This is a very homey and cozy hostel in Leadville. It looks like a cute cabin from the outside. I…read moreloved the common area with plenty of comfortable places to sit, and the kitchen was very well stocked. I didn't really partake in the social atmosphere as I was very tired, and the people there seemed older. It is certainly not a young person party hostel. However, my friend I came with previously came a year ago and made good friends. The main issue that my friend and I felt made our stay uncomfortable was the restrooms. They don't have stall doors for the toilets. They just have a flimsy curtain that you can't secure in place, which was super awkward and made me feel on edge every time I was in there. Their showers also don't have doors, but that is more acceptable. We stayed in an 8-bed mixed dorm, and it was comfortable. I really liked how they have full-size vertical lockers with keys that you can use for storage. When we checked in, they said one of us had to be on the bottom bunk and one on the top. It worked out for us, but if there are other beds available it doesn't seem fair if both people have a preference for a bottom bunk just because you are friends. People in hostels are usually solo travelers anyways and need to share a bunk bed combo with a stranger.

This hostel is your quintessential hostel. It's actually a HUGE place, I'm impressed how many…read morepeople it can hold. It has a big kitchen, big living room, big lawn, and big den downstairs with TV/couches and a ping pong table. It's clean-ish, pretty much your standard hostel. The showers were a pleasant surprise - quite clean actually on the ladies' side so that was a huge relief! The beds were simple bunks in the room I was in, and I was top bunk. Low ceiling so I couldn't sit all the way up but I could most way; i was also right by a water pipe so I could hear water running every time someone showered etc, but I stilled crashed from exhaustion/Im a heavy-ish sleeper. The room was a bit warm; with the window open it was way too cold so it was a wee bit stuffy but again nothing too bad. I slept fine overall, it was pretty decent as far as a hostel experience goes. Overall - if you're coming in late and leaving early for like 1 night (which I was), this hostel will serve your needs fine! But it is restrictive in how much you can move around/put your stuff in shared rooms so bear that in mind. Parking also interesting -- you can park along the south-west fences surrounding the place but when I came at 9p on a sat, there were no spots. I briefly parking across the street on Alder (to the west), but the folks who own the home came out and informed me i couldn't stay but COULD park by the stop sign across the street on 7th (to the south). The hostel said it was fine too, and I parked there overnight and nothing bad happened (ie towing). Overall: this place is fine for a short stay as far as I'm concerned! But you get what you pay for.

I definitely made a good decision stepping inside on this 12 degree afternoon! Super welcoming, comfortable friendly environment and exactly what Alma needs. I have a feeling the future plans the owner has in the works will make this a destination for Alma residents and visitors! I would definitely return as an overnight guest, especially if I'm in town to ski!

Due to rising costs in Breck and the Bivvi becoming more popular with limited availability, I began to stay with Treeline Hostel when visiting Breck to snowboard. Treeline Hostel is in Alma, which is south of Breck over Hoosier Pass, accessible by the free Summit Stage Bus, so it's not necessary to rent a car if you are going to be at the resort for the day. There is a kitchen available so you aren't reliant on eating meals on restaurants every day, and if you don't have time/accessibility to visit a big box grocery, the Alma Market across the street has basics. I also enjoyed free coffee on my recent stay. The furnishings are suitable for a hostel environment and beds are basic but comfortable. Max the owner is hospitable and will chat you up to ask your opinion about the stay. He has plans and ideas to implement, it's neat to see him shape Treeline Hostel for the future. I also appreciated the free WIFI and noise machines in room, which helped me sleep at night.

Shred Life Eco Hostel…read more I'm giving Zach 5 stars. Because he's a beautiful human who cares about people. He takes his hostel seriously and is constantly working on projects and cleaning up after people. The kitchen access was wonderful, fully stocked to cook a meal. The hiker shelves were great. We found shampoo and conditioner and even some brand new razors. Laudry available on site was greatly appreciated with all the soap, oxyclean and dryer sheets that you needed. The girls bunk room was nicely made up with clean linens and fresh towels provided. Everyone was nice and respectful. We were able to leave our belongings in lockers while we slack packed. Zach even called us on trail to see if we were okay after it had gotten dark.  If you're looking for something pristine, this isn't the place for you. It's 420 bachelor pad that has creatively been turned into a hostel and room rentals. Perfect for the trail weary traveler or snowboarder who needs a hot shower, clean clothes and a safe place to lay their head.

When we packed up around 11am we tried to find someone to let know but everyone was passed out, including someone in a car in the driveway. Maybe this is the vibe for someone and maybe the private room is a better bet... we really just didn't appreciate people coming into our "all lady" bunk room at 4am/our roommate actively using when our only goal was to get a little extra sleep. If you want to spend money to be around folks on drugs then this is the place for you! Wouldn't recommend. Maybe we were just there on a bad day. But dang... it was pretty bad.
