I've been visiting El Roy's since they first opened in Petaluma. I'm sad they closed the restaurant but the food trucks are great, too! They can get really busy but orders come out quickly. There is no seating at the food trucks and many folks eat on the curb or take the food to eat in their car (which is what I usually do). I've recently become a big fan of the El Roy's taco combo. It comes with two tacos, rice, and beans. I love their rice and beans. The tacos come with a perfect serving of chicken. The chicken is just a little dry, but the salsa covers it up. Speaking of salsa, I really enjoy their red salsa! But they've become stingy with it if you ask for more. I wish that wasn't the case! After driving by them a couple times, we decided to stop for an early dinner. We got tacos and gorditas. Both were very reasonably priced and were stuffed with fresh ingredients. Solid Mexican food made with a smile and love. We recently visited their food truck at the Petaluma Fairgrounds. Ordered chicken quesadillas and tacos dorados with carne asada, plus two Mexican Cokes. They gave us a buzzer and our wait wasn't too long. Then we paid when we collected our food. There's plenty of parking at the Fairgrounds, but no formal seating. Some people sit on the curb and eat. We took ours to go. I ended up eating half of my quesadilla cold/out of the fridge the next day. Although I prefer the food warm and fresh, it was still yummy and satisfying the next day! We waited for a very long time since it was such a long queue. I saw some ppl are smart enough to wait inside their cars since El Roy's gives you a pager. The food comes in very large portion. Thankfully a friend from the area recommended El Roy's and I was thankful he did as it was some of the best food of my entire trip. They have two truck locations in Petaluma (I ate at both). The truck is bright orange and easy to find. They had a steady stream of orders for pickup, many customers just ate in the parking lot like me. I got a loaded burrito and loved everything about it - filled with quality produce, great cuts of steak, and salsas. I asked to try some of everything, which they happily provided. I won't say it's the best Mexican food ever, but I will say it's solid. Lengua and seafood options are a big plus, and I think for the portions the prices are pretty reasonable. Service is pretty fast despite the line. Horchata always hits the spot as well. My go-to is always this truck at the Fairgrounds, but there's also another one up the street near the SMART station. Had a few things to do in the Sonoma Petaluma area today. Hunger arose and the friend I was with in this day trip excursion suggested we go to El Roy's for some much needed lunch. Well to our surprise and temporary disappointment the brick and mortar shop was closed but this Taco Truck was readily available. I really wanted a burrito but Al Pastor tacos own my heart so I decided to order both since we had quite a long drive back and I could snack on the burrito midway home. I apologize in advance for not getting pics of any of the food, but I INHALED it. The Al Pastor was some of the best flavored I have ever eaten. I was sad when it was over but then o opened up my burrito to taste (even though I was ready to explode) and I was immediately happy again. The place was pretty busy. My family and I came and ordered two chicken burritos, tacos and aguas frescas from a worker named Mireya. Not only did she give us the wrong agua fresca (jamaica) when we ordered horchata, but she was super aggressive when handing over the drinks and straw. Later on when we got the burritos we realized they had given us the wrong meat (asada) in one of the burritos instead of chicken. We kindly explained this and she proceeded to blame the kitchen which I am doubting is the cause for this. She did not apologize once by the way. I had only been to the brick and mortar location on Edith St, which I see is now closed. I couldn't find it on here when I was looking for directions so that explains it. I asked the girl at the truck if it the brick and mortar had closed and she seemed to have no idea what I was talking about so maybe it closed a while ago? I do miss having actual chairs and tables to sit in along with the chips and salsa bar. Oh well, anyway, that's neither here nor there. Chips and salsa bar aside, this El Roy still delivered on the goods. Ordered the carne asada tacos dorados and they were so tasty. The best part is that they put refried beans and cheese at the bottom of the tacos (cheese pull!). I was starving so I completely inhaled them. I like how they have fish tacos and their tres tacos entree, is served up with crunchy taco shells, to my surprise, instead of the usual soft shell tacos. I wished that the fish tacos had more fried batter taste to it as well as some sort of verde, crema sauce topped onto it. It lacked umph for me. Taco special includes the beans and rice. Carne asada and Al Pastor meat tacos, were spot on. However, it wasn't juicy enough for me nor did they provide the side grilled onions and jalapeños to make it scrumptious. I like how they have the pickled condiments, though, one has to ask for it instead of being tossed into the bag. It hits the spot, but I've had better tacos from a taco truck. read more

Stopped here on the way home from Santa Rosa. There was a line of about 10 people Sunday evening. I tried the tacos dorado (crunchy) with beef, shrimp tacos and tacos Al pastor. All were pretty good but my favorite were the dorado. The orange salsa is very good and not too spicy. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of the other menu items and meats. read more

I used to think that TexMex was not my jam. So I avoided going to Elroy's given that I thought it was Tex max. But I'm here to say... I've had a paradigm shift! My friend invited me to the new Elroy's location in Santa Rosa and we both had the hard shell tacos ... I had chorizo, pollo asada and carne asada. Which were all fabulous. I have since been to the taco truck in Petaluma by the fairgrounds twice and it was just as good. In the past, I've been a burrito person, but now I am hooked on these lovely tacos. And... Do you want to know their secret menu? Ask for shrimp sauce on your taco... In your burrito... On the side... With whatever you order! It levels up everything! There's no shrimp in the sauce... Because ewww... but seriously, it's fabulous! I'm glad that this business is growing, and it's no surprise because they food is delicious , it's served very quick, the salsas are fresh and flavorful (not too spicy ) and you always get service with a smile. If I had one recommendation, maybe it would be to put up a couple picnic tables at the Petaluma location for people to sit... But it seems like most people get it to go and that's the accepted norm . El Roy's is hard to miss. They setup shop at different locations, but I was able to try the one on Washington Street in front of Craftsman Floor Coverings. Across from Taco Bell! Definitely one of the best taco trucks I've tried! No doubt! Tried the carne asada, carnitas, and camarones tacos. So good! Added a large Agua de Jamaica and I was set. The turnaround was fairly quick. I waited approximately 5 minutes. One of my regular stops going forward. read more

I've been wanting to try el Roy's for a while. It's amazing how fast this chain is growing. I'm on a diet lately and tracking macros so I went for the regular chicken burrito to keep it as macro friendly as possible. All of the ingredients were a cut above standard Mexican fare. The chicken was high quality, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The beans were great. Flavor overall was excellent and while not massive, I was satisfied/not hungry after I ate it. My fiancé and I were looking for something to eat and I came across this place on Yelp. We went and were both happy that we did. He had a shrimp burrito and I had shrimp tacos. Food was great. Shrimp were cooked to perfection, not overcooked. The tortillas were tender to the point where I believe they make them themselves. We called the order in as opposed to waiting in line at the truck. We reside in the Eastbay and he said he'd be willing to take a drive to Petaluma just for the purpose of going to this place. We'll be back! read more

I stayed at the CG base in Petaluma and I heard that this was the "go-to" joint in the area for Mexican food. It did not disappoint as I have been here for Mexican food over 10 times in the span of 8 weeks. I've tried their carnitas shrimp, and asada tacos, asada super burrito, and asada torta. All so very delicious. I would suggest their taco special as it comes with two tacos of your choice, rice and beans. The rice and beans were good and flavorful on its own that I could scarf them alone. The super burrito is an excellent meal on its own. The difference between the regular and super is guacamole and sour cream. The torta is also a nice change up as it has all the fixings and kept me full. I'd come back in a heart beat if I was ever in the area. Convenient and delicious. read more
