Omg best food around. Mac and cheese to D. I. E. for. If you o let go there once I strongly suggest trying it.

Stopped by the Bayou for my second adventure today, found out they were running a brunch to benefit a Lymphoma charity. Sounds cool, fixed price $35, 2 courses, limited menu.... lets do it. We sat down around 11:35 and were greeted warmly and promptly. I asked for water, my wife asked for a Mimosa (complimentary) and a hot tea (never received nor mentioned again). We placed our order, and relaxed for the wait. It felt like forever, as our friends who placed an order a bit ahead of us didn't get their food for quite some time, but we waited for our food. Our friends got their food after about 20 minutes of us being there, and we recieved ours after about 30 minutes. Normally I'm not a huge bag of... richards..... about this, but when our apps were a Green Garlic Soup and a Watermelon Salad, it kinda makes you wonder whats going on. The menu was small to begin with, not to mention our apps were SUPER simple to execute. My salad lacked a component (Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette, one of the 5 ingredients on the description), and really felt elementary. Not to say it was bad, just.... completely.... underwhelming.... My wife's soup was not bad, although once again a bit underwhelming. Missing enough garnish, but it was creamy and hot. Our entrées came out after another good wait, and looked like they had some promise. I got the Bayou Benedict, and my wife got their Brisket Hash. First off, my poached eggs were poached pretty hard. Not that runny yolky madness you look for in brunch food. My maple sausage was borderline burnt, as was my wife's brisket. Too high a flat top? Too busy a chef? Who knows the causality, but regardless, the food suffered a bit. The lone saving grace of my plate was a green tomato relish, which was acidic and vibrant... a really nice touch to an otherwise so so dish. The kitchen from our table has their exposed main doorway, which in today's case was a huge detriment. You could literally see the lack of progress, and the punctuaged pace of their kitchen. Entrees came out in 2 or 3 plate spurts, but then it seemed like people just checked out and stopped prepping for a few minutes. Really an odd feeling when the majority of people in the dining room seem to have eaten, and there really isnt much else going on. The front of the house did their thing, and aside from an MIA tea, did a pretty good job. Back of the house not so much. So-so food, long waits, huge gaps in service. Now granted, yall might say it was a special event and they were off their game. I would normally agree, but as I mentioned earlier this was my second time. My first time was culinarily just as rough, but a bit quicker in service times. Cucumber Kimchee with barely a hint of its korean inspiration, lackluster mac and cheese, and a nearly inedible scallion butter for their hushpuppies (which were actuzlly pretty good, albeit a bit greasy on the bottom. It seems like the Bayou is going through a rough opening, but hopefully with some critique and discipline in the kitchen, this flub will pass and we can enjoy the good southern food we are all after. God knows there are a trillion less critical people in the valley to keep this place hopping through a hopeful transition. read more

Thanks for the 9:30 reservation and no contact while sitting outside until 10:30. Left for Lehigh Pizza instead. Not even a visit from a manager for an explanation. Many tables with after dinner drinkers with no push from management to go to the bar to drink instead of taking up a good turnover rate. John Taffer would be pissed. read more

My date and I went there last night, it was the first time there for the both of us. We had a reservation, (highly suggested!) and when we got there the place was packed, our table was not quite ready, no problem, we were seated within five minutes. Our food was excellent, nice portions and very, very good! I had one of their signature cocktails, Bourbon and Berries, off the charts great! My date had a few of their specialty beers and really enjoyed them (I'm not a beer drinker so I can't really expound on that) The service took the cake though! Our server Mary, was like an old friend we hadn't seen in awhile. She offered great suggestions, was very friendly and provided exceptional service. Will request her next time, although it appears the entire staff is awesome. The General Manager, Kevin, came by our table to check how everything was and talk to us about our visit. He then mentioned that they also had an outside dining area and proceeded to take us out there and give us a tour of it. Very nice gentleman and it's obvious he really cares about his customers experience. They definitely earned repeat customers!! Mary and Kevin both thanked us several times for coming, great customer service!!!! Do yourself a favor and check this place out!! read more

