Marina at Le Caprice is a lifesaver! I ordered a Vivienne Westwood gown from a very popular bridal shop. When I tried it on during pickup, I knew something was off. It took 3 stylists just to hook the dress together before it could be zipped up. I had not gained any weight since ordering, and the dress felt like it had been ordered a size too small. The stylist who was helping me put on the dress kept reassuring me that the gown had a hard corset, and because it was strapless, it was meant to fit that tightly. Well before my actual wedding, I had my courthouse ceremony... I needed a lot of help to get the dress hooked on, and when it came time to drive to the courthouse, I couldn't even sit up. I had to lean the car seat all the way back in order to make it to the courthouse. The entire afternoon I was so uncomfortable that I didn't even want to drink water. After that experience, I brought my dress to Marina at Le Caprice. She took one look at my back and didn't even bother zipping me up. She assured me that my dress was too small, that it was not just in my head, and offered to remove the zipper and replace it with a corset back! I was nervous because I really loved the top part of my dress and how snatched it made my waist look, but when I received my dress it still looked just as perfect! Marina is a magician. I brought my wedding dress, which was a sample dress with beading that desperately needed some love and sizing down, and my reception dress 3 months prior to my wedding day. Marina works so quickly and efficiently that starting 3 months was actually a bit early- 2 months would have been sufficient for me. The first fitting appointment was a bit of a whirlwind so it helped to have additional set of eyes as well as pre-meditation of what I wanted. After the initial alterations, there was only one additional minor alteration needed for my wedding dress. She did an excellent job fixing up the beading, with the overall fit, bustle, and changing the lining, and her prices were more than fair. I did have to ask to try on my dress after the 2nd round of alterations, as that was not part of their usual process. Marina holds onto the wedding dress and steams it right before you pick it up, which should be closer to your wedding day, so plan accordingly. I took my reception dress home after the first alterations, but after practicing for our first dance, I decided I wanted some additional security to keep the strapless dress up. Marina did an absolutely beautiful job tailoring my wedding dress to fit me perfectly. I cannot recommend her enough. My dress had multiple parts to it, including several layers of tulle, delicate lace, and a bolero. The dress was hemmed to fit my height at 5'2, which involved hemming the dress from the waist to avoid removing the beautiful floral lace design at the bottom of the dress. Marina amazingly removed and then resewed the lace at the waistline, and I could not even tell that the lace was resewn. In addition to hemming the dress, Marina also added a 5-point bustle that allowed me to easily move and dance in my dress all night after the ceremony. My cousin, who bustled my dress the day of, said this was the easiest dress she had ever bustled. Marina also did some adjustments to the bust area of my dress and replaced the thin spaghetti straps that originally came with my dress with a set of floral lace straps that were much more supportive and beautiful. And lastly, Marina also tailored the bolero to fit me perfectly! The bolero was made of extremely thin and delicate lace fabric, and Marina did a phenomenal job tailoring it to fit my frame. Marina and her team at Le Caprice we absolutely amazing to work with. I only came in twice before my dress was tailed to perfection. Marina is exceptional and talented! She has a keen eye for what will look best and brought my vision to life after showing her an inspiration photo of my bridal jacket that she created from fabric I bought. She added buttons and loops to the back of my dress to cover an ugly zipper and also made my double French bustle look perfect. The whole process was stress free and her confidence made me sure my dress was going to fit perfectly. Ladies, this is the review you need to read. This is the advice I would give to any of my besties. I trusted this alteration shop for my wedding dress because of its affordable price, friendly customer service, and close to 5 star review. Durability I had cap sleeves added to my address. The right one broke 30 minutes into the dancing portion of reception. My MOH tried to safety pin it back in place several times, but the temporary fix didn't hold up. Bustle. I had several bustles added. ALL of them did not hold up after a night of dancing. All were broken and I was dragging the train of my dress all over with me that night. Given the wrong dress When I picked up my dress, I gave my name to the lady by the appointment book with the time I was supposed to pick it up that day. Admittedly, I should've double checked that it was the correct dress so that's also on me. But with all the wedding preparations going on in my mind, there was no way that this shop would hand me over the wrong dress, right?! I drive to San Francisco