Hilariously bad service with bogus over-charges. We called them to pick us up at the airport. They made our family drag our luggage to some obscure part of the terminal to meet them. The driver was rude and drove a old, messy, smelly beat-up van, and made up some bogus $8 charge at the end of the ride due to our luggage. I'm a big supporter of local businesses, but this was worse then any Uber or Lyft experience. Management needs to clean-up their act and get rid of these drivers or they'll be out of business quickly. There's only so much the State government will do to protect them from competition that provides better services at a lower price. read more

It's really not that hard to remember the number for the cab if you grew up in the islands and understand that tutu is grandmother in Hawaiian and you might be calling a cab for tutu..Anyway, they offer a decent cab experience at a reasonable cost in the islands. If you happen to be an unlucky Hawaii resident without their vehicle or perhaps can't find a friend to take you to the airport, catching The Cab offers a decent alternative. While, I haven't used them frequently, I can say they have a pretty good reliability record of arriving within the time frame the operators said and about 20% of time leaving infuriated. The cabs are generally clean and comfortable, however it is up to the individual cab operator at the end of the day to adhere to the standards the Cab had set. However, I have always found them to be pretty pleasant and enjoyable. They definitely offer a good alternative should the need arise. read more

One of the things I love about living in the city is being able to cab it to various places. The Cab has been prompt about 75% of the time when called, but the other 25% it can be a total FAIL. Like the time I was headed to a wedding in Waikiki and the cab never. showed. up. I had to jump in my car last minute, pay $$$ at the Royal Hawaiian, and because I'd been waiting for my cab, I was embarrassingly late. On busy weekends or holidays, expect a 60+ minute wait. The best thing you can do is make friends with a couple of cabbies who seem cool and get their direct lines. I have a few numbers for when I need to bypass the queue system and get someone to pick me up with the quickness. Tip them extremely well and you can have a cab pick you up on Halloween in under 15 minutes from the Chinatown brouhaha. read more

I have used The Cab a couple of times know. The main reason is that the phone number is so easy to remember! HAHAHA... That aside, I have always found them to be reliable! They arrive on time, their drivers are courteous and professional...and my last trip, the driver, Tony, really hooked it up! I was making a trip from PC to Mililani. Normally a $36 trip. I was expecting the very same this trip. To my surprise, Tony found a fare from Mililani taking him to Waikiki. He turns and asks if I would consider a flat rate fare as he had the luck of a great long haul return trip! Sure!!! Why not??? for $25, I got my trip to Mililani and he got his fare to Waikiki! I tipped him the difference and asked for his card. Great guy. Offered to come back and send me home if I needed it! I definitely like these guys. I'd like to report the reckless driving and taunting of your drivers. License plate SVY 407, white Honda Van, his cab sticker number was Z 0375. On 8/4/17 While leaving the airport on the ramp to get in to the H1, a single lane, this taxi was behind us, then crept on the shoulder lane, then over took us on a single lane on ramp, then after over taking us causing us to break from being startled from him cutting in front so quickly, he then stuck his hand out and taunted us. He then cut over the double solid line and cut through 2lanes. Is this is how your drivers behave, reckless, unsafe and harassing other drivers. Worst cab service ever. I would give this company -5 stars, but that's not an option. I had a cab scheduled to pick up my father to be dropped off at HALE KOA by 4pm. At 330pm, my father calls and said no one is here. I called the company and asked to speak to a manager to see what happened. Turns out, the driver finished his shift and didn't let anyone know. I asked to speak to a manager, and after a few drop calls, finally spoke to someone. Turns out they would only provide a discount that wouldn't make much of a difference to the total. Now my father is late to an event that's very important to our family and all the supervisor says that we are gonna still charge you at a minimum discount. FYI, this would've been a trip well worth the price for the driver as far as tip is concerned. This trip should be free. DO NOT USE THE CAB if you want to get to your destination on time. The dispatcher never told the driver where I would be waiting. I clearly shared that the pickup was inside the Park no structure, as the Kapiolani doors to Amuse were locked & inaccessible at night. I am a student and had a lot of fun the night before. The cab ride was fine and driver was helpful. Unfortunately I lost my wallet in the cab and I called a few hours later and they told me that i had to wait until Monday when their lost and found office opens. Like seriously, WTF?!?! My id, bank cards and things are lost and that's the excuse you give me? Called again and they said, talk to our supervisor, 10 minutes in hold and they hung up on me. It really depends on what part of the island you are on to get quick service. Living in town the wait is never