Went this past Easter Sunday for brunch. It was not typically busy, and the view was absolutely beautiful! Let me tell you though, I hope the health department can review this location! We sat down , and had our meals given to us, not only were the staff unorganized but they did not seem like they knew what they were doing. One staff member was waving around knives next to one of our family member head, another was rushing us and forgetting drinks. The food itself I give 0 stars.. we were given our first plate of either Cesar salad or clam chowder. And literally ALLL of the Cesar salad has LIVE bugs. One was crawling on the actual plate, and the others were in the salad crawling around. At one point I grabbed different plates to inspect them and they all had bugs. It's absolutely disgusting and when we told the manager she was very nonchalant about this. I attached a video and photos. After I had the salmon for dinner and I only had a few bites since I wasn't very sure it was sanitary enough to eat...thanks, we won't be back again read more

The spot is amazing and so is the view; but the food and service is terrible. My friend ordered a sandwich and after 20 minutes we were wondering what was taking so long. Turns out the waiter (the guy we ordered inside from) didn't "receive" her order and made her show her receipt in order for him to actually go get it. I came here once long ago and sat inside for snacks and cocktails. It was a quiet hotel bar vibe but the service was somewhat slow. Recently during pandemic, in light of this being a close to home location and offering outdoor dining, I have come here twice. I do appreciate their heaters and outdoor seating with a nice view of the marina. The food is also good and makes up for what they lack in service. Service however is consistently bad. It was slow pre pandemic. Recently, the first outdoor experience I had here was AWFUL. After being seated we were completely forgotten about. We sat and waited so long that I went in to get someone to help us and even then things were horribly slow and confused. We ultimately did get service and food and thought we wouldn't ever return. I did wind up returning with another friend to try outdoor dining here a second time, primarily due to location convenience and outdoor seating availability. The food was good. The host was nice and seated us quickly. But then, the rest of the service was slow as usual. Not as bad as last time so I suppose there was some improvement. Came here for dinner on a very busy night so maybe that was part of the reason for the below average food but overall it was just nothing spectacular or stand out especially for the price. The garlic fries were the only redeeming part about this meal. We spent $26 on the charcuterie which although was good, it was not worth the price at all. You would not be able to share that with more than 3 people. We got the oxtail pasta, there was maybe 2/3 small chunks of meat and the pasta itself was hard. The crab roll was served on a cold french roll and lacked flavor. On top of this we only saw ONE server the entire night and she was handling multiple tables including big parties. Her service was great despite her being visibly busy and stressed. Hopefully with the prices you charge you'd be able to hire another server and not have so much stress on one! read more

We stopped by during Berkeley Restaurant Week Togo to check out this place. I had been drooling over their photos for a long time and just needed to finally try it myself! During this time there was no indoor dining due to the pandemic. Their system is to walk in, view the menu and then order everything at the bar. If you order a cocktail they hand it right to you otherwise you head out to the patio to wait for your food. The food it brought right to your table in togo containers and you can continue to enjoy on the patio, enjoy elsewhere on the property or even leave. For BRWtogo they offered 2 special menu items on top of their limited takeout menu. One was a Salmon sandwich with vegetable risotto and I believe the other was a chicken breast sandwich. Well the people I brought with me are very picky eaters and were not loving the menu items. Although the vegetable risotto side on the salmon sandwich did catch their eye. We asked the bartender if they were able to order just the risotto and he said no. Ok odd but we respected it and moved on. That is until the people directly after us asked the same thing and he said yes!!! Why would they be able to and not us? Very odd and left not such a great taste in our mouths. What we did end up ordering was a charcuterie board, cobb salad, and a shrimp and crab roll. No of these were impressive. The charcuterie board had buttered and 1/4 toasted pieaces of texas toast, no jam or anything sweet and the cheese was just ok. Plus there was supposed to be prosciutto and instead we just got double ham. It was not as advertised. The cobb salad we asked for no bacon, blue cheese and dressing on the side but the bartender told us not to worry because it all came separate and you could add or not add what you want. Well it all came premixed. The shrimp and crab roll was the best thing we ate but it wasn't something we would order again. On the up side we did order 2 cocktails. A Malibu sunrise and a tequila sunrise. These were the highlight of the meal and the reason they get 2 stars. The Malibu sunrise was so good we were all fighting over the last sip! read more