on a Friday for rehearsal with and my wedding is scheduled on a Saturday. I get a panicked call from the shop owner at 12:00pm on Friday saying that I picked up the wrong dress! They end up sending an assistant to drive over my dress and I return the one that I had picked up. So we were able to make the appropriate switch, but man did that add stress that didn't need to be there in the first place. This is not an experience I'd want for my bestie or for any bride to be. Please consider very carefully where you choose to get your dress altered. I totally recommend Le Caprice to brides and people looking for special occasion dresses like a wedding or prom. They are so affordable compared to other SJ places. I needed huge alterations, new zipper, steam, etc. I came in with two months till my wedding, and they made it happen! The booking process via email was super easy and the staff is friendly. They also offered to make a custom black veil with embroidered custom flowers to match my bouquet, so I am going to do that over Etsy. A cathedral with a blush layer, just as I had dreamed. Marina did a good job with my wedding gown. I purchased it previously-owned, and needed some pretty simple adjustments to make it fit just right: tighter in the waist, looser in the hips, and little bit of a hem for my height. luckily, the original bride had her seamstress keep the extra fabric instead of trimming it off, so letting out the hips was an option for me. Marina also gave me a new bustle. the process with Marina was simple. she made the initial adjustments, I came back to try it on, and she made the final adjustments to get the hips just right and sent me on my way. I went to Marina by myself each time (family and friends all live on the East Coast/in SoCal), so I didn't have a second set of eyes with me, which I think would have been helpful in the end. I say this because each try-on did feel a bit rushed (maybe it was self-imposed, I don't know). I think I would have appreciated a little more personalization - like asking me how I felt about the fit, if I see anything I'd like to change. instead, Marina kinda just did her thing and marked what she saw needed adjusting. *You can tell that she is very knowledgeable, and I kinda just trusted her eye. At my try-on after the initial adjustments, I learned that they changed the bustle type from what the original bride had to a French Bustle. The French Bustle has 5 points, and they color coded each one so that it was easy to do. however, they never asked me what kind of bustle I wanted/never discussed any bustle options with me, they just did it... I would have liked a say in how my dress looked bustled up for my first dance. But at this point, the deed was done, so I didn't say anything - I just accepted it. it felt like such a minor thing, why get worked up over it?! After the final adjustments (getting the hips just right), I didn't have another fitting to ensure a perfect fit. I was told it wasn't needed because the final adjustments to the hips was "easy." After my final pickup (adjustments and steaming completed), I brought my dress home and immediately put it on. I'm so glad I insisted on trying it on one more time, because it wasn't quite perfect. The hook & eye closure at the top of the zipper was missing the eye (it had been there at all my other fittings). so I had to purchase some at Michael's and sew one on myself (easy enough, but annoying that I needed to do this in the first place). I also hated the way the low back didn't hug my body - from the bottom of the low back to the top of my booty, it was just kinda suspended over my body, so it didn't compliment the curvature of my body and was unflattering in my opinion. I'm not sure that this was necessarily something Marina could have adjusted perfectly to my liking, but I never really got a chance to look at it/address it with her. so again, I did some DIY makeshift adjustments using some snap-on buttons from Michael's and attaching them to the inside of the dress and to my Skims. it wasn't a perfect solution still, but it certainly looked much better than without. I considered calling Marina and discussing these imperfections, but I was just too nervous about the turn-around. my makeshift adjustments were sufficient for a dress I was going to change out of after first dances. At Le Caprice, they recommend picking up your gown as close to your wedding day as possible (because they steam it for you). Another bride picked up her gown on Thursday for her Saturday wedding. I'm too Type-A to wait until 3 days before my wedding to get my gown (not to mention we were driving to our SoCal wedding the Monday before our Saturday wedding, so I HAD to pick mine up early). I picked mine up on Thursday a week before my wedding. Considering the 2 imperfections I mentioned, I'm that much more thankful I was able to put my dress on before my wedding day! Overall, I DO recommend Le Caprice for bridal/formal gown tailoring. but I also recommend having a second set of eyes with you when you go and not being shy about asking questions/making requests read more

