I'm reviewing the Stable, because I didn't find a separate Yelp identity. The Barn itself is kind of like a student dining hall with burgers, sandwiches, and salad bar. The Stable is a sit down restaurant with waiter. The ambiance is pretty nice. The building is only a few years old and it represents a great upgrade from the old Barn. Most universities don't have this option of a kinda upscale dining on campus so it's a bonus. The food is quite solid. They just updated their menu so I haven't tried everything yet but everything I've had is solid. My favorite is the chicken Mediterranean salad and I get it almost every time but the brisket is good too and the waffle fries and pizza at happy hour are great. Even though it's nice, I guess it's almost all UCR folks and their guess. I'm not sure people off campus would come since the only public parking is paid. read more

It was great to visit The Barn after many years. It has been renovated and it was done well. They salvaged the original wood beams from the original Barn structure. The space is used for many different types of events and is a very large venue. There is ample outdoor space and ample indoor space. I would estimate that the place as a whole could hold about 500 people, if not more. I was very impressed with the catering. It is very well prepared, visually appealing, and tasted wonderfully. The serving staff is very kind, attentive, and customer service oriented. I appreciated that they were on hand for any questions, concerns, and overall smiles for the event. There is a stage for performances, 2 bar areas (inside and outside) and also enough space to have corn hole and other outdoor games setup. I could see a wedding (ceremony and reception) in this great space. Great work UCR at preserving and providing The Barn, an iconic venue in Riverside. read more

We joined a grad event here and the catered food was fine. Beef was very greasy, soaking into the plate and leaving a literal pool of oil... Aside from the beef, the standard rice and beans were fine, the best part was the surprisingly fluffy and soft corn tortillas. Those were the only positives of the meal, which was otherwise astonishingly average. The service was fine, bar staff were friendly and willing to get water and describe their menu. The ambiance is nice, definitely upbeat. We were lucky to have a dj, and the venue was definitely very noisy. The Barn has been losing clients since most college students are on a tight budget. It is unfortunate that the cost of sandwiches, salads, and hot foods are too high for enough traffic of customers. Most students end up at the Student Union for the fast food outside companies located on campus. Service is slow, ambience is depressing. read more

Yes, it's on-campus. But...I've never had a bad meal here? The first time I ate here was actually about a week or so after I started working at UCR. A colleague brought me to lunch. I had a fried chicken sandwich, no fries, and...that sandwich was enough food for me. The two pictures included are the brisket sandwich and the western cheeseburger (that may not be exactly what it's called) and I have no complaints. Pretty darn good for campus food. read more

I had a horrible experience at The Barn. I was a loyal customer to The Barn until today. As I was enjoying my Panda Express, a woman came up to me and made my friend and I feel very unwelcomed. No where does the restaurant mention that we can't have outside food inside the establishment and she kicked us out. She told us we couldn't have outside food and we had to leave the establishment. Keep in mind there are other customers with outside food aswell and she didn't say anything to them. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back to this place because their staff is unprofessional and constantly gossiping on their shifts instead of cleaning or doing their job. I also work a food service job and I know they are not supposed to be doing that on shift. We were basically done with our food, they were staring at us while talking the whole time and they couldn't have told us before we sat here. I don't understand the need to kick us out. I understand if it was busy it's fair to keep the paying customers a spot to eat, but there was no one in here. Do better when hiring a staff The Barn. read more

I'm so glad that they allow students to use their meal swipes. The only complaint that I have is the extremely loud music that plays outside through the speakers that are right above peoples' heads. I had an awesome experience here. It's my last year at UCR and I somehow never tried this spot; I will definitely be coming back. The cashier recommended me the western chicken sandwich and it was a 10/10. The fries are also so bomb. For what it is, it is very much reasonably priced. Seeing as it was my first time here, I ordered the barn burger and barn fries. Honestly when I got my order, it looked a bit underwhelming but I was very impressed with both. The burger had plenty of meat, pickles and veggies, while the fries were delicious and had plenty of seasoning. Damn, those are nice beers and good burgers! Their steak fries are thick, soft, and very well seasoned. Their onion rings were too bready for me. But the beer options were definitely impressive and their options were enough to suit our party of four. The burgers though, let's talk about the food. We all got burgers but they have so many options and quite a few people working to crank it out! Their staff members are kind and very honest with their preferences, which reassures me that they've eaten the food. My 2 vegetarian friends got the veggie and LOVED the flavor so much I wish I'd gotten it. My beef hating friend felt the chicken strips were very compact, dense, and very filling. As for me, I got the classic and it was juicy, tasty, and very well put together. The bread was more than we thought it would be but it tasted great altogether! The new Barn is clean, sleek and modern. The food options vary from hot foods to typical burgers and fried. Main reason we went is because we live nearby and noticed they actually offered vegan "chicken" sandwiches. It is an additional cost to substitute ($1.99), even though I didn't see anywhere that mentioned the additional cost. The chicken sandwiches were tasty, but the structure of the sandwich was poor, it fell apart after the second bite probably because the bread wasn't toasted well. Self seating, and they have plaques to determine whether or not the table had been disinfected or not. read more

