I called for a jump start, a service they offer for $20. The dispatcher seemed confused, didn't know they offered them and asked how many people it was for. I repeated "jump start." They charge $20 for this. When the driver showed up, he didn't know it was for a jump start. He them changed the price to $30 because his car had a weak battery and it takes so long to jump start a car. He also had the shortest jumper cables I've ever seen and had to turn his car around on a one way street. I guess I was paying a premium price to cover the driver being woefully unprepared for the job I called him for. My car started in about two seconds. I knew it would, I had just left the lights on. Finally the driver called me and was at Pearl Harbor South Ave???? I called again and another was dispatched you wouldn't think the wait time in Kaka'ako would be so terrible but I had to call asking whee my ride was. Finally he arrives and I tell him I'm not upset with him at all or all the trouble so far. As we start our ride I explain about my hill and ask if he minds taking me up. He claims he does not mind and I thank him and explain that I'll show him how to turn around. Reasons The Cab is Good: 1) They have a very efficient calling system. Their automated message to let you know that your Cab has arrived is so much more convenient than just standing around outside. I can leave my house, when I know they've arrived. 2) My bf recently using The Cab told me how you can Text to The Cab the address where you need to get picked up instead of calling and that The Cab also has an App now. 3) It's the largest Cab company on the island, so you'll find them at a lot of places at your convenience. Reasons The Cab is Not so Good: 1) Inconsistency- Some days you'll get a really good driver, and some days it'll be a really bad one. A lot of The Cab drivers are old school drivers- like don't believe in GPS, pulls out the map to try and find somewhere. If it's one thing I don't like it's a cab driver who doesn't know their way around. 2) I find The Cab drivers try to cheat you a lot more. Taking the long way, pretending they know the way to get there, but in actuality they have no idea, whoops I forgot that turn.., etc. I can't stand that.. 3) They take a lot longer than other company's, when they're the largest cab company on the island- which makes no sense to me. 4222222, you're more technology savy but to me you're still not the best. read more

Fares are more expensive than Charley's. Starting rate is 3.10 versus Charley's 2.20. Just that makes me want to call Charley's next time. I only used The Cab once because it was raining and I didn't want to walk and there was a line of "The Cab" drivers waiting outside the building. It was a simple ride of 0.3 miles involving 2 turns on major streets (Keeaumoku to Kapiolani to Atkinson), but somehow my driver managed to get me into Waikiki on Ala Moana Blvd. He was talking a lot and a cheerful guy, and he apologized for not only missing the destination but taking me a few blocks in a random direction, but he left me feeling like maybe he "talks past his destination" all the time and then the nice customer feels obligated to pay the full charge even if he says it's ok, it's ok. Maybe it's just me and my overpolite self overanalyzing the situation. Anyway, they're more expensive than Charley's and they made one boo-boo, so I won't be calling them if I need to order a cab. read more

I never write reviews online but people need to stop using The Cab. You will definitely have a bad experience, it's just a matter of how bad will your experience be. I was a repeat customer of The Cab and suffered through the abuse of their driver's and their unsafe driving habits for approximately 3 years. I stopped using them once I discovered Uber. Over the course of 3 years, though, I've taken over 200 rides with them. The chances that you will get a professional driver, who isn't trying to scam you, is very low. About 2 out of 10 drivers will treat you like you are a Customer. The other 8 drivers will treat you poorly and are looking for something to take from you. I wish that I was embellishing about this but I'm not. I've had driver's make "pit stops" in the middle of nowhere, leave the vehicle for about 10 minutes, and then return with what I believed was a prostitute. I was then dropped off about a mile away from my destination and told to pay him now and walk the rest of the way. I've had driver's who I suspected were high on meth-- super hyper while swerving through traffic and almost hitting another car. I've also had a driver fall asleep on the wheel and I've had to wake him up so that we don't crash and die. I've had a driver place my groceries in the trunk of his vehicle and then drive off with my groceries, leaving me still at the grocery store and never returning. I've had driver's accuse me of not paying him... When I just got in his car and he hasn't taken me anywhere yet. I've had driver's scream and swear through traffic and then at my drop-off, demand a 20.00 tip. When I tell him that he's rude and I wont tip him, he says "f*ck you!" and then speeds off. I've witnessed a driver of The Cab pull a gun on a person for, what I believe, was non-payment-- or maybe he just didn't like his Customer and wanted to scare him. I've had driver's go to wrong pick-up points and blame me for it. I've waited for hours for a cab while being told by their dispatch that a driver is on the way. I've had driver's who spoke very little English and some who couldn't speak English at all. After all of this, I stopped using The Cab and used Uber exclusively for the past year. NOW. Today, Uber told me that my ride would arrive in 15 minutes, but there was a line of The Cab vehicles right in front of me. I figured, it's just a short ride, what's the worse that could happen. I walked up to the driver and ask him if he is able to accept credit cards. He says "yeah". I ask him if he could take me to my location. He says nothing, just stares at me. After a moment of confusion for me, he screams at me, "OPEN THE DOOR YOURSELF!" I reason with myself that this will be a short 6 minute ride and that I should just deal with this rude driver. When we arrive at my destination, I give him my card to swipe. Like a psycho, the driver then locks all the doors and says to me: "Cash only". I tell him that I asked him before I got in his vehicle if he accepted credit cards and he said it was okay. I hand him my card, he swipes it on a little machine next to his seat. "Declined", he said. He then takes off with me in his vehicle. "Where are you taking me!" I tell the driver. He doesn't say anything. "Take me to the 7-11 and I'll get cash!", I tell the driver. He takes a sharp turn and stops in front of the nearest gas station. I go into the store and buy a soda with the same card he said was declined. Charge was approved with no problems. I go outside and show him the receipt and tell him the card is perfectly fine. He then speeds off without saying a word, leaving me stranded at the gas station. I checked my credit card account online and there was a charge for The Cab. He lied, it went through. I'm not sure if I was almost kidnapped or what. I walked home in the rain and decided to write this review. Be safe, don't ride with this company. Ever. read more