Dog friendly deck. They provided water for our pups. The staff were extremely attentive and courteous. The food is great, well cooked, and had lots of flavor. Only disappointment was they didn't have the braised beef cheeks I really wanted to try. We ate the steamed clams, the collard greens, brisket po boy, and fried chicken with sweet potatoes and spicy pickles. I'll come back to try beef cheeks. read more

The Bayou, wonderful ambiance. Small narrow setup, clean, and well decorated. The servers provided excellent service. They were both very friendly and knowledgable. Food- If you are looking for a true Cajun menu and flavors, you will be disappointed. Raised down south and in New Orleans couple times a year our entire life, we expected to see basic Bayou options on the menu like Jambalaya and Etouffee, but we were happy to see the Gumbo, Fried Catfish, and Fried Chicken. We ordered: *Gumbo Shrimp & Andouille- 1 star rating * Not one grain of rice, Not one Shrimp, Not one piece of Andouille sausage, nor okra in our bowl. It was almost as if the Gumbo went from a blender to our bowl. Watered down flavor. * Ty's Mac & Cheese- 3 star rating House Ham Hock, Aged Cheddar, Fontina, Sweet Peas * Loved the presentation- arrived in an individual serving hot skillet. Dish was still sizzling, looked scrumptious! * Flavors of the cheese was wonderful, but the dish was missing the HamHock flavor. * Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Sweet Mash (sweet potato)- 3 star rating * Also loved the presentation of this dish. It was nicely Presented on a cutting board Sweet mash, Chicken, and Pickles * Fried chicken individually I would give 4 stars. Flavor, crust, and crunch were spot on. The cook was a little on the dark side * Sweet Mash- 1 star rating Flavor spot on, but room temperature ruined the overall dish * Amount of food served = to $ - 4 star rating * Blue Bayou Beverage- 5 star * excellent On the fence if I would pay Bayou another visit. read more

I had a confusing experience here, so I really don't get the hype. My husband and I walked in around 7pm on a weeknight. I get it, dinner time, no reservation, might have to wait on a table. The hostess told us we'd have to wait two hours...even though half of the tables were empty. Okay, no problem, we were immediately seated at the bar, sweet. Oddly enough, I felt like we were ushered to the bar because we didn't have that local look, but that's purely speculation on my part. The bar reeked of bleach; I give them an A+ for cleanliness but the smell was unappealing as a diner. The two bartenders were friendly, but we could hear their chatter/gossip the entire time we were there. We ordered a couple of drinks, the fried chicken dinner, and the BBQ shrimp and grits. But I love love love shrimp and grits, so I was practically dancing waiting for these things to come to the bar. Boom. Drinks arrive, I don't remember either drink being good or bad. Food arrives. Both the fried chicken and shrimp and grits were well plated. My husband and I both tried each dish and are in 100% agreement here: The fried chicken was outstanding, sincerely one of the best pieces of fried chicken either of us have ever had. The sides were meh for the chicken. I believe it was mashed sweet potatoes and bread and butter pickles - together entirely too sweet for our tastes. On to the shrimp and grits. The prawns were large (probably U-8 or U-10 sized), well cooked, and heavily seasoned. The seasoning had too much salt, and that statement is rarely made by me. The point of no return were those grits. The old adage "don't order grits north of the Mason-Dixon line" is a solid truth here. The texture was all wrong, and the grits solidified after sitting uneaten for 10 minutes. The bartenders never checked up on us, and I tried everything short of snapping my fingers to get her attention after I took one bite of my grits, but neither came to the rescue. At the end of the meal, one of the bartenders cleared both of our plates and said nothing of the grit jello missing two bites. We paid for it because I hate being those people, but I wish she would have checked in on us so I could have tried a more appealing dish. 2/5 stars for excellent fried chicken and beautiful atmosphere (sans bleach scent). Oh, I forgot to mention, all of those tables that were 'reserved' in the dining room sat vacant for the hour we were there. I think a little FOH training is in order, a majority of my complaints could have been resolved. I'm currently leaning 'no' as a return customer. I'll update this review if I revisit. read more

