I am giving the restaurant a 5 star rating mostly because of the manager Tamisha and the host Dasha. We appreciated the warm greetings and felt like VIP's. Tanisha shared with my husband and I that they had jazz on Sunday nights when we stopped by a few weeks ago. The band was wonderful. My calamari and garlic fries was delicious. My husband ordered the burger but honestly it was not a $19 burger. The burger was a bit generic and didn't have any outstanding qualities to warrant the price. I went here for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. And I ordered turkey, dark meat. They said they didn't have dark meat. which I basically found ridiculous. And then, because of that, I don't eat white meat, I defaulted to the prime rib. It was OK at best. I think I'm more irritated at the fact that they supposedly had a turkey dinner and no dark meat! I should have talked to the manager at that point, but I didn't think of it till later. for the prices, this is not a great restaurant. It's painful to have to write this, but it was even more painful to eat there! My friend and I decided to have a late lunch after having taken a walk along the Berkeley Marina via Caesar Chavez Park. A beautiful Saturday afternoon with a bit too much wind, so we cut it short and decided to take refuge at the Boathouse for their 3:30 seating. Finding the place wasn't easy because it wasn't clear that the restaurant is situated inside the Double Tree motel. However, hungry and persistent we found it and were assured that the otherwise expensive parking would be validated (free) if we ate there. I want to add that I've been dying to try the BB since it opened over a year ago, so today felt like the perfect opportunity had arrived. The menu is fairly conventional and prices are high, but the setting is pretty and we needed to validate that parking ticket. We each ordered Boston Clam Chowder and shared the calamari plate. My friend had a martini that was the best thing about our meal, priced the same as an entree - so it should have been. The chowder was a white roux with small cut potatoes, a few parts of a clam, nothing whole and a very small sprinkling of bacon on top. Wow! No clam favor, nothing that indicated that it was anything more than white sauce - possibly from a bulk can and the barely discernible clam. Shocking, even by motel restaurant standards. There was the requisite dinner roll straight from a grocery store package, which sort of made the insult complete. Our calamari boat, lightly breaded with no discernible spices was totally Meh! The so-called aioli was a weird lavender color, devoid of garlic and sat in a tiny bowl looking like a sad afterthought. Our meal + cocktail added up to nearly $100. without the tip, which brings me to our server. Roger was possibly the best thing about this experience! He was helpful, enthusiastic, asked all the right questions, delivered our food promptly and made an otherwise dismal dinner feel less pathetic. Berkeley is one of the few places on earth where you can find truly terrible food, so should you be inclined to- the Berkeley Boathouse awaits you. read more

Found this Gem on a Monday Night and oh my was it worth it. Our sever great but our hostess is what really made the night spectacular. Miss Dajaha was spectacular! The moment we arrived she greeted us with an amazing smile and recommended multiple places we could visit while vacationing in Berkeley. She was even sweet enough to offer a blanket to us because we were chilly due to being so close to the marina. I noticed her attentiveness towards every single table in the restaurant. I'm in shock from the experience I literally just had at 6:45 p.m. PT on 12/12/22 at the Berkeley Boathouse. My intention was to go to the bar, and have a couple of drinks and an appetizer. Hey, maybe I'd go crazy and have two appetizers. This is how it began... I'm staying at the Doubletree and I was hoping to wrap my evening up here. Had some business in the area this morning, and went to Napa for an early afternoon dinner because I fly out early on Tuesday morning and wanted to have a cocktail and relax before I wound down for the evening. Well, those plans were immediately shut down. I walked to the left side of the bar (closest to the hotel lobby) where I was stopped by a bartender or the hostess (she was the hostess on 12/11/22) and asked, "Were you planning to sit at the bar?" I said, "Yes, that is what I would like to do." The hostess said, "Well, we're busy right now and the bar area is pretty full." Thinking to myself, well, I see at least 2-3 available seats right now on the far side of the bar, but okay. Then immediately the bartender comes back and says, "You can't sit there, someone else is!" Whoa! I was stopped by the hostess as I was heading to the other side and now getting confronted by the bartender. Remind you that this is within a minute of being in this place! I said, "Yeah, I see that someone is, (drink and napkin on the bar). I commented, "I was just stopped by her, I wasn't planning on sitting there." The hostess said, "Well, you can't sit at the bar right now because we're busy and if you want a drink, she can serve you, but you have to sit at a table or you can take it with you!" Me..."Don't worry, I am not going to waste my time here!" Honestly, what a buzz kill! That whole situation could have been handled so differently. I honestly just walked into the bar area. Was I supposed to wait at the front entrance? I don't know, no one was there. I simply wanted to sit at the bar. I would have waited out in the lobby or off to the side, but don't become confrontational when all I was doing was walking around the bar and looking. I honestly was not in the restaurant for more than 30 seconds, just long enough to walk up the stairs and start walking around the bar. Anyway, I left and wouldn't even consider spending my own or my company's dollars at this place! So, I settled for Haagen Dazs and a Diet Coke from the Made Market in the hotel lobby! At least the lady checking me out at the Market remembered me from the night before and was very pleasant, conversational, and acted like she wanted to be there. Can't say that for those two in the Boathouse! If I stay here again, I'll drive around to Skates or somewhere downtown before wasting my time here! read more

