The shining achievement of this restaurant/bar is the building itself. It's beautifully restored and has a great vibe. We were so excited to try the Bad Seed. We had heard great reviews for it. The building is great. Loved the decor. That's where the love ends. Four tables of people when we arrived. Not busy at all. It was taco Tuesday. Right away we were told they were out of pork carnitas. They had been open for only an hour and a half. Poor planning apparently. Service was ok. One wait staff that night. We waited for over an hour for our food--tacos on taco Tuesday. A couple that were seated some time after us got served before we did. When our food finally arrived it was COLD. Went at 4:30pm on a Tuesday. 4 of us dining for a birthday. Only customers the entire 1.5 hours there, but the service was very lacking. Margaritas were so sweet and unable to finish. This is definitely not a Mexican restaurant, although the menu is Mexican. We don't get the opportunity to go out to eat, and this was not money well spent. The bill was that of a high dining establishment. There were several employees there, but didn't seem to notice we were there, as if maybe they were preparing for an event. Will not return. I was expecting this to be a pretty good place based on the rating and how busy the bad seed is all the time. I was unpleasantly surprised by the almost one hour wait, taken to a table finally after asking them ourselves, and left with no silverware, but were given waters and drinks by an incredibly nice server. Then waited a while for horrible, horrible food. Did not even finish all of it and definitely did not take the rest as leftovers. The building was nice, and a couple servers were kind, but by the rest we were rudely ignored. I tried this restaurant for the first time last time. The shrimp taco was the best taco I have ever had in my life. It was amazing. The sides...not so much. I ordered the Smashed Graten Potates (they came out looking very dark brown and not very cheesy at all) and the mac and cheese, which again really lacked the cheesiness that you look for in this dish. The waitress was Katie, who was very friendly. However, didn't come back to refill my drink and had to be called over (literally) after 30 minutes. The ambiance was awesome. So we loved the building, loved the inside atmosphere. 7 of us went on Tuesday and were looking forward to supporting a new restaurant. The 7 of us said we wouldn't come again. I understand it's only been open 1 month and we hope they will figure a few things out. 1. Parking 2. Food- salsa was great but only 3 small tortillas served with an order. Tortillas are inexpensive should have at least 6 per serving. 3. Drinks were weird tasting. On draft beers warm. Although the waitress did bring 1 on the house beer. 4. All the food dishes were not good tasting. Rice was ridiculously hard and a very very small clump. You couldn't stick a fork in it. For me the medallion pork was tender but had too much smoke flavor. What a unique restaurant! This "haunted gothic library" was super fun and creepy. The atmosphere gave me total American horror story vibes. The menu is tex mex, and we tried the salsa, queso, and enchiladas. Food was good! All of the servers were great!! My wife and I stopped in here on Friday evening for dinner. This repurposed old library building has an eclectic haunted feel, very cool. We ordered a couple of their specialty drinks; I had "the devil was at his elbow" - mescal, habanero-honey syrup, peach bitters, unusual and tasty. Mary had the" blood meridian" - gunpowder tea rye, lime syrup, Campari, also unusual but tasty. Mary had the enchiladas, smoked brisket, corn tortillas, ranchera sauce, cotija, pickled onion, rice and beans; delicious, everyone should try this!! I ordered the torta - smoked brisket on a bolillo roll, lakewolf creamery oaxacan cheese, ancho mayo, pickled red onion, along with a chipotle jus for dipping, and a habanero slaw; the roll was fresh and lightly toasted, the cheese was melted and tasty, the brisket was a little overcooked and on the dry side, the chipotle jus was interesting. I like spicy and mild heat, but this habanero slaw was flaming hot and should come with a warning of personal danger. The staff was very friendly, though I wish Veronica could have stopped by!! The food was amazing! We tried the huevos rancheros (huge portion with these incredible black beans), the enchiladas (with the brisket, again the black beans), and the torta (pork). We also sampled their riff on chips and salsa and a salmon tostad (think like a Latin take on bagels and lox where the bagel is a tostada shell. They are still new and figuring out the service, but honestly, the food was so good, I barely noticed slips or misses on the table service. read more

We heard about this place from a friend of ours and thought we would try it for ourselves. We showed up on Tuesday so it has to be about the tacos right? Wow! The flavors were perfect. Brisket, steak, carnitas, and shrimp all with just amazing flavor. If you want a little more they have their own signature hot sauce that is really delicious. The building with its historic, hand carved beams has lots of character and the decor is interesting, just bordering tasteless which exactly what one would expect with the moniker. The cocktails were unbalanced the parking was horrible the server complain to us about a separate table and the food was not prepared very well. The bad seed unfortunately delivered as it's name sake suggested, it was just bad. We has been looking forward to eating there since the reviews were good, but sadly that is not the experience we had. The place is set up very hip. It was a pleasing space and sevice was decent. The issue was the food. All three of our dishes were almost inedible. Not only were our chips stale and hard, but the salsa was made out of a thick tomato paste that was goopy like pudding. Nothing fresh about it. It seems the chef favors this ingredient since the smear of sauce I had on my enchiladas was also a heavily laden with tomato paste and not at a "sauce". I moved on to my sides from there, and was greeted with undercooked, underseasoned rice (litterally hard spots of grains) and a smashed them fried baked potatoe who was masquerading as an gratin. It seems whoever wrote the menu wasn't the chef. I imagine whomever was cooking must lack the experience to execute anything on there. We paid, and left hungry. First time my wife and I have been here. Wonderful atmosphere with attentive and prompt service. The drinks were delicious. Saying that, both my wife's and my dinner were not good. My shrimp and cheesy grits was very, very salty to the point of being inedible. Her pork tenderloin was very tough and difficult to cut. It also had a ton of salt which made it difficult to eat. So today we decided to try here for the first time. We love to try new places and support local, small businesses. Outside looks neat but the inside is very dark at night. Staff was definitely friendly, dining area wasn't very clean unfortunately. We had to wait on a table to be cleaned and then were seated at a wet table. Ordered Sprites and water and the Chips and Cheese appetizer. Sprite was terribly flat and water tasted like what I would get from my garden hose. The Cheese dip had decent flavor and was extremely rich. It became very glue like after about 15 minutes. The chips had a tasty seasoning but unfortunately everything else seemed to have the same seasoning on it. Also, when the appetizer was brought out the large tostada chips slid off the plate and the server started to use her bare hands to slide them back on. Which I intervened quickly to do myself. I also witnessed the main cook handling what appeared to be ready to eat foods with bare hands. I ordered the Shrimp, Pork and Cheese Grits. Shrimp was delightful but the Pork, AuJus and Grits were tasteless. Grits had zero cheesiness. I had to get a salt shaker, which was filthy just to add flavor to the rest of my food. Dish was a honestly a huge disappointment. My wife tried the 3 taco entree. She chose one of each taco except for the Tofu. She said everything on the plate was one note. Just different textures. I really wanted to like it here and had people I know recommend it. Not sure if this was an off day but we will never know as I can't see us ever going back after today.
