I got a sandwich with the two vegan cookies and ice cream and it was delicious! I am so grateful they had vegan options.

Hole in the wall dessert spot that has fresh cookies and brownies and ice cream! I opted for a cookie sandwich and I didn't go wrong with my choice. A good place to stop after dinner, it does get packed but definitely worth the wait!

Ice cream in San Francisco on a hot day? Yes. Ice cream in San Francisco when it's cold? Somehow hits a little better. I was out grabbing dinner in Chinatown and was craving something sweet and realized I was close to The Baked Bear. This had been on my list for so long and I was so excited to finally try it. First, the location is prime. Great location. The offerings were a lot and I enjoyed the variety. I grabbed ice cream (the blue Cookie Monster?) and sugar cookies and made my way back home. When I got home I took a bite of the cookie and it wasn't the best. I decided to put it in the oven and give it more of a crunch. When it was done I decided instead of an ice cream sandwich, I would just crumble it on top. I thought it was alright. The cookies didn't have flavor for me but maybe that's the point because of the ice creams? Not sure but will be back to try something else soon!

It's been a while since I've came here. The lady working was so energetic and excited to take the order. I got a scoop of bear batter and my friend also got bear batter on a cone. It taste and has the texture of a cookie dough. Really liked it

Perfect little dessert spot next to some great north beach restaurants! Loved their variety of cookies and ice cream flavors to choose from. You get to pick a different cookie flavor for each side of the ice cream sandwich and it comes with a heaping scoop of ice cream inside, that you can then warm up for the perfect melty experience

As someone who typically goes for cheap grocery store ice cream, the ice cream here reminds me of ice cream could be! We got a 2 scoop cup on a rainy day, perfect ice cream weather for me because I hate melty ice cream. The flavors we got were Strawberry Shortcake and Cookies and Cream. The ice cream was sooo creamy and tastes so good! You actually taste the flavor. I've been to shops where their ice cream just tastes like milk with a essence of flavor. We got a seat at the windowsill looking out to the street and just sat and enjoyed. While there, a lot of tourists walked past and doubled back for ice cream. I felt like a live advertisement xD. The ice cream here is a bit pricier but I would stop by every so often for a treat.

Gluten-Free Treat [San Francisco CA] Baked Bear is known for their custom ice cream sandwiches but we just wanted ice-cream to share while waiting to hop on the Big Bus Tour. We were lucky that the shop wasn't busy so service was fast. This location is in Chinatown on Columbus Avenue and if on the Big Bus Tour it is at Stop #3. It'll drop you right in front of it. We shared a cup of the Vegan Chocolate Chip. We asked for sliced almond topping and we were given a generous heap... it was delicious and not too sweet. Inside were some high table seating and they also have a couple of round bistro tables outside. Definitely a place to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. Friendly customer service. Review #3848

Late night dessert options are really a thing in North Beach, but after a lovely dinner, my dining companions and I were determined to keep the night going -- and our sweet tooth lead us to The Baked Bear. Despite being a national chain, it was the only option open until midnight (and until 1AM on the weekends), but was also conveniently located across the street. We lucked out and beat the lines (#1), grabbing a table before a massive post-dinner crowd showed up. While a line managed to snake around the door, I managed to order a few hot cookies ($13 for half dozen) and some ice cream cookie / brownie sandwiches ($10/11). Overpriced? Yes. But also the kind of indulgence / craving we wanted from a late-night sugar rush. The cookies are soft, warm, and borderline dangerous: they're a little too easy to devour. Chocolate chip is a reliable go-to but the cookie monster, gooey butter cake, white chocolate macadamia nut, and snickerdoodle all held their own. I keep it simple with the ice cream, usually opting for old-fashioned vanilla, but the mint chip, mud pie, bear batter, and cookie dough are strong contenders if one is looking to mix it up. Seasonal flavors should also be considered, but be sure to ask for samples. The staff is young, upbeat., and clearly used to handling the North Beach nightlife crowd -- ranging from bar-hopping drunkards, post-dinner gluttons (#2), and the occasional gentleman's club cool-down crew. They're quick to keep the line moving and somehow keep the place from becoming a zoo. One last tip: When asked if one would like to warm up the cookie, the answer should always be an emphatic and enthusiastic, "YES." __________ (#1) Which for others turned into a near 20 minute wait. (#2) Guilty.

