The Berkeley boathouse had a great ambience. Dinner service was absolutely awful. The waitress got my order wrong, and did not even apologize. She then proceeded to blame me for ordering the wrong item on the menu (I ordered the Mahi Mahi fish but she claimed that she heard me say Wagyu????). After she made her claimed and walked away, she turned around and yelled from a distance that my food would be ready in "a little while." Really rude service- I would not recommend this place is you're looking for a nice dinner out. read more

We made reservations and were seated right away. Those that didn't reserve ahead were not so lucky. The host told us that it would take about 15 minutes for the server to take our drink order and she was close to being right. Our server ran and fast walked through the restaurant chaotically attending to costumers that were trying to get his attention. At one point, he was in a heated discussion with a family seated near us. I had the halibut over pea shoots. The food was good but I was dreading the wait for the bill. The giant windows and spacious feel of the restaurant was a nice look but it was hard to see past the poor service. read more

Super cute spot next to the water! My husband and I finally went on a date night, first of many for 2020!.. and we couldn't have had a better time! Actually... we went a little late so we JUST MISSED what looked to be an awesome live 3 man band! (Not sure which nights they have live music, but we went on a Friday.) The restaurant is connected to the Double Tree Hotel, but The Berkeley Boathouse is on the doors to the entrance of the restaurant. If not, you can just slide on over through the hallway. The food was amazing! A good sized tasty Bibb salad with plenty of avocado! Wagyu sliders were a little over powered by the blue cheese, but if you fancy blue cheese you'll love these little guys! Who doesn't love Garlic Truffle Fries? And the Mussels were small but plenty! And the broth I could've sopped up with the bread but I was stuffed! I could've had just the mussels and would have been satisfied! Lobster, Crab, Shrimp, OH MY! Good size roll! I'm salivating while I'm typing this... The bar is huge! And the outdoor area would be perfect once it's warmer weather! I did notice the fire pits so I'm sure that helps during the day. I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu! I had the oxtails, which were done as a noodle dish. Tasty but not what I expected. The meat had been pulled from the bone & mixed with the noodles. The oxtails had been braised properly but there wasn't really much meat in with the noodles. read more

Waste of an amazing location with the current staff and mainly the hostess. She was absolutely the rudest and most condescending person in a customer service role I've ever experienced, for absolutely no reason. We stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks while in between leases and went for an early dinner. After waiting 20 min at the host stand while she took a call, we were scolded for not having a reservation while the restaurant was EMPTY. We experienced a plethora of issues, flat keg, wrong order, check was incorrect. We chalked it up to just a bad night. A few days later, we ordered food for pickup. After being quoted an hour, I went to check. The same hostess said she didn't send me an order confirmation, so why did I even come, and that she had just placed the order so it would be another 20 min. I came back 30min later to be safe and no one had any idea where the order was. Another girl took 15min in the back and came out with a bag. I get back to the room and the order is all wrong and disgustingly cold. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. The service will ruin the view and $30 for soggy fish and chips is not my idea of a nice marina dinner. read more

We arrived early for our hotel check in and the nice lady at the front desk said we could wait in the restaurant bar. We walked right in and sat at the bar and we promptly told the bar did not open for 30 minutes. We said no problem we can wait if it's ok we sit here, the waitress said yes. Two other employees walked by and advised the same but both said we could sit there. Mind you it was 3:05 when we walked in. At 3:26pm (yes we looked at our phone) the bartender shows up and says you can't be in here. We said you open in 4 minutes, he said you need to leave. Rest assured we won't be back. This is an absolute stunning restaurant hidden on the marina. When you get here it's like escaping the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Your mind is eased and relaxing from how beautiful the view is of the bay. Service is good, i can see that post covid it's hard to be fully staffed but you see the staff working hard to take care of you. Food is straightforward but very delicious. The fries are addictive, chicken sandwich is perfect the way it is and do not pass up on the clam chowder. that can be a whole meal for some people. love this place and hope to come back again soon. read more

I came here for Thanksgiving Day dinner and was ripped off. The bill was $135 and I gave the waitress cash for her tip. I signed off for $135 on my credit card and when the charge came through, it was $270 on my bank statement. Also, be careful where you park. If you park in the hotel parking lot, they will charge you $18 when you can park across the street for free. The food was good and tasty. I know it was Thanksgiving, but they charged $42 for turkey which I think is excessive. Because they screwed up the bill, I had to cancel my credit card and have a new card issued. I was here for an event, The Westward Whiskey Tasting Event, at The Berkeley Boathouse which is in the Doubletree Hotel, it was so exciting fun also included all you could learn about the making of The Westward Whiskey, the event was opened to the public of course my hubby bought a ticket so he could come with me, I was lucky enough that they sat him with me, the staff was truly Amazing thank you for a gorgeous event. I had never tried Whiskey however after the lessons I learned from the Westward representative I will take them with me, plus the Limited Edition Westward Whiskey bottle and another bottle look at my pictures, I don't know if I want to open them they are so beautiful also the food pairing with the Westward Whiskey by the chef Matthews Thomas was pure talent of Artistic measures, truly an outstanding talented Chef. The event was truly exceptional, what made it so Amazing was the Restaurant The Boathouse beautifully decorated, they have a gorgeous bar, fireplace and outside seating by the water with fire pit table. Food was so disgusting, I ordered the chicken wings and all except 2 of the chicken wings were not edible. They were a mushy/ fatty/ weird texture. It was nasty. I also got their Mixed Baby Greens salad and also was not appetizing at all. I asked for not prosciutto (I don't eat pork) they gave it to me anyways.. seriously? Service was also horrible and staff members were super rude. Steer clear of this place, it's just not worth it. For the prices you want decent food and the food is just gross. read more