Made reservations for The Berkeley Boathouse to try it out. We were expecting a nice view and good seafood. They placed us in the middle of the restaurant when there were not many other diners and the view we got was the top of a boat. We had the Cobb salad with shrimp and and burger with salmon. Both the shrimp and salmon were undercooked. The service was accommodating, but it took a lot of repeating for the orders to be understood. Both my husband and I got stomach aches. Will not be returning as it was mediocre at best and made us sick. Maybe brunch has the better chefs? read more

Amongst our arrival it was sort of confusing on what to do and when to go to each designated area. We were told to wait outside the restaurant but then asked to go inside to look at the menu. However when we were inside other people were coming in behind us and not asked to wait. Then once you decide what you want from the menu you move to another area to order from the bartender. Currently there is only a very limited menu. One of the options was risotto and salmon. I asked for just the risotto but was told this was not an option. However the people who ordered behind me got exactly that! I feel like picking and choosing who can order what is very unprofessional. I'm a vegetarian so there were not many other options for me on the menu. I ended up getting the Cobb salad but you can't ask for anything to be left off. I was told it all came in separate containers so it would be ok. This is not what happened. Everything was tossed in the salad when I got it meaning the bacon was included in there. This threw me off and then I had to pick around the bacon. The bartender seemed just very short and abrupt when interacting with me, I did not feel welcomed at all. Stayed at the hotel a few days and ate here a few nights. The restaurant has a few seating options to pick from - more casual seating to the right, a big bar area and tabletop seating indoors or outdoors. If coming with a group, I'd recommend making a reservation to be safe, but your should be good during the week. Food options are limited but vary in price from $15-40 an entree. Tried the Mahi Mahi one night and was impressed. It's a good size portion for one person but is also splittable if you're not starving. The other night, me and friend came and split the burger and the fried chicken sandwich for dinner. The fried chicken sandwich is made with thigh meat so it tender and juicy. Both are good and I'd order them again. The restaurant was slightly better than expected for a hotel restaurant and the view of the Berkeley marina during set set is really nice. read more

I brought a group of friends to Easter Brunch at the Berkeley Boathouse Restaurant. It was very busy, as you might expect on Easter. The restaurant seemed understaffed but the wait staff worked hard and they were very helpful and very pleasant in spite of it all. Do you think a buffet might be a better option on such a busy holiday? My omelet was excellent. They were willing to substitute fruit for potatoes which I greatly appreciated. One friend thought the potatoes were greasy. Others liked the menu items they ordered. We would have loved the option of having the Boathouse seafood roll. Those watching their carbs would have liked a few low carb options on the menu like a salad or grilled vegetables. The ambiance was splendid. It was a sunny day and being by the marina was lovely. We just celebrated my sister's birthday at this restaurant yesterday. This place offers waterfront view, nice ambience, superb service, delicious food and good live music. Shout out to few of the waiter/servers like Roger and Chanh. Roger was our main waiter. He went above and beyond by explaining to us what's in the menus, taking our orders correctly, putting up the umbrellas to block the bright sunlight, and had us settled down comfortably. The picture he assisted taking of our family turned out so beautiful. He even made his own dessert by decorating a bowl of ice cream with freshly baked cookies, strawberries and drizzled with chocolate syrup. It is hard to find a passionate employee like him. Bravo to him. We cheer and vote for him to be employee of the month. Well deserved with his great service. read more

