Attempted to place an order over the phone from this place because I'm staying at the hotel. I called the first time, someone answered and left me on hold for 10 minutes. Called 3 more times and was sent to VOICEMAIL. The last time I called, I used the hotel phone to connect me from the front desk to the restaurant, but of course they didn't answer that either. I walk in to the restaurant and the server bartender tell me take a menu and whatever you need to order place it in the bar. I order a flight great deal 17 dollars for three generous amount of three different wines. I take them to my table, after 10 minutes my food comes out. Quite fast. I get my order in plastic containers the person that brings it to my table ask me if it's ok, knowing that we are in a pandemic and restaurants suffering I said to my self is ok. But as I esas enjoying the wine and beautiful ambiance because it's gorgeous. I see they sit and bring tables and utensils to the American couple across my table. Not asking me if I need anything if am not once. My bill was 56 i gave a 15 dollar tip before because i was charged everything at once no dessert not asked. So if is not how they are handling business was offered I felt awkward finished my wine and instead of enjoying a nice meal after a twelve hour shift as an essential worker I end up writing this review. Service wasn't great that's why I take off one star especially during this arduous times. If I wanted a to go meal I would have ordered trough Gordered trough Grubhub. This was our second time here; we're locals and have recommended this hotel to family/friends visiting from out of town. Our first visit we split the charcuterie board followed by the Cobb and Caprese salads. We both enjoyed the charcuterie board and noted it's a generous variety of some of our favorite local cheeses. The Caprese salad was notable for the lovely heirloom tomatoes. This time we had the fried calamari which was light and crispy alongside the Korean chicken wings...these were the highlight: sweet, savory and delightfully tender with a crispy skin. Wonderful. Finally, we enjoyed the Ahi Tuna, which was fresh and firm, and paired well with a cool papaya salad and sweet, bright mango vinaigrette. For a hotel restaurant, this is a great option: good food, gracious service and beautiful marina views. read more

While the Hotel Is a favorite of my wife and I, it's a shame when the restaurant over prices drinks. When you can purchase the same drink in a grocery store for one fifth of the price, you get charged 5x the amount for 1!!!!!!! Drink - not fair. Sadly tonight could have been a nice dinner out, the food was good but the service was nothing special - and actually almost dismissive. Literally our waiter asked one time is everything ok. And tbh I wouldn't have even wrote this had it not been for the fact that as I was waiting to leave I watched him talking with another customer having a lengthy conversation. And I definitely should not have stopped to use the restroom which was obviously not checked or kept up. Tried speaking with a manager, she offered a very weak apology. I'm glad to see the reviews have been sorted out and now reflect people's experience at The Berkeley Boathouse, not its predecessor. We've been back a few times since our initial visit. On a previous visit we brought Clara, leaving her in the car, where she barked. When we came out after lunch we were approached by a very nice woman who informed us that they were a dog friendly hotel and we were welcome to bring Clara to eat w/ us on the restaurant's patio/deck. We thought about bringing Clara today but while it was sunny, it was also a bit brisk to sit outside, so we left her home and sat inside. Our server the past time or two has been Gail and she was our server today. Alan and I both ordered the seafood roll, which is a generous portion of crab, shrimp and lobster, accompanied by French fries. There is so much seafood that I've had to eat about half of it w/ a fork before I could pick up the roll to eat it. That is very satisfying. Alan had iced tea and I had hot tea. The price seemed a bit high at $5 for each, but Gail offered Alan refills at least twice and I loved the hot tea service, w/ a good size teapot, a delicate little pitcher of low fat milk, a warmed cup and a tea spoon, along w/ the sweetener we requested. It was a very proper tea service, unlike places we've been where the water hasn't been heated sufficiently, no sweeter is available or no spoon. The fries look hand cut and have bits of skin attached, which I like. We were pleased w/ both our food and the service. We parked in the lot and our parking voucher was validated. read more

