Bayou Cuban
Joe F.

How have not been here yet?? Stopped in for lunch on a random Tuesday. The place was open all to me and a cute older couple at the bar. I had one of the most unique and yummy Cubans I've ever had. It was huge and the sauce was amazing. The bread was perfect and the bit of N'arlens flair was evident and perfect! The fries were great too and the service was spot on. I'll be back with friends when I can put a proper dent into their menu.

Oh my! Delicious! We shared the Fried Catfish with Collard greens with maple and rice. The catfish was cooked perfectly. The greens were delicious, with lots of flavor. The rice was good, a little spice for me, but he didn't think it was spicy at all. We ordered a side of the Brussels Spouts, absolutely delicious! Also, ordered a side of the cornbread, the best I've ever had. Cute little place, off the beaten path. They were kind enough to lower the radio. The waitress was friendly and attentive. If I didn't live 1.5 hours away, I definitely would be visiting a lot. We rated it a 5 star which we don't give out that much!

My wife and I wound up a Bayou because our first two choices were closed due to the new year holiday. This was our first time here. We were greeted quickly and were seated immediately. The atmosphere is very cozy and has that southern feel as the name implies. Our waitress (Ques) was absolutely fabulous! She gave us suggestions on menu items and took our drink orders. I had a blue Bayou (delish) and my wife had the voodoo juice (also wonderful). Our appetizer was fried green tomatoes that were amazing. The two entrees were crispy catfish for myself and the spare ribs for the wife. Sides were collard greens, dirty rice, corn bread and hoppin John's. I have to say, everything came out in a timely manner and was absolutely awesome! We couldn't say enough how glad we were to wind up here by chance. Ques is by far, one of the best servers we've met. Instead of telling you how good the food and service is, try it for yourself and hopefully you will agree that this is a great place. One regret! I didn't try the Hushpuppies!! I'll be back for them. Thank you Bayou and a bigger thank you to Ques for making a great place even better.

I'll start by saying that the ambiance and vibe of The Bayou was wonderful. I ate at the bar around 5:00 and it wasn't busy yet. The bartender and wait staff were great. I ordered the shrimp po' boy with fries and the po' boy was really disappointing. It seemed as though they had run out of shrimp in the kitchen. As pictured, there was a sparsely arranged single layer of small shrimp on the bread. I probably got a sample of shrimp in about every other bite I took of the sandwich. And the shrimp were so over cooked that they had the pull of beef jerky. The sub roll that was used in the sandwich was great though! The fries served with the po' boy were delicious!

Delicious meal again last night at The Bayou. Our kids enjoyed delicious mac n cheese and apple slices (could be more apple). I enjoyed the Nashville hot chicken sandwich with deliciously seasoned fries and the sweet mash casserole was devoured by all of us. My Hubby enjoyed his jambalaya and i enjoyed the bites he shared with me. Our waitress was happy to offer suggestions and was running her butt off all night. Can't wait to come back!!

Stopped back again during our annual exploration trip to Allentown and Bethlehem and Bayou is always on our list for great eats. With a dog we love that we can sit in a covered cool outdoor area to enjoy the delicious food. The staff was so enamored with our dog that it made it like coming home again. For this trip around, we decided to focus on appetizers and drinks and these are some of our staples. The fried green tomatoes are always 100% outrageous the white wine clams again 100% outrageous every time this time we tried something new the cast iron pierogies and I'm glad we did. It was so tasty and everything is so beautifully plated . For our beverages, my wife ordered the best drink ever the jalapeño margarita if I wasn't driving a long trip home I certainly could've put two down myself, but I would've been down on the ground and out for the count so she enjoyed that I had a beer and there were so many beer options to choose from it's great that they offer tastings. Be sure to see our scrumptious food photos and don't blame me if you drool on your iPhone while you're looking at this in

Ask the Community - The Bayou

Does the restaurant have a full bar?

Yes they do.

Are there Happy Hour food specials and what are the Happy Hour hours?

I am not sure as we visited for lunch.

Do you offer gluten free options?

You'd have to ask. They have a lot of fried food, which likely isn't gluten free, but they do have some salads, gumbo, jambalaya, and oxtail that might be.

FYI - I am from NYC. I've been to Jamaica, all over.. from home-cooked meals to resort/restaurant…read morefood... I love Jamaican cuisine. I came to Bethlehem PA to visit a few brothers. I wanted them to get out the box and find me some good food that is not from a pizzeria, WaWa's, GIANT Supermarket, etc. We settled on....... JAMAICAN! "Yes!", I thought. But, tbh, I wasn't expecting much out here. But boy, I was proven wrong with Cherry's Caribbean Palace: - Curry Goat: Soft, tender, hearty, healthy meat. It was cooked perfect. Not gamy or chewy, but exactly what you'd expect when you think curry goat. Perfect, mild, yellow, Jamaican curry style flavor. - Curry Chicken: You know Cherry's is authentic by how to they chop up the chicken. Bones and meat - it's not a thoughtless dish. You have to work at it, but so worth it. Doesn't seem like it's those hormone-pumped, farm raised chicken. Again with perfect, mild, Jamaican curry flavor. Not too spicy at all. - Jerk Chicken: Fire, in the traditional island jerk sense. Made a few of us sweat. Healthy, meaty portions. Skin was perfectly cooked with the jerk. It wasn't falling apart, like other places. - Jerk Pork: It's jerk, but you can taste the Jamaican pork, 'bbq' aspect, if you know what I mean. It has a, imo, a bit of tangy hint. Which is why I rate it Delicious. - The beef patties: oh man, the beef patties. The ground meat inside was not liquified (think pizzeria beef patties), and it wasn't dry crumbs (think supermarket fast food beef patties). It was top notch. You can tell because Cherry's cook their beef patties with a little slit/hole on the top of the patty (I assume they do this because they know how they want to cook the meat inside). Frickin' loved the beef patties. - Oxtail: the meat itself was quality; not full of ligaments or fatty parts. It wasn't dry and overcooked. It was perfectly made. And the sauce, ooh, the sauce. It's not like how other restaurants would use the same kind of base & spices, but at Cherry's, they have a specific oxtail sauce that is distinct, and quite lovely. - Everything came with rice and peas (great consistency, soft, but not watery or clumpy), perfect balance for all the spicy entrees above. - Everything came with cooked cabbage (fresh, crunchy, and not slimy) - Everything came with sweet plantains (ripe & sweet with a little tinge) Call ahead to order! Much better to work with them direct - not Uber eats! They are good people. When picking up. The gentlemen let us know that they'd bring the food out to our car. It might look like a 'hole in the wall' (no offense), BUT IT'S THE REALEST FOOD. It made me and my boys' stomachs very happy. Thank you Cherry's.. we're definitely going to be a good, repeat customer.