I had the Akaushi Wagyu Flat Iron Steak, which was delicious and I also enjoyed the Monkey Business 15 cocktail, which I thought was pretty good. It's painful to have to write this, but it was even more painful to eat there! My friend and I decided to have a late lunch after having taken a walk along the Berkeley Marina via Caesar Chavez Park. A beautiful Saturday afternoon with a bit too much wind, so we cut it short and decided to take refuge at the Boathouse for their 3:30 seating. Finding the place wasn't easy because it wasn't clear that the restaurant is situated inside the Double Tree motel. However, hungry and persistent we found it and were assured that the otherwise expensive parking would be validated (free) if we ate there. I want to add that I've been dying to try the BB since it opened over a year ago, so today felt like the perfect opportunity had arrived. The menu is fairly conventional and prices are high, but the setting is pretty and we needed to validate that parking ticket. We each ordered Boston Clam Chowder and shared the calamari plate. My friend had a martini that was the best thing about our meal, priced the same as an entree - so it should have been. The chowder was a white roux with small cut potatoes, a few parts of a clam, nothing whole and a very small sprinkling of bacon on top. Wow! No clam favor, nothing that indicated that it was anything more than white sauce - possibly from a bulk can and the barely discernible clam. Shocking, even by motel restaurant standards. There was the requisite dinner roll straight from a grocery store package, which sort of made the insult complete. Our calamari boat, lightly breaded with no discernible spices was totally Meh! The so-called aioli was a weird lavender color, devoid of garlic and sat in a tiny bowl looking like a sad afterthought. Our meal + cocktail added up to nearly $100. without the tip, which brings me to our server. Roger was possibly the best thing about this experience! He was helpful, enthusiastic, asked all the right questions, delivered our food promptly and made an otherwise dismal dinner feel less pathetic. Berkeley is one of the few places on earth where you can find truly terrible food, so should you be inclined to- the Berkeley Boathouse awaits you. read more

The sun is setting and there are at least ten kites flying all in a row in the park. I can see them from my score of a seat at the Boathouse, right by the fireplace. Countless sailboat masts sway in the breeze, and I'm comfy cozy inside next to this live jazz band with a delicious Mezcal Tamarind cocktail. What a treat for a last minute hot date with my babe, literally to satisfy a fish and chips craving and make this lovely weekend last as long as possible. My expectations of restaurants attached to hotels are low. The Berkeley Boathouse exceeds expectations. The fish and chips are solid--fresh cod in a solid beer-batter, going for a solid Belgian style French fry. Food arrived hot and timely. What would take this dish to the next level: a tiny bit more time in The fryer. Just barely. Like, I'm so stoked it arrived hot and def had not sat under the heat lamps that I hesitate to say anything. But another 60-90 seconds in the oil would take these potatoes to dangerous addictive and add a depth to the fish that would be unforgettable. Definitely coming back here to try more. I want to spend a brunch on that patio looking at the boats. And there are several dinner entrées I need to judge. Worth it alone for the great cocktails, rad view, and stylish atmosphere. The restaurant wasn't busy but there was a line of 12 people waiting to get seated. The staff was rude and incompetent, not only to us but to other guests in line. One hotel guest was trying to order food and the hostess told her they didn't have time to help her. The manager was just as rude as the hostess. I worked in the hospitality industry for many years and was appalled at the attitudes of the staff. I can't tell you how the food was because the whole situation was so infuriating that we walked out. We were guests of the Hilton Marina Doubletree, but after our experience at the hotel restaurant, we will not be staying there again. read more

This is one of my favorite places in the East Bay. I've been dining here for years. Spectacular views though the food is average. The reason for my less than stellar rating is that we visited yesterday and after I let the hostess know 1) we did not have a reservation 2) we were not staying at the hotel (we are local) I was told that there was no patio seating available. It didn't look crowded, but the hostess told me 8-10 parties had reservations, and all would be seated outside, which was about 50% occupied at 5:30 pm. She also couldn't guarantee a window seat inside even though it was 10% occupied. It was stuffy inside, and after 20 minutes or so, I noticed the patio remained 50% occupied. There were also a dozen open seats at the outside counter. One of the main reasons I visit the Berkeley Boathouse and have recommended it to my friends and colleagues is the magnificent view from the patio. So I mentioned to our server that should any of those reservations cancel, we'd like to be first in line for a spot outdoors. The staff was gracious and promptly seated us on the patio without hesitation, which was about 30% occupied by the time we left. So, none of those reservations showed up, and I felt slighted by the experience. No one wants to treated like a second class customer, which we were. I'd imagine any family dining out would notice the same things I did, which prompted me to write this review. The waitstaff was attentive, so this is not a reflection on them, but the hostess was either misinformed and/or the reservation system is clearly flawed. read more

