Even so, Capital Bikeshare charged another account connected to the trip for a bike that had already been returned. The charge was eventually reversed, but only after we had to provide evidence and spend our time dealing with an issue that should never have happened. What's most frustrating is that their system failed to recognize the return, but we were the ones left to sort it out. We provided clear proof, yet still had to go back and forth with customer service over a charge that was made in error. A bike-sharing company should be able to tell when a bike has been properly returned. If the company's records don't match the customer's proof, the customer shouldn't be held responsible without a proper investigation. This was a frustrating experience and has made me think twice about using Capital Bikeshare again. Customers shouldn't have to repeatedly prove that they returned a bike when there's documentation showing that they did. If you use Capital Bikeshare, keep your screenshots, receipts, trip details, and any other proof of the return. You may need them.

I had been less than enthusiastic since our last tandem bike jaunt in DC left me ragged and looking forward to the end. We rented a tandem bike from a known rental in DC; the bike was rickety and took effort even on the completely flat route we were on. My GF found Pedego and opted for the tandem electric bike. This was a 180 degree experience from the other rental company jn DC. The owner was friendly, attentive, enthusiastic and really made us feel welcome. He knows his bikes gave us a quick run down that made us feel comfortable. The bikes are impeccabley maintained and he's thought of everything including helmets, storage pouch, bike lock, flat tire kit etc. He was even extremely well versed on the route to Mt. Vernon. Every pointer he gave us was spot on. We made it to Mt. Vernon and enjoyed food, history, and culture. The way back was fun since the bike did all the work, electric is the way to go for tandem bike long hauls. I plan on coming back to buy some accessories for my own fat tire e-bikes. This was a memorable experience that was easy and affordable.

The customer service was awful, especially considering I emailed proof showing that the bike was returned and they still attempted to charge us. It is completely unacceptable for a company to charge customers for something that did not happen and then ignore the evidence provided to them. We followed the return process exactly as instructed, yet somehow we were held responsible for a system or docking issue that was completely outside of our control. What made this experience even worse was dealing with Kimberly and Christea. Their handling of the situation was extremely poor. They were unhelpful, dismissive, and seemed completely unwilling to take the evidence seriously. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they made us repeatedly explain ourselves even after we had already provided proof. Their customer service was honestly some of the worst I have experienced. What makes this even more frustrating is the lack of accountability. We provided proof, explained the situation, and instead of resolving the issue, they continued attempting to charge us. Customers should not have to fight charges for services they properly completed. If your system says a bike was returned and a customer provides proof that it was returned, the reasonable thing to do is investigate and correct the charge, not continue billing the customer. Extremely disappointing experience. Capital Bikeshare needs to seriously improve its customer service, billing practices, and accountability when its equipment or system fails. Kimberly and Christea made an already frustrating situation significantly worse through their dismissive and unhelpful responses. I would strongly caution anyone using this service to keep detailed records and proof of every bike return, because apparently you may have to fight to prove you did exactly what you were supposed to do.

Price was really reasonable and they were very non-judgemental about my rusty dusty bike. It rode like new when they were done with it. Fast forward to the summer and I decided to add a road bike to my fleet. They let me test ride a variety of bikes in a variety of price ranges. The sales team were very educational and helped me understand the differences between the bikes. They were respectful of my budget and didn't pressure me to buy the most expensive bike. When my bike came in, they helped by putting all the accessories on for me. Convenient location right along the W&OD. Lots of parking, so stop in and say hi the next time you go for a ride. The folks at this shop are really great!
