When someone asks me, "Where's a great place to get tacos?" El Roy's will always be the first place that comes to mind. They have swept away and taken suit as one of the most top notch taco places in Sonoma County. I am so glad they took over this location. The drive through is so fast and convenient. They also have a salsa bar with warm chips. Their taco trucks do not have chips. So I go out of my way to stop at this location for the salsa bar. Because they have chips, they have nachos. Which the taco trucks do not have nachos. The service is unbeatably fast. The staff is always kind. I recommend getting the grilled jalapeños and grilled onions on the side. read more

Look I love el Roy's as much as the other person. This location, not so much. This review is specific to drive thru and the bad customer service experience I had. I asked for a gordita de pollo, 2 tacos and a asada taco with nothing on it. The person doing drive thru had an attitude and you could hear them talking in the background. She kept getting my order wrong and I ended up having to repeat myself 2-3 times. On the third time she proceeded to let me know that she needed me to speak up or get closer cause she couldn't hear me. And she raised her voice when she said anything else? I was ready to ask for manager once I hit the window but of course she didn't show her face in the actual window, she had some other guy take payment, and quite frankly I couldn't understand much of what he was saying either. I debated whether to tell him to cancel the whole order, but then decided that this is my last time supporting this establishment. I actually worked drive thru once upon a time, and as long as the speaker is working you CAN hear the person on the other side. The fact that you can't hear them is probably because you're distracted or there is issues with the speaker. When I did drive thru our boss used to remind us constantly to be nice to customers especially drive thru since they're just trying to get in and out. ALSO fun fact if the speaker is having issues you let the customer know instead of being rude. Disappointment is an understatement, but frankly, I'm not surprised el Roy's has over the years consistently had mediocre customer service and lately it's just getting worst. One of my favorite places to go for lunch! Today, I got two Mexi dogs, as I was wanting a cheaper option than I had on Sunday at Oracle Park. I went through the drive thru and the person taking orders was so nice and patient while I read off my coworkers' difficult orders. For $7 I was completely satisfied with two fully loaded hots dogs with grilled jalapeños and onions. The condiments gave a nice tangy flavor and creaminess from the mayonnaise. The bun was toasted and fluffy on the inside, giving nice contrast. I think I'll be making some more of these later in the week. read more

Great burrito that stood up literally on its own which is a sign of a solid hearty burrito! It had a good size to it for sure which ai appreciate, I liked their salsa too. I think this place is definitely good but not amazing or anything out of the ordinary. They do not have chips at the food truck for some reason. I absolutely love this restaurant. Well, I love they have a drive-through. I normally go to their trucks, and I gotta say they are absolutely consistent from one to the other. I always get the shrimp tacos Dorado, and they are the best. The shrimp is cooked perfectly. They put a little bit of refried beans in there so the shrimp stay in place, and also a lot of good cotija cheese on top. My absolute favorite, they used to give you four tacos, now you get three, which is fine by me cause I can't eat that many. I usually split it up and have at least one or two the next day. By the way, if you have an air fryer, the next day, I put it in the air fryer for just a few minutes, I think like a minute or more, and they were back to crunchy shells, and even the shrimp didn't get overcooked. Service is always on point, very fast, and it's on my way home from work, so it's perfection. I can't say too much about the ambiance because I never eat inside. I think you can at this restaurant, but with the drive-through, I snag them and take them home. I usually share it with either my son or my husband, and sometimes by myself, It's the best shrimp tacos in Sonoma County. I'm quite positive, if you like shrimp tacos, this is the place. Listen... if you like good Mexican food, this is your sign to go check out El Roy's. I've been coming here now for about 2 years and it just doesn't get old. When that day comes and I have to move away from Sonoma County, I might need counseling/therapy. It's like breaking up with the perfect woman. I gotta preface this by saying I'm from Richmond, CA and grew up eating a lot of traditional Mexican food, El Roy's does not disappoint and now they have an indoor restaurant and they service alcohol?! Everyone there is friendly and I've met Roy personally in the past, great guy. I've had the Mexi-Dogs, the Gordita, the burritos, the tacos but my favorite??? THE TACOS DORADOS. Make sure you ask for shrimp sauce on the chicken one *Chef's Kiss*. I've probably eaten here more times than I'd like to admit and I've been to a few other great Mexican restaurants in the Sonoma county area but this one takes first place in my humble opinion. If there isn't a line, park, and speed walk right in there before the crowd of who knows this is a great place get in line! It is a small place but it offers a chill clean dine in area with fast and friendly service! There is a drive thru window but I personally suggest going inside to take advantage of their free all you can eat warm, perfectly salted tortilla chips (there's a charge for the drive thru orders! No bueno) and salsa bar with different salsas with different heat levels and taste! SO GOOD! A place with a selection of really good salsas is always a plus for me because you can enhance a taco or burrito to your own like! The orange and 2 green salsas hit! I wanted to take some home hahaha I really enjoyed the shrimp taco which had a flavorful creama sauce and the fish taco which had fresh pico de gallo on it! The chorizo taco was not great since for me it lacked flavor and tasted dry. I love this place! I used to drive all the way to Petaluma, so I'm so happy they're now located in Santa Rosa. Their al pastor is amazing and I usually get the al pastor burrito and a fish taco, and they never disappoint. Highly recommend dining at the restaurant rather than the food truck, since you get chips with your meal and access to the salsa bar. The restaurant is clean with an open, modern design, and the customer service is excellent. Everyone was friendly and happy to help with anything we needed. Will definitely be coming back! read more