NEVER EAT HERE!!!!!!! This place was a complete disaster from the beginning to the sad sad end. We went here for my brother in-law's birthday dinner. Photos online look great and in person pretty nice as well. Here is the run down of tragic events. 1. Promptly seated at a high table overlooking bar but waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged. 2. Ordered all of our food and drinks once waitress arrived. Then never saw her again for awhile. 3. Took 45 minutes to get MOST of our drink orders which came out all at separate times and one never show up so a wine flight was ordered 4. We watched painfully as the waitress and manager behind the bar READ HOW to make the cocktail drinks. Never have I seen this occur. 5. One hour later NO FOOD while everyone around us got food so we kept asking. 6. Found out our food order was CANCELLED. 7. New order was put in and finally 1.5 HOURS LATER we received our apps. 8. Had to go to the bar to get drink orders ourselves because waitress was too busy or didn't notice 9. Waitress came back and whispered to my husband that they would sing happy bday and comp the dessert. We said no thanks 10. We just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible so we asked for the bill from multiple people. 11. The bill arrived and we hoped from our HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE they would give us a discount or make it right but NOPE. 12. Overcharged us for the extra drink and no discount at all. 13. I was forced to be the bad person and TWICE ask for more off the bill since they came back with only 15% off. What slap in the face!! All and all DO NOT EAT here, SERVICE IS THE WORST AND FOOD IS MEDIOCRE. read more

What a wonderful experience. It started out that I made a reservation for 20 people online. I called they said they could place us outside at several tables and we could order off the menu. As I arrived, 10 minutes before the reservation, I gots call that said we have a fixed menu. I asked to step inside-I was in parking lot- and talk with them. I explained that would not work for the group. We were having a late lunch retirement party for our previous boss and some people were arriving late and we weren't looking to serve everyone a fixed menu. They graciously agreed but had to set us inside. This worked since we are all hospital employees vaccinated with our vaccine info. From that moment on, they treated us like family. We had brought gifts, cake, deserts and ordered small plates each to everyone liking. I got a text shortly after arriving that we could only be there for 90 minutes. We ended up staying for over 3 hours. We were laughing, giving speeches and having a wonderful time. Our waiter was amazing and so helpful. The ambiance was beautiful with the boats and water outside. Having been to the marina during Covid in 2020, I decided not to venture into to area again due to homeless tents throughout entrance with trash and crowding. Amazingly, that is now gone, and the marina is again a worthwhile place to visit. 5 stars to people at Boathouse restaurant. read more