We decided to check this place out because the construction had just been finished. The restaurant is located in the middle of UC Riverside campus, so parking is a little annoying. The restaurant itself has an outdoor bar for alcohol and drinks. You purchase food from the inside and they have salads, burgers, sandwiches and more. Due to Covid only outdoor seating is available. I ordered their smoked turkey sandwich and it was ok. Good size but the bread combo is just very dry, average sandwich at best. The budget strain can definitely be tasted, but the food served at The Barn still beats dorm food and cafeteria food. I had the Rustica Mac & Cheese and it was delicious, though a bit oily. Though it's more on the expensive side, I really like this place! The Barn is the perfect place to meet up with friends and work on a project or just eat together. It was the perfect ambience for casual lunching! The service is great! The location is great! Some things I didn't like were the taste of the Barn Fries and how dry they were. It was almost impossible to eat them without dressing. The other thing I didn't like was when I ordered the Chicken Caprese Sandwich, the mozzarella was not melted enough. Newly reopened. Great looking building and set up. I'm reviewing this taking into consideration they're still figuring things out. I hope. Number one and had nothing to do with the people at the Barn. It's the time of COVID, your campus is empty. How about an hour of free parking so I can run in and grab a bite or just pick up growlers to go. 5 mins and a ticket was written. Number 2. I know UCR is a citrus Mecca. Great that you're infusing it in your beer. But your lager, ales, and IPA tasted all the same. Like cheap Mikes Harder Lemonade. Never have I tasted a beer with such an overwhelming sweet citrus flavor. In all 3. Number 3. I tried the wings. Very meaty. They were on happy hour. Oh yeah, only their food is happy hour, not their drinks. How about calling it an early dinner special. I think they'll figure it out. Judging by the reviews listed for The Barn, the most positive reviews on here are because of the events, the nightlife, the music... and I totally respect that. However, my review is based upon nothing more exciting than lunch, so it about the food and the setting. It's a cute space, especially for a college campus. It's large, it's clean, and they actually put some effort into making it nice. The outdoor patio area, in particular, was very nice... you wouldn't know you were at a university. The service was fast and efficient and the menu fairly extensive for a small eatery, with vegetarian options as well as omnivorous selections. The food wasn't exceptional, but again, you have to grade on a curve for a college campus eatery (get it?). One of the better attempts at a university cafe, outdoes most places at most campuses. read more

For campus food it's decent, some of the food is a hit or miss depending on what you get. It's a little bit pricey for the quality of food, but still eatable. Service is nice and quick and orders are taken fairly quickly unless it's extremely busy. It can sometimes be loud inside if there's a lot of people, but there's also a ton of outdoor seating where you can enjoy your food. read more

The barn is a bit pricey, being an on campus dining option. But it's definitely my preferred spot on campus. Not a lot of people know about it, most undergrads tend to eat at the hub so the Barn is actually a pretty relaxing place to be. For the last two weeks they just started serving rusas. Which is amazing. It takes a bit long to make. Because they're just starting to learn it as an addition to their menu and also because it's so popular. The barn is a great place for organizations to host events. They will work with you to help you creat the space you need. For Future Business Leaders of America - phi beta lambda, we had our Winter gala at the barn and they were very accommodating to all the set up requirements we needed. The staff is great and very helpful. For events they even provide a Dj to help play the music. The food for the most part is great. The pulled pork sandwich is A+. This time, I ordered the Chicken Marsala Pasta. The sauce on the pasta tasted bitter...yuck. The grilled chicken was a little dry. Last time, I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Burger, and there was way too much vinegar on the buffalo chicken. The fries were okay, and probably the best part of that meal. No bueno... Lit as heck and most definitely the best food you will find on the UCR campus that's unique to here. My recommendations: -Island nachos -Any burger The food feels fresh, the fries are delicious, and the ambiance is nice. They also serve fruity drinks and host many campus events, including concerts and spoken word events. super disappointed :( came to enjoy and experience a drink at the barn post 10 years+ since graduation.. it was cold and raining but noticed the outside bar side was open. was told we could get a drink and seating in the adjacent cafeteria space was open..seating inside the barn wasn't available due to legality issues and no manager on site cafeteria was full unfortunately with no seating available ... came back and asked if we could sit inside given cafeteria we full, it was raining, cold, and the only covering part of the pagoda had an ample amount of students underneath..the girl working there was extremely nice and kind...she explained if she could she totally would. said while she called her supervisor we could sit inside.. within minutes a woman arrived and said "sorry due to no manager on site you guys need to sit outside." i asked if an umbrella could be opened given it was raining and cold. table was wet, chairs were slightly wet..(kudos to the kid who came out and toweled down our table)..but an overall unpleasant and uncomfortable experience... if you're going to keep your bar side open and accept payment at your bar, at the very least consider offering seating inside to a minimum number of customers. read more

