Beware of scheduling an appointment. I scheduled one weeks ago and I was flying in from out of state. The day before I receive a half gargled voice mail that my appointment was cancelled. I called back and they said "actually it's still confirms for tomorrow." I show up at my appointment...no one shows up. I call and they say there was confusion/they messed up. They could offer me $125 discount for my inconvenience. $125 don't cover the uber from San Francisco to San Mateo. Terrible coordination. Worse customer service. The Black Tux is a tuxedo rental outfit that has teamed up with Nordstrom. It should be noted that this service is available at most Nordstrom locations, not just this one. (I used the one at Stanford Mall) My my, there certainly are a lot of negative reviews! All I can say is I'm glad I didn't look at Yelp before trying the service myself. I had a very good experience. The best advice I can give is: Don't select your sizes online; Go get fitted in person. An appointment can be made online for the closest Nordstrom, it is free, and it will take 30 minutes of your time. Plus you'll get to see the fabrics up close. For my fitting, I discovered I should actually be wearing a 40R jacket for the tux style I wanted, not the 42L I usually wear. The saleswoman was friendly and very professional. She noted I needed one minor sleeve alteration. A full ten days prior to my event, I received my altered tux in the mail (obviously brand new). It was in the size & midnight blue color I had ordered. They even threw in a tux shirt, though I had not rented one. It all fit like a glove; and I received several compliments at the actual event (along with my wife, who wore a stunning dress). One of the best aspects - I mailed the tux back to them, in the box it came in, and with a prepaid label. No return visits to the store were required. The only issue for me was the tight return period - My event was on a Thursday, so with a 3-day window I had to race to a Fedex location on a Sunday afternoon (before they closed). I scheduled an appointment for an in person fitting on july, 27th. Service was great, was told i would get the two suits i rented 10 days prior to my event, which is october 12. It is now october 3, and i have only received a jacket and slacks. I spent almost $500 dollars and was scammed into thinking they had a full inventory of clothes i needed. I will be taking this company to court for violating their terms and for not issuing a refund. Here is what i purchased as a rental and here is what customer support had to say. Sorry the customer support photos aren't in order. The fact that they couldn't give me an ideal date of when it will be shipped or why it couldn't be shipped as well as any accommodations. I came in to get sized for a tuxedo renta at Palo Alto Nordstrom. l and was helped by a gentleman who was still in training. He was genuine, honest, and made me feel comfortable throughout the process. His customer service was excellent, and I truly appreciated his effort. However, his trainer--whose name I unfortunately didn't catch--did not display the same level of professionalism. I noticed a lack of clear guidance and some condescending behavior toward the trainee, which made the experience a bit uncomfortable when she stepped in. There's a difference between offering a teaching moment and being unnecessarily critical, especially in front of a customer. That said, I want to give a shoutout to the gentleman for his outstanding service. He did a great job despite the circumstances. read more

I am utterly disappointed with my experience with Black Tux. DO NOT SHOP HERE! Two weeks before my friend's wedding, they sent a sand-colored jacket instead of the requested white one. It's completely unacceptable, causing unnecessary stress and frustration. Their lack of attention to detail and disregard for the importance of the occasion is appalling. Avoid at all costs unless you want your special day ruined by their incompetence. There are many suit rental places that have made their money with their "special algorithm" that makes your suit fit you without even getting measured! Normally, I am all for new technology but the one's I've tried are never good the first time and require multiple "at home try-on's" for it to get a good fit. The Black Tux (which is located in the back of the Men's department in Nordstroms) used their algorithm + the human brain to make my suit rental experience GREAT! I answered the basic body type/fit questions and when I arrived for my try on, the attendant took one look at me and chose the correct size for me....no need for adjustments! One thing of note for the in-store try on is that you will be trying on a tuxedo regardless of what you are renting, but you will get what you want! Simply put, Black Tux is the worst. They have a tiny little kiosk in the Nordstrom men's department. If you blink, you'll miss it. Despite going down to the location and getting sized (by a person that knows nothing about sizing mind you) - they successfully sent me a a tuxedo that was not properly fitted. Of course. This was consistent with ALL of the groomsmen (whom submitted their measurement online AND got measured in person at different Black Tux locations throughout New York and California. When I received my Tux, I contacted them to know the fitment was not correct. Their response: "they do not have my size in stock." So, I'm confused: I went over a month in advance, I got sized, you received the measurements and all you can tell me is you don't have my size in stock. Sorry, this is an epic fail for a company that is in the business of providing garments to people. There is no real person working in their customer service department. Everything is done via email. The person working the Black Tux location has no control over anything. After the event, they send out emails pressuring you about the return and threaten to charge a late return fee if you do not return the tux in a given time frame. Look, I realize the garment needs to be returned in a timely fashion. However, I don't need an email a few hours after the event haranguing me about it. And get this. After the event, they try to hustle you into buying the crap they sent you to wear, offering something like 50% off the "suggested retail value." The lady working at the Black Tux location was nice (I have no issues with her) - but she did not demonstrate any knowledge of a proper measuring process and was overwhelmed trying to help customers. Do yourself a huge favor. Avoid Black Tux entirely. Find a place that rents Tux's and has an actual person that knows how to properly measure you for a proper fitting. My Black Tux experience was frustrating and disappointing. I had to wear a tux that was not properly fitted and smile for pictures. Lovely. Right off the back, we let them know we are there for our appointment and the guy sighs and goes "great...". Ok.... So... we sit through this meeting and it's Litterly just the guy filling in the website they already have online. So we let him do his thing and we ask what exactly the process is. After seeing reviews about people not receiving their suits, I asked what the back up plan was. He basically just told me it won't happen and it's not a big deal. If zero stars actually worked, that's what this fine establishment would get. First, I used their mail order rental as a groomsman. Classic "I'm not the customer so who gives a f**k about quality" experience. I'm out $200 for a poorly made, cheap fabric, shitty cut suit that looked dreadful. Their "algorithm" (ha!) got my pant size wrong and I had to pay for express shipping to fix THEIR MISTAKE because they wouldn't get here in time otherwise. They'd ship to the wedding destination but I wouldn't risk that if I were you. The groom was happy, glad for that, but he had his suit custom made by Indochino. Do that. About the same price, MUCH MUCH better materials and fit, and you get to keep the damn thing rather than being forced to ship it back within 2 days to avoid a $75 "extension" fee. Run. Run like the plague. If you're planning an event, DON'T USE THESE FOLKS. cheap junk, overpriced, and insulting to wear. Oh, and they'll chip in $15 for "alterations". I can't speak for other reps with this company but we worked with Vinny in the Palo Alto location and he made a complete mess of our order. He ordered the same suit twice for the father of the bride and then ordered 6 of the wrong color tie for the groom and groomsmen. When I pointed this out to him, he said "fine fine, I'll take care of it." Then spent 30 min on the phone with support while we waited. At the end of it, he assured us it was fixed. When I asked to see the receipts of the changes, he said that it would take some time to process. Unsurprisingly, the errors were not fixed. I had to spend 1.5 hours with support myself to fix it. The quality of the suits look ok and it's convenient to see samples beforehand, which you're not able to do at a place like the Men's Wearhouse. But if you end up working with someone like Vinny, it's going to be a horrible experience. read more

