I am so impressed by the customer service. I am a HS teacher who brought her student's bike in having NO IDEA how expensive repairing a bike would be. From the start, Mark was extremely kind and encouraged me to bring the bike in. He glanced it over and filled the tires before I took it to the amazing Richard. I explained my tough situation and he was so generous. He made sure I was able to afford the repair and got it to me the same day. It was a stressful day at work and I could not have appreciated more the help I got from both amazing employees. This will be my family's only bike shop from now on. Big bonus is the brewery too :)

My 'bike' is an HP Velotechnik Gekko-fx. rides good, sits low to the trail, pleasure to ride :)

I've stopped at the Bike Lane on the W&OD about half a dozen times during rides in in the last few years and always find the staff and mechanics super helpful and ready to tackle virtually any issue I have with my bike which is actually a recumbent trike that always seems to need a couple of lbs of air in its tires. My riding pal and I went for a charity ride on the trail on a snowy winter day and stopped there -- I was impressed there was anyone there since the weather was so crappy, I skipped the beer but the coffee sure was good and helped take the edge off the inclement weather. When I pulled up and asked if someone could help with pumping the tires, they were friendly and even seemed slightly cheerful about it. I guess that's what you want/need in a people business to succeed around here. Now when I go for a ride and decide which route to take to enter the WO&D, I find I more often than not will take the section they're on and cruise up the bumpy path to the Bike Lane and stop at one of the umbrella'd tables and ask the first person who comes out to greet me if they can help me. Great bike shop, nice, competent technicians, tasty snacks and beverages, plus clean bathrooms down the hall. Highly recommend this place!

Ideally located near the W&OD Trail. New outdoor patio after COVID? Clean and new in appearance--including the mechanics bike tools. Strange men with a leaf blower disturbed the ambiance on the return trip, albeit it was after hours. Anyone know who the owner is? D. of R.? Or did he sell? At any rate, the famous bike frame bending device was also on display, which helped restore my bike some years ago. Kudos!! even now for such a heroic effort.

Just had to add this update, today I went in to buy a new bike rack and instead of selling me a new one, Bill helped me get my old one working, for no charge!

With my 56th birthday approaching, I wanted to bring that tradition back. However, my bike was not in good shape. The repair shop went above and beyond to clean my bike, replace broken parts, and restore it to its former glory. Yesterday, I rode 56 miles from Vienna to Purcellville and back. I truly appreciate the staff for helping me bring back this tradition and reminding me how much I love riding the trail! Thank you so much!

This is an updated review after Trek acquired Spokes in early 2022 and changed the name to Trek permanently as of April 2022. The selection of bikes here is great (if you are looking for a Trek model of course). Back in 2020, the staff did not try to pressure me into buying a particular brand. I really appreciated that after visiting another bike store that was trying to do a hard sell. Also, I was grateful when Spokes Inc. called a neighboring store to find a mountain bike that my 16 year old liked. It was ready in a week or so. Fast forwarding to May 2022, I returned to do a Level 2 tune-up for each bike. It's a bit pricey at $189, but the service charge seemed reasonable given how much wear and tear my sons have put on both bikes (e.g., inner tube and tires needed replacement). One thing that I like about this store is that Trek seemed to retain most of the service employees in the back when it was called Spokes. That's a positive sign that Trek wants to retain loyal customers, and has a clear business model and strategy (i.e., post-pandemic demand for bikes will decrease, but demand for service work will increase). Bottom line - if you're looking for a new bike or need service work, be sure to take a look at the Trek Bicycle Store as one of your options.

I am not sure if there is a single Yelp entry for the system, Capital Bikeshare. I write to explain…read moremy experience. It is positive to date. I recommend this. The background. I am in my late 50s. I do not live in Washington, D.C. My elderly father does though. So I am in and out all the time, checking up on him (he still lives on his own). I am experienced riding a bicycle in the city. I have owned an e bike (it stopped working, the Van Moof; I loved it when it ran, but build quality was an issue). I also rented regularly in San Francisco when I lived there, and do so intermittently in New York City where I reside now. I have had good experiences and bad, including an issue where part of a bike belonging to the defunct Uber system fell out in an intersection, and the customer service agent told me I was lucky I didn't die and offered me a $2 refund, which I thought was rather rude, prompting me to interact with the General Counsel's office to no avail -- moral of the story is you won't get much by complaining, even if you are in the right and quite polite. All told, I am confident I have taken at least three dozen rides, maybe four dozen rides, with at least three other companies, in two major metropolitan areas besides DC. I also support mass transit and alternative transit. I regularly ride the bus, and I am irked by people who assume I would not do that, because they are projecting their sense of privilege (it is apparent from their disdain they would not ride the bus) on me. I also run commute as much as I can, and I previously did that on a regular basis (three days a week, 4.5 miles, just one way; then MUNI back). That is not to brag about virtue. Don't trust anybody who touts their own morality. In any event, Capital Bikeshare seems to have worked out the problems with this service. They have lots of bikes. That have lots of locations (including one about a quarter mile from where we stay and another on the side of the train station where I need to go). They have an acceptable number of e bikes in the fleet. The maintenance is much better than pre-pandemic with their rivals. (I am opposed to the dockless networks. Those result in the inevitable problem of bikes scattered willy nilly on sidewalks and where they pose a hazard.) The annual fee is reasonable. I am planning three trips in the next two weeks, early in the morning before Metro starts running, to Union Station. If I do as I intend, the amount saved over a motor vehicle ride share will offset the cost. I figure at 4am, the traffic will not be a great hazard (though the drivers out will include a disproportionate number of people who, given the late/early hour, probably pose a risk).

Not only did they provide me with some complimentary grease, their veteran team of mechanics were not only extremely patient and friendly with all the customers but were professional and efficient in their skills to complete the task as well as offer explanations on anticipating future issues such as tightening the handbrake cables after a few rides. Despite being around since 1957 and having the business passed down a generation now with over 10 locations in the area, it's nice to see they are not resting on their laurels since the staff very much had a mom/pop sensibility with good mix of older and younger staff and they seem to be very familiar with regular customers chatting with them in a first name basis and asking about other family members, like a neighborhood bartender and his/her regular patrons. I highly recommend Robert, who is sharp as a tack and has even made several YouTube videos posted on troubleshooting bicycle issues at home when he worked with a previous company.