Stopped for Sunday lunch. Perfect for a bright early spring afternoon at a bar/bistro. Rustic exposed used brick walls and distressed wood floors juxtapositioned against sleek lighting, handsome U-shaped bar. Many seating options: leather sectional lounge with ottomons upfront, high tops and tables. Nice vibe/music, 2 flat panels for sports. Kira, my bartender, made a kick-ass Bloody Mary: olives, thick bacon, cornichon, cocktail onions, a pepper - a great mix. Had a really "spot-on" shrimp and andouille gumbo (gumbos may change daily). The outside patio is really special: contemporary gas-fired heat lanterns, water feature, pergola, sophisticated landscaping. They have some tweaking to do (don't we all) - but I see Christian and Mo are responsive to feedback on Yelp, and very hard working. This place will only further refine with time. Thanks guys. read more

It was a Monday night and it was slow. I worked in kitchens and restaurants for years. Anyways I went in with 4 people. We all ordered and the food was ok but our one friends never got her food. We were all sharing with her so she could at least eat with us. when we were all done the server said the food was coming out soon and our friend asked for it in a to go box and opted to just order dessert since we were done with our dinners anyway. Well her food comes out and we ask for a box again. We ask for dessert and it's a super rich dried out piece of chocolate cake with fluff on top.. like a super cheap marshmallow top... not impressed read more

We were looking forward to trying out this restaurant after seeing all of these reviews. Unfortunately, our party of four was not welcome. It is apparant that this restaurant only wants to serve large parties, as they only accept reservations for parties of 6 of more. Our party of four got to the restaurant early (5 PM), expecting to have to wait for a table. We were told that a table would not be available until 9 PM, despite the fact that the restaurant was empty, and tables were set for parties of 4 or parties of 2. The hostess indicated that we could have called and spoken to the manager to ask for a reservation, maybe they would have accomodated us. While standing in the parking lot deciding where to go for dinner instead, several other parties entered the restaurant and left, in the same plight. I just don't understand why restaurants don't take reservations. It's frustrating, and because of this policy, I won't be returning anytime soon. It's just bad business. Luckily, we went to a wonderful restaurant in downtown Bethelehem that was willing to accomodate our party. That restaurant I WILL be returning to! read more

This was my third visit to The Bayou. FINALLY, it was a good experience. I'm not sure if it took them awhile to get into the swing of things or what, but they've definitely improved. I'm glad. Quality restaurants are hard to find in the Lehigh Valley. Especially any that focus on any type of Southern food. It's great we finally have one. The first time I went, I was with my boyfriend and, while the server was nice, the service was incredibly slow. I'm not talking slow as in a few minutes, I'm talking the kind of slow where you sit down and no one acknowledges your existence for a good 20 minutes (that is not an over exaggeration). Considering it was brand new, we gave it the benefit of the doubt and stayed. The entire time we were there, our service was just as slow. My bf's burger was not cooked to order. There was no apology from ANY of the staff, including the owners who were chatting with their friends and other patrons at the bar. I saw our server explain the situation to one of the owners and you'd think they'd walk over to apologize. Wrong! No one said anything to us. I didn't want to eat before my bf so I waited for his meal to arrive. When it FINALLY returned, mine was obviously cold. It took entirely too long. I understand it was busy, but they should have at least offered an apology or explanation. The food was mediocre at best and the service was terrible. I vowed to never go back. Ah, but then, my friend had a birthday dinner there. Sure enough, the service was just as slow. Everyone at our table noticed. We were debating on leaving but stuck it out. This time, the food was delicious which made up for the slow service. I don't understand why no one checked in on us. We could have at least put in some drink orders or something but instead we were basically neglected. Third time's a charm? My sister wanted to go there for dinner. The service was great and the food was delicious. Most dishes were overly salty which I've come to expect when eating out. Other than that they were tasty. Maybe it just took a few months for them to get into the groove...but they've found it. I'm happy I gave it yet another chance. A couple of things to note: -The gumbo is amazing. Try it. -Be prepared to hang out for awhile. The service isn't fast enough to get in and out if you have somewhere to be. -The cocktails are tasty. Consider just hanging at the bar having some apps and drinks! read more