more than I'd say 10 minutes. My mom lives in WAHIAWA and she has sat for hours at Foodland waiting for them to come get her. Sadly, she made a pick up time reservation the day before. They still made her sit almost 1 1/2 hours they were late. She is 80 and WAHIAWA is not the safest at night. I was disappointed. This has happened more than once to her. Let's talk driving. There is good and bad in everything in life. I've had good rides and..... I've had rides where I honestly was scared for my life. HONEST! My suggestion: Set aside a cab or two in WAHIAWA area for seniors who have to shop. There is senior housing there and they need better service. Also, please ask all your drivers to drive safely. They pretty much always have rude drivers and I'm never surprised but today I was absolutely astonished at the terrible customer service from my driver. I take the cab about three times a week due to not having a convenient bus route near my house that goes near my job. The only reason I call the cab is because they have so many taxis which leads to less wait. If I have extra time I always call eco an or get an uber. Let me start by saying that I never have issues with their dispatch, always super friendly, quick and helpful. Today I was on a time crunch and was happy to hear there was someone 5 minutes away. The woman asked how I would be paying and I replied credit card, which she said was fine. It was a short ride because I was not at home and actually only about a 5minute drive to work. I was picked up by a grumpy looking man who 1) did not say hello when I got in 2)did not say hello when I initiated a greeting As he scowled throughout the drive, I let him know the address and that it was only a short ways away. He began huffing and puffing probably wishing he had picked up someone who would make him more money. When we pulled up I handed him my card and he replied "don't you have cash?!" I said no and let him know that I had told dispatch I would pay card. He again got upset and started muttering under his breath. He started to say his card reader was broken and then gave up and took the card. He looked at me and stated the price, to which I said ok and he swiped (I later realized this was him "asking" for a tip) but I assumed I could add to the receipt. When I received the receipt and there was no tip line I asked if there was a way to add on (although honestly he didn't earn a tip with his rude service) He then SNATCHED the receipt and pen out of my hands and THREW them on his dashboard in anger and thrust my copy and card back at my (I basically had to catch it). I said "wow, ok." And got out, not having the time to tell him off. I don't know if he understands that this is his job and he gets paid to show some customer service but you can't expect a tip for shirty service like that. read more

If you're reading this review, you're curious about the taxis that serve Honolulu and the rest of Oahu. Do yourself the following instead: 1. Most ideal transportation solution is to RENT A CAR. You'll be paying to park your car if you stay in a hotel, but having a car is simply much less of a hassle to get around Oahu. Sadly No1DP and I didn't come to this conclusion until several cab rides later. 2. Research about shuttles that take people to the various tourist sites around Oahu. They'll usually designate specific hotels for pickup at specific sites and are generally at least half the cost of the cost of the taxi fare IF not more. 3. Use Uber. The uberX fare is also half the cost of the taxi. Unfortunately there is no black car service. 4. If you absolutely have to use a taxi, download the Uber app anyway. Use uberTaxi to find a taxi instead of using a taxi circling around the hotels. At least tip is included in the fare and with the app GPS you'll know exactly where you're going so that you won't be ripped off. Chances are that if you consider yourself a traveller you'll experience at least one "taxi ride from hell". I may have had indifferent drivers before this trip but at least they didn't gouge their prices.The following review will describe my first "taxi ride from hell" experience taking place on 6/13/2016. No1DP and I wanted to go to the Battleship Missouri. Although I visited the battleship on a previous trip with my family my dad is former military and we were able to drive inside the base with a rental car. This is most emphatically *not* the typical experience and the No1DP and I learned there are shuttles that go to the Pearl Harbor sites. The hotel concierge said not to bother as the taxi could get the two of us there more cheaply than a shuttle. It looks like theCab is the predominant taxi company that drives people to and from the Waikiki hotels. We thought that the driver was nice as we greeted him but this was unfortunately the only nicety about this trip. - Driver spoke very limited English. We could barely understand his thick accent. - He insisted that he knew the way and would not listen to our suggestions. Kept on saying "excuse me" a bunch of times. - MISSED THE EXIT THAT WOULD'VE BEEN THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE. It turns out that we actually took the back road, which added an additional $30 to the fare. - Freeway speed on H-1 was 55mph. He was going no faster than 50. - He missed the actual entry point to the visitor's center. We ended up having to make a U-turn, which involved entering and immediately exiting Ford Island base because he didn't have proper