Specialties
The benefits of The Bar Method include strength training, stretching, and cardio -- all in one innovative workout that maximizes your results in the most time-efficient way possible. Each class is elegantly designed to seamlessly incorporate the science of physical therapy and the intense pace of interval training.
When it comes to strength, The Bar Method focuses on isometric exercises and small, controlled movements. These exercises engage and strengthen muscles, helping to tone and sculpt the body. Regular practice can lead to improved muscular endurance, increased overall strength, and a more defined physique. Your body will thank you for targeting areas that are most often neglected (deep neck flexors, rotator cuff, hip extensors/abductors, transverse abdominis) that can often lead to injuries down the road when they are weak.
Flexibility is another key component of The Bar Method. The exercises incorporate stretches and deepening movements that work to increase flexibility and range of motion. Over time, participants may notice improved flexibility, increased joint mobility, and enhanced posture.
In addition to physical benefits, The Bar Method emphasizes mindfulness during workouts. Mindfulness is encouraged through a focus on proper alignment, breath control, and mental concentration. By fostering this mind-body connection, participants can experience increased body awareness, reduced stress levels, and improved overall mental well-being.
History
Established in 2011.
Burr Leonard, founder of The Bar Method, was inspired to create a fitness technique in 2001 that would allow clients to effectively tone their bodies in a safe and targeted manner after discovering the Lotte Berk Method. With the aid of physical therapists and the lessons from her father’s book “Mastery: The Keys to Success and Long-Term Fulfillment,” Burr developed a teaching system that empowered her students to better understand their bodies through The Bar Method technique with the encouragement and support of the instructors. Our Long Beach location is the 21st studio in the country and counting!
Meet the Business Owner: Joanna W.
Originally from Chicago, Jo (as her friends call her) immediately knew this was something special after taking her first Bar Method class in 2007. "It's an hour of pure 'me' time, but by no means is it easy. It takes a lot of mental determination. I love the Bar Method because not only am I strengthening my body, but boosting my mood and spirit. It's also the most efficient and effective whole body exercise I've come across."
After being trained by Burr Leonard, the founder of Bar Method, owning this studio has been quite the journey. "The energy and authenticity from our clients and staff is truly a gem in our fast-paced lifestyle. We deserve to have a simple, joyful, yet effective way to keep our bodies long-lasting."
