The food, the customer service and the ambiance is all what brings people back to this brunch place time and again. Long line ups during the limited hours of operation but its worth the wait. Like any other brunch place they also have choice of hot and cold drinks along with bowls, omelettes, pancakes and waffles . Many sides like fruits, salads, potatoes and small kids meals are also available.
While the ambiance is lively and great for getting together with friends or family, and the food is excellent and worth the wait. Big Flat Pancake may be a victim of its success as the service is slow if they hire more employees to help clear the tables and make the food. It can go a long way to improve the turn of customers.
With the office shut down for an extra long weekend, a friend and I went to the Big Flat Pancake Co on a Friday morning. We arrived there right at opening, which meant generous parking at the strip mall, and our choice of seats. The place was new, clean, and the friendly waitress greeted us with great energy and enthusiasm so early in the morning. In the beginning I worried it would be only her doing all the serving, but as the morning continued and the place began to fill up fast, I was happy to see other staff members magically appear to help out in the busy place. And boy it was happily busy! With many items on the menu, we both decided to order the based on the name, and chose a pancake option. Friend went with the colourful Los Cabos option, while I chose the more standard Choose Your Own Adventure (aka choice of meat and eggs). The pancakes came as the standard bigger/thinner Dutch Pancakes. Honestly my two poached eggs and three sausage patties looked a little sparse on the huge flat pancake, but by the time I finished the pancake I felt it was a good portion. Overall I really liked the new/clean atmosphere, the long list of choices (there's much more than Dutch pancakes on the menu) and the friendly staff members.
I was really excited about this place as it's been on my list and it always has a long wait, finally today we got to try it out. First of all, you have to realize it's small. They don't really have tables bigger than for 4, and they might be able to squeeze 5 but not for all tables so if you're 5 you have to wait extra long. Second because it's busy on weekends the food takes a LONG time to come. As for the pancakes - the pancakes themselves are quite good. Think of them as like thicker giant versions of those thin Swedish pancakes. Really smooth, sweet and great texture. However the ingredients are just laid out on top. At least, the sausage somehow I had envisioned was embedded in the pancake, no it's just the delish pancake with some sausages on top. So I was underwhelmed. My kids had waffles which they liked. The portions are quite filling and big. However I was a bit underwhelmed by the entirety of it - the wait, and the stuff just sitting on top of the pancake. Not sure this place is worth the wait.
It was super nice to find a good quality brunch place in the suburbs that is on par with the trendy downtown eateries. I speculated that the place would be pretty good as I've drove by numerous times and there's always a long lineup outside. I waited a good 30 minutes, but the line was well organized and a man came out to take names down and periodically check up on us with a big smile and jolly demure. We ordered eggs benedicts and a side of big flat pancake with brown sugar and lemon. My bacon lover benny was positively sinful, it was fried extra crispy, no lumpy fat bits and deliciously buttery. The hash browns were also nicely prepared and fantastic with the eggs. I was also quite please with the texture and taste of the pancake, its like a really thin crepe that was wonderfully done. Service was good, but they were super busy and coffee refill came very slowly. I was pleased overall and would go back again to try their extensive menu. Parking was also easy to find. In summary, I went in with high expectations, based on the lineups, and came out with 100% satisfied!

We stopped by here over the weekend for brunch. It was an hour wait. Once seated, the service was fast. We ordered chicken and waffles, the meatlovers pancake and juice. I really enjoyed the chicken and waffles. The waffle was crispy. The fried chicken strips were made well with a good coating of batter. The honey butter paired well with the meal. The meatlovers pancake had ham, bacon and sausage baked into the pancake. It was topped with two eggs. It was also tasty. The restaurant is child friendly with high chairs, and individual kids booklet to keep kids busy drawing for a bit. Covid precautions were in place. Staff wore face masks. Contact information was collected for tracing purposes.
The Big Flat Pancake Co is 8 mins drive from my house. It's a small breakfast/brunch restaurant, owned by the local family. Excellent service and food. My husband and I always have our weekend brunch at this place. We always got there early when it just opened to avoid the hug line up. Inside the restaurant is nice and clean. Mostly small tables are for 2 or 4 people. If you have a large group, I would like to recommend to come as early as possible. The restaurant doesn't take any reservation. First come first serve. Both my husband and I always ordered the same food from this place. We ordered holiday and seasonal specials sometimes too. My husband's favorite is Bananarama, which made by a mound of diced banana topped with toffee chips and toasted coconut, smothered in caramel sauce, served with fresh whipped cream on side. Sounds so sweet. For me, my most favorite dish is the Benny's gone fishing: Nanhuk smoked salmon piled high, poached eggs and creamy hollandaise on grilled English muffins served with rustic hashbrowns and fresh fruit. The food is fresh and well cooked. Even through the prices of the food are little bit high, they are very tasty and totally worth the prices. I would like to highly recommend this place.

