I hate to give one star but Ive given this company enough chances. I have been using The Cab for a few years now, mostly because of the easy to remember number. In the past year I have experienced a racist driver who proceeded to tell me, "You know the problem with black people is.. (eww it kills me to even type that but I feel like people need to know what they are dealing with and the company NEEDS to hold these drivers accountable). I called to complain and the person acted like they didnt care or didnt know what to do with a complaint. When I asked the driver to pull over and let me out because I couldnt listen to his racist remarks anymore he accused me of not being able to pay? Ive also had drivers to go to appointments to the hospital ask really personal, invasive questions, and even had a cab driver ask me to walk somewhere else a block over to meet him somewhere else (when I was supposed to be on modified bedrest). Oh, and I also had someone driver me somewhere with chickens in the back of his car and didnt even thik to mention that there were chickens in the van with us? I should have just stopped giving them so many chances. The dispatchers have always been great but lately it has taken over 7 minutes to even reach someone. WARNING: DRIVERS MAY ATTEMPT TO ASSAULT YOU, COMPANY WILL NOT CARE!!! So I had to visit my friend's house in Kalihi, and I called TheCab; I was picked up by a very unfriendly Korean guy (I'm Korean American btw). He got lost in the mountains, mainly because he must've been new and he was having trouble following my directions. Halfway there, he stops in the middle of nowhere on the mountains and refuses to go further. I was angry, as he expected me to walk in the black of night in the wilderness by myself! As I was getting out, he demanded that I pay him. Outraged, I paid him with my credit card so as to mark his specific cab for complaint to the company later. As he drives off, I hear him shout at me from his seat in Korean, calling me a "faggot". I was so outraged I shouted back at him, also in Korean, "you dirty, lowdown dog!!!" (which is NOWHERE near as bad as what he called me!!!!) That's when he slammed on the breaks and got out. He slammed his door closed and paced on me- I figured he thought he could brutally beat me with no witnesses around in the dead of night in the middle of nowhere. I was very scared, but I held my cool, looking him straight in his psychotic, wide- open eyes and calmly informed him (well, as calm as I could be with a deranged maniac about to beat me into a bloody pulp) that if he touched a single hair on my head, I would be calling 911 immediately to report his assault, and that he was being unwise because he was a registered taxi driver (I mean, duh, I could see his license plate from where I was standing and praying for dear life!). He must've come back to his senses, and must've realized that I was going to call 911 immediately afterwards because he angrily pointed his finger at me and told me that he was going to call the police first and report that I was the one who tried to assault him and rob him and that he was going to put me in jail. I yelled back "oh yeah, if I was going to rob or assault you, then why did I pay you, IN CREDIT CARD NO LESS!!!" Well, I called the police and a few days later TheCab's CEO personally called me to apologize (at least nominally)- however, even though he seemed sweet and understanding at first, the moment I mentioned that the cops already came to my house to extensively interview me he literally turned ice cold and said "then I have nothing left to say to you" and promptly hung up without offering me any kind of recompense. I mean, WHAT?!?! :O Ever since then, I have been using Hawaii's other cab companies, mainly Charley's and Pony Taxi, and have mostly been greeted by saner, more sanguine old men who were happy to do their job to completion without threatening my very life and limb. I used to like the Cab until today. I worked with them quite often when I worked in news at KGMB aka Hawaii News Now. I now work at Straub and I needed to go from my office at the hospital to a doctor's appointment at Physicians Office Building II (POB 2) at Queen's. It's not more than one mile. I would have walked but I am in a leg cast. I called The Cab and the dispatcher was fast and courteous. The company sent me a text message saying Taxi #226 was dispatched. My concern is that the driver didn't assist me even though I was in a cast with a cane. When I told him Queen's POB 2 he said, "No meter ok!" I asked him how much and he said "Ten dollah, no meetah". Yes, that's right!!! I Paid TEN dollars to have him drive me about eight to ten blocks to Queen's. That doesn't count the three dollar tip I gave him. Not even a thank you or "can I help you get out?". Needless to say, I called someone nice enough to take me back to work after my doctor's appointment. If I could give them ZERO stars, then that's DEFINITELY what they'd be getting!!! I am so pissed off at TheCab, it's not even funny. Let me just tell you the story: Last night a big group of people and myself went out. We all, obviously had a few alcoholic beverages and YES, we were intoxicated. On our mission to get one of our friends home, we called TheCab a couple of times. The first was to my boyfriend's friend's house. The second time around, we weren't too sure where we were going so we ended up at the wrong address. That was fine, since it was our fault, but at this point, one of our friends was just done. He had already finished his