We are close by and pass this place daily, and have sworn to never go back. If the bagels were overpriced and mediocre, we'd still come back occasionally simply due to convenience. Unfortunately for the owner they've lost life long business because they can't hire or train employees to have a baseline level of customer service skills. The cafe is large and has a lot of seating. The service speed was limited to 2 workers on a busy Sunday morning, so it was pretty slow. Everyone who I went with asked for their bagel toasted but when we received them they were not toasted at all. They didn't have napkins or utensils out. I was initially excited to try this place. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. They hike up the prices by 30% when you order online because "it is more convenient", however still made my boyfriend wait in line for 20 minutes when he went to pick up the online order. 15 minutes before he arrived to pick up the order, he received a email saying the food was ready. It made no sense why we still had to wait. When he realized the major price differences in store versus online and asked the cashier, she became extremely abrasive, defensive and asked him to leave. Even more frustrating was that the food was not great and they messed up our bagel orders. They refused to refund us when we brought this up too. Overall not a great establishment. read more

What a lovely breakfast/brunch/lunch cafe downtown Ashland. The coffee, bagels and food selections are great, but most of all the people who work there are personable and accommodating -- like they really enjoy working there providing superior service. If you ask them for something extra they " jump to it" instead of giving you a frown. As a real bonus, they have a private area (function room) where you can hold group meetings / get together's, after-parties following a memorial service, etc. BT is a place where I enjoy spending my hard-earned $ and will tip the wait staff for going above and beyond. Went at 10 AM on a Thursday, so expected there to be some variety of bagels to choose from, but it looked like they had been ransacked in the three-ish hours they had been open, which seemed odd given the amount of traffic that location could realistically get during the morning rush. The bacon, egg and cheese bagel I got was underwhelming to say the least; greasy, lacking in flavor, and tasting just a little bit stale. My friend reported that their whole wheat everything bagel (only picked because the Bagel Table had confoundingly already run out of regular everything bagels earlier in the day) was similarly lacking. My iced coffee was pretty mediocre as well. Food-wise, the Bagel Table was pretty underwhelming, especially given alternatives in the area. As an experience, service left something to be desired. Did not feel particularly welcome, and felt like something of a nuisance to the staff. Additionally, staff told my group there was a 45 minute limit on indoor seating, which again, given that it was 10 AM on a Thursday and that we were the only people sitting inside, seemed odd. After our allotted 45 minutes, one of the staff members politely gave us the heave-ho. I could understand their limit if they had a line out the door and wanted to be fair to other customers waiting their turn to sit in the admittedly small indoor space (only two indoor tables; one small round table, one big, and one larger room which had for some reason been reserved at 10 AM on a Thursday, and as such was off limits), but given the miniscule amount of customers who came through during our stay, the time limit seemed strange and almost arbitrary. There was also no clear and obvious signage alluding to this limit, which would have been helpful to have known about, as we were intending to do a bit of work while we were there. Overall, between the underwhelming food and equally underwhelming stay, I will likely not be returning to the Bagel Table in Ashland in the future. The one positive thing I can say is that our food came quickly (which given the lack of traffic is something one should certainly expect), but there are definitely better places to grab a bagel and spend a morning. read more