We were seated right away in an open format atmosphere with the best balance of light and dark. The bar across from us looked fantastic. What we noticed right from the start is how well the staff works with and for each other to bring guests the best dining experience possible. Maddie was our server. She was kind, professional, patient, and knowledgable about both food and drink on a grand scale. Her recommendations were stellar. I had a refreshing gin and basil martini as well as their beef carpaccio, which was absolutely fantastic. My girlfriend started with their beef stew, which was thick and satisfying. It was so delicious, she almost canceled her entree to have more. She went with the home cooking route and indulged in their meatloaf with green beans and mashed potatoes. Although she loved that as well, half had to come home with her, which made for an excellent lunch the next day. I went with the raw of it all and got their spectacular tuna tartare with asparagus, radish, and rice. Usually, the tuna is cut into strips but this tremendous block of gorgeous fish knocked me out. Absolutely fantastic from presentation to flavor. For dessert, we got their brownie with ice cream and this was all upper level in taste and texture. I would be shocked if their ice cream hadn't been made in-house. We loved our first experience with Apollo and we look forward to our next visit, which is hopefully sooner than later.

Thank goodness we planned some flexibility after the meal before our show started. But the real downer of the meal was Alison. Wouldn't go back.

On our way home after skiing, the fam decided to stop in for breakfast. Good thing we arrived a little bit before 11:00 a.m., because Within 20 minutes of us being seated, there was already a 20 min wait outside for a table! I like the Ambiance of the inside restaurant, fireplace with a cauldron right by the entrance is a nice touch. That being said, the restaurant is really toasty! I had heard about Cracker Barrel for years, and this visit did not disappoint. Two in our ordered the steak and eggs. One steak was overdone more than medium rare, but the other one was cooked perfectly medium rare. Guess due to the volume they can't manage it perfectly. My sunny side up eggs for my sandwich was a little undercooked, as the egg white was still clear and runny. Seems like things that were cooked in butter, possibly overcast iron or baked, we're cooked perfectly, as our pancakes and biscuits were both cooked perfectly. No burnt edges, but toasty and delicious. They even served real maple syrup, and offered us refills on our coffees and soft drinks without even asking. Little peg game on table is signature gimmick, which kept the kiddos busy trying to figure out the puzzle. I rather enjoyed shopping while waiting for my order to come by, as I found a number of items on super sale, ranging from 25% to 70% discounted. Joined their rewards program and already earned a reward. Overall, staff were friendly (Yani was our server). Hopefully will be back if we're in the area again!

Anyway, when we arrived Winston's looks like a brownstone type of home that has a restaurant occupying the first floor. We happened to find a parking space right in front - go us! Street parking seemed to be scarce. The food is excellent. The most authentic tasting Jamaican cuisine I have had in a long time. It's evident they know what they're doing in the kitchen! I ordered the curry chicken with rice/peas and cabbage. Also, a side of macaroni and cheese, which was freshly bubbling out of the oven. We eat with our eyes first, right? I could not resist! And it did not disappoint, at all. Plenty cheesy and gooey while flavorful, too. The curry chicken packed a delicious punch of flavor with each bite as it fell off of the bone. The cabbage, my favorite, shredded into perfect slices and a little spicy kick, perfectly combined with the few potatoes and carrots included with it. The rice/peas was delightful as well. A great meal! By the time we were ready to exit, the service had become much 'friendlier'. However, it is not lost on me that it's only because the owner, Mr. Winston himself, came in and greeted us. Unfortunately, there was a strong cold draft at floor level, leaving our feet uncomfortably cold throughout the meal. The hostess was sweet and greeted us with a smile. The food service was unremarkable. Our waiter was not particularly friendly nor personable. The drinks were a weak start. The red sangria was poor. The bourbon cocktail was an odd mix of bourbon, apple cider, and other elements--an awkward, Frankenstein-style whiskey sour that simply didn't work. Worst of all, both drinks were served in thin plastic cups, which immediately cheapened the entire experience. I ordered the falafel sandwich and specifically requested a toasted bun. It arrived not just room temperature, but cold. I sent it back, and it returned burning hot... the bottom soggy... literally too hot to pick up... with no browning or color change, clearly microwaved. Microwaving is not toasting. At that point, the sandwich was inedible. I removed the bun entirely and ate just the falafel, which was dry and largely tasteless. At this point I knew coming back to this restaurant was a mistake. Food timing was another issue. The dishes took roughly 45 minutes to arrive after the drinks, possibly longer. We were all getting annoyed and what started out well when we first walked in turned negative. I wasn't impressed on my first visit years ago... and this second visit confirmed it. Between the poor drinks, cheap plastic cups, ridiculously long wait (with no explanation nor apology), and careless food execution, there's no reason to return.
