From Flour delivers yet again! I have had the pleasure of enjoying several From Flour cakes in the last few years, and this latest one (my wedding celebration cake!) was unmatched. In fact, leading up to the wedding, I kept joking with my husband that I was counting down the days because it was the day I could have my From Flour cake, not because it was our wedding date Not only was my cake absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and moist and delicious (per usual), but Mitzi was great to work with throughout the process. My wedding venue was fairly picky about vendor access hours, insurance requirements, etc etc, but Mitzi worked with me to figure it all out and made sure my cake was delivered on time and in perfect condition. The chocolate cake and earl grey buttercream combo still reigns supreme as my absolute favorite! We also got a lemon poppyseed tier with strawberry buttercream, and the strawberry buttercream was super delicious. Thank you From Flour for making my wedding cake so beautiful! read more

For the overall review, I would give a solid 5-star for Mijji Cakes. It starts with a prompt and informative communication with Mijji san. Good communication skills & pleasant personality. The pickup process is seamless and on time. Starting putting out the cake, everybody raves on the design; simplicity & distinct design. Now, not many guests may appreciate the "kintsugi" japanese design concept; beauty in imperfections. Silly & ignorance guest would expose themselves saying not worth of additional charge :) Yes, it is a pricey type of cake for a specialy occasion and person. I have spend a good $140 for wabi-sabi creation, 6" cake. The cake is tall, it serves more guests if you cut effectively. I supplement with a platter of asst dessert to complement (choc cover strawberry, canoli, coffee mousse, etc). Strawberry cake is moist in the side of tad dry, sweatness of the butter cream is perfectly blend in. After many years operating restaurants, large catering business in hotel, and appreciate London's tea time, I see (and show) how this cake is crafted carefully & mindfully. I do appreciate the efforts. I would try different butter to perfect this masterpiece. Give it a try! you won't disappointed. read more

I have hesitated on buying custom decorated cakes for awhile now just because I've seen/heard that usually if it's super pretty on the outside, it won't taste that good on the inside (like some wedding cakes). But I was so wrong!!! mijjiCakes blew my doubts away and raised my expectations that much higher! I was looking for a custom birthday cake for my mom and ordered via her website a couple weeks in advance. I had some questions before ordering the cake and she was easily accessible through text. After I put in my order, I had additional questions/edits and she responded super quickly over email! On the day of pickup, Mijji sent a text for a quick recap and where her place was located. I had to push back my pickup time and easily let her know through text as well. I picked it up and left it out of the fridge until serving as we would be cutting the cake after dinner. I ordered a chocolate cake with coffee buttercream and it was soooo moist and yummy! Everyone loved the cake and the coffee was the perfect bitter taste to the sweet chocolate cake. I am craving it while writing this review! I am so excited to try out her other flavors and she also has cupcakes! It was my daughters first birthday and I found From Flour randomly. So happy about it! Ordering was super easy and pick up also was a breeze. Honestly though when I opened the box of cupcakes I almost fainted!!! They were the most GORGEOUS decorated cupcakes I have ever seen in my life. I still can't believe it was all done by hand. Such talent!! The cake, filling, and frosting was also delicious. My one year old approved as well. Thank you so much for your unbelievable work. Still in awe. The pictures don't even do it justice. We've tried a few things from mijjiCakes- the cereal milk crunch cake, strawberry dream cake, chocolate with espresso buttercream cupcakes, and vanilla cupcakes. Everything has been absolutely delicious and beautiful. The strawberry dream cake (with purple ombre) was for my brother-in-law's baby shower. The guests were raving about the cake and asking for seconds. Many asked me, where did I get this cake? My Dad, who doesn't usually like cake, couldn't stop talking about how moist it was. And everyone couldn't believe how gorgeous the cake was too! I got the cereal milk crunch cake for my husband for Father's Day. That was also very very good. We ordered the cupcakes for tasting after seeing the good reviews here, but we were disappointed because they are still too sweet. It's probably the same as the American bakery places here, but it's way too sweet for Asian or non-American standards. And the price for the cupcakes is just exorbitant - $5 for a tiny cupcake of 2 inches in diameter, for a total of $60, which is the minimum spending (not sure why we need to have so many cupcakes of the same flavor for tasting). To be fair, the cupcakes are moist and the strawberry flavor tastes fresh and she's very responsive, but other than that, I am disappointed at how sweet everything is and how high the price is. read more

