I would come Back here and give the pizza another try. But I did not have a good experience with the crusts of the pizza and bread sticks this time around. I didn't think to get a picture before throwing it away but the bottoms of both were burst to a crisp. It was quit sad especially loving pizza so much and seeking it out when I try new places to eat. Nothing is more disappointing then craving pizza pregnant and having a bad experience with the flavors. However The gentleman whom served me was kind enough to refund my whole order even though I said the bread sticks were tolerable. I still ate some of those. He didn't charge me. Because The Block is on the Grey Street! The location is off the beaten path. Close, yet not your downtown Petaluma area. It's in central Petaluma, on the other side of the river, on the somewhat industrial outskirts. The Block is a very nice site, quite spacious and airy place, inside and outside. It features variety of communal type wooden tables, as well as several smaller ones of a taller kind, and a very nice tented wooden terrace area, boarding Zimi Wood-fired pizza. Will write a separate review on that pizza! This was on a sunny warm Sunday in January. Right away ordered a pint of Same As It Never Was IPA 6.7%ABV from Pond Farm in San Rafael. Very refreshing IPA. And a Pineapple Margarita. I looked up this place and someone suggested to ask the bartender. He worked on my drink with much seriousness reflected in his gaze. My phone was low on juice, as I sipped on my beer and a cocktail. Having finished the pizza, decided to ask for another cocktail, with Grand Marnier. Left the ingredients to the imagination of the maker, that's why I called it a Mystery cocktail in my photo caption. Overall relaxing beer garden ambience and a comfortable place for a group of friends to patronize. Tables kept cleaned and neat at all times. Friendly staff. Leashed and well behaved dogs are always welcome! Our four legged companions multiply happiness and elevate the mood, love their presence! Love this place. Drive up from the East Bay on various weekends to visit The Block. The staff here is very great and welcoming. It definitely gets busy here later in the day. Their house pizza is delicious. Many of different option's available as well as calzones and salads. I always have a great time here, very fun and welcoming environment. Came here for lunch with the hubs. We shared a tri-tip sandwich from the tri-tip trolley (or Tips?). It was SO freaking delicious. I was a little sad because their FB page said The Fig Rig would be there that day and it was not. The beer selection was plentiful and this pregnant lady was happy they offered Italian sodas (only two choices though). We sat out at a picnic table right when they opened so it was pretty quiet but it was filling up by the time we were leaving. I'm so happy they allow dogs because we love bringing our lab every where with us. I'll definitely be back in the future. This is a nice chill place to hangout. read more

Other trucks pull up to The Block to feed hungry diners with a wide and rotating variety of food. There are super clean permanent restrooms there with real plumbing! Rather than write up about individual trucks, I wanted to write about what an amazing place The Block is, and Petaluma as a Northbay gem! The Block is located in downtown Petaluma, close to tons of shops and restaurants. The Block is a great place to hang out and eat and listen to music, then a 5-10 minute walk away are tons of shops from books to clothes to antiques to thrift shops! Then come back and eat and drink again! There are lots of tables with market umbrellas, and since Petaluma can get a bit chilly, there are fireplace tables and heating towers abound. Petaluma is a historic riverfront city and its fun to see how The Block was nestled into a combination of historical buildings and new modern buildings. This place was cool. They had great beers and an awesome atmosphere. This is a chill place and the music is low enough you can still here people you came with talking. I loved that it was outdoors and my kids had a great time as well. They played in the kids area, it only had a basketball court but I always have my kids bring their own toys. I wish they had more games for the family and kids activities though (blocks, cards, etc..). I have a 4 year old and a 10 year old, they both said they would come again with me. The only disappointment was the food trucks were not here today but the pizza was still good. Everyone seemed to be friendly and I will be back when I'm in the area. read more