So, I usually do not write reviews, but..... Had a late lunch at The Bayou today (4th time I have eaten here and it has always been good) and the experience was much less than expected. First, we had to ask for a server to come and take our drink order. We waited about 15-20 minutes. The people all around us were being served and waited on. Our table was being completely bypassed. Finally, I stopped someone and asked if we had a server. The young lady replied that they must have missed us and that they had tunnel vision??? WHAT! All in all we waited close to 1/2 an hour for 2 club sodas and 2 waters. Second, I was with my three children (two of which are younger). It was a Sunday treat after a sports game. They ordered the Chicken and Waffles off the brunch menu. I realize this is my fault for not reading closely; but it would have been nice if the description on the menu and/or the waitress would have mentioned that the dish was spicy and topped with Jalapeno's seeing that my two younger children were ordering it. Total for the two chicken and waffles was 36.00 and my children did not eat it because it was too spicy. Third, I had the oyster po boy sandwich; the oysters were not great, they tasted bad (not spoiled just bad) (and I love oysters). So, our lunch total with a 20% tip was over $100.00. If I am paying that much for lunch, for my three children and myself, I expect a little more in the terms of service and quality of food. Don't know if we will be back. read more

I will definitely come back here for the cocktails, food was outstanding! Service great ambiance a little loud and crowded on Friday nights but overall really fun read more

We ate on the patio and it was a really nice vibe. The lighting and the plants made it feel cozy and reminiscent of NOLA. We ordered the skillet cornbread and the peach salad to start. Both were tasty - the skillet cornbread has crisp edges and onion-y flavor. The peach salad was SUPER light on the peaches. A few paper thin slices of peach were more like a garnish. It had a few crumbles of goat cheese and the candied bacon was really yummy. Great flavor combo but could use more peach and more goat cheese. The star of the meal was mac n cheese. Best I've ever had - and I've had Beecher's in NYC. I will dream about this mac n cheese - so rich and flavorful. We also had the beignets - yum. SO FULL read more

This review went from a 3 to a 4, in the last 5 minutes of my visit. This place is jumping, I sat at the bar, as the dinning room is small. I hop everyone who goes takes care of this bartender( sorry didn't get here's name). She was solo, making drinks, taking orders, and still being plesant! I had the hush puppies and pork belly. My hush puppies were a tad too dark for my taste, but still ate half of them;). The pork belly was eh... I have never had it before, so I have no comparison. As I was getting by bill, the manager asked how my food was, I said the hush puppies were a little dark... Without hesitation he took them off the bill. Very impressed with the staff, but the food is....OK best read more

I was so excited to try this new Restaurant and support the local business, but by the time we have gotten there. The service took forever!!!! The best Brisket Po Boy sandwich I have ever had. Review from my 11 yr old. Redfish, fried chicken, BBQ shrimp also all very tasty.

I had high hopes based on reviews here and would have given 2 stars but the food was very tasty. We stopped for a very early dinner on a Thursday afternoon around 3pm. The first thing I noticed was a loud group having a holiday party. The lack of soft surfaces including curtains makes this place very loud and during our visit it was close to empty! We were told to pick a table along the wall; my husband and I both sat facing the bar as otherwise we would have seen right into the kitchen. Second noise issue was the kitchen was playing a radio and there was music in the dining room; so it was very frustrating to listen to two different stations. (Kitchen did turn it off at one point near the end of our visit) We ordered the salmon, a sausage special, the Mac and cheese and the fried chicken based on reviews. (For 3 people) The prices were good for the quality of food but considering the other issues we had with our experience we will not be back. There was a hostess "hanging out" on her phone the whole time at the hostess stand. The manager we guess was "hanging out" as well...he finally asked about how things were while we were on dessert. (The kitchen radio was off at this point so we said fine). Now the part the sealed the deal; chef came out to get water at the bar and he looked dirty and his chef coat had cut off sleeves. UGH. After getting his drink a few minutes later we hear from the kitchen the F BOMB. We had our 13 yr old daughter with us and how unprofessional. I wanted to tell the manager and my husband said to let it go. Our bill was $100 with tip and at those rates it's not just about the food! Atmosphere killed this experience for us. read more

The Bayou - The salmon - New American Near Me - Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

We loved everything we ate, and were especially impressed with the side orders. The flash fried black eyed peas wowed us with their lemony freshness and crunch. The sweet potatoes were better than any I've ever had, as was the creamed corn. The creamed corn was bright, fresh, light and sweet. Entrees were all delicious as well - one had fried chicken, another had BBQ shrimp and a third had an oyster po boy. The jalapeno margarita was also absolutely delicious - very spicy and refreshing. Well done y'all, I can't wait to eat there again! read more