I ordered yet another cake from Mijji at the end of April for my dad's birthday. He was quite impressed by the artistry for the one I ordered for my baby sister. I felt like it was only fair that he got one for himself on his special day. I ordered him the Jungle cake because the man is fierce and also requested a panther if possible (his fave animal, who knew?!). Mijji, being the gem that she is, was so gracious and kind to put up with my special request. Just like my first experience, she was very professional, super easy to work with, and kept me informed about the design and contactless pick-up instructions. Luckily for me, I flew back early from St. Louis and was able to try a slice of her cake. Guys, I am obsessed. Mijji's cakes are as good as they look. I already want to order another one just for myself for no reason whatsoever and I have no shame. My friends in St. Louis request that I send them pictures of the cakes that I order because they're so amazed by them. I've also told my friends in the Bay about Mijji. My only fear is that she's going to become so popular that I won't be able to get a cake unless it's ordered many months out. read more

I first found mijjicakes on people.com when they did an article on Mitzi's marble buttercream technique. And just my luck - she is based in the bay area! Yay!! I ordered one of the shelter in place specials for my husbands birthday - a 4.5" chocolate cake with earl grey buttercream frosting. With Covid19, it was us 2 celebrating, so the 4.5" size was the perfect portion. It tasted DIVINE and had the perfect cake to frosting ratio. The cake was moist, great chocolate flavors, just the right about of sweetness, and the earl grey complimented the chocolate cake really well. Delicous delicious delicious! Presentation was so gorgeous and the complimentary candle was such a nice touch. The cake looked even better in person than on the website. Pick up was a breeze. Mitzi texted me a few hours before my selected cake pick up time and gave clear directions on how to pick up. I had such a great experience with my husbands birthday cake that I ordered another cake for my mom on mother's day! My chinese mother was absolutely impressed by the taste and looks of the cake - and chinese mothers are hard to please! Strawberry dream cake with strawberry compote and matcha green tea frosting. Thank you mijjicakes for making these two events so much more special. Totally worth driving 20 miles to pick up. Looking forwad to ordering a custom cake next!! read more

We ordered a cake from 'from flour' for the first time and it was a big hit for our baby shower. The designs are minimalistic and unique which helps add a great touch for the occasion at hand. We initially faced a little hiccup as we were given the wrong cake but the owner was very prompt in responding to the issue and drove over to deliver the right cake. Highly recommend :) read more

MijjiCakes are not your run of the mill store bought cakes. These cakes are art in cake form. I have been fortunate enough to try her cakes a few times and am blown away every time by her designs. I love that she has a great balance of cream to cake and you're never worried about scraping frosting off the cakes. One other thing I love is that her cakes are not too sweet, which is bad for my waist since it just means I eat more cake..... I would recommend mijjiCakes to anyone wanting to impress at an event! read more

From the first email I sent to Mijji, to the very last, she was SO sweet, flexible, and informative. I had two extremely complicated back-to-back orders that kept changing up until the very last day -- yet she never made me feel bad about it and was extremely patient in dealing with a gazillion emails from a super stressed out me. First order: mini chocolate and earl grey cupcakes that were decorated SO beautifully, the birthday girl could not stop raving about them. They tasted even better than they looked! I also ordered a white cake and berry compote cake for my partner - which was equally delicious! Second order: a surprise 2nd cake for my partner's birthday to celebrate with his best friends a few nights later. I had asked if Mijji could shape the gold on The Glint into the shape of Guam (my partner and his friends are from there) - she went above and beyond to not only accurately shape it, but to add the neighboring islands! When I revealed the cake, everyone was absolutely blown away... pointing out each of the islands! Also, Mijji's cakes are as delicious as they look -- I got the strawberry cake/compote + matcha frosting and while the matcha frosting looks deceivingly thin, it is packed with so much flavor that it's perfectly balanced! Mijji now has 12 new followers who are already planning on ordering their next cakes with her :) Anddd... despite already having a super eventful celebration, my partner said that Mijji's Guam Glint cake reveal was definitely the highlight of his birthday weekend :) read more