Less than a year ago, Petaluma was crying out for more beer gardens. Now, we have two great options (The Block and Brewsters), in addition to a tried and true favorite (Taps). The Block is awesome. Perfect casual place to meet friends for beers, bring the kids to play in a super-dusty "sand" area, grab some tasty food from the area's best food trucks. I love that there's a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, as well as kid-focused and adult-focused spaces. As a huge El Roy's fan, I'd rather come here to get my shrimp tostada fix than try to fit the whole family in their restaurant during lunch rush. The pizza place is also top notch. Can't wait to try Fig Rig. Vast beer selection. I'd love to see a few more cocktails on offer, but it's unapologetically a beer garden so I can't really complain. I was slightly disappointed with the vegan options. It's hot or miss with what food trucks might offer. But the pizza place here, that seems permanently here, made up a vegan pizza for us. And we were quite happy with our vegan pizza and beer! There's plenty of space and seating here, inside bar area and out! Great place for families and I know they hold events here too! Following some food trucks that frequent here and keeping an eye out for vegan specials! I know one has offered the impossible burger in the past! We would have stayed longer, but it's kind of a playground for school-aged children. The beer was good, the small fire pits were nice, and the vibe was cool, but... there were 10÷ school-aged children playing tag and running amok while we were there. I wish people wouldn't unleash their feral children in places like this. I like kids, not a problem, but it's just rude and inconsiderate... also unsafe. If I owned this establishment... it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. You shouldn't have to dodge children with a pizza in your hand or have kids running around open flame. read more

Ok, drinks, but worst service you'll ever receive. There are literally 3 people walking around talking about how busy it is. Took 15 minutes for anyone to even take our order but heard them talking about how "so crazy it's so busy." Asked someone to tab out and he said "ya, one minute" ordered an Uber and then found out that in fact you had to wait in a line to tab out because they're so mediocre they have 1 POS machine. Missed my Uber because they're not just too cheap to have one machine but dishonest to tell me they are taking care of me. Save yourself some time and hate and go somewhere else. I only heard about The Block for the first time about a week ago. I went there not really knowing what it was or what to expect. When I got there I was pleasantly surprised to find another full-on beer garden in Petaluma! The space is large with a covered seating area that was warm and cozy, despite the storm raging on outside. There was live music playing with no cover charge, the bar staff were friendly and quick, and there was a good variety of food trucks parked outside. Beer prices were on the high side of average. The only reason The Block isn't getting 5 stars is because I wasn't super impressed with the beer selection. read more

Fourth time is a charm. It's taken a while but we were finally able to eat at the Block. We tried a few times when they first opened (before they added a bunch more tables) and were not able to find an open place to sit to eat so went elsewhere. Then they added more tables but it was still full up. Another time we found some available seats inside under cover but it was so loud in there - I'M TALKING SCREAM AT EACH OTHER TO HOLD A CONVERSATION LOUD - and there were so many flies that we just couldn't do it. So we left again. We are nothing if not persistent and tried again this weekend. You guessed it - nowhere to sit - so we were about to leave when someone actually got up and left so we snagged their seats in a flash and ordered ourselves a pizza. We got the pear and prosciutto pizza with goat cheese instead of gorgonzola and we added some fresh greens. I think I enjoyed it more than Marty - he said he really didn't taste the pear or the prosciutto. I didn't find that to be the case. They have a large beer selection and take note that they do currently have a $1 off a 16oz drink offer for a Yelp check-in. Yay! Food trucks rotate and the pizza is a permanent fixture. They have a truck schedule on their website. Now we just need to find the time when they aren't so busy so we can get a seat. It will be interesting to see what happens once the rainy season hits (DID I MENTION THE INSIDE AREA IS LOUD?) We walk from home but it appears they may have some parking issues. They had signs posted all over - I'm talking plastered all over - to NOT park in the Auto Zone lot next door unless you want to have your car towed. Fire pits, tons of seating, bingo nights, bomb cocktails, live music, yummy bartenders for whichever way you swing, and best of all is the concept they've come up with for bar food! Neat spot with lots of outdoor seating and a very cool concept. Essentially, you come here for the taproom or the pizzas they make on sight, and the other food options are available are whatever food trucks happen to be scheduled and show up that day. It's kind of the same concept you'd find at a brewery with no kitchen or a small menu, but with an almost completely outdoor concept and lots of room for folks. What brought this particular visit to my attention was the live music, and I have to say that the spot doesn't seem to be that accommodating for a full band or larger group. There's not a huge area that's adequate for a full band set up and with the venue being nearly entirely outdoors, there's not much space to get away from it if you're planning on chatting and hanging out either. A separate patio for music would be a great fix for this. If not, I kind of get the vibe that this is a better venue for singer/songwriter or duo rather than a full band. Beer selection is fairly solid and bartenders are nice. They can get pretty packed on a busy night, but I found them to be accommodating and the lines definitely moved fast. Downside: only two restrooms available for a venue that can fit at least 100 comfortably. An additional bathroom section is a must. Making sure it's stocked (it wasn't) is also pretty important. I haven't tried the food they have on sight so I can't comment. In terms of beer selection and staff, I'd give it a 5. The rest needs a little work, logistically. Two unstocked bathrooms (with lines) in a pretty crowded and loud patio didn't work on my visit, though. read more