One of the better on-campus food options which explains why it is a bit more pricey. They offer a variety of foods from American to Italian from Breakfast to Lunch. There's a lot of seating, both indoor and outdoor, so it's usually not a problem. The line can get rather long around noon, but it's worth waiting for, and is usually pretty fast. Sometimes I get sick of the food at the HUB so once in while I like to be fancy and grab lunch with my friends here. The ambiance is great and I am obsessed with the Barn Style French fries! Perfectly seasoned and crispy with ranch on the side. I also usually get the lemonade with the Chicken Caprese sandwich or the BLT sandwich, but I will most definitely be going more often this year to try out the other items on the menu :) read more

I literally go here every day and there's sooooo many food options to pick from: burgers, salad, pasta, sandwiches, etc. I usually get the berry quinoa salad but then get tempted by the delicious burgers. This review is for the venue and Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music) event that was played last night. I drove up from San Diego to The Barn, a venue I had never heard of before, and let me say I haven't been more impressed with a place since probably The El Rey Theater in LA when I saw Chuck perform there for the Revival Tour this past fall. For all the money people pay to go to a UC school, you'd think they'd recognize a great venue when they see one and be appreciative of having something like this on their campus. Now since I didn't try the food I can't vouch for a taste test although the menu looked pretty damn delicious. All I can say is If you don't want dorm food then go off campus to an actual restaurant and don't knock down stars for the venue part of it. Anyway I was greatly impressed with the organization this school had with not only the website directions of HOW to get there and WHERE to park along with parking cost info, etc. but I was especially excited to see the signs with Chuck's name on it directing me in the way to the event. A quick stunt driver move getting off the freeway I had spotted the first sign! The signs continued all the way into the designated parking lot which was not miles away from the venue at all. The guy who took our money was super cool and very helpful about navigating out of town folks like ourselves into the correct direction. And upon walking to the venue from Lot 6, it felt very safe walking across campus and not like we were about to get snatched into the bushes. The people outside of the venue who took our money were really nice. 12 bucks for non students at 5 otherwise. Not a bad price! The guy doing wrist bands was also very polite and didn't put a damper on our show excitement. One of the most solid reasons The Barn gets 5 stars is the fact they practice WRISTBANDS for alcohol alongside of ALL AGES SHOWS. They have faith in their patrons and this says a lot! My husband was able to sip on $3.50 beers while I was still side by side. No silly VIP areas or goofy views to watch the view from. All of the employees inside were very nice and seemed like they really enjoyed their job. To relate the look of The Barn to San Diego landmarks, it reminded me of Porter's Pub at UCSD because of the outdoor seating but far better. The inside intimacy reminded me of Che Cafe seeing as you were right there but The Barn kicks Che Cafe in the face any day. The venue was open and airy and didn't get hot and sweaty within a minute of being in there. The acoustics here are amazing and really makes watching a favorite band even more enjoyable. At the end of the night we were kind of rushed out by the security guards but they were fairly cool about it considering I am sure these middle aged dudes probably have families to go home to and don't want to stare at a bunch of kids shootin' the stuff with each other long after the event is over. No hard feelings. I am keeping The Barn on watch for future acts that may come through here. Talking to friends who live up in the area they said they have seen the likes of No Doubt, Jimmy Eat World, The Aquabats, and other folks grace the presence of this venue. The Barn is definitely worth the drive up from San Diego and I can't wait to go back! read more
