Love this place! Staff are friendly and helpful. In the spring they serviced my hybrid that hadn't been serviced in over 10 years. Price was really reasonable and they were very non-judgemental about my rusty dusty bike. It rode like new when they were done with it. Fast forward to the summer and I decided to add a road bike to my fleet. They let me test ride a variety of bikes in a variety of price ranges. The sales team were very educational and helped me understand the differences between the bikes. They were respectful of my budget and didn't pressure me to buy the most expensive bike. When my bike came in, they helped by putting all the accessories on for me. Convenient location right along the W&OD. Lots of parking, so stop in and say hi the next time you go for a ride. Very unique kind of business. Northern Virginia has a strong bike-riding culture, so a bike shop makes a lot of sense. Maybe bicyclists like getting a beer or coffee after a long ride? I couldn't tell you because I sure don't ride a bike, but I do have a few friends out in the Reston area so this is definitely a nice find for getting a drink with friends. Really nice to sit at an outdoor table in the warm weather, plenty of table umbrellas, and a tent. The beer selection is small, but good (at least that was my partner's experience) a few on tap, and a few options in cans. Very good prices on the beer too. The coffees (I had a latte) were a bit pricier, but also quite good. Living in DC proper, I can't say The Bike Lane is amazing enough to motivate me to take that hour+ trip to get there most of the time, but I'm glad to know a good option in the area for the next time I might visit. read more

I am so impressed by the customer service. I am a HS teacher who brought her student's bike in having NO IDEA how expensive repairing a bike would be. From the start, Mark was extremely kind and encouraged me to bring the bike in. He glanced it over and filled the tires before I took it to the amazing Richard. I explained my tough situation and he was so generous. He made sure I was able to afford the repair and got it to me the same day. I brought my daughters bike in for a gear shift repair. The gear shift housing had exploded and there were wires that got stuck in her chain, causing the chain to fall off. I've stopped at the Bike Lane on the W&OD about half a dozen times during rides in in the last few years and always find the staff and mechanics super helpful and ready to tackle virtually any issue I have with my bike which is actually a recumbent trike that always seems to need a couple of lbs of air in its tires. My riding pal and I went for a charity ride on the trail on a snowy winter day and stopped there -- I was impressed there was anyone there since the weather was so crappy, I skipped the beer but the coffee sure was good and helped take the edge off the inclement weather. When I pulled up and asked if someone could help with pumping the tires, they were friendly and even seemed slightly cheerful about it. I guess that's what you want/need in a people business to succeed around here. Now when I go for a ride and decide which route to take to enter the WO&D, I find I more often than not will take the section they're on and cruise up the bumpy path to the Bike Lane and stop at one of the umbrella'd tables and ask the first person who comes out to greet me if they can help me. The douchbaggery of this place is amazing. I purchased a Trek for my son and they told me the bike would be ready on Tuesday, then Saturday, and the next day they called me to pick it up. Complete cluster from whatever business school these guys graduated from. Nobody really knows what is going on! Once I got the Bike, they pulled a switch and bait on the tires. Put cheaper tires on the bike however swapped them out when I called them out. Never again will I spend a penny in that store. Found a place in Vienna called Spokes which will serve the remainder of my bike purchases. read more

I few weeks ago I was riding in a rainy day the W&OD Trail. One of may cages started to fall and I found this small bike shop with beer and coffee, etc... As soon I got in they inmeditale fixed the problem, no charge. In the meantime, I went to the restroom and order a coffee... yummy! Tom worked on the bike and started talking about my bike and the cool colors. The bike was done and I went back to the trail to finish my training. Because of Tom, I new I was going to go back to Bike Lane (beer and coffee, etc... yummy!) for service/maintenace of the bike before my race day. Tom is the man in the service and maintenance area. I have a TT Trek Di2 bike. This is a very delicate and fragile bike when is time to do maintance. With that said, I do not trust too many people when is time to work on it. Tom was very knowledgeable and took his time to fixed the problem and give maintenance on my TT. Also, the Bike Lane Store has a great welcoming crew that help you all the way with all your questions. I appreciated the confidence and the positive vibes when you come in and on the phone. This store was busy busy all day long. If you decide to visit the store for maintance, please ask for Tom and make sure you take your bike for maintance ahead of time. I stopped in the shop to get a flat tire fixed. While I was there, I asked the technician to look at the rear derailleur that was skipping gears. He was able to quickly diagnose the problem and adjusted the derailleur, so it now works very well. There was only a minimum charge to fix the derailleur, but the repair is priceless. I've always had a good experience any time I get service at this bike shop. I would highly recommend them. read more