bouts of puking and was just at the point of wanting to sleep. So we called TheCab to come pick us up. When the driver came, he saw my boyfriend carrying our friend and though he was CLEARLY NOT THROWING UP, the driver was like, "Is he throwing up? Oh no, I can't pick you guys up." Then he bailed. Of course, we were livid, WHAT THE FUCK is the point of driving a gosh darn taxi if you're not going to pick people up?! Isn't that your frickin' job? So then we call another taxi service, who also fails to pick us up. And then another TheCab driver comes and bails on us too. FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON. Them thinking that our friend was going to puke, though he clearly was just sleeping. That is plain old UN-FUCKING-ACCEPTABLE! The reason people call cabs is to get where they have to go. Late at night, probably the number one reason these people get business is because people DON'T WANT TO BE DRIVING DRUNK. So basically, the message TheCab is sending is that because they're too concerned about the interior of their cars, they'd rather leave an intoxicated person stranded on the side of the road. To me, that also says that they'd rather the person drive drunk, than pick them up. What. The. Hell. Is that?! I am NOT happy about this WHATSOEVER. Awful! The cab driver for this company mis-represented himself as a driver from another company (that I had already pre-paid for) and took us for a scary ride to the airport. Once I figured out that he had scammed me, it was too late as we were already a few miles from the Honolulu airport. I noticed on our ride that the vehicle's check engine light and tire pressure lights were on. As I reflect on this experience I'm pretty sure this vehicle was not very safe. Our cabbie seemed very nervous (because he knew he was scamming us) and did not seem to be a very safe driver. It's a real shame that our Hawaiian vacation ended this way. Worst cab company on the island, hands down. THIS is how bad they are: 1) They drive abnormally slow 2) They take the longest possible route 3) Drivers are grumpy and unfriendly 4) They refuse to take any constructive criticism to improve themselves 5) They make a fuss if you try to use a credit card (why have a credit card option then?) 6) One on occasion they refused to take a group of us (7 of us trying to catch 2 different cabs) from Aloha Tower to Ala Moana. We practically had to force our way into the cab just so they couldn't drive away - we found out later that this happened because the cab drivers felt that the ride wasn't "far enough" and they wouldn't make that much money off of us. Yep, believe it! 7) I once spoke to an apparent relative of the owners of Cab and this person threatened to SUE me because I said the Cab has bad service. ....hahaha. If I could give negative stars I would! I scheduled a Cab with them for the following day because I'm in Ewa Beach and knew there probably wouldn't be many in the area, especially at 3am. Imagine my frustration when I get a call from one of their drivers at 2:50am saying he won't be in my area till 3:30. What was the point of calling ahead, hours in advance? If they can't promise pick up times that should be disclosed to potential customers, AND why even let people schedule pick up times if you will not honor them? Should have just used Uber or Lyft!! I have always been a very good tipper and long time customer of the cab. Since I appreciate their call back system when they arrive, but I would have to say some of the worst drivers and customer service I have ever received. Tonight I was called and the rude driver was curt and sounded befuddled that he did not know where my address was. I quickly grabbed my things and hurried to the street so I would be visible. Calling the disbatch back I was notified that "my cab" had went pass my address on purpose and picked up another fare near by as I waited in the rain. I've taken the cab on occasion when I first moved here. I own a motorcycle now and I've lost count of how many times these inconsiderate pricks tried to kill me on the road in Waikiki. I always heard stories of how taxi drivers get assaulted and beaten, now I know why and I totally understand... They just drive in whatever lane they want, don't use their signal and muscle their way into lanes without even looking! Even when I took the cab in the past, they always went the long way and drove 20mph in a 35mph road just to jack up the prices. I've had to tell them to pull over and let me out because I knew they were purposely driving in the wrong direction, assuming that I was stupid and didn't know my way around town. Then he got out and tried to yell at me for not giving him a tip! I've rarely been urged to punch someone in the face as much as that night. And if you're black, good luck hailing a cab through these guys. I've seen them pass up black men and women just to stop right past them to pick up some other people (not black). Avoid them, dishonest non-english speaking drivers. Picked up at Queens Hospital to Ward center ($9.00 fare according to dispatcher). The driver took me to downtown area all while I was asking him where he was taking me? Scam - acted like he did not understand "WARD CENTER", finally got him to take me to correct location using my phone GPS. Bill $20.00, would not reduce fare for his mistake, asked for Receipt and he gave me a blank receipt for another Cab company. I Called THE CAB business office, talked to a manager who took my number and never called me back. Even the dispatcher said this was wrong. Truly a horrific experience. I left moose's nightclub intoxicated and caught one of their cabs outside. I fell asleep expecting to end up in Aeia, which is where I live but somehow ended up in Kaneohe. Even though I was intoxicated there is no way I told the driver to drop me off there as I am completely unfamiliar with the area. Scary. Our driver failed breathalyzer while we were in car. No kidding. Shit he almost hit a woman in a cross walk and then he yelled at her. The car was in terrible shape, but the driver arrived on time - did i mention he failed a Breathalyzer test that checks his blood alcohol level - it would be a damn prerequisite that any driver pass this essential test. Absolutely terrible! 