We worked with mijji for our wedding, and couldn't be happier with our choice. We knew we just wanted something small, so we reached out to mijii for suggestions for a cutting cake. At the close to last minute, we decided to add in a few dozen cupcakes, which thankfully mijji was willing to accommodate. Before placing our order, we did the tasting box and tried a bunch of flavors. It was really hard to decide what flavors to get because it was all oh so yummy. We ended up going with coffee cream and chocolate for the cutting cake, strawberry cream frosting and vanilla base + vanilla frosting with berry filling + vanilla base for the cupcakes. The quality of all the cakes were top notch, and the fruity ingredients taste incredibly fresh. Of course, we were blown away by mijji's cake designs, which are simple but elegant. We loved working with mijji, who was very responsive and patient with answering all our questions. Pickup was very prompt. Overall, would highly recommend From Flour! read more

I found mijjiCakes while browsing Instagram one day, and I was blown away by how refined, aesthetic, and classy her cakes looked!! I raved about them to all my close friends and 2 of them sent me her cakes for my birthday LOL. The strawberry dream cake with strawberry compote and matcha cream is DELICIOUS. I would rate it 5/5! It's not too sweet and the sour compote provides a nice contrast and makes you crave more. The vanilla with earl grey was nice but tasted a bit plain in comparison. I'd rate that one 4/5! It's so rare to find such aesthetic looking cakes AND have them taste good. Both cakes were absolutely gorgeous inside & out and lived up to my raving expectations. I gave them a proper photo shoot before digging into them :). I can't wait to order these cakes for my friends future bridal showers, birthdays, and other important events! read more

I had previously tried the cake from mijjiCakes through work and it was unbelievable! So I decided to order 2 dozen cupcakes, once for a gender reveal party and another time for a baby shower. It's saying something when everyone is raving about the cupcakes and forgetting what they're at the party for. For the gender reveal, they were both vanilla with a berry compote filling, and the baby shower had half vanilla and half chocolate. The look and design were unique and not something you can get just anywhere. But on top of that, that flavors were amazing! They were the right amount of sweetness and moistness. I was so impressed that I also ordered a 2 tier cake for an anniversary party, and again my expectations were way under what was achieved. Mijji is wonderfully talented and communicative, and made the dessert part of wedding planning very easy and sweet. We got a small 3-tier wedding cake in carrot cake + cinnamon cream cheese buttercream flavor and about 200 cupcakes. Both the cake and cupcakes were gorgeous and delicious. The strawberry buttercream cupcakes and matcha buttercream + berry compote cupcakes in particular were called the best cupcakes ever by our guests. Eating these cupcakes was one of the highlights of my wedding day :P Thank you Mijji! read more

I wish I had a photo of the cake but it was beautiful! I ordered a medium confetti cake for our 100 day celebration for our baby boy. They happily accommodated a design change on the cake with no problem either (ie. change gold accent to silver). Cake tasted AWESOME and everyone raved how yummy it was. ALLERGEN WARNING: they use a special buttercream that contains egg white that is NOT cooked all the way. Sadly we had an allergic reaction in the family and found out it was the icing. I highly recommend working with the baker to figure out a non-egg version if anyone is allergic. read more

