Friendly staff with great food. No BS, nothing super fancy. Just great wholesome breakfast. Will be back.

Now named "The Basic". Stopped for a quick breakfast and felt compelled to write a review. If you want proper, friendly, quick and attentive service, I would highly recommend this place. No pretensions, no "too cool for school" attitude. Prices were reasonable, food was delicious and came out quickly. But, most of all - the service was GREAT!! Delicious eggs and bacon. Not fancy but a great spot for breakfast.

Went to Joe's Grill for the first time today. My family had been there before and they recommended it for lunch. My mother just had a coffee and my Aunt had an omelette. I already had brunch so i just ordered a Clam Chowder Soup. My Aunt's omelette was very oily so she used some napkins to soak it up, but the portion seemed good. My Clam Chowder arrived and it looked like a vegetable soup. My mother explained to me that Clam Chowder can sometimes be a red soup. I didn't know that and there was no mention of it on the menu. I took a few scoops of the soup and it was very salty. The clams were also very fishy. All in all the soup wasn't editable for me and i had only 2-3 bites. My mother was disappointed and told the waitress, hey doesn't enjoy the soup, its too salty he can't eat it. The waitress just said "ok" and walked away. Later the bill came and my Aunt saw the soup on it for 6 dollars. She spoke with the waitress in a nice way saying, "hey i don't think this is fair, he can't eat the soup, i don't believe he should pay for it". She replied in a very rude way saying "you can't order something and not pay for it" and was laughing at my Aunt and said a few more rude comments. Eventually she just walked away. My Aunt then requested to speak with the manager where she replied and said, "I am the manager". We couldn't believe it. My Aunt said "for 6 dollars your going to lose us as customers and you think its fair we should pay for something we can't eat?" again the manager just replied saying "Then don't tip me" and walked away. I didn't want a scene, by now everyone was looking. I paid the bill with no tip and so for $6 dollars Joe's Grill will never get any of my family and friend's business. Catching a brunch spot on a weekend early afternoon is always difficult - but on the Sunday we strolled into Joe's the never ending brunch search was a different shade of annoying! Everywhere on Main was packed and Joe's was definitely not our first choice. But perhaps it should have been - we were seated relatively fast and the staff were friendly and attentive despite being full to capacity with a line out of the door. My pancakes were good. I order pancakes everywhere I go in search of the greatest pancakes - these were good but not the best I've ever had. All in all - it's a solid spot for a bite for brunch, just be prepared to wait or be surrounded by lots of people. read more

My first time here a couple days ago for breakfast. I saw some reviews and had to go try this place. Of course I had breakfast at Bons a few days before at $2.99 which is hard to beat. The service was very good, all the servers were smiling and of course made me feel good too. The place is not big but was cozy. We ordered the standard 2 eggs with bacon or sausage. I had the sausage and they were done just right, crispy outside. The bread was quite good although I can only eat 1 slice. I decided on getting some fruit and it was a pretty good fruit bowl, the potatoes were OK, most of these places like to serve hash that is like pan fried potatoes, I miss the crispy hash browns that the old diners used to serve. All in all a good experience, price is reasonable, coffee and service good. Next time, I want to try some of the bigger breakfast combo's looks like they had fancier stuff that I missed! read more

Love this place! Nothing fancy just really good diner food. My gauge for trying new breakfast places are pancakes and these are worthy of a return visit. Coffee is descent which can make or break a good breakfast. read more

Service was excellent and quick, just like a breakfast joint should be. The waitress was able to sit us down immediately on a Sunday morning, which I think is quite impressive; it shows how quick they were at serving their customers. I had ordered the Eggs Benedict, and this was the first time the hollandaise sauce tasted like citrus and cayanne, slightly different from all the other breakfast places. Very tasty. read more

Diner food! Family-run vibe. First come first serve. Always full when we go for brunch on the weekends. I typically go for one of their combo plates that comes with French toast or pancakes with eggs. My husband has worked down the list lol. It's not anything fancy, creative, over the top. It's homey and what you'd expect. I like it. Service is usually quick to get your order in & food out but you do need to wave people down for refills. There are usually only about two servers for the spot. read more

I've given Joe's Grill multiple chances to get it right, but still can't give it more than a tepid 2/5. The service is fine, the coffee is average and plentiful, and the menu offers a lot of variety. However, Joe's suffers from the same problem as so many other brunch places: cheap ingredients and favouring quantity over quality. The menu items are interesting, but for the price they are asking, I would want something better than cheap orange cheddar and pale tomatoes in my waffle sandwich. Hoping that Joe's would redeem itself with a sweet breakfast item, last time I ordered the special French toast with fruit compote. The compote turned out to be the same syrupy, corn-starch-thickened blueberries from a can that you could get at Denny's for half the price. Sorry, Joe's, you fail to impress. read more