Horrible! At standstill traffic on Kam Hwy in Aiea. Driver had the red light and once it turned green he proceeded to speed up to my car where he was 3 feet away. I couldn't get an uber in aina haina, so I called The cab. Operator couldn't hear my street name, and I think got offended when I asked if she wanted me to spell it. Only because I repeated it 3 times and I thought it would be easier, not to be rude. She said a cab was on my way. 40 minutes later no cab, so I ordered one via app. The driver took the freeway versus the cheaper, quicker route in morning traffic making what was a $10 uber ride $33?!!! And this guy was thirsty for a tip. As soon as he stopped (after passing my house with a working Gps and me saying "stop here" without listening while running the meter which increased my bill) he wanted to know how I was tipping. Today I had the BEST TheCab driver EVER! Her name was Deborah Buono and she was fantastic! She was personable and shared great stories about Honolulu and her growing up years. I was traveling with my mother and both ladies are similarly aged so they connected, too, particularly since my mother was born and raised on O'ahu, too. It was a quick ride out to the airport but Deborah did a great job of making us feel comfortable and was really friendly and kind for the duration of our ride. When I asked the cab driver if he did oil card he replied by asking me if I didn't have cash. I thought his question was a bit intrusive so I just asked him again if he took care payments. He hesitated and then begrudgingly said "..well then the company takes 10%." I felt that it was a bit selfish of him to expect me to accommodate for his employers. When it was time to make the payment he took my card and asked me how much I wanted to tip him. I let him know 20%, which I felt was generous enough off a $9.85 tab. Ha then rounded up to $12 and ran the card for that amount. It thought it weird that the printed receipt wouldn't have a section to add the tip personally but I obliged. When I was given the receipt to sign I saw that there was a section to personally add a tip on top of what he had included in the base charge. This driver was taking advantage of his passenger and when he saw me taken a picture of the signed receipt he got visibly upset and insisted that I take my receipt copy instead. Due to the downpour this afternoon, I called The Cab for a lift home. I was told that it may take about 20 minutes due to traffic. I understood that, so it was not a problem. I waited for 1 hour and called them back. I was told that the driver already reported the pickup was made. I told the lady that I was standing for 1 hour and saw no taxis pass by. On my original call, I provided the address and business. Just where did the driver make the pickup? Do they just pick up anyone that flags them on the street? They need to refine their protocol. I told the lady that I was going to contact another service and hung up. I ended up walking home instead. I may have ticked off the other service when I called them back to cancel. By then, the rain had lessened. Oh, well. Such is life. read more

