refined, pretty cake with a glazed decoration topped with fruits and a gold ribbon wrapped around it vs. just a standard cake topped with chunks of Mangoes like at Red Ribbon. It's perfect after a heavy meal. My good friend used to live a few blocks away and used to know the baker/owner. She told me it's changed ownership. I would rather support local as you see the personalization and care they put into the product. Can't wait to dive into my cake!! read more

As much as I wanted to give a good rating for the taste of the custom cake I ordered, the experience just doesn't allow me to. I ordered a custom black buttercream chocolate cake for my husband's milestone birthday and guess what - our hands, mouth, teeth everything turned black. I have ordered vibrant colored buttercream cakes a lot and have never seen this. Paying $295 for a custom cake, the least I would/should expect is a good experience. On reaching out the next morning since no one could eat the cake without staining their teeth, the response I got was just not acceptable. I was told it my fault to choose a dark color because dark buttercream cakes end up staining (which is incorrect) minor staining is acceptable but we washed our hands multiple times to get rid of the color but our hands were the same. (Added picture for reference) The Cakery didn't take any ownership and put the blame on me. If their cakes end up staining, I would love that guidance before I placed the order and would have ordered differently. I was also told that people don't really care about the taste or staining with a custom cake as they only care about the aesthetics. I have to disagree on that as the premium price I'm paying should be justified. Well, all in all 2/5 rating from me. I would've given a 1/5 but the extra point for the taste. I would not be trying this place again and feel I can get a better experience from other bakeries. If you're looking to pick a available cake, then it is fine. read more

Absolutely a gem! Ordered here multiple times, several birthday cakes for my family and friends, and they never disappointed. This time I had the Mini Chocolate Mousse Cake ($5.50), and it was absolutely amazing. Soft, flavorful rich and decadent dark chocolate mousse cake covered with chocolate fudge, not too sweet, just perfect. Unfortunately I can't recall the name of the other slice we got, it was super tasty too, but I won't order again since too sweet for my palate. I can't wait to go back and try their croissants!!! read more
I used to come here a lot when I worked nearby. This is a great bakery both for cakes and pastries. Their Princess cake is really good, super moist good. Their vanilla eclair here is mouthwatering. What sets Cakery apart from the other bakeries nearby is that they have a good selection of ready made cakes for last minute birthdays and anniversary, but you can also buy regular pastries here like their danish rings (serving for 4-6) which is delicious. I've been buying my Sweetheart's Valentine's goodies here for years. It's all wrapped up and ready to go. There are a couple of tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your sweet cravings, while you sip and enjoy your hot chocolate or cappuccino. Service here have always been quick and efficient. Best time to come here is around 2pm when everyone is back at work and before the kids get out of school. Cheers! read more

I needed carrot cake for my husband as that was his request for his birthday. I really wanted to make one for him, but I procrastinated and then ran out of time. I was already across the street getting his gift from Topper, and after getting it wrapped at Papyrus, I called The Cakery to find out if they had carrot cake. They said they only had cupcakes; I figured cupcakes were better than no cake! The employees were super nice and the one who answered my phone call remembered the call and helped me. They had five cupcakes left, and though I really only wanted two, I bought all five. Customer service was five stars, and I'd give the cupcake 3.5 for taste. It wasn't as flavorful and moist as I would have liked, but my husband thought it was pretty good. They have so many other things to choose from, so I'll be back to try other types of goodies. read more

Ah! What can I say... they have exceeded my expectations yet again! Beautiful and delicious frozen themed cupcakes for my daughter's 4th birthday. I corresponded with Rosa over emails. She was very prompt with her responses and made the order placing process a "piece of cake" ;) I was able to pay over the phone and pick up on my day of choice. Very happy with the entire experience except the time I was trying to pay for the cupcakes over the phone. First I was put on hold for like 20mins by some young man, then I called again and the girl was about to charge me 3x the quoted price but when I told her what my quote was she was able to clarify with Rosa and charge the appropriate amount. Other than this little hiccup everything went smoothly. read more
Local bakery that has everything you need from fresh baked bread, croissants, pastries and of course delicious cakes. This is one of my go places for getting special occasion cakes. I have probably tried a of their cakes and my favorite has to be the princess cake and chocolate mouse cake. It is to die for. My colleague sent me some cupcakes and other desert treats using DoorDash for my birthday. Immediately, I had a new addiction and ever since then, I have been ordering all kinds of goodies from The Cakery nearly every week (its a horrible addiction for the wallet, really). I'm ashamed to say that I've tried almost everything on their menu. They offer random cupcake and pastry boxes, which I think is a steal in terms of pricing, and so I've had all kinds of cupcakes, breads, pastries, and pieces of cake. My favorite cupcake has to be the salt and caramel chocolate cupcake -- perfect amount of salty and sweet. I typically hate any type of baked good that tastes much too sweet but they get it just right here. But my ultimate go-to's are the pastries! There are like a dozen different flavors of danish; I recommend the cream cheese, apple or cinnamon. The almond ring pastry and the cheddar cheese croissants are also amazing. You can order ahead on their store website at what seems like a slightly higher price than in-store which is usually a better idea because they seem sold out of these particular ones whenever I stop by -- twice I've been the one to get the very last cheese danish! read more

In searching for where to get our wedding cake from, there were a few criteria that needed to be met: * Baker who could create a cake that represented us; * Memorable tasty creation; * Budget that was within reason. We were lucky in that the first bakery we tried, The Cakery, provided all these things. Before our meeting, we were asked to come up with four different potential cake combinations. At our tasting, mini cakes of our possibilities were made for tasting and discussion. The care and time put in by the staff told us right away we had found our place, but did try other bakeries, just in case. In the end, The Cakery helped designed three different cake flavors for our wedding cake: 1. Top cake = white cake + passion fruit 2. Middle cake = chocolate cake + mocha + Amaretto (with Kirsch) 3. Bottom cake = Devil's cake + chocolate truffle + Kirsch Like many others, our wedding was a multiple postponed COVID event that finally happened after the third try. The Cakery continued to stay in contact and flexible with the fluid situation. As time went on, how we envisioned our cake to be also changed, and are thankful of The Cakery embracing changes. The cake was a success - beautiful, represented us, and was delicious. At the end of the evening, we asked if there was any leftover. The staff let us know none was left because guests wanted seconds (or more)! Wow...! A year later, for our anniversary, we asked if The Cakery could recreate the cake so we could have a piece of our wedding on our anniversary. Sed was fantastic in that The Cakery team listened to what we wanted and was able to create all three cake flavors into one. My husband was surprised at what we had done and loved the cake all over again. If you're looking for special occasion cakes or just a cake just because, consider The Cakery. They'll take the time and deliver on what's discussed. read more