Review from a mom with a 2.5 yr old in tow - First time visit to the store - EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE I came in on Saturday, and it was my first ever visit to the store. I hadn't biked in years and decided to tow my 27 lb 2.5 yr old in a chariot using our neighbors bike. (it was a great workout and enthused me to want to buy my own bike) I am somewhat fit, but was quite exhausted and hot when I arrived. Despite leaving at 5pm, I arrived at 5:40pm and was promptly greeted by almost every person in the store. The store has a very relaxed, welcoming vibe. (I have worked in retail, F&B for a good part of my life and have always been in a customer service role). Mark was the team member who helped me and my daughter. We needed to get our neighbors bike and chariot tuned, buy helmets, bells, and tire repair kits. My daughter, Madeleine, was fussy and I was tired. Mark made getting what we need not only easy, but personable and caring. Madeleine did not want to try on the helmet, so I bribed her with letting her pick out a Luna bar. Thank goodness they were there! Mark stayed past 6pm to put some air in our tires and help me get Madeleine back in the chariot. We didn't have space for one of the helmets so he kept it at the store and we picked it up the next day. What a stellar customer experience Mark gave us and all the staff were so friendly! I hope Mark gets a bonus :) I am very happy with my purchases and will continue to use Bike Lane for any applicable needs. Thank you! Ideally located near the W&OD Trail. New outdoor patio after COVID? Clean and new in appearance--including the mechanics bike tools. Strange men with a leaf blower disturbed the ambiance on the return trip, albeit it was after hours. Anyone know who the owner is? D. of R.? Or did he sell? I had my used bike serviced with a tune up a few months ago at the Bike Lane in Reston and they were very thorough in checking details during the busy pandemic year. Just a couple days ago, I heard a whirling noise near my back tire so I called and brought it into the shop today. Tom asked a few questions about the noise and knew right away what the noise was! I was riding my bike on the W&OD Trail when I got a flat on my back tire on a 98 degree day. This was my first flat way out in the trail and it was HOT! Thankfully, The Bike Lane was close by. I walked in right off the trail in a bit of a panic and they immediately helped me. Michelle took me into the back and showed me how to change the tire and then proceeded to complete some much needed tuneups to ensure I was safe, all free of charge. They simply wanted to help a fellow biker. I was astounded by the level of service, the feeling of instant community, and most importantly the great beer! Employee to me once I asked to look at their inventory - "I'm sorry we only have high end luxury bikes.. nothing under $1,000". I visited the store yesterday with my sister who's in the market for a bike. We waited outside per the instructions posted and waited for an employee. Once the employee came out we were greeted.. I explained that we wanted to take a look at their inventory. The employee responded "I'm sorry we only have high end luxury bikes.. nothing under $1,000". To which I responded okay and are we not welcome to look at that inventory? He said sure and kind of stumbled on his words; he walked us inside and answered a few of our questions. There was another employee who was much more inviting but he was assisting a couple and had to step away from us. When he left us the first employee circled back. We left without purchasing. With everything going on in the world right now telling someone they can't afford the bikes in your store isn't going to earn their business. He said this aloud in front of other customers that I'm sure he thou could afford the luxury bikes. My sons bike tire had popped on a ride near the shop. We walked in at 1230 and were greeted and directed to the service area were we stood for a while. There was one other customer in the shop and maybe 6-7 employees walking around. The only thing we heard was from the initial greeting, so after standing around without any help, we left. It's convenient location with a bike trail nearby but people there were not very customer focused... oh well, there's more bike shops around and we will just have to carry a spare tube and pump purchased elsewhere. read more