Simply put, The Bayou is amazing! Their spin on southern cuisine is awesome. My boyfriend and I have been there quite a few times and have never had anything less than a great experience, from the food, to the drinks, to the service. We took my boyfriends mom here last night, and she loved it as well. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Bethlehem. I've read some of the other reviews and I think some of them are quite harsh. I was there the first week that it was open and I never would have thought they had only been open a few days. I think having everything in perfect order when opening a new restaurant is impossible, but the staff at The Bayou did a great job, and continue to impress. Well done! read more

Dinner on the patio was not only pleasing for the eyes, but definitely the taste buds! I got Tyler's Mac & Cheese and I was in food heaven! So flavorful and tasty!! Our table also shared the Buttermilk Fried Chicken (they were very cool about sharing plates) and agreed that it is the best in the area, hands down. After dinner, the owner walked around to chat briefly with each table and make sure everything was to our liking. Not only does this place remind me of NOLA, it is a great spot to eat and hang out with friends...and it's right in Bethlehem! Couldn't be happier! read more

Came in for the first time. The dining room was nearly empty. We waited at the door for about five minutes before we were even noticed or seated. Once seated, it took at least another five minutes to be greeted by a server, who then told us she would be with us in a few. By the time we actually ordered our drinks we had considered just going somewhere else because we felt as though the server couldn't care less that we were there. The food was alright, nothing really blew us away. We were pretty sure the fried green tomatoes that come with the oxtail were prepackaged, frozen; judging by the breading. The cornbread was pretty good. We have no plans on returning here. P.s. beer should probably not be served in a mason jar unless it's pbr. read more

This is a great place but the only downfall was a lot of young adults. College aged. Screaming and yelling so having a peaceful lunch was tough. I understand the game was on but this isn't a sports bar. Other patrons are there for the great food. Also playing football in the street outside wasn't good. Almost hit someone coming around the corner. The whole idea of the Bayou is fantastic. Drinks on point. Great staff. read more

Awesome food, awesome service and this place never disappoints. Had dinner there last night and everything from cocktails through dinner were fantastic. First, Melissa was super attentive and took great care of us. Great server, not overwhelming but right on top of everything. The cocktails were delicious, we ordered the jalapeño margarita and the new fashioned and they were excellent. My mother in law ordered the shrimp toast and we grudgingly went along. I had no idea what it was and was amazed how delicious it was. Loaded with shrimp, sauce, gravy and flavor that you put over toasted bread. The staff should sell this one in hard. Our dinners ranged from fried chicken, brisket, chicken sandwich, crab cakes and Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious, hot when served and tasted and presented like the last time we were there. Consistency is king in the restaurant business and that it was I like about Bayou. Can't wait to go back. read more

Nothing about it really blew my mind. The food was just average. It took a long time to be seated even with a reservation. In addition it took a while for the food to come out. It is a small place and very loud. It seems as if they are trying to decide if they are a restaurant or a party bar. Overall I would not recommend it or come back. read more

Save your money. Cook at home. Food is eatable but was expecting much more....Not going back.

My fiance and I went to the Bayou for dinner on Saturday, April 19. On Thursday, my fiance attempted to call the Bayou to set up a reservation. He tried to call several times but each time, the phone number would not work. So, the website says they can take reservations via e-mail. He set up a reservation via e-mail, go a confirmation e-mail, then, when we got to to the Bayou last night, they did not have our reservation on their list. The hostesses were not very welcoming. They acted like we were causing a problem, even after my fiance showed them the reservation e-mails on his phone. I felt as if the hostess should have been apologetic, as this was their error, not ours obviously, since we had the proof, however, I could sense an "attitude" like we had done something wrong. They looked around for several minutes, trying to decide where to sit us. They finally sat us at a high-top table that they were leaning against (using almost as a hostess stand) right next to the door. At first this spot seemed okay. It was warm enough out, so when the door opened, it wasn't too bad, but I could see how this could be a problem when the temperature is cold outside. However, as the night got busier and busier, our table was surrounded by people waiting for tables. So much that we couldn't even see the TV or our waitress. Our plates of food sat at our table for a long time because the waitress literally could not get to us. It would honestly be helpful if there was a place for waiting customers to sit, instead of waiting in the actual restaurant, surrounding the tables of the customers who are eating. Some of these waiting people were SO CLOSE to my meal, I was starting to get really uncomfortable. This being said, the food we ordered was excellent. We shared the Mac and Cheese as an appetizer. My fiance got the Shrimp Po Boy, which came with some delicious real potato fries. I got the BBQ Chicken thighs with a side of the sweet potato mash. The sweet potatoes were amazing! We really liked the food, so it was sad that our actual dining experience was not good, or else, I honestly would have rated it higher. The Bayou is cozy and comfortable. The bar had tons of beers on tap. We both just ordered water. We loved how the drinks came out in a Mason Jar glass. The tables are really spaced apart well, so in normal circumstances, you do not feel like you are sitting on top of others. There is also a really cool outdoor area to eat. We definitely will check that out next time. read more