I woke up at 7AM Sunday morning after these people called my phone so many times it bypassed the silent settings. They said my appointment for the next day, which I had booked a month in advance, was being cancelled because of a shooting at the Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose. Wow, what!? I woke up, starting checking the news and... Nothing. I told the rep there was no shooting and she insisted there was, until backing down and saying there was an active threat and their rep wasn't comfortable coming in for a sizing. This was also untrue - SJPD is not tracking any threat. She said they had no options to rebook because everything was full, unless I flew down to Santa Monica, and that I should just get fitted somewhere else and send them the sizes without looking at or trying anything on. I also sat on the line with her for 50 minutes while the rep attempted (and failed) to get a supervisor on the line. I wanted them to prioritize a reschedule within the week and the management couldn't be bothered. You called me multiple times at 7:00AM on Sunday. A day prior to my appointment, they cancel my appointment because there was a threat made at the mall. No problem, I fully understand. But then they open up and then give my appointment to another individual. Instead of attempting to reschedule for me, they ask me to look up other available appointments and simply book another as if I hadn't been waiting months for this. Suit quality was fine enough. I was told the company does not provide alterations for purchases; they only provide free alterations for rentals. That's after I spent an hour on the website processing my request for the alternations/replacement. I never received a prompt letting me know my purchase did not qualify for alternations. Ridiculous. The packaging states, "Our customers deserve the best possible formalwear experience... We're committed to providing you with a high level of service..." I ordered a tux 2 months before my friend's wedding. They had no response until I reached out 20 days before my event started. The suit was shipped 5 days before my event and it's not fit. I wrote an email for them asking for a return because there is no way they can send me a replacement on time. Since then they kept silent and totally ignored my following emails asking them for a return label. Could not contact them by phone or email. Totally a scam. Wow. I love the service here. I went with my brother to get fitted for a wedding and Jarred really took his time and took care of us!

Where to start. First, clearly a tech startup that doesn't know anything about renting suits. Made an on-line reservation for the store in San Mateo, showed up with my future son-in-law who called and confirmed our appointment. Arrived, no one there, no sign of the store. Called "customer service", was told they were open, that someone else had the same problem 30 minutes ago, "just look around and ask for a manager". OK, did that, found a manager and learned they were interviewing potential employees for an opening about a month away. Returned (foolishly, we seriously should have seen the signs and went somewhere else) for a fitting when they had finally opened. The fitting was a joke. The woman who helped us was wonderful, but didn't know how to fit a suit to save her life. Small selection too. They had at most a quarter of the tuxedoes in store that were shown on-line. Then, in our group, half of the bow ties we ordered were pre-tied, half were not. REALLY? Since when do you have to tie your own rented bow tie? When we were done with that drama, we dropped off the suits at UPS. Never got a confirmation that they had received them, and it's impossible to check on-line. Had to call, the gentleman confirmed they had been received and suggested we ignore the late-charge email that they had sent! REALLY? This place is a joke. If I could give it zero stars, I would. So I ordered my tux in perfect time before my event. The coat was too big , no big deal. Just request another size. I did the same day thinking I would get it in time. Finally, it shipped, THREE DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING and had a delivery date 4 DAYS after the wedding. I contacted them to ruah a replacement over night to my hotel and it getting there at 9am only to find out they forgot to change my address so it was sent to my house 4 and a half hours away. So not only did I pay almost 200 for a rental, just not to fit, they are now saying they do not see my return in their system. Avoid this conpany at all cost. It was suppose to be a special day but, because of the stress from this company, it was stressful. Also note, every form if contact is tbrough email so the responses are terrible.