Hate to add on to the negativity. My experience with their operator and customer service office was great. But the cab driver himself F*CK HIM! I used this cab service a few times in the past. And I haven't had an issue. Although I know that they could've took a shorter way to get to my destination on one occasion (I'm local so I'm aware) , but I didn't mind the cruise. I asked politely if this cab for "Brandy" (easy name for me to give). NO ANSWER. Instead he asked "where are you going" in a rude tone. I gave the location (which honestly was like a 5 minute drive, I just didn't want to wait for the bus) and asked again if this cab was for me. No response. Since I gotten in the car, cab driver was shaking his head the whole time and again asked where he needed to go. Pressed hardly on his meter button like he didn't even want to f*cken drive me. HE COULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING BECAUSE I WOULDVE BEEN OKAY TAKING MY MONEY ELSE WHERE. in total he asked 3 times where he needed to go, mind you, this literally was a 5 minute drive. The whole time, he seemed upset, unhappy, BS attitude and not pleasant to be around. Obviously, NO TIP was given. I immediately called their number to make a complaint. Although the lady I made the complaint to was nice, I doubt anything got done. Took the bus home, because my destination was busy and I would come back later. After getting off the bus, I see the same guy driving around and pissed me off more. LAST TIME I WILL USE THIS SERVICE FOR TAXI NEEDS. He needs to be fired! read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would but unfortunately 1 is the lowest I can go. Let me first say that "The Cab" does not have an up-to-date list of their vehicles/drivers operating for them. I called to request information on a cab that caused an accident and fled the accident scene, and they had to call me back because the vehicle assigned to the cab # and vehicle information I provided did not match. Taxi #212 a silver/white Toyota Sienna license plate NGP150 made a u-turn in front of me from opposing traffic cutting into my lane and causing me to crash my motorcycle in effort to avoid smacking into the back of his minivan. He then sped off not even bothering to check if I was still alive. Luckily the driver of the vehicle behind me stopped in time not to run me over. He along with the pastor of a near-by church helped pick me up and removed my bike from the road. Another lady by-stander was nice enough to call 911 and waited with me for them to arrive. The taxi driver came back 45 mins, and parked at a near-by street watching from INSIDE his taxi. The by-stander who called 911 recognized him and pointed him out to the police,in which case they asked me to come over and positively identify him. I have 3 witnesses who saw him cut in front of me and wrote statements to the police. But when I called "The Cab" to inform them of the dangerous taxi #212, driver's statement to them is that I crashed on my own and I was trying to blame it on him. WOW.. BEWARE!!! "The Cab" hires independent contractors so they have no liability even if they hire reckless inconsiderate dangerous drivers who runs people off the road. If this company is irresponsible enough to hire drivers like taxi #212, I wouldn't be surprised if you get into an accident while riding one of their cabs. Good luck getting to your destination stress-free, more so in one piece! read more

Other times, they turn down the street too early and I have to walk the rest of the way home because my street is one way. Waited OVER an hour for one yesterday. My experience was just fine. My car rental return was before the shop opened, so they wouldn't provide a ride to the airport. I called The Cab an hour before I needed to be picked up and the cabbie and I arrived within a couple of minutes of each other. One really fantastic feature, and I wasn't even expecting this, they texted me a notification when they dispatched the cab. That helped me to gauge how quickly I had to drive to get to the rental place. The cabbie was good. Polite. He had the windows down in lieu of air conditioning, which was fine for a Sunday morning at 7:30. That said, I would have asked him to roll up the windows and crank the AC if it had been hot out. The car was a bit warm, but I'm also a bit weather wuss. He drove safely and expediently and the fare for the one-mile trip to the airport was only $9. Were I to nitpick, I'd note that the van's trunk was not cleared for luggage and the cabbie had to rearrange it before I put my things in. While he re-arranged it, I carried my bags over from the rental car. He did help me unload my things, but not the heavy items. That actually didn't bother me, though, as my items were either very heavy (and I say that as a fairly strong guy) or filled with sensitive camera gear, so I'd prefer other people not manhandle those bags. He also took my AMEX without a question (though I noticed that the meter kept running from when he stopped until when he ran the card. It was all of 40 cents and that's no enough for me to bother making a fuss about.) The cabbie was professional, courteous, and prompt. And that's what I want in a cab ride. His English was VERY poor, though we managed to communicate effectively. Ranking every cab ride I've ever taken, in the top 15%. That ad's infectious jingle, however, is stuck in my head. Also, I didn't call because of the ad but because The Cab was the first Google result. The ad (some cabbie dude singing in an, I hope, garishly fake accent with three more copies of him as old ladies singing in the back of the cab) didn't hurt and was probably the best local business ad I saw in my five days here. read more