What? Another Joe's Grill? This location used to be home to The Well, but they closed down to make way for another Joe's Grill. Vancouver's local family chain adding it's fourth location on Main St. Why do they always open locations that have metered parking near by, but a good walk for free parking. What I like about this place is the patio cause you don't get much patio restaurants in Vancouver. The inside of this restaurant looks very clean, repainted, and they even have some of the art works recycled from The Well. Today, my friend and I got messy and order The Mess. It's literally a mess of breakfast food chopped, diced and sautéed all together in a heavenly breakfast. Hash, eggs, sausages, bacon, ham, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and cheddar cheese. All this and drizzle some of their house made hot sauce, awww so good! Service was excellent! She came all the right times, refilled the coffees, and didn't need to ask for the bill. Felt like a basic diner breakfast today a la Joe's Grill. Unfortunately I felt like the food has gone downhill. I ordered the waffle combo today and the sausages had a hint of rancidity to it, my sunnyside up eggs were watery (runny yolks, yes supposed to be but watery whites usually indicates old) and the fruit was watersoaked and soft. Love Joe's and this newest location continues to deliver what a good diner breakfast should be. Perfectly soft boiled eggs, a nice thick slice of ham, crispy pan fried potatoes and rye toast. Joe's best ingredient for me always is the special in house made hot sauce. I try to never go more than a week without Joe's. read more

Had the two eggs anyways and hashbrowns. Each was bland and some of the potatoes were either mushy and 1/2 cooked. My friend had quesadilla and the waiter insisted salsa was not served with it (but it's on the menu). Not impressed. read more

We came in for breakfast (two people) and ordered two basic breakfasts. We got our food 25 minutes after ordering! and there were maybe 3 more tables in the place that didn't get their food yet, so not very busy - a couple of eggs, toast, potatoes and sausages should not take more than 10 minutes to make and they should not cost $7+. On top of that, some people who ordered way after us, got their food before us. Simple drip coffee for $2.50? Seriously? total rip off. I will not come back. There are much nicer places on Main st. with better food and faster service. read more

Good solid well priced (I. e. pretty cheap) spot for breakfast. Good variety of egg styles Benny etc. waffles, pancakes and such. Nicely located near Main and 12th. What's not to like? Not much but they could try real maple syrup, even for an extra charge. Oh and the service was pleasant and quick. read more

Looking for a great diner in Vancouver? Look no further! Joe's Grill on 4th has always been my favourite brunch spot. Now, that there is one open closer to me it is a huge bonus! Really dig the new location and the fact that they have a patio! :) I always get the "Basic" and everything comes out just right. Eggs are cooked to perfection and potatoes are always just lightly fried with perfect seasoning. This chef knows how to make a mean breakfast plate! Stopped in for lunch. We tried the beef dip; served on some type of hot dog bun. Very undesirable. Quesadilla which was served with slivers of beef just like what was served in the beef deep. Both had a strange after taste. We both ordered fries and admittedly agreed they were the best part of our order and delicious. Having endured two horrible lunch items - I would only go back to try their breakfast items. Which looked 100 times better then our lunches. LOVE this place. Our server was so friendly and helpful and she recommended the Veggie Hash, which my friend and I both enjoyed immensely. It came with toast too, which we were both thrilled about and they had good options (sourdough and rye, YES). It's cheap too, but the quality is great. Their brunch is amazing. I've been here twice with some friends on a weekend around 12 for brunch. The brunch rush had slowed down by then so we got a table right away. There first time I came I got eggs benedict and the second time the blueberry pancakes. The pancakes were awesome. They're so big and fluffy and there are loads of blueberries in them. The portions are big and you could share with somebody and still be stuffed. This is one of our new go to places for weekend brunch! read more

I can't resist a piece of buttery sour-dough toast! It's good if you're looking for a old fashion fry up . I was impressed with their service as we went in on a public holiday and it was packed. We didn't really wait long for a table and their food and drink times were really good. The food is decent and the prices are good . So we will be back for an occasional brunch. Today we were asked to hurry up and pay, after about 40 minutes, while I was still finishing my beverage, because other people were waiting. When I asked for an apology I got excuses and blame. I always come here for brunch and I am never disappointed. The food is great and the prices are reasonable. It's a cozy place and they have a cute little patio. The servers are friendly and usually come around lots to refill your coffees and waters. My go-to brunch is a Bacon and Eggs Benny but they did have a special one day on the Salmon and Cream Cheese Benny. I was kind of torn between the two so the server offered me to have 1 of each. I was stoked that they were able to do this for me, I think I was only charged a $1 more or something. Both bennys were delish. I hate going to brunch places where you pay the extra for egg whites only, and your omelette comes back half the size because they took out the yolks but didn't make up for it in more egg whites. Was seated quite quickly, however waited for 15 minutes with no menus no acknowledgement. Watched the server take the order and menus from the table beside us then walked the menus over to the shelf rather than hand them to us. Decided to leave and wished them a good day to which they replied "thanks you too" read more