He finishes ringing me up (short chunky long haired Latino... needs customer service training, fyi) and I go to pack my salsas and I'm like where are the containers so I ask the girl behind the counter and she says oh it's right there:.. this fool places the items on the counter, watches me walk away and says nothing about it!! I come here for lunch and they're good. I love their salsas and have ordered some to go in the 5oz containers. The only issue I have with them is that the 3 times I've ordered salsa to go, they always charge a different amount. First time was $1.50, second time I went a week later and they tried to charge $2.50 but honored the $1.50 price I told them about. Then I went last week and the male cashier was charging me $3.00 each. I asked if it went up and he said it's always been $3.00 and I mentioned how the last two times it wasn't but that it was fine. Just asking to make sure. I don't appreciate him insisting it's been $3.00 when I know for a fact it hasn't been. They need to put a price on the cup like they do the 8oz container so all the cashiers know the price. read more

We did the drive-thru, and I had the best bean, cheese, and rice burrito that I have had in a long time. This was true comfort food! I think even the flour tortilla was made in-house because it had such flaky texture and tasted like flour (no leaving sticky steamed goo on my teeth). It was the perfect size, the perfect moisture (no dry rice spilling out), and the perfect melty mix of ingredients. $8 a piece. 11:30AM on a weekday and no line yet. Note: no salsa without asking. It was so comforting and took me back to my childhood. I suspect that this ostensibly vegetarian burrito may have some broth or lard in there somewhere, but shhh I will drive all the way up to Santa Rosa and wait in whatever line for this. read more

We tried El Roy's Express Mex on south Santa Rosa Ave in SR. We had the meat taco special and a "wet" carnitas super burrito (new) and some Negra Modelo beer. They have a nice salsa bar with their (free) chips. The burrito came out on a nice large, hot plate and they offered cold mugs for our beer upon request. Daisy made our stay great and advised they are really busy at night. Their drive thru is open until midnight. Great food and wonderful people. Come give it a try. read more

Highly recommend! Ordered the regular carnitas burrito and a small horchata. I'm visiting from San Diego, so the price was higher than I'm used to, but the quality and quantity still make it a great value. Both items were absolutely delicious and hit the spot. The burrito must've had 2 lbs of meat in it, and that's just the "regular" size, not the big one! Great carnitas too, not too fatty, mushy, dry, or finely shredded like I've seen elsewhere. These had nice chunks and a good balance of soft with crispy bits. SO good and super filling. This easily could've been 2-3 meals for me, but I was ravenous and ate the whole thing in my car, muttering cuss words at how good it was. The horchata was delicious too. Fresh, creamy, not too sweet or cinnamony, smooth but just enough texture, and the perfect amount of ice to make it cold without cheating the customer. (I stg some places give you so much ice that you only get 1 slurp of a drink.) One of the best horchatas I've had in a while. My only "complaint" was a lack of salsa or fresh cilantro and white onion to go with my burrito. Still great without, but I think I'm just used to them accompanying my Mexican food. I loved El Roy's Food Truck when it was located up the street not far from the new restaurant location. I had a taste for chicken tacos, so I decided to pull into the drive thru. After waiting behind the car in front of me for 15mins I decided to go park and go inside. I'm glad I did, it was lots of movement. There was access to the salsa bar with a several different salsas, tortilla chips, avocado, pickled jalapeños and carrots. Most tables were taken by customers who looked really glad to be here. Between the music, food, people and ambience this place definitely was trending. I guess everyone had been eagerly waiting for this place to open. After talking with owner, he explained they wanted to try a soft opening before a grand opening and he was glad I came. I tried the shrimp tacos dorados and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was one of the best tacos I've ever had. I added a little squeeze of lemon and took my usual first bite with no salsa, and it was so good I couldn't even bring myself to add anything else after that. That has never happened to me before. The sauce it comes with is creamy, rich, and full of flavor. Just unreal. I also had the carne asada super burrito, and somehow that was one of the best burritos I've ever had too. The burrito was perfectly layered. Every bite just worked. Then the salsas... this is where it really stood out. Usually I like one or two at most. Here I liked every single one. They're all super balanced, full of flavor, and the heat stays in your mouth without burning your throat. At the end I started tasting each one again and honestly ended up drinking them. That's how good they are. I loved the chip bar too. Being able to try all the salsas, plus the pickled jalapeños and onions, was awesome. Only downside is this place kind of ruins the closer Mexican spots for me now. I'll definitely be making the drive for El Roy's from here on out. It's just that much better. read more

Finally checked out the new El Roy's brick-and-mortar spot here in Santa Rosa! It's great to see them expand from the trucks into a proper restaurant with a drive-thru. The food is just as legit as the trucks, even if the menu feels a little more limited here. I grabbed the Al Pastor and some quesadillas, and everything was on point--super flavorful and fresh. The rice and beans were honestly great, too (sometimes those are an afterthought, but not here). Service was solid--good and fast, which is exactly what you want. The interior looks really nice; it's a solid, clean space if you want to sit down and eat. Definitely a welcome addition to the neighborhood. If you love the truck but want a drive-thru or a clean place to sit, this is the spot. read more