I can't recommend this place enough! My husband has been following her on Instagram for a while, and I've been hesitant to spend so much on a cake, but we decided to order one for our baby shower. Mijji is amazing at what she does. I initially bought her cupcakes as I was looking for a vendor to make my wedding cake. The next availability for the wedding sampler was too far so I opted to buy her mini cupcakes in the flavor I thought I'd want for the wedding cake. Lucky enough, her cupcakes are made the same way her cakes are so if this happens to you, you can totally just try her cupcakes - trust me, it's worth it!! Ended up getting the dozen cupcakes with vanilla bean cake and strawberry buttercream with strawberry compote and oh my goodness, was it light and airy and not too sweet. After trying the cupcakes, we decided to go with Mijji for our wedding cake with the vanilla bean cake and strawberry buttercream with strawberry compote. She was super responsive when it came to any changes I needed to make and was helpful when I had any questions. I ended up getting a 3-tier and 2-tier cake and I was blown away at how simple yet beautiful our cake was. Our guests loved her cake so much that some people took it home. All I can say is that Mijji's cakes / cupcakes are bomb.com and you're missing out if you haven't tried yet. read more

TRUST ME-- the cakes are SO good. We ordered the 18-20 chocolate ganache with chocolate cake for our wedding and there were literally no leftovers. Mijji made the process so easy and customized the cake the way I wanted to fit our wedding aesthetic. She also includes the cake shavings if you're interested and those were delicious the next day. Easy coordination and easy pick up process. Very affordable and fair for how gorgeous these cakes are in person. Hurry before she (deservingly) blows up. Can't wait to order another cake!! A very belated review but I had to make sure to sing praises for Mitzi's cakes. Oh my goodness, if I can give her 100 stars out of 5 I would!! I first discovered her on Instagram, and the beauty of her cakes hooked me instantly. I just knew I had to book one of her cakes for a future occasion. The first time I ordered from mijjiCakes was for my friend's birthday. We ordered the strawberry cupcakes with matcha buttercream. The buttercream flowers placed on top were intricate and dainty. They were real showstoppers and impressed everyone (many many photos were taken hahaha). The actual cake itself was moist and the frosting was not too sweet (we liked this very much, and even my other friend who hates matcha liked this!). It is recommended to eat day of for the best experience, as cupcakes dry faster than full size cakes, as expected. For Valentine's Day, I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a cake (lemon cake is his favorite dessert), so naturally I turned to MijjiCakes for help. I saw in a past post on Instagram that she had one cake decorated with heart-shaped macarons floating across the surface of the cake, which I though fit the occasion and our relationship perfectly. I sent her an email inquiring about the possibility of ordering this exact cake design but with a flavor that was not yet an option on the site, lemon. I was worried my request was too inconvenient, but not only was Mitzi super duper responsive and friendly through email, she was so accommodating and she even came up with the idea to pair the lemon cake with poppyseeds, passion fruit curd, with lemon buttercream!! It was a breeze and joy collaborating with her for what will become the best cake we will ever have. The cake was incredibly moist, the passion fruit curd was refreshing, tart, and a wonderful contrast to the silky and perfectly sweet and lemony frosting. The bf and I loved it and the cute macrons (which were also delicious!). Best Valentine's Day ever! Pick up for both occasions were seamlessly easy- great communication with Mitzi and contact free handoffs. The goods were packed nicely, and even the box and complimentary candle were very cute! My sister in law has ordered multiple cakes from mijji, and all of them have been absolutely amazing. (My favorite so far is the strawberry cake.) The frosting is very distinct and has a rich buttery consistency, and the cake is not too sweet but still very tasty. The owner pays a lot of attention to detail, so every cake comes out beautifully. Five stars without a doubt! read more