Her prices are very reasonable, I've told some friends about how much it cost to get my dress altered and the quotes they got were always pricier than Marina's. I've been to La Caprice twice in the past year for dress alterations and I'm so glad to have found Marina. She is truly an expert, listens carefully to what I need, as well as gives me various options/ideas to make the perfect fit, and is very reasonable/fair on pricing. On my first visit which was last year, I brought in my daughter's bridesmaid's dress, which she could not be present for the fitting. I explained to Marina that my daughter is similar shape/size, but 2 inches taller than me, and I only needed the dress to be hemmed. I put on some 2 inch heeled shoes, and Marina explained to me that the dress may hang differently from one person to another depending on the bust and bottom sizes. That made sense to me, and I said to her to do your best, since my daughter lives 4 hours away, and cannot be present. I trusted Marina, and when my daughter finally got her dress, she was very happy, and said it was the perfect length. The second visit was for me, and I had two dresses that needed alterations. One of my dresses was an evening gown, which I thought fit fine except for the length. When I put it on, Marina pinched the top of the shoulders pulling the dress up about an inch. I was amazed that, that made a difference, where the waist line now matched my waistline. The length was also altered to exactly what I wanted which was for the dress length to lay on the top of my foot. The other dress was a sundress, where the bustline was too big and needed to be taken in. Marina, pulled in the fabric from the front of my dress (along the bustline seam), and placed pins to secure the dress. Before coming into the shop, I thought the alteration would be to take in the sides of the dress, so I again was pleasantly surprised on how the alteration was going to be done from the front. When both dresses were ready to pick up, I tried them on, and wow! I was thrilled to have both dresses altered to fit me perfectly. BRIDES! Stop looking elsewhere for a bridal tailor because Marina is IT. Firstly, as a type-A overworried kind of bride, I'm weary about where to get my dress(es) tailored, and did a ton of research. I read through every single reddit thread that mentions any bay area bridal tailors, and Le Caprice/Marina kept coming up. Then I found out my friend got her Berta dress tailored here and the dress fits her like a glove!! That's when I know, fantastic, I need to take all my dresses to Marina from now on. I first brought two rehearsal/welcome dinner dresses to Marina and she did a fantastic job. One of the two dresses is a mini dress from Katherine Tash I'm obsessed with, but the fit was never quite right. This dress has gone through the hands of two other tailors until Marina finally fixed it for me, once and for all, and I'm SO beyond happy! For example, there was a piece of the lining that was showing on my skirt, and Marina brought out scissors and started cutting the fabric while I was still wearing the dress! You could tell she's incredibly confident because she's competent. For this other longer silk satin dress, she's meticulous, and pointed out details that normal ppl would not have noticed but these details matter: "those hooks on the back are showing! they aren't supposed to show!" I got both of these dresses back only a little after a month and she did an epic job on both. I also think it's important to point out that Marina's prices are incredibly reasonable, and she's transparent. She will NOT upsell you or charge you more, just because you bring in an expensive gown. She treats everyone with COMPLETE KINDNESS, and I unfortunately cannot say the same about other bridal seamstresses that I had interacted with in the past. Look no further for the best seamstress in the Bay Area. I have had the pleasure of meeting Marina 12 years ago when I was dress shopping and I couldn't find what I wanted at an affordable price. Getting alterations at Le Caprice was a straight forward process. Marina is really no-nonsense (which can sometimes feel brusque) but overall the dress fit well and the bustle was easy to use. I am deducting a star because they lost my dress bag that had extra buttons in it. They also put the dress and veil in a plastic bag that was very difficult to transport. read more

Marina was such a dream to work with throughout the whole alterations process! I purchased my dress online from a secondhand service, sight unseen, knowing that alterations was going to be a key piece of getting the dress to fit. Though I tried to get as close to my own measurements as possible, it ended up being just a smidge too tight and needed to be let out. The dress itself had already been altered once and there wasn't much more fabric to work with, but Marina worked her magic and it ended up fitting perfectly! In addition, my May 15 wedding ended up turning into a September 3 elopement (thanks to COVID) and Marina was so responsive, accommodating, and flexible throughout all those months of uncertainty and changes in plans. I ended up leaving the dress with her until the wedding/elopement got scheduled and she was able to make the alterations within a couple of weeks and at such a reasonable cost!
