The classes are focused on building strength and flexibilty and balance - all crucial in an aging body. When there is a position I am unable to perform, the instructor quickly gives me an alternate. As I am a beginner, I have asked for "hands-on" to correct my posture. Instructors are professional and respectful when providing "hands-on" support. Also, the variety and time of the classes allows me to determine my routine. The staff is welcoming and charming, and my fellow students are friendly and supportive of one another. I can't rave enough about this studio, and everyone of the clients and staff have literally saved my life even if they don't know it. I have a few diagnosed mental health issues and the workouts help me mentally and so does everyone there this is truly my happy place. A few years ago I was involved with a fire and was burnt to the bone, the clients and staff showed up with food, helped take care of my dogs and take me to appointments! The workout is always challenging to me and I learned new moves that I haven't done at my home location. The facility has showers and lockers. The restroom is down a long hall. Hands down, the BEST workout!! There is nothing like Bar Method. It's like physical therapy, Pilates, strength training all rolled into one. The Bar Method teachers are like personal trainers: they have eagle eyes--they can see if you are "off" on technique even the slightest bit. Yes, the corrects do make a difference! I'm back (2 years later). So much has changed in our somewhat post-pandemic world but the love I have for bar remains the same. This studio stayed true during covid with instagram live and zoom classes. The instructors put out funny montages and constant updates while we worked from home. As soon as it was safe to do so, we opened our doors and set up our bar stations six feet apart. Bar itself will always continue to challenges you in exercises and build your body up to be as strong as you let it. But the studio and everything they did for our mental health during COVID cannot be overstated or overlooked. I started The Bar Method a little over 8 years ago now with the goal (at the time) of getting in (lean) shape before my wedding that was in early 2016 & I think it's safe to say that I have stayed OBSESSED with the kick-your-butt classes, the polished studio, the friendly Bar community...everything! Since my start in late 2015, I have gone through three pregnancies with Bar and it is/was the BEST body prep for labor/delivery AND postpartum. Bar guided me through my changing body over those years (and continues to do so!) and I am grateful that the community and workout has been there for me. Our BARtenders :) are always thinking of new studio-wide challenges for us members to bear down & PUSH ourselves. The various challenge opportunities to get yourself involved and to class are available & plentiful. If you've been thinking that you need to up your workout game and try some of the myriad bar classes that everyone's been talking about for years now, look no more: the Bar Method Long Beach is everything!! I have been a runner for 40 years and as I age, I can't rely on just my running for my fitness; I need to be diligent about proper strengthening and stretching just to maintain my musculature and tone!! But the Bar Method has our backs, literally and figuratively ;)!! This is the BEST full-body workout you can do, and what's amazing is that all ages, fitness levels, and body types can and do participate. Although I danced ballet for 11 years growing up and have been athletic my whole life, I never knew how truly weak I was until I began my bar classes here ;P !! I thought I would never be able to complete the sets of pushups we do in each class, much less the legwork, but within just two weeks I was already much stronger!! Now, three months after taking classes only averaging 3-4 times/week, I kid you not that I can walk up any long flight of stairs anywhere and not get winded, and my core has never been stronger!! My arms and legs have become so much more defined but not in that bulky way that I'm not a fan of. (BTW, you are able to control how much you want to develop your muscles or simply tone by adjusting the different options within each exercise.) Every single instructor here is amazing and skilled to proctor and correct the form of each bar student to maximize the movements for our benefit, and there are different types of classes to mix up our workouts. My faves are the Bar Move (which incorporates more cardio movements to increase and maintain a more elevated heart rate) and the Bar Express which are 45 minutes of quicker-paced workouts. You can see by the photos I posted that the entire studio is gorgeous and so clean; the owner, Jo, has a beautiful aesthetic flair and attention to the details in not only the elegance of the studio but also in the accoutrements she provides for her clients. There is even a Keurig coffee maker and cold water dispenser in the entrance to greet you ;). My sweet husband bought me my membership at this studio and I'm hooked ;)!! The studio is now almost like it was pre-pandemic. Popular times fill up quickly but I like that class sizes are limited so that you don't compete for square footage like at the big fitness club classes. My body may be the same dress size but totally different substance now. I'm confident to do anything. Sure, it's not cheap, but staying fit and healthy pays off. If you haven't taken a Bar Method class or haven't been to the Long Beach studio in awhile, you really need to come and give the new classes a try! They now have 2 New Bar Method platforms. One is Bar Method Cardio and the other is Bar Strength. Both give you one heck of a workout!! I took my first hour long Bar Strength class just this past week, and it was brutal, and exhausting, and super challenging...I LOVED it! Steph, the instructor, really has the design of the class down to where you just sort of flow from one move to the next. The last 12 years of my life has been numerous injuries, resulting in surgeries, physical therapy and an extra 30+ pounds. I felt like Jabba the Huts's sister.