I do not recommend this place. I went there and they were out of mussels, the boat house cioppino, and a smoked drink. I should have left at that point. I ordered calamari and it was soggy. I decided to stay and got my food an hour later. We asked for the steak to be medium and it was burnt, we ended up sending it back and not ordering a replacement since the food took an hour to come out and they were not busy. The fettuccini had no flavor and the scallops were over cooked. Save your money and check out other places nearby. This place is too expensive to be this horrible. read more

We fell for it, went and had dinner at the Boathouse, gave them out parking ticket to validate...trying to leave the parking lot we got stuck at the exit machine which would not honor our validation...ended up paying $18.+ And the wine list - not much to chose from, on the web site's questions and answer section it says the corkage fee is a somewhat standard $10. but when you get to the actual menu...$20. As soon as we arrived at the host stand, Dale greeted us with such a high-energy welcome, and we immediately fell in love with the place. Dale was very eager to hear about what we thought about the place and the food, and took notes on our opinions of the dishes. Mely was our server, and she was a sweetheart! And I can't forget to mention Rocelita, who also came by to welcome us and check on us from time to time. Rocelita even had the chef come by to chat with us. Came here because I was looking for full service fish and chips. The prices are what you would expect for a full service hotel restaurant (read: not cheap), but you do get good value for money. The fish was long thick strips of cod, with a side of very crunchy (yet fluffy) fries. There's also the option to upgrade to garlic fries. Both the fish and chips were fried well. The portion was very generous for one person. Service was great. Friendly, attentive, and professional. So I asked the hostess, who was very courteous and helpful if I could order the Double Wagyu Burger with bacon to go. Fifteen minutes later I was on my way back to the room and little did I know I would have one of the best burgers that I've ever had! Highly recommended. I was surprised to find such a nice ambience. The hotel is dated from the outside but it seems to have gotten a face lift. Excellent service from the staff and I imagine the view and patio area are stunning on a sunny day. Ordered the oxtail ragu and it was pretty good. Portions are large! However, the food was on the greasier end (at least for my taste). Would be nice if they added more greens on the side. Our waitress was extremely nice, attentive, and fast. Great place to come for a quick meal or libation. Stars reduced simply because food portions and style wasn't my preference. I think this would be a great place for many. read more

Absolutely Horrid service. Stayed at the hotel for business as I have done in the past. Got a little hungry so I went down to the Boathouse for dinner. The hostess sat me in the bar and I advised her that I do not drink so I would like to sit in the restaurant and away from the noise in the bar area. She gave me the menu and said, -"You can sit wherever you like", I responded and said, "will you seat me", She replied, "Sit wherever you like" and pointed to the restaurant area. So I took the menu and then went to seat near a window. After a while, she came by and said, "You can't sit here, you will have to move to the upper level". After some discussion, she advised that the server will make the decision of whether or not they will serve me near the window in the lower section. Soon after, the manager came and asked me to move so I asked if I could just stay there away from the louder upper area near the bar. He refused, so I walked out. Unfortunately for them, as a Hilton Honors member, I would consider this the poorest level of service that I have ever received at any restaurant and certainly not the type of service anyone would expect from a Hilton affiliated property. I will find dinner elsewhere and make sure to cross this location off my preferred hotels. Sad! read more

Worst burger I've had in a long time. I will say the fries were good, crispy on the outside, fluffy inside and well seasoned. The burger was atrocious. The menu says it's a DOUBLE PATTY WHISKEY WAGYU BURGER with spinach, pecorino, romano, whiskey glaze and french fries for $19. If that was wagyu I'll eat my hat, it was DRY and so over cooked it felt like cafeteria meat. Also, it wasn't seasoned at all. My burger had a about 7 leaves of spinach all on one side, no cheese at all, a ridiculous amount of very sweet "whiskey" barbecue sauce and what I assume was grilled onions. The bun seemed to be a potato bun but was so dry I couldn't eat it. It looked like someone had half attempted to smear some mayo on the bottom bun but it didn't get very far. I did order avocado with it but that didn't happen and luckily wasn't charged for it. This was the end of brunch service so there was only a few groups inside and most seemed to be finishing up. The waitstaff was fast and efficient and very friendly. It's got a lovely view of parked boats and people walking their dogs on the trail so I think next time I'll just have a drink at the bar and order in. read more