After parking, I got out of the car and as though in a trance was drawn by the live music playing in the air. Loud,foot stomping and hip swaying, the music of The Budrows had people hooping and hollering with gleeful excitement! First stop made at the tiny food truck produced the most amazing sweet and spicey tender finger licking good. Across from there is a the intoxicating smell of pizza dough on a grill! My favorite way for pizza to be done. Firetrail pizza. My favorite are the bread sticks with the sauce. Full of flavor and perfect chew. Wow I was super impressed when I checked out The Block for some afterwork drinks on a Friday late afternoon. This place is very hip and welcoming with a variety of food trucks serving oyesters to artisan pizza to tacos. They have a beer garden with a cool outdoor seating area as well. The Block itself if pretty spacious although I didn't like the fruitflies flying around within the beer garden. The bathroom inside the beer garden is pretty clean, which is a nice change from other nasty bar bathrooms. I've heard parking here is a headache since some people park in restricted areas and end up getting their car towed. I parked across the street at the Grocery Outlet although friends told me that The Block has it's own parking lot now if you just drive to the end of the alleyway. I tried El Roy's tacos, which were always the bomb.com. I also got to sample some of the oyesters and pizza here. I ended up drinking one of the pear ciders and it's pretty good. The beer garden also offers pitchers for bigger groups as well. This place is such a cool area to hang out after work with great food selections and drinks! read more

Has stepped it up a bunch. More tables, more seating, heaters all over the place for that cool summer fog that rolls in at nite and it did. Gas fire pits for more comfort. Big bandstand for you guessed it bands. They still have the large indoor tented area where brew & cocktails are served. Line was a bit long. We managed to catch a cool rockabilly band playing, 3 musicians that sounded more like a 5 piece band. My friend ordered tacos at Jackie Boys BBQ, I noticed they had a nicely shredded slaw on each one. They must have been good cause he didn't offer me a bite. I loved the outdoor pizza oven but heard someone else is manning it. It looked like their oven is more mobile not like the built in one from before. The gal at the counter was super friendly and the pizza maker too. So happy to have The Block in Petaluma! My family and I along with some friends attending the soft openings. We went to the first soft opening and enjoyed it so much, came back the second night. The El Roy's truck never disappoints. Some favorites are: Tacos Dorados, Shrimp Tacos or tostada, and El Pastor Taco. Love their hot sauce! The Fig Rig has Dirty Fries that are a MUST try (Fries, Kimchi, & Pork Belly). The Block staff were very helpful and attentive. They were great at keeping on top of refills as needed and also keeping the tables clean. This place is very family friendly and has a small play area in the back for the kids. Had a damn good time hanging out at The Block! The bar and patio setup provide great spacing for all groups. Heaters and fires to stay warm no matter the forecast. Love the beer selection in addition to the full bar! Food trucks offer a diverse menu so everyone can order what they want. I spent time at the bar and the staff really make this spot a go-to in my opinion. Forest was pouring drinks, talking through the beers, and the full team established a fun and friendly vibe.