What an experience! We had a special 11 year old birthday to celebrate and as he was away from his mom and sister, we wanted to do something special for him and FaceTime them in for celebrations. The Baked Bear is located right off of the Nob Hill neighborhood and was the perfect choice. He was so surprised walking in and totally overwhelmed by the idea of creating his own ice cream sandwich. They have so many options and the worker was super great about explaining every step and every option. She was patient with his excitement and quick with making all 3 sandwiches so we could eat together. Even better, they have gluten free/vegan cookies and ice cream, A plus for me! It's a small spot, but perfect for a sweets pop in. I definitely recommend this, both for the experience and the delicious treat.

Not meaning to throw shade, but it's basically JUST ice cream and cookies. You're paying a high prices for something that didn't necessarily stand out as special for me. The place is busy, but the service is quick.

As far as late night dessert spots go, The Baked Bear was exactly what my friend and I wanted. We had just finished a work dinner and wanted something a little sweet. After looking up some nearby spots, we stumbled onto the fact that The Baked Bear was still open. So off we went! And what we found was design-your-own ice cream sandwiches!!! There were several cookies to choose from, along with brownies, and lots of ice cream flavors. I went with the chocolate chip cookie and cookie dough ice cream combo! We didn't have to wait long for our ice cream creations. They were large portions, lots of sweet treat goodness. Would definitely go back!

The baked bear is a great dessert go to in San Francisco! This location is the only one I've been to but I definitely dont feel the need to try other locations. Stumbled upon this location after eating near Chinatown and was pleasantly surprised. The cookies are made very fresh and served warm and they have some unique flavors! Their ice cream is also delicious with various flavors as well! I recommend the cookie butter cookie and ice cream and the monster! The staff here is also so friendly and nice! Will keep coming back!

Went to a very decadent dinner nearby but didn't quite feel like I had gotten the sweet treat ending I craved so I wandered over here with a friend for a proper dessert. I ended up The person before me ordered a brownie ice cream sandwich and as I watched them warm up the brownies I knew I had to do the same (few things make me happier than a warm brownie!). So I ordered the same with the caramel pretzel fudge ice cream in the middle. I'm not sure if warming it up is something you have to ask for but I had to ask the clerk to do so. No biggie but if you have your heart set on that just make sure you pay attention or just ask it to begin with. The sandwich itself was delicious. Very sweet but perfectly fudgey. I also thought the price, given the massive portion (two brownies and essentially two scoops of ice cream), was quite fair at $11.95. It's easily something you can split amongst two people. Pints run around $13 each which is about what the going rate for gourmet ice cream is these days. Vegan and gluten free options do run considerably more expensive but it is cool they offer it.

Ambiance: Matcha Cafe Maiko is one of a few tea shops…read morespecializing in Matcha flavored drinks and desserts in Japantown. There is no seating located in this particular cafe but plenty of outdoor seating directly outside. The general area can be pretty crowded due to the other store fronts within the mall so if you want a more relaxed matcha tea shop to do work or relax it would be better to order and then leave. Service: They have both a kiosk and a barista taking orders. Staff were friendly and working efficiently and quickly to fill the orders as they were being placed. Wait time: Generally depends on when you go since Japantown mall is a heavily toured area by locals and visitors to the Bay Area but I'd say roughly 10-15 minutes max from standing in line to receiving your drink. Food: The matcha ice cream has a deep matcha flavor with a nice concentration of powder which can be tasted in the soft serve. They also top the soft serve with a light dusting of matcha powder to further enhance the flavors. The cone was soft and light with a gentle sweetness that pairs really well against with the earthiness of the matcha.

Everything from Matcha Cafe Maiko is special. Ironically,…read morefor some mysterious reason, I don't actually like matcha, which feels like a personal failing every time I walk in. Luckily, their other tea offerings are just as good, so I never feel left out. The black sesame latte is a longtime favorite, but today I went with the hojicha frappe and it was excellent. It's not as creamy as, say, a Frappuccino, and the ice crystals are a little larger, but honestly that works in its favor because the roasted hojicha flavor comes through so much more clearly. Deep, toasty, and not overly sweet. Their sundaes are also ridiculously fun, loaded with all kinds of bouncy, chewy little goodies that make your dessert an activity rather than just a course.