Me and the hubs went on a long bike ride on the Bay Trail this morning, then stopped by The Berkeley Boathouse for some gorgeous views and lunch. We really enjoyed our entertaining server/ magician, Fitz, who informed us that the restaurant does validate parking (per the previous one star reviews). We had a firm event and got a portion of the deck. The food was delicious and the drinks were TOO tasty. Our server was so friendly, polite and professional. She also was very quick with our drink orders, especially for a party of 14! We were able to see the sunset and were kept warm with the firepit and heaters. Deepa was extremely friendly and responsive with all of our coordinating questions and emails. We will be looking to them again for our future events! read more

Amazing, kind, attentive service. My good was excellent/ salmon Oskar- was some of the best cooked salmon I have ever had- cooked perfectly, moist, skin crispy. Ate every bite. The description for this restaurant is completely deceptive. I have no idea what the locally sourced food is supposed to be. I ordered avocado toast for breakfast and the "avocados" were the package type you get from Costco or Walmart. The service was ok. Our server was pleasant but we had to continually ask for refills of coffee and water. The host could have been more helpful to the servers by serving coffee and water. But she just stood at her podium and played on her phone. We ordered and Bloody Mary and it was straight from a mix bottle and it tasted rancid. It was sent back. All in all not a good meal. This restaurant is a part for the Double Tree Inn and there should be more attention to detail. read more

We took our friend to the Berkeley Boathouse for her 82nd birthday and had a lovely Sunday Brunch. We had a bagel with smoked salmon and a burger. The only thing I would change is I found it odd that they served a bagel with raisins in it for the smoked salmon dish. Next time I'll request a plain bagel. Our waiter Jian was wonderful and he even came out with another waiter to sing Happy Birthday to our friend. The cheesecake slice that they brought out to celebrate was amazing and the three of us shared it! Went here because I was staying at the hotel attached. Overall the service was good and the food was average. I think it's good for being a hotel restaurant however I don't think I would return unless I was staying at the hotel. My husband and I were staying at the Double Tree Hilton and the restaurant was the same place we would go to for breakfast as Diamond members. We tried their dinner for the first time and it was decent for seafood options. I enjoyed their seared scallops. It was soft and buttery. I am on keto so I asked our waiter to remove the potatoes and replace it with asparagus, which she kindly did so. The second best one was probably the lobster & shrimp sandwich. Again, being on keto -- I had to remove the bread and asked for lettuce on the side. My husband enjoyed this better than his burger. My husband and myself stayed at th Double Tree in Berkley on 3/13/21 and had the misfortune of eating at The Berkley Boathouse. There is little to no reception in the hotel or lobby, making ordering from Door Dash neary impossible. So off to the Boathouse we went. We were shocked by the limited amount of entrees to choose from (I think it was 4 or 5 options total), but not having many options and starving, we made our decisions. We opted to take our food to go so that we could enjoy it from our balcony in the room. They sat us at the bar so we could place our order with the bartender...unfortunately he was overwhelmed with the 2 other people at the bar and did not acknowledge our presence for over 5 minutes. Not even a "Hi there. I'll be with you in just a moment ". Just crickets for 5 + minutes. Eventually we ordered our hamburger and chicken sandwich and were given a receipt asking for our room number to charge our dinner to the room. I explained that we wanted to pay for our dinner at that time and didn't want to charge it to the room. The bartender was visibly irritated with the request (even though he never gave us the option while ordering), but he did redo the payment option so that we could pay directly at that time. We decided to wait for our food in the hostess/waiting area and were shocked when our food arrived less than 5 minutes after ordering. Off to our room to enjoy or $40 hamburger and chicken sandwich. What a disappointment! I had to spit out the bite of chicken sandwich, as it was rotten. My generous husband offered to give me 1/2 of his hamburger, but we quickly realized that the hamburger was rotten too and their attempts to hide the foul meat with copious amounts of salt had failed. We eventually realized that we had phone reception in our car and were able to order delivery from a local Japanese restaurant and that was fabulous. Bottom line, in my opinion, is if you want to waste $40 on spoiled food and be ignored by restaurant staff, then The Berkley Boathouse is the place for you. I am flabbergasted. I have been to the boathouse a few times over the last year. Food has been solid, but what I really like is the Westward Whiskey - in particular the single malt pinot noir cask whiskey. On the menu it is part of a flight of 3 Westward Whiskeys. When I traveled to Berkeley last spring I ordered just the one whiskey that I preferred, not the flight. No problem. But tonight, after a long day I went in to enjoy a whiskey. The server was confused why I wouldn't want the flight. I had to explain I just wanted the 1- full size, not the flight size. She said she had to ask... She came back saying no. They couldn't pour me a glass of the whiskey I wanted. I have never been in a bar that wouldn't pour anything they had in stock. Most bars that are pouring flights will happily pour you a full glass of what you liked - isn't that kinda the purpose of a flight? #westwardwhiskey read more

A pleasant addition to the Berkeley Marina! The menu is limited in choice (due to reopening after covid) but not limited in taste! Staff was attentive, personable and inviting. I had an aperol spritz as a cocktail before dinner & it was made well, Cudos to the bartender. We ordered the shrimp & crab roll (sandwich) and the beet pastruben (vegetarian sandwich) that comes with a side of perfectly fried French fries. We loved both entrees! Great flavor! I had the pastruben and the pastrami flavor was amazing and I'm not even a vegetarian! Thank you chef. The ambiance was beautiful with great views of the Marina. Our server (if forgot her name sorry) was so sweet! And the manager also made sure to ask how our dinner and evening was.
