I visit my mom twice a week. We go out different places around the SY Valley for lunch. We have been here numerous times and the food and service are OK. We were here earlier this week. My mom ordered a cappuccino and the waitress was acting oddly about ordering it. She said it's just a pod, not that good etc., mom ordered anyway. It came and was a third of the glass full, foam for another third. I thought to say something but didn't. My mom said it indeed was awful and ordered a coke instead a few minutes later. The bill came and she was charged for both. Mom told the waitress who called over the manager. The manager said she'd "done this before", said she drank half of the drink them wanted her money back. Accused her flat out of stealing!They refused to refund her. After returning home, I vaguely remembered this did happen. Mom returned the drink cause it wasn't good. I think the waitress remembered us and the situation and tried to warn us off. Why didn't she tell us , remember, this happened before, are you sure you want the drink? Our party of 5 was out n about, celebrating and we sure started off in the right place! We were feeling quite peckish after our 3 hour drive out to Solvang and we wanted to grab a bite to eat. The Belgian Cafe grabbed our attention because all the servers were wearing pretty cute, traditionally themed uniforms. The outdoor seating was also spaced out decently and there were some empty tables in comparison to the other eateries close by. We were seated and had our orders taken immediately. Our server was very friendly and as we were eating, we realized that they were closing, but we were not rushed at all. We got the: 1) Onion Rings: -Came with a side of ranch -Small-ish order of onions rings -Exterior crispy, interior wasn't too stringy. Decent onion rings 2) World's Fair Sensation Waffles(I chose sliced bananas): -Waffles were only slightly chewy, so not the best Belgian waffles that I've had -Fruit was fresh, lots of whipped cream, pretty filling. -Not bad, but I've had better at standard American diners 3) Crepes La Reine: -Actually a bit disappointing. It came out lukewarm. -The sauce just tasted like what you'd get on top of a chicken steak. There was a decent amount of mushrooms though. -Also came with a small serving of fruit. 4) Solvang Burger: -It says it comes on a French roll, but honestly it looked like a hamburger banh mi (made the entire table crack out in laughter). -It was kinda mid to be honest, but my bro was hungry so he just took it. Obviously since this is a tourist town, the prices were a bit high altogether. This place was recommended to us by a local shop owner and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Travelers Special waffle and the Denver omelette. The waffle was so light and perfect! Service was great, and it was very fast. We went in a weekday, so it didn't seem too crowded. They do have outdoor seating available as well if you prefer that. read more

We visited this place on a Monday morning the day after Christmas. We ordered 1 rib eye and egg, 1 egg benedict, 2 coffee and 1 Danish sausage. The overall experience was positive, although there were pros and cons which we discuss below. Pros : The egg benedict was soft and tasteful. The rib eye and eggs were also cooked perfectly ( medium well + scrambled) and tasted great. We tried a classic Danish pork sausage and highly recommend it. In addition, the coffee was magical, although one may think that is is the most mundane part of the experience. We asked for refill and even got more to-go. Our server, Diana, was amazing and really courteous. She constantly checked on us to see if we needed anything. Cons: The wait time for this place is very long -- although this seems to be a theme in Solvang during Christmas. It took them 50 minutes to seat us somewhere outside. We did not like our table, since it was directly under the sun and highly exposed to people walking in the street. Although we requested to be seated in other empty tables which were better positioned, our request was declined. Our requested tables were still empty for quite a long time. Overall, this is a great place to hang out and eat tasteful local brunch/breakfast meals. But be prepared for the long wait time. read more

Yooooo what the actual frick bro I was getting the munchies and wanted something light to eat in anticipation i was going to get dessert at a different place within Solvang. I originally was going to order the club but for some reason i got a weird craving for some caesar salad. i decided to add the chicken for the protein..... my bf ended up getting the solvang burger boy was this an experience! so first off i got a lemonade, my lord. SOUR. i literally scrunched up my WHOLE face... like i'm talking face muscles i probably didn't even have scrunched up from how sour this lemonade was. i asked the waitress for some sugar packets to help with the sourness, but it literally did not do anything. i ended up just stealing some of my bf's water for dilution. Caesar salad...can't really mess up a salad. i think my mistake was adding the chicken. it was extremely DRY, also tasted a little rubbery? if that makes sense... just my tongue pallet definitely did not enjoy this chicken. next the solvang burger.... it came with fruit and fries which was nice and even a carrot that was cut into an oddly pretty shape, i didn't take a photo sadly. Was requested to be medium, it came out well done. it's different that's for sure, not your american burger obviously. the fries were so and so, you can taste that they been freezer burned. i just covered the taste with extreme ketchup. the fruit tasted like they tried to prevent the apple from browning by squirting lemon onto it. it ended up seeping into the watermelon slice as well. honestly the only thing good was probably the carrot stick from the plate. i never had quite an experience like this as far as quality of food, but my bf and i just laughed it off for the most part. i wouldn't recommend this place read more

For the price, I'd expect a slightly elevated Denny's, but the quality here actually beats typical brunch spots by a mile. Took around 15 minutes for a party of two. Being one of few popular cafes in a tourist hotspot, the wait was understandable. Staff are courteous and vivacious, despite the volume of patrons. For COVID safety purposes, seating is outdoor-only and socially-distanced, and all servers wear masks. Tables are thoroughly sanitized between diners. HEMINGWAY BENEDICT: Simple and satisfying. Smoked salmon slices were pretty generous, laid atop nicely toasted English muffins. Great hollandaise sauce. Nothing to complain about. CHOCOLATE MOUSSE WAFFLE: LOVED the fresh whipped cream! I'm not usually one to have a sweet breakfast, but I couldn't resist the fact that it was house-made. My husband and I had lunch here one day while we were vacationing in Solvang. They have outdoor seating and are super pet friendly so our puppers was with us! He even got to sit on one of the chairs next to us :) I think The Belgian Cafe is owned by the same people who own Paula's Pancake House so some of the items on the menu are the same for both locations. We decided to get the Stars and Stripes Waffle, which has strawberries, whipped cream, and blueberries. We also got an order of the Solvang Danish sausage and eggs. The waffles were amazing! I love Belgian waffles! They are light, airy, and crispy on the outside. It was so good with the fresh fruit! Absolutely delicious! We had the sausage and egg dish at Paula's prior and we liked it! In my opinion, it's like a theme restaurant you go to when you're in Solvang- kind of like going to a restaurant in Disneyland. The sausage was okay- it tasted like a normal breakfast sausage at a brunch place (maybe a little bigger) but it wasn't anything to write home about. The strawberry crepe bottom was all soggy. My Benedict crepes with eggs and salmon (I asked to substitute ham with salmon) with hollandaise on top were mouthwatering as well! We stopped in Solvang just to check out the town for a few hours. Very cool little town with lots of shops and restaurants. Stopped in at the Belgian Cafe. We were seated immediately and the restaurant was not crowded but had a brisk stream of customers. I had the Travelers Combo. A Belgian waffle with eggs and sausage. I chose the Danish sausage which was good but I could have used more seasoning. Maybe that's the nature of the sausage? The waffle was great but I wouldn't expect less from a restaurant that specializes in waffles! I plan on coming back to Solvang and would come back here for a meal! read more