Super busy on the weekends, the place was full with not many seats. We stood in line to wait for a table, waited around 20 minutes. The pancakes are humongous and unique from other brunch spots. We really enjoyed the clubhouse, the portions were large and we ordered three dish for three people with lots of left overs to take home. The pancake was not too sweet and came with all sorts of toppings. The menu has a wide variety of items and we will be returning soon. read more

My moms been here before and wanted us to try the place. It wasn't really my thing. I can see that there are a lot of people that really like this place but I only went because my mom wanted to go otherwise I personally wouldn't have gone because nothing on the menu really called me so I ended up ordering the lawnmower man which I didn't realize was on a bed of deep fried hashbrowns and I don't like those at all so that was a bad choice. My mom had the cinnamon apple big flat which I will say was tasty but I don't really care for sweet breakfasts so I wouldn't have ordered it for myself. My husband had a big flat pancake as well and thought it was o.k. Overall the food didn't wow me and I was surprised at how high the prices were. Service was great though. read more

Decided to go on a last-minute brunch date, followed by an even later decision to hit up Big Flat Pancake. I'd been before and half-expected a line that wrapped around the block and maybe into next Tuesday, but we lucked out -- only a few folks ahead of us at noon, and we were seated after a reasonable 20-ish minute wait. Brunch miracles do exist. Our server, Bruce (who I think might also be the owner), came by a little while later, apologizing for the wait. Totally fair though -- the place was buzzing, every table full of happy pancake-lovers. Now let me just say... the menu is massive. Like, Cheesecake Factory-level overwhelming but in a much more charming and syrup-covered way. Truly something for everyone -- sweet, savoury, bougie, basic, vegan-ish -- you name it. You can even get a bowl of cereal for a reasonable price is that's what you're into. After intense deliberation, I landed on the Four Berry Cheesecake Big Flat Pancake. Darryl went all-in with the Big Flat Monster, and we started off with the feta taters from the feature menu. Coffee and water arrived quickly. The taters, despite being requested as a starter, made their grand entrance alongside our mains. But hey, when you're that good-looking with a side of hand whipped feta, you can show up whenever you want. My pancake was deceptively simple-looking but hit every note I wanted. I took the menu's warning about the "highly addictive cream cheese whip" seriously, piled everything on top, rolled it up tight like a crepe, and took a bite so dramatic other diners paused mid-brunch in awe of my mad pancake skills. Darryl's Monster plate was just that--a deliciously chaotic medley of breakfast foods. He stared at it like it held the answers to the universe, whispering "I just don't know what to eat next" with the same energy as someone discovering brunch for the first time. I've never seen someone so emotionally moved by sourdough toast. Speaking of which -- honourable mentions: * The fruit bowl! Elite. Zero filler fruit. No sad cantaloupe or mystery melon. Just the good stuff. * The sourdough toast. Crispy, flavourful, the kind of toast that makes you believe in carbs again. When the bill came, Bruce had a mini "a-ha!" moment, realizing the taters arrived late. He apologized and took them off the bill, despite our insistence that it was totally fine. A classy move to cap off an already delightful experience. Final verdict? We'll 100% be back. read more

This was the second time I came here. Prices were a couple dollars more but that's just like any other restaurant in the lower mainland having to raise the prices. For the amount of food you get, it is definitely worth it compared to other breakfast places! There was a 20-30 minute wait when we got there but the service is quite fast so it wasn't too bad to wait. Food was good as usual and we were in and out in less than an hour because we had a show to get to. Service was fast even though we didn't tell them we had to get out of there ASAP. Will definitely be visiting in the future! read more

Epic Fruit Big Flat Pancake ($14 or $16, I don't remember). I added Nutella, and omg, I loved this. Because I didn't get a pancake last time, so I had to try one. I liked how they had more fruit than just bananas, apples and grapes. And it's not like they skimp on the raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cantaloupe, and honeydew. There was a good amount of Nutella as well and the whip cream wasn't too sweet. Would totally get again! Chicken and waffles + 1 egg The waffle was a good base, but I only ate half of it. It looks like a small portion, but you do get 3 good pieces of chicken and +$1.50 per egg. This is very filling. I really liked this. And adding the Jumpin Johnny's hot sauce really boosted the f The service was amazing; everyone we encountered was super pleasant and happy to be there! My friend and I also split the tater tot with house fire roasted salsa ($5). This was just okay, I wouldn't care to get this again; just not to my taste is all, it wasn't a bad dish. read more

