Brunch miracles do exist. Our server, Bruce (who I think might also be the owner), came by a little while later, apologizing for the wait. Totally fair though -- the place was buzzing, every table full of happy pancake-lovers. Now let me just say... the menu is massive. Like, Cheesecake Factory-level overwhelming but in a much more charming and syrup-covered way. Truly something for everyone -- sweet, savoury, bougie, basic, vegan-ish -- you name it. You can even get a bowl of cereal for a reasonable price is that's what you're into. After intense deliberation, I landed on the Four Berry Cheesecake Big Flat Pancake. Darryl went all-in with the Big Flat Monster, and we started off with the feta taters from the feature menu. Coffee and water arrived quickly. The taters, despite being requested as a starter, made their grand entrance alongside our mains. But hey, when you're that good-looking with a side of hand whipped feta, you can show up whenever you want. My pancake was deceptively simple-looking but hit every note I wanted. I took the menu's warning about the "highly addictive cream cheese whip" seriously, piled everything on top, rolled it up tight like a crepe, and took a bite so dramatic other diners paused mid-brunch in awe of my mad pancake skills. Darryl's Monster plate was just that--a deliciously chaotic medley of breakfast foods. He stared at it like it held the answers to the universe, whispering "I just don't know what to eat next" with the same energy as someone discovering brunch for the first time. I've never seen someone so emotionally moved by sourdough toast. Speaking of which -- honourable mentions: * The fruit bowl! Elite. Zero filler fruit. No sad cantaloupe or mystery melon. I was really excited about this place as it's been on my list and it always has a long wait, finally today we got to try it out. First of all, you have to realize it's small. They don't really have tables bigger than for 4, and they might be able to squeeze 5 but not for all tables so if you're 5 you have to wait extra long. With the office shut down for an extra long weekend, a friend and I went to the Big Flat Pancake Co on a Friday morning. We arrived there right at opening, which meant generous parking at the strip mall, and our choice of seats. The place was new, clean, and the friendly waitress greeted us with great energy and enthusiasm so early in the morning. In the beginning I worried it would be only her doing all the serving, but as the morning continued and the place began to fill up fast, I was happy to see other staff members magically appear to help out in the busy place. And boy it was happily busy! With many items on the menu, we both decided to order the based on the name, and chose a pancake option. Friend went with the colourful Los Cabos option, while I chose the more standard Choose Your Own Adventure (aka choice of meat and eggs). The pancakes came as the standard bigger/thinner Dutch Pancakes. Honestly my two poached eggs and three sausage patties looked a little sparse on the huge flat pancake, but by the time I finished the pancake I felt it was a good portion. We ordered eggs benedicts and a side of big flat pancake with brown sugar and lemon. My bacon lover benny was positively sinful, it was fried extra crispy, no lumpy fat bits and deliciously buttery. The hash browns were also nicely prepared and fantastic with the eggs. I was also quite please with the texture and taste of the pancake, its like a really thin crepe that was wonderfully done. The Big Flat Pancake Co is 8 mins drive from my house. It's a small breakfast/brunch restaurant, owned by the local family. Excellent service and food. My husband and I always have our weekend brunch at this place. We always got there early when it just opened to avoid the hug line up. Inside the restaurant is nice and clean. Mostly small tables are for 2 or 4 people. If you have a large group, I would like to recommend to come as early as possible. The restaurant doesn't take any reservation. First come first serve. Both my husband and I always ordered the same food from this place. We ordered holiday and seasonal specials sometimes too. My husband's favorite is Bananarama, which made by a mound of diced banana topped with toffee chips and toasted coconut, smothered in caramel sauce, served with fresh whipped cream on side. Sounds so sweet. For me, my most favorite dish is the Benny's gone fishing: Nanhuk smoked salmon piled high, poached eggs and creamy hollandaise on grilled English muffins served with rustic hashbrowns and fresh fruit. The food is fresh and well cooked. Even through the prices of the food are little bit high, they are very tasty and totally worth the prices. I would like to highly recommend this place. read more

Good not great. I've visited this restaurant a fair bit, usually getting a pancake (crepe) which are quite good. I've tried some of their other items and they are slightly disappointing. Chicken and "waffles" is one waffle with three small pieces of chicken, both the chicken and waffle were very dry. Their omelettes are okay as well but nothing special. The service is quite slow. Always a line up to get a table even on week days and they rarely come around to refill drinks. For the hour and a half we were there I was offered a refill on water once but never received it. Same with my friend who ordered coffee, so she paid $4 for a very small cup. Unless you are going for a pancake, which they have so many unique flavours of, I would say don't bother going. This was the second time I came here. Prices were a couple dollars more but that's just like any other restaurant in the lower mainland having to raise the prices. For the amount of food you get, it is definitely worth it compared to other breakfast places! Staff who was seating people did not acknowledge it was numbered and asking guests to seat whomever is next cause he did not see who put their name down first. If the staff doesn't understand how the numbering works in order then perhaps a host is needed. Food is just like De Dutch. Pricing is a bit cheaper. For the area, this is a good option. Finally got a table at this very popular breakfast restaurant, and I didn't even have to write my name on their big blackboard of pancake anticipation! I tried twice on weekends and I wasn't able to get a table after waiting 15 minutes but I'm not mad; just determined to see how special is this place. We eventually found parking and walked in to discover the Big Flat Pancake was still nearly full but people were starting to leave. We were sat by a friendly gentleman and offered drinks right away. It took awhile for our waitress to come take our order so I kept on changing my mind as I kept on reading/salivating over the menu. Eventually a sweet older lady came to take our order (after we asked the bus girl for assistance) and I settled on the meat lover's pancake. Thankfully our orders came within a few minutes and we happily rearranged our table to make room for the giant plates with their giant contents! The syrup we were given was a bit disappointing. I was expecting a thicker, more caramelly syrup like stroop. But my pancake was divine! The tiny pieces of sausages and bacon were slightly fried to give it some crispiness surrounded by thin, light batter reminiscent of crepes. The egg was not needed or perhaps I should've ordered over easy instead of over medium and used the runny yolk as a sauce (next time!) Sadly, as nice as our waitress was, we had to flag her down to get coffee refills as she never came back to check on us eventhough the place was nearly empty. Foodie find! Found this brunch place in poco! "Green, Eggs & Ham" (avocado, eggs & ham) + "the Sausage Party (trio of bratwurst, sausage party & spicy Andouille, topped with melted Gouda & egg). The pancake is not usual thick pancake, but made with same pancake batter but flattened - not a crepe but thinly flattened pancake - just like the name of the restaurant itself! Service was excellent! The servers were friendly and they observe social distancing by spacing out the tables well & servers + kitchen staff all wear masks. The waiting time at around 12ish is short.