credentials. - Taxi fare ended up being over $100 from the Royal Hawaiian. The return fare was cheaper than $50 when No1DP used uberTaxi and this was taking into consideration the 1.2x surge pricing. In contrast the Honolulu taxi estimator was $62.64 and uberX range is from $18-$24. In retrospect when the No1DP and I talked to another taxi driver he wondered how this guy could pass the taxi exam because one of the criteria is to take the passenger to the destination using the most direct route. Just by explaining our situation the other taxi driver said he was probably faking his ignorance and was involved in intentional price gouging just because we're tourists and don't know any better. This doesn't help improve taxi driver-passenger relations and only contributes to the negative reputation of taxi drivers in general. The No1DP and I are proponents of Uber and because of this experience we'll be sticking to Ubers on subsequent trips to Oahu. I leave this review with one more tip: A reasonable fare from Waikiki to the airport will cost you between $30 and $40. The fastest route will involve H-1 or if there's traffic on the freeway the driver will be using Ala Moana Blvd. If the taxi costs you more than $50 you're being ripped off! read more

We called a taxi that pick us up at the villa in Honolulu. The company is named The Cab and driver is 422. We ask for a van because we were a total of 7 passengers including an infant with a seat. When the driver came, we realise that the cab had only 6 places. The cab driver said it was ok even though I did think it was not safe. The driver was bad at driving from the start. We told him that we were late and our bus tour was leaving in 6 minutes. He suddenly start shaking and panicking. We told him to relax and he stopped right in the middle of the Highway. He got out and tried to grab the infant seat. He wanted everybody out the car right on the highway. He called the cops on us and lock us in for 20 minutes. He then finally park and we got out safely without getting hit by speeding cars. We called the company as we missed out the Bus Tour. They send another cab which was very nice. We ask that they pay for it and they refused even though we had to spend $160 USD to get where the bus tour was. They deny it all even though we have 3 video of their crazy. This company is not good don't take them. They also rip you off! Support Uber and Lyft. More secure and reliable and way cheaper than theses rip off! read more

Yes its a 5 star company! I dont speak for everyone who catches cabs but i catch/ride the cab 5+ times a week. Im not rich or anything , just a normal person who likes to sleep in as long as I possibly can. Sometimes I would miss my bus so i would call. There are a few disbatch operators I can name. Christy, Vanessa, Aunty Mary, Aunty Lily, and Dorian. They are very friendly and if you call enough times they joke around with you. Sometimes its These ladies that start off my day. They start me off with a smile. I live Kapolei area and know to call AT least 30mins-45mins especially on sunday. Pearl ridge area has more drivers as well as town. And he's gas happy, break happy and likes to cut in between cars! And he takes the longest way to our destination, and don't follow directions, I think a cab driver should know his/her way around! Shady and uncomfortable. The first time I took the cab, my husband, mom, and I landed in HNL and called a cab to take us to our hotel and requested someone who could get on Ford Island. We were moving here and we had 9 bags with us. The cab never showed and then called me 11 times. eleven times. ELEVEN TIMES. Asking where I was. I told him I had hot pink luggage, he couldn't miss us... and he was so hard to understand I just hung up. We took a shuttle to our car rental place and they called a cab for us. Our driver was really nice but acted like he didn't know how to get to Pearl Harbor. Yea. Ok. LOL Fast forward. Husband and I are going home to WI for new year's so we call a cab to pick us up at home at 5:15 p.m. The driver shows up at 5:05 and calls me twice telling me he's there. Seriously, we said 5:15... but he was nice and we rushed out the door and he helped us with our bags and was polite... until we got to the airport and my husband hands him his card. He also took the randomest side streets to get us to the airport. We live DIRECTLY BEHIND NIMITZ. The woman on the phone asked if we were paying in cash or credit and I told her credit. The man says, "I would be a very happy man if you paid me in cash." My husband had this shocked look on his face, and was like, "We told you we were paying in credit..." The driver says, "You don't have any cash on you at all?!" The guy gets in and runs our card and then rushes off, but not before telling my husband that he doesn't get his tip until next week if we pay with a card. WTF. Are we supposed to give a rip? Then when we got back to HI a week later, I called for a cab to pick us up who told us to go to Baggage G and cross the street 2 times. WTF. Ok... I told you exactly what baggage we were at, I shouldn't have to run around the damn airport to convenience you. We stood there waiting and waiting. Cabs came for people who arrived after us. Each cab I had to go up to and ask if they were ours. One guy says, "No but I'll take you" and then a girl comes up and discovers the cab was hers, so we said no problem and she says, "No, please, let's share we're going to the same place!" and