My family and I recently decided to give Don Pancho's another try after not visiting for several years. I had honestly forgotten why I stopped coming, but after this visit, I was quickly reminded. The service was actually very good. The staff was attentive, friendly, and checked on us throughout our meal, so I have no complaints there. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. The rice was cold, the beans were also cold and lacked flavor, and the tortillas weren't heated properly--they were stiff and tasted undercooked, which made the tacos even worse. I ordered the tacos de asada, and the meat was full of gristle. It was chopped so finely that it resembled ground beef rather than steak, and it had very little flavor. The chips were also rancid, which was another major letdown. I had ordered a steak burrito to go, but after tasting the food, I canceled it immediately. Looking over the bill, I noticed it would have cost about $20 for a "super" steak burrito, plus an additional upcharge just because it was steak. That pricing seemed excessive, especially considering the quality of the food we were served. Overall, while the service was great, the food was some of the worst Mexican food I've had in a long time. I quickly remembered why I hadn't been back in years, and unfortunately, this visit confirmed that I won't be returning. Don't recommend eating here. read more

Looking around for local Mexican food and this place caught our eye with the muy macho burrito (no, we didn't try it). Ordered the veggie burrito and had them make it a vegan wet burrito. Massive size and delicious. The servers were very friendly and attentive, and eager to make sure our meal was the way we wanted it. The food tasted so fresh and delicious, and the presentation was delightfully beautiful! The owners and their children, who served us, immediately greeted and welcomed me, warmly as a new customer and warmly welcomed back my friend, who's a regular! I was impressed with their warmth and hospitality and felt very comfortable there. The owner was so gracious to treat us to a dessert of sopapias! I actually love their family's restaurant in Santa Rosa, Taqueria on Montecito Blvd. and am a regular there since it's very near my home! That is one of the best Mexican restaurants I know of! I'm amazed by the deco inside with the festive music and lots of piñata related things around. It's just fun to look at while eating. Skinny margaritas has lots of fresh lime juice. If you can't tell from the picture, let me emphasize that it's a huge glass. I can't finish it but I love it! The shrimp dish I ordered was fresh and not greasy. I ordered the Caldo de Res. It's $17.99 and had one sliced carrot, one slice of zucchini, rice, and the meat was all gristle and hard to chew. I pointed it out to the waiter and the owner and they just said that's the way they make it. It's family-owned and operated and the wait staff truly make you feel at home, starting with chips and yummy bean dip served shortly after you're seated. The owner Maria works so very hard to keep customers happy at this quaint and delicious Mexican restaurant. There are fun piñatas hanging from the ceiling that my two year old son loves to look at. Fresh hot chips come to our table accompanied by warmed refried beans and salsa. My son can eat an entire shredded chicken enchilada while I love the grilled chicken taco salad. My husband loves mixing it up with different combo plates. We all love this restaurant and my step-daughter says it's her favorite! read more

I finally made it in to Don Pancho's. Friends have recommended it to me & I wanted to order my favorite combo plate, chile rellenoes & cheese mole enchiladas. The restaurant is traditionally decorated and the vibe was cheerful & cozy. The rellenoes were delicious as were the enchiladas. I might ask them not to put as much cheese on top next time but I still enjoyed it. The salsas were well seasoned meaning if you are sensitive to salt, some of the salsas might be an issue for you. I liked them, I am a chef so I don't mind salt. The chips were good and so was the salsa verde they served alongside them. I had horchata which was standard & tasty & I ordered flan for dessert. I believe they used a custard mix which is not my favorite but it was plated beautifully with the option of whipped cream & chocolate sauce. I had mine plain & ended up taking it togo since the portions served were quite hearty. The service was excellent & I was cheerfully greeted as soon as I walked in the door. With a plethora of good Mexican Restaurants around, I was a bit skeptical trying a new place. El Roy's brick and mortar restaurant is tops, but I tend to take out, as I do at What a Chicken. The Mi Pueblo restaurants are great for eating in, some with outdoor seating. So after walking by many times to get dessert at Fruita, we gave Don Pancho a try. Warmly greeted when we entered. Both TV's had sports on. Tortas were big and good. Chile rellenos were delicious. Still a bit crispy while covered in sauce. I wish they served Machacas on their breakfast menu. My favorite. This is my family's go-to Mexican restaurant in Petaluma for both takeout and dine-in Mexican food. The food is always delicious, the portion sizes are generous, and the service is always amazing. Takeout orders are always ready fast and the food is always fresh. We've dined in with another family including 2 toddlers and all the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The wait staff were especially sweet with our kids. My favorite order is the carnitas fajitas... I've ordered other dishes that I liked, but I always go back to this. I'm not sure why El Roy's gets the most attention in Petaluma. I finally tried Don Pancho's and find it to be the best Mexican food in Petaluma. We had the Camarones Rancheros, a pollo tamale, al pastor street taco, carnitas street taco and flan. Everything was excellent, but I thought the al pastor was the standout item. Chips with salsa and refried beans were also great. We sat outside but still received exceptional attentive service from the family that owns the restaurant. We'll be back. read more

My daughter wanted birria tacos so we chose this place. It was our first time. We don't live in Petaluma but we were going to go bowling down the street. They have several small tables set up outside (covered) for dining. They also having indoor dining now. The weather was perfect so we ate outside (2 pm). We were greeted very quickly by Yasmine (sp?). Chips and salsa were quickly delivered to our table as we decided what to order. You can use the QR code on the table to pull up the menu online or they will provide a hard-copy. I ordered a pastor (my favorite taco meat) and a carnitas taco (ala carte). My daughter ordered the birria tacos with beans and rice. My daughter's friend ordered the enchiladas with green sauce. We all enjoyed our meals. I had a couple of bites of the birria taco, which was very good. I didn't try the enchiladas but I could tell that they were well enjoyed. My initial instinct was to give this place 4 stars, but upgraded to 5 stars because of our server Yasmine. She is one of the most pleasant, polite and helpful servers I've ever encountered. If anyone was meant to be a server, she was. We will be back so that I can try something else from the very large menu. They also have beer and margaritas. Note: Yasmine deserves a raise. read more

Food wasn't very tasteful at all. I ordered a carne asada burrito and it had really no flavor it was plain and it was supposed to be a super burrito. My husband ordered a shrimp cocktail and it arrived at our table warm rather than cold. I would give this place a 2 star because the service was excellent, food not so much! read more