First of all, I'm not a great social media person but I need to yelp this place bc I want to remember the name so we can return over & over again! Easily the best Cajun cuisine. I have been to NOLA & this restaurant has outdone any restaurant I've been to in NOLA. Outstanding!!! Prices were reasonable for the generous portions of food. We literally cleaned every single plate. One big tip, make a reservation bc it is a popular spot & very obvious why. We heard several people leaving after their meal saying "that was so good", including us. We will be back!! Thank you for a wonderful meal. read more

So my girlfriend and I just tried the Bayou and lets just say I'm super impressed. From the service to the decor to the food; super well done. There are some minor things that made me rate it a four instead of a five and I will explain in detail what they are. But first let's be honest, no restaurant is really ever going to get a five unless they give me a back massage with my entree. Service: the service was not only incredibly kind but also extremely knowledgable. I can't tell you how many times I have been to restaurants and asked my server a question and they look at me like I'm asking them to solve time travel in ten minutes. When it comes to service its all about the smile and every person was wearing one from the second we stepped through the door and when we had to lug our overstuffed bellies out of it. The food: truly most important part in my opinion. Let's just say it was spectacular. But I'm not saying that there could have been some changes which would have risen this place to a five in my book. We ordered the Mac and cheese and it was mind blowing. It had robust flavor, creaminess, and of course CHEESE!! We both ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, playing it safe but still a good first solid choice. The meat was tender and juicy, the breeding was sort of dry and clumped in some places but still finger licking good. I really wish they had some type of dipping sauce to go with the chicken. It is funny that a gentleman next to us asked his server the exact same question. We also ordered the beignets, my favorite pastry of powdered, cloudy goodness. Unfortunately, one of them wasn't cooked all the way through. There was also enough powdered sugar on each beignet to cover the inventory of a bakery for two months. Don't worry, I don't mind that at all. Overall I truly recommend this place if you want to sit down and have some good eats. Just make sure you get seated away from the television as it sort of distracts from the person(people) you are with in my opinion. Also having the food network playing while I'm waiting for my food is a slow torture, but I will forgive you for it. read more

All I can say is AMAZING!! This place is always our go to place because we are NEVER disappointed. The valley lacks places that provide the ambiance and quality of food that the Bayou possesses. Their small plates are perfect for sharing and oh so tasty!! Their sandwiches - all I can say is finger licking good - we always have a tough time choosing which one! The friend chix sand and brisket po boy are our go to favorites!! The mixed salad with a side of charred shrimp is making my mouth water as I type this review. The drinks are always made with love and hit the spot!! The back patio provides a relaxing, welcoming outdoor oasis, you won't want to leave!! The owners are hands down the friendliest, professional, caring people I have ever met. Their managers are top notch along with the entire serving staff and kitchen crew. Bravo, Bayou, bravo!!! read more

Update: Not sure if they changed the recipe but the fried chicken hasn't been on par with out first visit. Seems like they removed some spice from the breading and it has made the chicken rather bland. I'm hoping they got back to have more spice in the breading, it was soooo good!!! Amazing fried chicken w/ mashed sweet potato. Decent beer selection. Casual environment, but a bit on the small side. They do have outdoor seating, but we did not try it. Very minor downside is that the there are only single-use restrooms and there was a line at times. Did not explore the menu much but will likely return! read more