the cab driver practically crapped a brick saying NO NO NO NO SHARING. Finally ours shows up. I said right away, "They told you we were paying in credit, right?" and he agitatedly said yes. I had to give him directions to my house, and he was mumbling the whole way, like he was on a bluetooth but I didn't see one. It was so uncomfortable that I almost asked him to drop me off a block away just so I could get out earlier. We live 1.9 miles from the airport, it cost us 18 dollars plus tip. The Cab drivers driving around when you're driving your POV are pricks. They swerve into you, ride bumpers so you can't change lanes in front of them, cut you off, go slower than molasses or are riding YOUR bumper. The drivers make you uncomfortable. An email I sent to the company about their dangerous driver... To whom it may concern, I just encountered one of your taxi drivers that thought it was ok to swerve in and out of our lane for no reason at all. He/she went back and forth into our lane 3 or 4 times in a short distance from the valet parking/box office area of the blaisedell to the corner of that same street where the cab proceeded to turn right. This could have caused serious injury if he/she had lost control of that cab and it had hit someone innocent or if the driver had a passenger in there with him/her. It seemed as if this driver was "playing games" or upset that he had to slow down and wasn't able to change lanes in front of us to go around the little bit of traffic at that parking lot. I have attached a video to show the swerving. This happened at approximately 7:55pm on July 17, 2016 with the license plate SCD 876. This behavior from your driver concerns me if not for the safety, well being, and integrity of your company and driver then for the innocent people that could be affected by this behavior. I called The Cab to schedule a ride to the airport for the following morning because it advertises on its website that it offers a "kamaaina fare to/from the airport." When I called, I asked about the kamaaina rate and scheduled to be picked up at 6:30 a.m. at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The dispatcher told me the rate would be $15 and confirmed the pick up. The following morning, I was running early so I called The Cab and asked if the driver could pick me up at 6:10 a.m. instead. The dispatcher said that they were having trouble finding a driver with military access so my pick up would be as scheduled at 6:30 a.m. At 6:50 a.m., I called The Cab to find out where my driver was. The dispatcher said they still couldn't find a driver with military access and also told me I should have been told when I scheduled the pick up that the kamaaina fare was "only if available basis." I told the dispatcher I wasn't given that information and then asked why would I schedule a ride to the airport on an "only if available basis"? So I went on my Uber app and saw a driver was within 5 minutes of my location. I scheduled Uber and called The Cab to cancel my pick up. The only reason why I thought to use The Cab was because I could schedule it the day before (since it was an early morning pick up) and because of the kamaaina fare. The Uber ride cost me $11.70, way less than the kamaaina fare advertised on its website. The website doesn't have any information about "only if available basis" either. Worst cab experience I've ever had. Cab number 185.... Went to pay with my credit card and then the driver started screaming at me that she was trying to give me a fair rate and I should've said that I needed to pay with credit card. I told her it says you can pay with credit card right on your dashboard and I don't know what your problem is and she continued to scream at me that she was trying to give me the fair rate, eventually she had to call corporate office to get them to manually process my credit card, and after that was done we proceeded to exchange profanities back-and-forth for the next few minutes where she flipped me off and told me to go f*ck myself. If the drivers want to be shady and keep the money for themselves they should tell the customer in advance so we can opt to decline said service. I'll stick to Uber or Lyft from now on. read more

Yesterday, I took a cab called The Cab to and from Queens Medical Center for some important cancer therapy. The Cab was prearranged as part of my trip from Hawaii Island. The first cab was one of many coming to the lot near the West end of the Hawaiian Terminal. Some drivers would get out of the cab and call people's names. The older lady driver one cab just sat there and did not call out names as my written instructions said they would. Several people walked over and the driver waved them off. So I got up and walked over the cab and asked who are you waiting for. She tried to say my name but because of her very poor English, I could not understand a word. To make it worse she had her radio blaring. Frustrated I should her some paper work and she said something to the effect, yes I am the right person. I said I am sorry I cannot hear or understand you. To that she said like, you cannot understand me I do not drive you and just went off of me. I did my best to calm her down and told her I am now late for a very important medical appointment. I was at the medical office for about 5 hours and then called The Cab again. Like the last time, I had to hold for 10 minutes or more. When the cab arrived, again the driver did not call my cell or my name. I walked