422-2222 is easy to remember and use, but the service is down right awful! They do not take long, but If someone waives your cab down before they get to you, good luck! I've been late to work on numerous occasions because they picked up another party on the way and their only response is: "okay, I'll send out another cab." The drivers sometimes don't speak good English or are really good at pretending they don't understand what you're saying. Also, If you tell them your destination (ex. Ala moana mall) and you try to give them directions, they argue with you and tell you that they are going to take you the route they know. Charlie's is a much better cab service. read more

I have lived here for 2 years and have had multiple bad experiences with the cab. Half of them don't speak English and I've only been in a handful of cabs that actually take credit cards. I'll share with you two bad experiences I've had for example: 1. The end of my freshmen year of college I was trying to move out of the dorms and catch my flight back home. Everything is crazy during this time but I managed to flag a cab and I loaded up the bags I had with me and asked him to wait while I grabbed the rest from my room (not an outrageous request). He started unloading my bags saying he could find another fare and I actually had to offer him more money to wait because I was in a hurry to catch a flight. He turned the meter on before this exchange even happened and charged me for every bag including my backpack and small pet cage. So the total was already $15.00 before we went anywhere. He took me the long way and also told me he took credit cards so when I finally got to the airport and had a $59.00 fare (which should have been $35.00, I've taken cabs to and from those destinations before) and I handed him my card and he told me I had to give him cash! I had $60.00 in my wallet so I gave him that and he actually started to argue with me about not tipping him! He locked the trunk and it took about 5 minutes of heated exchange to get him to release my bags. That was such a terrible experience and I almost missed my flight because of him I broke down and cried on the airplane. I wish I remembered this Jerks name! 2. This one is much shorter, I apologize for the novel above! I was trying to flag a cab to my friends house on 4th of July and I was going from hobron to the ala wai near kanekapolei and when I finally got one the guy was very rude, his car stank like someone threw up in it and he never bothered to clean it! The fare was only $9.45 so I gave him a 20 and asked for 7 back. He tried to short change me! He pulled a big wad of cash out of his pocket and grabbed 5 ones and gave them to me. He tried to argue when I told him he didn't give me enough back so I demanded the full amount of change back and left. Which is something I never do as a student that lives off my tips! Bad customer service and sneaky tactics never get you anywhere! I have taken all of my business to other cab companies since these horrible exchanges and I'll never go back to The Cab! read more

My main issue is the inconsistency with the cab drivers and their cars. Sometimes you get a nice driver and a clean car and then sometimes you get a total jerk driver and a car that's smelly or dirty. This past weekend I was very upset by the woman driver of Cab #13. En route to my house I mentioned I'd be using my credit card and she became quite upset and rude, actually yelling at me. I told her to pull over and let me out if she didn't want to take my credit card. She said it was "too late" - I rarely ever lose my temper but I just do not appreciate being treated poorly. I told her that The Cab is a company that accepts credit cards and if she didn't like it then she shouldn't work for the company. She did not give me a receipt and was even more agitated when I asked her to please print my receipt. Then I asked her what her cab number is and she said "oh no, no problem, we take credit card, no problem"... Uh, yes there is a problem and I will not use The Cab anymore. EcoCab from now on. Nice drivers, nice cars, and using a credit card is super easy with their tablet pad. read more