Second time here. Waitlist is on chalk board at the entrance. Staff who was seating people did not acknowledge it was numbered and asking guests to seat whomever is next cause he did not see who put their name down first. If the staff doesn't understand how the numbering works in order then perhaps a host is needed. Food is just like De Dutch. Pricing is a bit cheaper. For the area, this is a good option. Restaurant is on smaller side. Coffee is always hot. Food is quick despite place being busy. read more

There is so much to say about this brunch spot! Great menu with a variety of different breakfast and lunch options. Reasonable prices for the high quality items we were served. Friendly, personably service which cannot go undervalued these days. The staff/owners here were so accommodating and polite during a really pleasant brunch. Atmosphere is very relaxed, kid-friendly but also great for a hangover date- lol i mean, com'on it happens. I have been living in the tricity area for a while and I would recommend Big Flat Pancake Co. over Cora's and De Dutch, without a question. read more
Finally got a table at this very popular breakfast restaurant, and I didn't even have to write my name on their big blackboard of pancake anticipation! I tried twice on weekends and I wasn't able to get a table after waiting 15 minutes but I'm not mad; just determined to see how special is this place. I googled the best time to come on a Saturday to get a table so we came at 1pm but it was also the time where half of PoCo is shopping in this tiny plaza. We eventually found parking and walked in to discover the Big Flat Pancake was still nearly full but people were starting to leave. We were sat by a friendly gentleman and offered drinks right away. It took awhile for our waitress to come take our order so I kept on changing my mind as I kept on reading/salivating over the menu. Eventually a sweet older lady came to take our order (after we asked the bus girl for assistance) and I settled on the meat lover's pancake. Thankfully our orders came within a few minutes and we happily rearranged our table to make room for the giant plates with their giant contents! The syrup we were given was a bit disappointing. I was expecting a thicker, more caramelly syrup like stroop. But my pancake was divine! The tiny pieces of sausages and bacon were slightly fried to give it some crispiness surrounded by thin, light batter reminiscent of crepes. The egg was not needed or perhaps I should've ordered over easy instead of over medium and used the runny yolk as a sauce (next time!) Sadly, as nice as our waitress was, we had to flag her down to get coffee refills as she never came back to check on us eventhough the place was nearly empty. Despite the mediocre service, I'd like to come back and try the other items in the menu. read more

The raves about this place were well deserved! Going on a weekend means long line ups put the door. Even on a Friday morning, when most people should be working, good place was hopping! The pancakes live up to the name - big and flat...and great! I had the Los Cabos pancake, which was savory (eggs and sausage) and sweet (pancake and syrup). Great family run restaurant! Friendly, tasty, lots of options, and worth the wait! Definitely coming again. read more

Thanks for a great breakfast. We arrive 20 minutes before closing. Very welcoming! Food was fresh and tasty!!! We shared a Colorado Omlelet with freshly done Cubed potatoes and nice toasted sour dough bread. They mixed cranberry and orange juice on request and refilled the coffee 3 times. They didn't rush us out. Very friendly clean environment. Will definitely be going back. read more
Excellent customer service. Good kids menu. Extensive brunch menu. Food is ok but recommend more seasoning. Fresh ingredients and the kids love the variety of fresh fruit with their brunch. Love that the tricity has a proper breakfast/brunch place and not another chain. read more

Foodie find! Found this brunch place in poco! "Green, Eggs & Ham" (avocado, eggs & ham) + "the Sausage Party (trio of bratwurst, sausage party & spicy Andouille, topped with melted Gouda & egg). The pancake is not usual thick pancake, but made with same pancake batter but flattened - not a crepe but thinly flattened pancake - just like the name of the restaurant itself! Service was excellent! The servers were friendly and they observe social distancing by spacing out the tables well & servers + kitchen staff all wear masks. The waiting time at around 12ish is short. I'm guessing if it's breakfast time it must be super long... Will definitely come back to try the other pancakes. read more

Give it 4 stars for decor & uniqueness, not many breakies out here, judging fr my business travels. Crepe is good, didn't find the hash all that fulfilling. Would consider going back. read more