This place just couldn't meet our expectations. The bagels are not worthy the price. With cream cheese they charge $3.50 per bagel. But the taste is worse than the bagels from the franchise Honey Dew or Dunkin' Donuts in the town. Or we could drive a little further to get bagels from Whole Foods. At least we know we are getting what we are paying for.(actually the bagel in Whole Foods is less than $2 each) Don't even get me started on the desserts they are selling there. This is exactly what Ashland needs and with some adjustments I can see myself spending a lot of time here. The interior was beautifully done and has a rustic charm to it. Now lets move on to what really matters, the experience. I went in on Sunday morning for 3 bagels with cream cheese and one iced coffee. First thing I noticed was there was 1 person chit chatting with the customer in front of me after he placed his order, about 5 other employees standing around and me standing there waiting to be greeted and have my order taken. I stood there for about a minute or two until the (I'm assuming) manager came over and told someone to take my order. I ordered an asiago, sesame, and jalapeño cheddar bagels all toasted with chive cream cheese and an iced coffee. The total came to $16. $16?!?!?! for 3 bagels and an (undrinkable, disgusting) iced coffee. The bagels and cream cheese were delicious, though, and thats about it. I've been here about 5 or 6 times. The bagels are good but the cream chase flavors are limited. They only have a couple of flavors 2 or 3 I think. One thing that annoys me is that I've ordered a dozen on the phone bagels 4 times. I usually ask for 3 each of 4 different flavors. Every time, they have been out of one flavor, so the give me 6 cinnamon raisin. It's bad enough they dont tell me they are out even when I pick up the order, or that they are picking which flavor to give me, but if I'm asking for a mix, why are the giving me 6 of the same flavor? Why not give me 4 each of 3 flavors? I don't want 6 of the same kind. Funny thing is its always cinnamon raisin so I'm guessing that is the least popular flavor. I usually spend about $50 between the dozen bagels, cream cheese and I usually pick up 4 egg sandwiches also and leave a big tip on my card. I've had lunch there a few times and its also good. Today I spent a few hours working at The Bagel Table. There was free WiFi, plugs, and nice sturdy tables! They ran out of bagels around 1pm, which may have been because it was school vacation week, or that they were so good. The shop was big, but it seemed like they could have fit more tables. However, there was always an empty table for new guests. I also got a latte, which was good but a little too strong for my taste. I've waited years to write this review in hopes that something within the bagel table would change. Yesterday was kind of it for me. I've been there maybe 30 times, as I live about 3 minutes away. I've never had an experience where I was 100% satisfied or felt I was getting a quality product, but went back out of convenience. My first piece of advice? Steer clear of the coffee. It's bad. Like bad. Makes me sad because they use red barn which I love. If the lattes or coffee weren't "expertly crafted" prices, I'd be more understanding of the bad quality. In terms of the food, I've only really where had bagels, egg sandwiches and they're baked goods. The best is by far the English muffin (which was switched out for a different brand last time I ordered). Outside of that, nothing is really worth the cost. Even the bagels are just okay. The best was when they used to collaborate with the donut supplier, which they no longer do. What ultimately drove me to write this was my experience with the whole 45 minute cut off. The place was empty for the entirety of my time there, and I was still promoted to leave after 45 minutes. It's just bizarre to me. Left an awful taste for sure. My advice? If looking for a good bagel and decent coffee, hop over to new York bagel. Bagel table...please put some work into revamping so that ashland can have a great bagel place! read more