If you want a fantastic view, this is a good place. Also, consider this place is INSIDE the Double Tree Inn at the Berkeley marina, where the guests parking is $30, so just park along the road outside the inn. But, I'm reviewing the food, service and how comfortable this place is and what a disappointment. I was taken here for lunch on Christmas day and all three of us were not impressed at all. It was 4pm and the place was pretty empty. We were taken to a table with these really tall stools, and they were NOT comfortable for eating so we asked for a table. These chairs were not that comfortable either, but better than the stools, which were actually bar stools. The regular tables had these woven material type seats that looked like they belonged on the deck. Either way, the seating was NOT comfortable. We were checking out the menu for about 20 minutes and decided to get the sweet corn fritters appetizer, which were the best part of our meal. There were 8 fritters, perfectly spicy with lots of corn, queso fresco, cilantro and chili threads. Chili threads look like saffron threads and added the heat to the fritters. The texture was soft on both the outside and inside and were very dark, almost looked overcooked, but thank goodness they weren't. They could have been a bit more hotter. Once the fritters were placed on the table, we had no plates so my friend had to ask for plates and a different wait person said "I was just going to get them," with a slight attitude. Okay....why weren't the plates there before the food arrived and we wouldn't have had to ask? Under the "burgers and sandwiches" there were only three items: a burger, a fried chicken sandwich and a seafood roll. After we asked our waitress about the seafood roll, and she told us "it used to be bigger, but we've changed it and its smaller, in like a hot dog bun." We decided not to order that. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my friends both got the seared double wagyu burger. One got fries and the other a salad. I opted for fries, as well All of the entrees ranged from $23 to $38 and quite frankly, none of them appealed to ANY one of us and $23. for risotto is just too much. Our waitress disappeared after we ordered and after a while two other wait staff showed up with our meals. My friends ordered their burgers medium rare, neither one was medium rare. They each had two thin burgers, like a fast food eatery. One burger was so sloppy and wet that my friend had to use a fork and knife to eat it. If you want to see something really funny, watch a person eating a burger with a knife and fork!! The fried chicken sandwich was nothing special. Ever since Bake Sale Betty started selling her fried chicken sandwich, EVERYONE has to have one. This one had avocado and slaw and it wasn't that great and again, why was our food barely warm? This is a first, but be careful with the salt shaker. It either had really big holes, or the salt is extremely fine, because when you shake out salt, about a teaspoon flies out of the shaker which I've never had happen before. Maybe the tops were switched and the salt top should have been on the pepper, but there's nothing you can do once the salt is on your food One plate had a huge amount of fries, and the other plate had a salad that looked substantial and I got a small amount of COLD fries. Fries are one of my favorite things in the world and COLD fries are just not acceptable.....anywhere, I waited about 12 minutes to ask someone to fire another order of fries. While we couldn't flag down our disappearing waitress, I told another waitperson that the fries were never hot and I'd like another order. A few minutes later he arrived and got as close to me as possible and whispered in my ear "I spoke with our manager and another order of fries will be out soon." I guess he didn't want other guests to hear about my request, but it was a bit odd how close he got to me. The new large plate of hot fries arrived very fast and we all shared them since the burger with fries had cold fries, as well. WTF? Finally our original waitress arrived, apologizing profusely about the cold fries and explaining she ordered the kitchen to "drop whatever you're doing and get the order of fries out." We knew it wasn't her fault, but told her we appreciated the speed of the correct order. She tried to comp us dessert, but we really didn't want dessert. When she brought us the check, she said she did comp us the fritters as we didn't want dessert, which was a very nice gesture and we appreciated the free appetizer. BUT, would we go back. No, not ever. This must be a nice place for guests staying at the inn, but a whole bunch of places to eat and as a guest, eating out at another place, even including an Uber of Lyft, would be better and a whole lot less expensive than The Boathouse. $30 for parking...what a rip off after paying for a damn room. AND, not being a guest was almost as expensive, around $25. to park just to eat. No thanks..... read more

The place is very cute! The outdoor dining has a beautiful view and the indoor dining has social distancing. I had the vegetable flatbread and it was delicious (although it did need salt) and perfect for a vegetarian like me! My friend did have an issue with the honey maple glazed salmon and they let her reorder. read more

Absolutely worst service ever on the patio. Took 15 minutes for anyone to even come to my table and ask if I wanted to order a drink or food or anything. Food actually came out pretty quickly... but I ordered a second glass of wine as I was halfway through my meal... and the wine never came. I finished my meal, and am still waiting for the glass of wine. I have time to sit here and do a one star review. So disappointing. read more

We went to dinner at this location hoping it would be a regular option on our restaurant circuit. Our reservation was for 7 pm and the hostess didn't seat us until 20 minutes later. She asked twice if I had a reservation after I informed her we did. We could tell our waiter didn't enjoy his job. He was so lazy. Our order was wrong (no chicken on the Caesar salad) and he didn't apologize when we pointed it out in the bill. The food took 40 minutes and our cocktails were sitting at the bar for a long time that by the time the waiter brought it to us, it had been watered down. The wings and calamari was mediocre and the service was terrible. What a disappointment. Please at least act like you enjoy your job. This waiter said very little to us. My wife and I Had an early afternoon date and we decided to try a new restaurant. We went to the boathouse a new restaurant we loved the ambiance and decor. We ordered a bottle of wine and calamari. The calamari was extremely greasy and we couldn't go forward with the main course.. I actually gave half the bottle of wine to the neighboring patron. We went to Berkeley Boathouse to celebrate a birthday and we had a great time there. The food was excellent and the service is definitely one of the best. The waitress and her helper were friendly, warm and so tentative. Just give you one example of the excellent service that we received yesterday - They adjusted the window shade several times according to the speed of the sunset to leave enough window clearance so we can enjoy the beautiful view of the bay.