I only call this cab company cause their number is easy to remember (thank u frank delima!!) But their service wasn't bad at first. ..BUT I tried using my credit card to pay and even told the operator that I would be using my card but when I took out my card the driver looks at me with disgust and tells me that if I use a card he wouldn't get his tip cause the company keeps their tips from credit card users (uhhhh not my problem..but I went and got cash for him). THEN a couple days ago I call for a cab and the operator rushed me thru my call and even repeated a cell phone number that was not mine. I waited 15 mins...nothing...when I called to let them know I was waiting for 15mins the VERY RUDE operator tells me...oh it hasn't been 15 mins and the driver said you were a no show. ..even though I called while standing outside of my place!! Then she tells me I'll just send another cab...no apology no thank u for waiting. Then I get a call and the driver says...I'm here! And I said no ur not I'm standing in the front of my bldg and he says....oh ur in the front..I'm in the back...WHY WOULD U GO TO THE BACK OF THE BLDG WHEN I GAVE THE ADDRESS OF MY BLDG WHICH IS IN THE FRONT!??! and may I add. ..I always tell the operator which side of the bldg I'm standing at!! So I get in and get to my destination and another driver calls me and says I'm here. ...which means the driver that picked me up was the first driver and the stupid rude operator lied when she said the driver came and left cause I was a no show. When I called to speak to a supervisor they transferred me to customer service which was a voicemail msg and noone has called me back.....I'm calling another company that deserves my $$!! The cab...u lost a customer who tips ur drivers VERY well...all because ur operators need more training on how to speak to customers and handle different situations when it comes up! You are in a business where u rely on OUR $$ to stay in business!! And based on what all the drivers who have picked me up say...you are not in a position to be rude with any of your customers!!! I've taken The Cab multiple times and every single time I had an awful experience. Most of the time, they thought I was a tourist because I am Caucasian. I would give them an address that wasn't too far from the pick up location and they would pretend like they didn't know where the street was (it was a major street, Keeaumoku by Ala Moana, and they have GPS). I literally had to argue 3 different times with them and try to explain to them where the street is located. I eventually got out of the cab and waited for the next cab just for it to happen again! They didn't want to do a smaller fair. They prey on tourist and only want the bigger fares. Once I was able to find a driver to take me home, on two different occasions, the driver complained the entire time about how he always get the "Shitty fares". Also, they complained when I wanted to use a credit card. I always carry a little bit of cash and would pay for my fare and would ask for change back. Every time they would say they don't have change... They tried to steal my cash for a tip they did not deserve. I do not recommend this cab company at all. I haven't used them since Uber was introduced into the islands and will consider walking before I give The Cab another try. read more

That's probably the only thing in this world that will give me horrible anxiety. Today's driver a.k.a 996 was AWESOME. He was so sweet, funny, and genuine during the car ride and as I reached my destination. I wish I knew his name, but they only refer to the driver by their cab number? I called the office and spoke to a lady and she was also so very helpful and sweet. When I had called her to ask for my drivers name she asked me if there was a complaint that I needed to file. Arranged the Cab earlier in the day, and the driver was late for our pickup. He called because he was lost. I gave him very exact directions and he made it to the house. On the way to our location (during rush hour) he asked which way we wanted to go. We had never been to where we were going, so we let him make the decision. Yeah...worst choice ever. He took us through Chinatown, full of stoplights and lots of traffic. It added an extra $20 to the fare. Very disappointed. Our driver for the ride back home was much more efficient. Dispatch goes out of their way to make sure a drivers on the way to pick me up as soon as possible, and frequently the driver will call me to let me know they are 5 minutes to pick up. Normally a pretty good cab service. Tonight was rare but still irritated me. We took a cab letting her know we were going to the ER. Figured a cab ride is cheaper than an ambulance. The woman drove 10-15 miles under the freeway speed limit which is already slow on Honolulu. $35 cab ride and she had the nerve to ask for a tip. That would be a HELL NO! I can see why taxi business is slowly dying. If "The Cab" were to close its business however won't be because of uber or lyft but, because of their abusive driver so I hope when and if that day comes, please don't sully uber or lyft for your own demise. I now understand why this cab company would have such low ratings. It is atypical for someone to be compelled to leave negative reviews for a company that oversees hundreds of independently contracted employees such as "The Cab" but it seems over 200 people felt the need to warn the general public and I've never felt so strong to warn another as well. I think I've always favored "The Cab" because of my family member who's a local here and also works in international travel business. She would often use their service for her clients and I enjoy giving local businesses a fighting chance against a bigger chains but as of today we won't be using them any longer. While on a walk with my family I'd decided to buy a medium-large appliance and couldn't carry it over to our condo. Out of many cabs sitting on the curb awaiting for a customer, we decided to get on the first one to flag us down. Once we got in and told the driver of our address which was only 5 minutes away(driving time), she became enraged and complained to us that it was too close of a distance for her to drive us there. She continued to rant about how she'd been driving just "around the block" so many times today that "it's ridiculous" yet refused to let us off. She raced to our destination and continued to rant that it's unacceptable to have driven us. I don't know or care if this review gets anywhere. I'm assuming it won't as I've heard of "The Cab hag" who gripes at customers for some time but refused to believe that a business would keep such bad investment choice to keep her employment. Now that I had experienced it for myself I have just a few more things to say. As a paying patron I don't appreciate of your employee ranting. If you are to keep this practice perhaps you should have a sign to inform customers that they shouldn't catch your cab unless they live more than 5 miles away. Also, I don't believe the cab chooses the customer. I get to choose whoever I want so that being said, get your f--king employee off of the high horse and educate them on supply and demand. It's a shame because I liked my driver from yesterday and another driver from this morning but with the thought of playing Russian roulette with a chance of seeing this lady again, I think I'll just call uber/lyft from now on. I guess one might say they don't care about my reviews because they don't care about my money. As a local, I have to say that their service is very mediocre. The kind of service you can get from them varies greatly, sometimes it's exceptional, sometimes it's not. Sometimes they keep their cars in excellent shape, sometimes they don't. Their standards seem to be all over the place, but they're the most available and easy to get ahold of. A majority of the cab drivers don't speak good English and they refuse to let you pay with credit cards. Sometimes you do get excellent drivers who give you top tier service, but they're kinda far and few in between. I suggest going elsewhere. read more