Everyone on yelp seems to be giving this company all bad reviews and I understand and can Relate to some of the experiences I have read from others. Me and my gf and also family members have been taking "the cab" for quiet some time now and let me just say that I'm glad the eco cab came around. The cab's drivers, most of them are very unfriendly and don't speak English they will act like they don't know where they are going just to keep the meter going. Most of them are rude one yelled at my mother for forgetting to close the door! IDC who you are but you don't yell at my mother like that! He could have asked nicely. Another one yelled at my gf over the phone when she asked him to wait 5 min he yelled at her on the phone and told her to hurry up! Like geez she would have payed a little extra for the wait but best believe we cancelled and called another cab. It is also true that they drive reckless! I've actually witnessed a cab driver hit a guy as he was crossing by Walmart keeaumoku. I've had a cab driver not listen to me when I tried to give him directions in traffic once I was telling him to go on the faster lane but he refused and complained about how he didn't want to keep switching lanes cause he said "that's terrible". Another one purposely took the long way and when I complained and told him he was going the wrong way he told me it was faster and ofcourse I ended up paying more than usual. Some even grumbles and sighs really loud to let you know they're annoyed and when I tried to complain once to the cab company i was so angry and was cussing on the phone the operator hung up on me I guess I shouldn't have cussed at the operator so I tried to call back again but no answer at all. I booked this company online to take my mom to the airport when she was visiting. I received a confirmation email and all of the information was correct (time, date, address, etc.), so I thought we were all set. The cab didn't show, and when I called to check the woman who answered the phone was rude. They said they had no reservation for us - how did we get a confirmation email then?? They sent a replacement, but we will never use them again. Traveling is stressful enough without worrying if your cab's going to show. read more

This cab company is "horrible" avoid this company at all costs. If you need to arrive any place which requires you to be on time do not book with "The Cab". I made a reservation for a cab to the airport to catch a 6:00 a.m. flight. When the taxi was five minutes late I started to get a bad feeling. I called the dispatcher and sure enough he said that he was "unable to find a car for me". I asked why I didn't get a courtesy call so I could find different arrangements and his replay was that he was busy with other things. Waited patiently for me to pay him since I didn't have the money on me at the time. Only thing wrong is he didn't run the air conditioning for me during the drive. THIS REVIEW is on a specific Cab Driver and NOT TheCab as a whole entity. DO NOT CATCH CAB #712 !!!!! My two daughters and I had breakfast at Shorebirds this morning. After which, we walked to Denny's to pick up two take out meals from Denny's. When we were done, we noticed two taxis waiting just past the Halekulani Hotel. I flagged down the front cab. The driver looked at me but turned away. I walked to the taxi behind, but he pointed to the front in respect for the first in line. I knocked on the window of the front taxi and he rolled the window down. First thing he asked me was if I was a guest at the Halekulani Hotel. I said no. He raised his voice and said "Oh, then you gotta go catch another cab" insistingly. There was a young gal with a clipboard wearing a THE CAB black polo shirt. She was just standing there. I walked up to the second taxi and told him that the first cab, CAB #712 refused to take us. That driver Minh Huynh gestured to the girl in the polo shirt who walked up to Cab #712. Before she could say anything, Cab #712 drove off. I was informed that this cab driver does this kind of stuff all the time. WELL, then what is he still doing representing THE CAB, even as an independently contracted driver? He's making a bad name for the company, especially to the local community!! My experience with The Cab has actually been favorable compared to the other reviewers. My usual route is pretty straightforward and short though - Point A to B - home in Salt Lake to and from the airport when needed. The cabdrivers might be disappointed that my fare is relatively low with my short ride - but oh well! The last time I used The Cab, I scheduled a ride from home to the airport 1-2 hours in advance. I received a text message when a cab was dispatched to my place. Unexpected but appreciated! The cab arrived right on time too! The text included info about an app for the iphone: Taxi Magic. The only reason we call these so-called cab drivers is because their phone number is easy to remember. After 7 years of nonsense, we refuse to do business with The Cab. We have several stories to share, but they upset us so much we'd rather not relive them. In summary: We always have to give them directions. They never speak english (it's only bad because you have to give them directions and they don't understand). They drive below the speed limit, especially when you're about to miss your flight or any important event. They are unprofessional and generally rude. Save your time and sanity and check out EcoCab. Not happy with this company. Ask for a cab when I was at the Surfrider hotel, and the doorman was able to get a cab for me immediately. But unfortunately there was a car in front of us that was unpacking or checking in. After sitting there for 10 minutes waiting for them to unload the car, I looked at the meter and they had charged me two dollars to sit where I'd gotten in the car. When I asked the driver why I was being charged his response was that's a waiting period charge. My response was we haven't moved, why would I be charged for waiting when we haven't gone anywhere. He responded that's just how to meter works. Needless to say I shorted him the two dollars at the end of the ride and recommended that he contact the supervisor to get that fixed. read more
