The Buff. A well known Boulder breakfast and brunch restaurant. Fast. My gosh. My entree of Leahy's Benedict came out before my mimosa or dirty chai latte. Well I had to send my eggs Benny back. The rye toast was so stale that I had to ask for a steak knife. But even with the steak knife I was having no better luck. I had to apply so much force to the knife that the table shook and my mimosa spilt all over my shoes. :( The remake of the eggs Benny was perfect though. The toast is now soft. It may be from the same loaf and just steamed "fresh", but that's ok and normal practice. Or it may have been from a fresh loaf, hard to tell. The waitress at first was miffed that I returned the meal, but seemed ok when she received a positive response after asking how the remake was. The eggs and the corned beef hash are very well prepared. The potatoes were great too. There's lots of food here and for a good price. I see other reviews stating that it's expensive here. For someone that travels as much as I do, no, it's not at all. In fact it's slightly cheaper than I was expecting. I would order here again. The mimosas and bloody marys are just $1 but limited to 3, as stated on the menu. It was your average mimosa. Nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about neither. The dirty (added espresso) chai latte was almost perfection. The temp could have been hotter, but the strong ginger of the Bhakti chai really makes it shine. The perfect start to a morning. This was the highlight of the meal, but this item was over priced at $5.25. Now the 2 new items that I will be regularly reviewing. Restrooms and WiFi. The wifi is password protected. Ask for the password. The speed and ping are great. Partly because of being password protected. See attached screenshot. The restroom wasn't clean though. I'm not going to dock a star, but it does need to be really improved. Clearly I can't give 5 stars when I had to ask for a remake, sadly, because if it came out the first time like it came out the second time, they would have their 5 stars. Arrived after 7a on Sunday morning and got seated right away. Ordered Saddlebags with bacon and Corned Beef Hash Benedict. Both good but not amazing. Saddlebags were good but i think I prefer my bacon on the side. The hollandaise sauce on the Benny was good but it was swimming in oil. We ordered a free bloody mary thanks to the yelp check in offerer. It was spicy and tasty but not much booze. The waiter was not very good. When ordering he mentioned maple syrup came with the Saddlebags but failed to mention the additional cost. He also charged us for the bloody Mary but he took that off once I mentioned it to him. Great place for a bountiful breakfast in a friendly atmosphere. If the weather is working in your favor, sit outside and overlook the Flatirons. I had the Med Omlette packed with artichoke hearts, fresh basil and feta cheese. Tips for The Buff: 1. Do not go during peak brunch time. 2. Do not go during peak brunch time ESPECIALLY on the day of or after a football game. 3. Do not go during peak brunch time. I think it is a fact of Boulder life: there will always be a wait at The Buff and it'll be one big mess. Luckily, they've provided a small sitting area outside, so if the weather is nice, the wait is more bearable. I think the real key is to go to The Buff before everyone else does. I know, reaaaal wise words here. What I'm saying is: go to The Buff before all of the college students go... so maybe try it out at 7am the day after home football game. The 0.99 Bloody Mary and Mimosas are small but also kind of awesome. We ordered the Lemon Pecan Pancake (was decently good) and the Ole Skillet con queso. I don't recommend the queso unless you only want to taste potatoes and cheese - I was sad to not really have tasted the Pork Green Chili. Otherwise, the service was great and everything else bueno. What a classic establishment in Boulder. It's been a few years, but coming back, they redid the inside and renovated the whole place, so it looks a nice. FOOD: Some of the classics are to die for here. Any of the benedicts, saddlebags, or the southwestern kick* part of the menu are pretty great. I will say that for brunch prices, this place is reasonably priced for what they give you. You've also got your drink options where you can opt for that wonderful Bloody Mary to get your day off onto the right foot. SERVICE: Attentive and nice as people in Colorado tend to! This may be one of my favorite brunches in town. I always order the Harvest Hash and add chorizo (per my first server's recommendation,) and it's consistently flavorful, filling, and I always have leftovers. Although last time, the potato to vegetable ratio was WAY off and there were more broccoli stems than actual tops. Does anyone actually like that part of the broccoli?! Also, $1 Mimosas and Bloody Mary's! Y'ALL. Cheapest place in town to get drunk, I promise you. But they do limit you to a certain number of drinks, for good reason, so don't come in here expecting to get sloppy at 1pm. That being said, this place is FULL of college students (naturally,) so it can be pretty fun to people watch and get a reality check on your increasing age when you're in here.