I was so happy that I happened upon Mijji's shop when I was looking for wedding cakes back in July. My partner and I decided to move ahead with a virtual wedding and I was so grateful to see that Mijji's shop was still doing business and would be able to provide us with a gorgeous cake. Initially I was really blown away by the beautiful cakes and was even more excited to hear that she operates out of San Mateo (a convenient option for us Peninsula folks!). Everything about using Mijji as our cake vendor was flawless. Ordering was very simple, contactless delivery worked great, the timeline from ordering to delivery was super fast and Mijji was very communicative throughout the process. The cake arrived just as beautiful as it looked on the website and honestly exceeded my taste expectations. We ordered the Carrara with rainbow confetti sponge and it was so.good. I have to thank Mijji for helping to make our virtual wedding so special. Even though we weren't able to be have our wedding in person with all our loved ones like we had planned, we still were able to really enjoy some of the small things like a delicious, beautiful hand crafted wedding cake. The only thing difficult about this was choosing which cake to order! In my opinion, you don't need a special occasion to enjoy yourself a beautiful, tasty cake. Just get the damn cake! Cool people secret - Mijji Cakes now bakes and sells donuts. And they are mind meltingly delicious. Go to her site and click on "Specials" and then "Proof Donut Co" to glimpse the magnificence. We have ordered boxes of donuts on two separate occasions from Mijji and team. I've been following mijjiCakes for a while on Instagram, and for a recent anniversary I decided to order one. Her online customization process is very easy, and I appreciated her flexibility in working with me to figure out if my design was feasible. Her delivery process is easy, flexible, and contactless. The actual cake we received was delicious. The chocolate cake was light, but didn't compromise on depth of flavor. Earl grey buttercream complimented perfectly. And of all, her cakes are balanced well and not too sweet. I can confidently say MijjiCakes delivers on style and substance. I will be ordering from her again! wow. all i can say after opening the box and then biting into the cake. one of the best cakes i eaten in a long time. it was so moist and not overly sweet. the flavors were to die for. and then the marble on the frosting was beautiful. she even threw in some donuts on top that her fiance made. the almond butter donut was so delicious and creamy. the pick up process was a bit unique, picking up at an apartment near whole foods. had to find a white fence where a few people were sitting. took a few minutes of driving in circles to find it but it was worth the bit of hassle. strict instructions on how to eat and store if not finished immediately but thats just to get the best experience. definitely going to order from here for all my celebrations and occasions. read more

All orders require at least 4 days advance notice as long as we have availability, and we do not have a store front. History

Established in 2018.

Baking and art have always been passions of Mijji's, which led her to 5 years as a decorator and Wedding & Events coordinator at a successful bakery. In 2017, cakes became an obsession, and she experimented daily with recipes and designs while also juggling a full-time job at a tech start-up in San Francisco. Her co-workers became her guinea pigs, as it became normal for her to bring a cake to work almost every day. Within a few months, Mijji started getting regular requests for cakes from friends and family, which then became friends of friends and family, and then eventually completely new people. In October of 2019, she decided to take the leap and dedicate herself full-time to From Flour!

Current prices are $50 for an 8". It's cash only so be prepared. The cake itself is on the light side (not as light as Asian cakes but I wouldn't call it dense either). Unlike some other reviewers that found it dry-- I highly disagree as it was not the most moist cake I've ever tried-- But it wasn't dry either. It was right in between and good enough for us. The Mocha flavor was lightly infused in the frosting and filling. It wasn't super overpowering but it was definitely there. The crunch topping was perfect and so unique. The only other place I've tried a crunch topping is in a latte from Kamurocho in Pleasanton. They have a "Honeycomb Latte" that is amazing. We served half the cake at one gathering and we ended up bringing the leftovers to another gathering. The cake was devoured. Upon entry, we were welcomed by a brightly lit and very clean venue. Ray and I were immediately drawn to the beautiful marble-topped white counter that encased a gorgeous variety of exquisite treats. The commitment to the elegance of French culture and modern creativity were evident in every luxurious pastry and cake on display. Maison Alyzée is an order-at-the-counter establishment, so we made our purchase with a friendly staff member at the register. Unfortunately, we were told that espresso drinks were no longer available that night since the staff had already begun cleaning the machines. Ok....I never understand businesses that start shutting down things before closing time. This just shows customers that team convenience of closing shop quickly takes precedence over customer experience, essentially omitting availability of items from the menu while they are still open. For this reason, I am docking a star. Luckily, they still had some cold brew available, so I ordered a Lavender Cold Brew with oat milk. Heads-up: Plant-based milks like almond and oat milk incur a $0.75 surcharge. I wish that the lavender was more like a simple syrup, so that the flavour was sweeter and less sharp. Maison Alyzée also offers a selection of breakfast, lunch, and brunch options. I definitely need to return to try one or two or a few of their ostentatious delights.