This is a fast review but I'll cut to the chase. I'm all about customer service. I go for the coffee and pastries which, I think are a complement and equal to Panera. For the young people working the counter, when someone says to you, "thank you," your response is not silence, your response is a smile and "your welcome" or, "thanks for coming in" or "nice to see you again." My family and I have visited many times since The Bagel table opened. The coffee is solid, but the bagels and other baked goods are the main draw. We've been familiar with those baked goods for years via the OMG Bagel stall at the Ashland Farmers Market. Simply put, they're great. I find the pricing to be entirely reasonable for the quality of the food & drinks. The staff at The Bagel Table has always been pleasant, and we've felt welcome and comfortable every time we've visited. The space is warm and spacious. So disappointed! I just moved back to Ashland (but have lived up the street forever) and have driven by this place a slew of times since they opened. Every time I drove by, they looked busy, especially on weekend mornings. So this Saturday morning I decided to stop in to see what all the excitement's about. Turns out, nothing. The space is beautiful -- nicely designed, lots of space, sparkling glass cases, but the food displayed in those cases doesn't measure up. The bagels look nice, sure, but the other 50% of the space is filled with what looks to be pre-made, store bought (i.e. vendor-supplied) baked goods that weren't worthy of the space they take up NOR the prices being charged. I ordered a large regular coffee and a muffin and was charged $6.74! The coffee, which is nothing special (mind you, they offer Torani-type flavored syrups, but nothing like mocha or flavored coffees) came in a 12-oz. cup. What should that cost, maybe $2.50? Then the mediocre muffin. Maybe $3? So $5.50 plus tax? THAT would have been acceptable, but $6.74? Are they joking? Turns out, the muffin was tasteless too. But the WORST part of my whole experience, and what prompted me to write this Yelp review, was the UNFRIENDLY service I received. I am a pleasant person. I smile when I walk up to a counter, I say hello. There was a somewhat pleasant young woman who initially greeted me, but within seconds an older, sour-faced woman appeared at the counter and seemed impatient while I placed my order. Mind you, there was NO ONE in line behind me, no one else waiting. When I asked if they had peppermint mocha or anything like that, they scoffed and pointed to the Torani syrups. Guess I'm supposed to be impressed by hazelnut and French vanilla. When I ordered my "large coffee with 1 cream, no sugar" the old woman pointed to a cabinet behind me, where you're supposed to put your own cream and sugar in. That's fine, but she could've been pleasant about it. Instead she ran off to get my muffin and put the bag on the counter without another word -- no thank you, no have a nice day, nothing. That attitude may fly in Chestnut Hill (where their other store is), but it's not gonna fly in Ashland. We are a small, close-knit community and don't need your RUDENESS, nor your overpriced, low value offerings in our neighborhood. I was just at The Muffin House in Hopkinton center (a few miles away) on Christmas Eve, one of their busiest days of the year, and had the opposite experience from the one I had at The Bagel Table -- the staff at The Muffin Shop was gracious, their food was all homemade and really delicious. The bagel table is just what downtown Ashland needed! The interior is beautifully decorated with a modern farmhouse feel and has ample seating. We were there on opening weekend. It was very busy and a bit chaotic, but that's to be expected on the first Saturday of business. We waited in line for about 15 minutes, ordered 3 bagels as is, a tub of cream cheese, one muffin, one piece of coffee cake and two iced coffees. After paying, we were instructed to tell a man (who I think is the owner) which bagels we wanted, but the line was blocking the bagels so it was a bit of a mess to get our bagels..I'm sure this system will improve over time. The iced coffee was delicious as was the blueberry muffin. coffee cake was just ok, and the bagels were good but could have been a little more fresh. The cream cheese was very good! Once they work out some kinks, they'll be a 5-star spot. We will definitely return, as it is within walking distance from our house! read more

How does a bagel place run out of lox by 8:30am on a Sunday morning (and on prior visits, run out of bagels around the same time)? They (mistakenly and unbeknownst to us) made our order twice (which may explain how they run out of food so quickly!) and unfortunately got it all wrong both times. The staff is friendly and seems to genuinely mean well, but that doesn't fix multiple incorrect orders over multiple different visits. I honestly can't speak to the quality of their food when they get the order correct because I can't recall that happening. We've tried this place at least a handful of different times, but our patience has run out and we won't be trying them again. read more

I went and ordered a bagel with lox spread and went back to my car. I open the package and the spread has a ton of raw red onion in it. Some people may like that but I really dislike onions. The board doesnt mention onions and I have never had a lox spread like this before. I was pretty upset. I walked back in and said 'I cant eat this'. The girl at the counter was pretty dismissive but the person making the food was quick to help resolve the issue. She made me a new sandwich immediately and even upgraded a bit to make the situation better. It was all very kind and good customer service. The shop itself is clean and new, with plenty of light and space; therefore pretty pleasant place to be. Kind of like starbucks with more space but somehow less character. A pretty good assortment of pastries and bagels. I tried the house coffee and a sesame bagel with butter. Neither were great, but they were acceptably good. I've read the reviews critical of the high prices, but for the above cost about $5, which is reasonable. I would have hoped that the staples would be great, which they were not, but it is certainly a pleasant and reasonable place. read more

The bagels are good if you get them to go. Here's how they can improve: -toast the bagels wayyy longer. They don't toast them enough -tomatoes were mealy and gross -service is slow and not particularly friendly -have more tables. The giant kitchen tables are a waste of space. We've had an issue both times we were in on a weekend getting a seat -put up signage on bigger tables they aren't for one person read more

The interior of this store is beautiful but as others have pointed out it is very overpriced compared to surrounding small bagel shops, Dunkin' Donuts, and Starbucks. Just under $8 for an iced coffee and plain bagel. Bagel was pretty good, coffee was ok. They put a TON of cream cheese on the bagel so maybe ask for it on the side.