Super impressed with my bike fitting, service and shopping experiences at the Reston Bike Lane. As a resident of Burke, I frequently visit and am a raving fan of The Bike Lane (TBL) in Springfield; however, I needed a bike fitting and scheduled an appointment with Bill at the Reston and what a fantastic experience. The Fitting with Bill @ TBL - Reston Bill greeted me as I entered the store (it just worked out that way) and put me immediately at ease. He is knowledgeable, kind, courtesy and explained everything to me in detail. He was open to questions and feedback and was focused on making sure we fit my bike to give me the most comfortable ride possible. We started off discussing how I ride, my personal goals and issues / discomforts I experience when riding. Then we talked about saddles, he examined and tweaked my cleat positioning, checked the saddle position, etc. Bill was thorough and explaining his process as he went along. He spent 40 minutes just transferring knowledge to me about my bike and riding. Then I hopped on and he checked my riding position, angles and leg positioning using computer graphics -- pretty cool and advanced stuff. He made some adjustments to my bike, ordered some parts and will do a follow up check to make sure we got it right. I tried the new saddle out on a 20+ mile ride on Saturday and I didn't realize that biking could be so comfortable. Thanks Bill! The Service Department As a store right off the WO&D, TBL Reston's service department is hopping during the riding months (April - October) they are efficient, organized and top notch pros. It is best to call ahead as they are busy and may not be able to make on the fly adjustments to your bike. But their technical knowledge and expertise are top notch so they are my top choice for needed repairs. The Store The store is clean, well lit and conveniently located off the WO&D. They have bikes galore (mostly Trek) and have a cafe that features coffee and beer for the thirsty cyclist as well as sandwiches and gnoshes for hunger. They carry Bontrager and Terry saddles, bike accessories and cycling clothing. The customer service is excellent, they are available but not pushy or over salesy. They provide honest opinions of products that helped guide me to make good for me selections. Overall, my experience with TBL-Reston was outstanding and I heartily recommend the store, and the bike fitting services. read more

I would not recommend using this specific Bike Shop. Sales staff is not knowledgeable nor organized. My wife and I recently started road biking and bought our bikes from the Springfield store. With our purchases we received some store credit that we wanted to apply towards the clipless pedals and shoes. In those couple months The Bike Lane-Reston reopened, which was closer to home. We called ahead on a Sunday afternoon to make sure they would have the time to talk us through the process and received a "no problem, come on down." We walked into the store with our bikes with the expectation we would be walked through this transition to clipless pedals, but instead it was a zoo. There were a few younger sales associates parking people's bikes in the aisle ways. The associate asked by the manager to help us didn't have the knowledge with the basic process of transitioning to the pedals nor was he willing to seek help. The manager did briefly visit us and briefly expressed some metrics that could have been out of Star Wars for all we knew. At this point we figured we would be better off visiting another bike shop. We are extremely patient and understand we would have needed some time with the process, hence calling ahead. Here are a couple ideas to improve the customer service. First, we recommend the management put a process in to declutter the store with customers' bikes. This way people can navigate the store without being blocked or knocking over someone's bike. Second, manage expectations of time and service. We would of happily waited for thirty minutes or come back another day with a "we just got swamped" statement. We understand that and appreciate a busy small business. Moving forward we need to ask ourselves, do we need the credit that bad? We feel we could have been sold the wrong items and given some bad instruction resulting in one of us getting hurt. read more

Great bike shop in Reston!! My experience at the Bike Lane in Reston was phenominal!! The salesman, Marc, was extremely knowledgeable and "no pressure". He patiently answered all our questions, even the dumb ones. He encouraged us to take a ride around the parking lot, I hadn't been on a bike for about 10 years, but felt extremely confident as these are very nice to ride, with about 3 minutes of instruction on how they work. I knew absolutely NOTHING about e-bikes, but now I feel like an expert. Both my daughter and I left with an ebike that I absolutely LOVE. Well, we didn't actually leave with both as only one would fit in my daughters SUV and we had no bike rack. Marc offered to stay late so we could take the one bike home and come back for the other. We declined his offer, however, he insisted it was no problem. This was late on a Saturday and he was so graciousl. He saw how excited we were to have our bikes and they are closed on Sunday and Monday's, therefore we were able to get our bikes that day, due to his generous offer. I recently brought in my bike for a complete overhaul after putting 17,000 miles on the bike in the past 2 years. When I brought in the bike, they immediately put the bike on the repair stand and checked it out. They gave me recommendations and options for parts to be replaced (since many bike parts are very hard to get at the moment), so I knew what to expect in terms of cost and how long it might take before leaving the store.