over and he said you riiiichard. You mean Richard, yes he said. We began our drive to the airport. Once I settled in I look up and he has a smartphone attached to the center of the steering wheel and he is watching Christmas music videos. All this on the very busy and crazy H1 freeway. I was livid. These drivers could care less about the customers and this is due to the failure of management, to screen and train. Be smart and avoid THE CAB. MILITARY WARNING! We were flying from Oahu to the Big Island. We called The Cab taxi service to take us to the airport. We obviously gave the dispatcher our address and made it noted that we are on the Air Force Base. The dispatcher said they would get someone out to us soon. 20 minutes...30 minutes....45 minutes....an HOUR later, my husband calls back to the dispatcher. (By now we are getting a little a nervous) and that is when the dispatcher notifies us that they are having problems finding a driver who is able to get onto the Air Force Base. An hour after calling for a ride, and they couldn't even find a driver, let alone have one on the way. So, we of course told them not to bother, and had to inconvenience a husbands co worker at 5 AM. Taxi cab driver 438 stopped on busy keaaumoku street in the far right lane. I honked my horn to signal for him to move and he still wouldn't. I got of my car and told him "sorry you can't stop here you're blocking traffic." He told me "f*ck you, the bus stops here all the time." I told him "you're not driving a bus and there's a no parking sign right there." I pulled up beside him when he finally drove away and he started cursing at me and sticking middle finger. I tried calling the cab company to file a complaint but got an answering machine instead. I left a contact number and they still have not responded. I used to receive great customer service from The Cab but in the last year, service has plummeted to nonexistent. Yes, not all of The Cab drivers are bad people but majority of them are. My boyfriend, our friends and I always use The Cab on nights we go out and get inebriated. We've had many bad experiences and have chosen to just brush it off but after this past Saturday, we will no longer do business with this company. Here are the two worst occasions we've experienced in the past year: 1. November 1st, 2014 We all know how frustrating it is to get in and out of Waikiki on Halloween. A white couple was lucky enough to flag down a cab on Kuhio and were nice enough to share the cab ride with two other guys, my boyfriend and I. The 4 were heading to Tripler while we were heading to an apartment near Moanalua High School. The driver then pointed to my boyfriend and said his VAN would not be able to accommodate him and that he had to get another cab. My boyfriend is black, the 4 were white and I'm Asian. The white couple realized what the driver was hinting at and refused his services. My boyfriend and I decided to walk towards the zoo in hopes that we would get a better chance of getting a cab there. The operator managed to dispatch a driver to pick us up across the street from the Prince Kuhio hotel. We were at a convenience store buying food and the dispatched driver refused to drive the extra block to pick us up there. When my boyfriend told him we'll walk back towards the Prince Kuhio, the driver decided to leave and pick up another customer because we were taking too long. Tired and frustrated, my boyfriend calls the company and complains. 5 minutes later, the driver calls and starts yelling expletives at my boyfriend for complaining about him. 2. October 10th, 2015 My boyfriend calls to schedule a pick up at a location we were unfamiliar with. A few minutes later, a cab comes to pick us up and we were under the assumption that it was the cab the operator had sent. About 5 minutes into our cab ride, our dispatched cab calls my boyfriend. Not knowing it was our dispatched driver and thinking the person calling had the wrong number, my boyfriend ignored the call. The cab driver then proceeds to call 3 more times. On his 4th call, my boyfriend finally answers and politely tells him we did not call his number. On his 5th call, the cab driver, who is now angry at this point, leaves a voicemail calling my boyfriend a f***er numerous times and can be heard asking a bystander "Hey f***er, did you call a cab?" I've emailed a formal complaint to the company and have included a recording of the voicemail and phone number of the driver. After reading the other reviews, I guess we won't even be receiving an apology. I do not know how this company is still operating. It's filled with racist, rude and unprofessional employees. But what can you expect from a company that lacks management and disciplinary actions. Yelp should add a negative star rating. read more

Wow. That had to be the worst cabbie ever. We had 6 bags, 4 people, one dog crate and a dog - which we told them. The cabbie that came was annoyed that he had to move his things to put the back seat down. Then he just sat there and watched as my husband put everything in himself. Didn't lift a finger. Never smiled. Nothing. We then only had 3 available seats and our son had to sit on the floor. Then we struggled to close the van doors. No help. Then he barked at me to put my seatbelt on. Not one other word. Then he dropped us off by grabbing one bag by one handle. It was the worst. Not sure we've ever experienced that before. That guy needs to find a new occupation. read more