My husband called them three days before our trip to Kauai to arrange transportation to the airport. They did not arrive at the time we told them they needed to pick us up. After waiting for 15 minutes, my husband called to find out where our cab was. They said they were "looking" for a cab for us. Apparently 72 hours was not enough notice for them. We decided we weren't going to risk their incompetence ruining our vacation, so my husband told them to forget it and we drove to the airport ourselves. We had already boarded the plane when we received the call that they were on our street to pick us up. Obviously if we had waiting we would have missed our flight. I guess we were luckier than other reviewers in that they ended up not having the opportunity to mistreat us, cheat us, , steal from us, insult us, or take us to the completely wrong destination. read more

Tried to use The Cab's online reservation system this afternoon. When it didn't work I called the dispatcher (808)422-2222. Yes, I still remember. I told the dispatcher that I wanted to be picked up in 15 minutes on an unpaved, hard to locate street. Within 5 minutes, I received a call on my cell from the cab driver saying he would arrive in 2 minutes. How prompt! Even before we got into the cab the driver was already cracking jokes and recommending great places for us to go. I creeped on his cabbie license so I could give him a shoutout. What's up cab driver, Andrew Lu? I was impressed at how quickly we arrived at our destination. Overall great experience and I would take The Cab again and again. read more

I continually make the mistake of using this company, which can only be attributed to the fact that by the time I'm tired/drunk enough to need a cab, their number is the easiest one to punch in. Every time I specify that I'll be paying with card, their dispatcher tells me that "all of our cabs accept credit cards." Great! But the office might want to let the cab drivers know that this is the case. I've had one driver drive off without collecting a fare (couldn't be bothered), several others insist that their card machine is broken, until I call the dispatch, whereupon it is magically fixed, and still others treat me with absolute disdain (slamming doors, throwing my card and receipt, cursing at me) when I hand them my card. Hire a different service, or hitchhike, or walk if you have to- just don't take the Cab. read more

A couple of years ago I called this company as I needed a ride to the airport. After providing my address to be picked up at, the person told me that they couldnt come because they couldnt find it on GPS. As if im too incompetent to provide directions, the operator insisted they would not pick me up. Your phone number may be easy to remember but I would rather search for another cab co. number than call you guys again! read more

This is one time my review isn't good at all. This past Fri i reserved for a cab online 1hr ahead of my pickup time just in case they were busy. I received a confirmation via email too so i figured it was all G I go to the curbside to wait an its nearly 10min late i call them only to be told that with their new system you cant make reservation online but must download their app so that they get the order. Well there is NOTHING stating this on their site so i just walked up a block an caught one of the independent cabs. They get my business read more

Their cab drivers need to learn how to use their turn signals and check their blind spot when switching lanes. I was driving home on my when a gray van license plate # PZY 682 started coming into my lane almost hitting me. I honked and hit my brakes but the driver didn't care as he brushed my side and almost caused a serious accident with me and the car in front of me. This isn't the first time I've almost been hit by one of their drivers and certainly not the first time one had cut me off. read more

This company never fails to disappoint me. They always purposely take the longest way. Drive slowly and purposely catch most of the red lights. I can't speak for all the drivers, but can for most of them..... If your a tourist or had a few drinks, they will take advantage of you. Be careful read more