I do not recommend this place. I went there and they were out of mussels, the boat house cioppino, and a smoked drink. I should have left at that point. I ordered calamari and it was soggy. I decided to stay and got my food an hour later. We asked for the steak to be medium and it was burnt, we ended up sending it back and not ordering a replacement since the food took an hour to come out and they were not busy. The fettuccini had no flavor and the scallops were over cooked. Save your money and check out other places nearby. This place is too expensive to be this horrible. read more

Our server checked on us one time to tell us our drinks should be up soon and then we never saw her again. We asked what looked to be a manager of the restaurant to check in on our food and she looked confused and then walked off, searching for our server. Ultimately, we bailed entirely and left money on our table for our sparkling water. I wouldn't be surprised if the order was never placed. I walked towards a different direction and ended up next to a hotel adjacent to the Berkeley Boathouse. There is an outdoor patio that is pet friendly. Inside the restaurant, it's reminiscent of Skates and His Lordships. I had a good time and will return. I noticed a Hornblower as well. I am giving the restaurant a 5 star rating mostly because of the manager Tamisha and the host Dasha. We appreciated the warm greetings and felt like VIP's. Tanisha shared with my husband and I that they had jazz on Sunday nights when we stopped by a few weeks ago. The band was wonderful. My calamari and garlic fries was delicious. My husband ordered the burger but honestly it was not a $19 burger. The burger was a bit generic and didn't have any outstanding qualities to warrant the price. I went here for Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. And I ordered turkey, dark meat. They said they didn't have dark meat. which I basically found ridiculous. And then, because of that, I don't eat white meat, I defaulted to the prime rib. It was OK at best. I think I'm more irritated at the fact that they supposedly had a turkey dinner and no dark meat! I should have talked to the manager at that point, but I didn't think of it till later. for the prices, this is not a great restaurant. There are much better ones around, and the only reason we went here was because it was Thanksgiving and they were open. read more

Beautiful restaurant with spectacular views. Husband took me here on our anniversary for dinner. We ordered the seared scallops, seared salmon, corn soup (seasonal), and the calamari appetizer. Everything we ordered was phenomenal! Highly recommend everything we ordered, the food did not disappoint and was all high quality! By far, our favorite was the seared scallops. They were very fresh and melt in your mouth. Haven't had any better scallops! The portions were the perfect amount for us, and we left dinner pretty stuffed. Typically, for us, when we dine in at similar restaurants we leave a bit hungry, but that wasn't the case for here. Of course, we ordered dessert which was the cherry on top. We ordered a creme brûlée trio. The flavors were chocolate mocha, lemon, and ginger. They were all delicious, but my personal favorite was the lemon! I am actually not a huge fan of creme brûlée in general but theirs changed my mind. The texture, taste, and sweetness was just right! Hospitality was amazing. They checked in on us on a regular basis, asked if we enjoyed the food, offered to take pictures for us, etc. Thanks to the staff, and special thanks to Sadia, for all the warm hospitality! Ok first off, good is decent. Not bad or delicious, it ok. My GF said her crab sandwich was a bit salty but i was "ok" with my Halibut. Would be eat here again? Probably not. What would typically be a 1-1.5 hour Wednesday night dinner, it was 3 1/2 hours!!! 6pm dinner reservations but didn't get seated for 1 hour. Then asked for glasses of water and some wine to start, water came 40 minutes later. Wine, about 1 hour. Food came out about 45 min after ordering. Food was warmish. Not freshly hot, like it's probably been sitting for awhile. THEN when we asked for the bill, another 40-45 minutes AND we had a chase down our waitress who was actually at the damn Bar , bartending!!!!! These staff are definitely overworked and need some help. Short handed staff is unfortunate but thats not a customer's problem. Understanding, sure we were patient but didnt think we would be leaving the restaurant after 9:30pm. A group next to us was also frustrated but very much more vocal. Another lady who was also waiting for her bill, lost her mind and when ape Sh*t when the waiter dropped her card on the floor. We were all eating in the outdoor patio on wood plank decking. The lady's CC fell to the floor perfectly in-between the wood planks and into the Bay!!! Fcccck! We left and didnt see outcome but she was heated, who wouldnt be? Oh, it definitely took a lot on effort for us to find someone from restaurant to sign off our validated parking too. Terrible experience for mediocre food. read more