Buckle in, I have a lot to say... First of all, I'm only putting 2 stars because thankfully what my bf and I ordered was good, but we didn't order much - just the veggie risotto, caesar salad, and the red wine flight. We booked a reservation for Valentine's Day and unfortunately the only time available was 9pm, which is very late to begin with. We showed up 10 mins early and there were other groups of couples seemingly also waiting around. First, we were told since we had a reservation for 9 that they were aiming to have us be seated by 9:10pm... we actually patiently waited around until 9:30pm to be seated... my bf and I stayed quiet and polite (even after he almost fell asleep in the lobby bc we waited nearly 40mins), but it was totally inappropriate considering we made reservations, it was supposed to be a romantic Valentine's Day evening, and it was very late to begin with. The hostess actually said the reason it took so long to seat us was because I wrote a note on the reservation that said "window seating, if possible" and she wanted to get us that type of seating (seemed like an excuse)... when she sat us it wasn't even beside the window and there were a lotttt of empty tables (including right next to the window where you could just moved the napkins and cutlery over). Ma'am... it's 9:30pm, just sit us anywhere at this point - there weren't any lights outside to see the boats anyway. I saw people with 8:45pm reservations seated way late too - well past 9pm. Seems like they bite off more than they could chew because this was a joke. Maybe they didn't have the staff to accommodate more tables, but there were so many empty ones that why not just get all these couples seated and get us some water instead of waiting in the lobby forever. Why even do reservations? Quite frankly my bf was ready to just leave and go somewhere else, but we decided to get something simple just to eat a little and make the best of the situation so we could get home asap because we were tired and let down. When we first sat down we were given a stack of menus with the "Valentine's Day special menu" on top that was $85 a person - drinks not included except sparkling wine in the very beginning (the special didn't seem worth it after reviewing everything included, but that's just my opinion). Anyways, when the menus were first set down, I had a moment of confusion where I asked the hostess "do we have to do the Valentine's Day menu?" Because I wasn't sure if we got just that and a drink menu and I wanted to quickly ask before she left. She said "ma'am there are three menus in front of you" and walked away. It just came off rude and impersonal... you could have/should have given a 5-10 sec explanation as to what's in front of us to begin with just to make it clear. The food was a little redemption and the waiter was kind and tried his best, but we will not be coming back here because we were overall disappointed. I know the holiday shifts may be stressful, but this was far too disorganized and a bummer of an evening. I'm really wondering if they let in people without reservations too which pushed some of us back? Idk, but if they did, it was a mistake because they couldn't handle it. We took the time to choose this restaurant ahead of time (even though we're a couple cities away) and it's only right that we're taken care of. I assure you overbooking and this level of disorganization will just result in more unhappy customers and bad reviews. A restaurant shouldn't tell you that it'll seat you in a certain amount of time and then have it take 3x as long. It's standard practice to let guests know so they can adjust accordingly. If anything, I recommend trying to come here on a normal day when it's not busy to just to get drinks and something small on the side. I have no comment on the actual dishes (some above $40 and it's a very small menu) since my bf and I were over it and didn't want to spend our money here. He messaged me the next day saying, and I quote, "I want to take you somewhere to make up for the bad restaurant last night" lol. Also wanted to note that the location that the restaurant is pinned online is incorrect. While it is in the hotel, it's not pinned in the main area like it should be so we walked around the whole hotel to find it instead of walking straight through the front of the hotel. Just a bit confusing. All I have to say is, I wish y'all the best and hopefully you can figure it out because there's some potential with some more organization and staff training. read more

Stayed at the Doubletree a week ago. Was in town for Cal vs ASU football game (bye bye pac 12). The 3 stars are an average of two dining experiences, one dinner the other breakfast. Friday night dinner was pretty good. The restaurant was surprisingly not busy. In fact there were only a couple of other tables seated in our area. This may have been due to the relatively early dining time...we came directly from the airport with no lunch. No doubt the ambiance is remarkable. The view, location...can't be beat. Our server Mele was fantastic. Friendly, and funny. I had the oxtail ragu, and my wife had the pepperoni flatbread. Both were good. As others have noted the oxtail was a little greasy, but that is kind of what i expect from oxtail so I don't see that as a criticism. Based upon dinner I would give 4 stars. But then breakfast. I can't remember our servers name but he was also friendly and attentive. We however are not high maintenance diners. We don't get our knickers all in a twist if staff fail to recognize us for the king and queen that some diners think they are and expect to be treated as such. Some reviewers need to get over themselves. Every perceived slight doesn't need a star docked. Having said that we now get to the food for breakfast. I ordered eggs Benedict and my wife had a waffle with berries. Well...the eggs Benedict themselves were very good. The roasted potatoes that came with them were the most beautiful golden, crispy looking, potatoes! But they were not even hot! There is NO WAY these were not pre cooked and rewarmed. You could not get that beautiful crust and not be hot if they were cooked just before serving. How disappointing! They just weren't that good. They looked like "10's" but were merely "2's". Next were the waffles. They looked like eggo waffles. My wife said they weren't much better than eggo's either. Maybe they were, I don't know. I hate reviewers that state unequivocally they were "obviously frozen" or not "fresh" or not "local" or not "organic" or whatever, as if they are the final authority on everything culinary. You don't know! You can only review your opinion as you see it. Well for whatever reason, we found the breakfast to be less than desirable. So for breakfast we award 2 stars, bringing the average to 3. All in all, I would come again if I found myself staying at the Doubletree. I would not however probably come again for a stand alone sought out location to eat, unless I wanted that view and ambiance as my priority, which is not to be minimized, but in my opinion does not trump all. read more

By far this place has one of the worst service. We were seated, then an African server came to take our order. He didn't bother greeting us at all.
