Atmosphere: it is what you'd expect from a taco bar. It's a nice open space, good number of TVs if you want to watch the game. The bar area itself is fairly small. They also have a very large outdoor area that I look forward to trying out when it's warmer. Service: Our server was also the bartender and often we were waiting for some time. Out of the 20 Mexican Restaurants in Spokane that I have tried this is the best! We ate there this week and had chips and salsa on the table by the time we sat down. Be sure to request the hottest dip they have which there is no other like it. I got the Holy Taco, shrimp, and mahi mahi. It is very flavorful and fresh. They kept my water glass full and gave us more chips. The server checked in a few times to make sure all was good. Food was served fast along with the 15 other tables on a weekday lunch (popular). On top of all that I know they are involved with schools, community, and helping he less fortunate. I prefer the Northside location. Stopped in to grab a bite to eat after my mom had eye surgery, and she deaf, so the best way to communicate with her is to write things down. The menu was hard for her to read, since it's so dark. The waiter wasn't happy that I had to write things down to see what she wanted to eat, he became inpatient and walked away. If he had waited a second, we would have ordered right away. I had to go find the waiter. The bartender took our order but didn't write it down. The bartender and waiter acted as if it was their first day on the job. As I was guiding my mom out of the restaurant, along Hamiliton (very busy no matter the time of day) so she wouldn't slip into traffic. I realized that we had left our doggie bag on the table. Arrived at 5:50pm on a busy evening but were seated promptly at one of the last couple tables available. We sat for about 10 min before a waitress came by and brought chips and salsa saying our waitress would be by soon. Another 10 minutes and our waitress arrived to take our drink order. I almost finished a full glass of water before our drinks came back and food was ordered. Food was great but also took awhile to come out! I understand a busy evening but it was long. Bottom line our service was subpar. Our waitress spent the vast majority of time on the patio seating and the inside tables were secondary. Her partner apologized for the wait several times to neighboring tables and was much more attentive to her patrons. We didn't get out of there until almost 7:30pm seeing many other folks come and go. Just left after our second time here in two weeks and will not be returning anytime soon due to how awful our experience was today. Waiter gave us menus and had us choose where we'd like to sit, but then nobody came to even take our drink order until I asked who was going to be serving us (at that point it had been at least 20 mins). Apparently there was a miscommunication between servers as to who had our table; that's understandable, it happens. For the rest of our time there the service was terrible. We kept having to flag our waiter down for everything we needed because she'd never intentionally come to our table to see how we were doing or if we were ready to order anything. We finally just gave up trying, waited 35mins for her to get our check, paid and left without ordering anything other than appetizers. First time back since they reopened, the food was great, but the service was not all that good, I sat at a table on the inside of the restaurant rather than on the patio, that was a mistake, my server was also the bartender, she spent more time behind the bar making drinks for the other servers, than on the floor, I was the only person eating inside, so for this my service was very slow and not good, I sat there wondering waiting for to come over and ask if I needed anything and wanted another beverage, she did after I was done eating. I had a chile relleno and while the batter was good, they had not cleaned the chile; it was full of seeds and ribs. In spite of asking for straws 3 times, the waitress never brought any to our table. There was a table of 2 people in the dining room a guy at the bar and 8 people on the patio so I don't know what was taking so long. When no other food was coming out of the kitchen. The bartender Derek who does the to go orders was more interested in joking with his buddy at the bar about how they call this woman jugs and eating chips behind the bar instead of doing his job. I have loved Deleon's for years and I always get their chicken nachos. I'm not sure if they hired new chefs but recently they've started putting this queso sauce on them that makes them so much worse. I have requested the last three times I went that they leave it off because it's not listed as an ingredient on the menu and I really don't like it. I have been assured that they're not supposed to be made like that and they'll make sure it's off but all three times my nachos came with this cheese sauce. It changes the entire dish for the worse and I'm not sure why they keep putting it on when it isn't on the menu ESPECIALLY when I have asked for it without several times. Food: I used to love this place. I've been to this location at least five times bringing friends & family. Even went for Spokane's most recent restaurant week. I always ordered a variety of street tacos and they were always crispy, juicy and packed with flavor. My trip tonight was far from all the great experiences I had in the past. I ordered my usual tacos, while my girlfriend and her mother ordered fajitas and shrimp camarones. The pork cactus tacos and stewed pork taco were actually pretty good. The carne asada taco I ordered had no browning on the meat, salt & tasted like there was no butter cooked with it which is used with any carne asada recipe. I got two chorizo tacos which is usually my absolute favorite and it started with the great savory flavor I'm used to but then I noticed a very sweet, aromatic flavor which I'm very confident was cinnamon. I had my girlfriend try the carne asada and chorizo tacos to see if I was crazy and she also believes there was cinnamon used in both the carne asada and chorizo which I've never seen be used in a restaurant claiming Mexican authenticity. Maybe I'm wrong, but it tasted more like someone was throwing faint amounts of random seasonings and trying to experiment. The camarones were extremely disappointing. The shrimp came in a very liquified butter sauce that tasted like it had no salt whatsoever. Typically this type of shrimp in my past experiences is covered in some type of parsley or cilantro. The shrimp did not have any browning or crisp to it & even the butter garlic sauce tasted like it had zero seasoning or even something simple as salt. The texture of the shrimp was decent, slightly on the rubbery side. The fajitas my girlfriend's mother ordered did not have much seasoning either. The meat had some crisp to it, but the peppers and onions that came with it had no salt or other seasoning. The waitress we had brought us water right away but it was lukewarm tap water when we noticed other guests were being served the regular ice water that we're all familiar with being given at restaurants. Our drinks were good which I've always had great experiences with the margaritas. Service: There were three of us who came to eat tonight. I went to the restroom before sitting down to wash my hands before eating and they only brought two menus. Obviously we can all understand why two menus are brought over if the waiter sees two people. When my girlfriend mentioned there was a third, she explained the waiter gave a look towards her that was super inconveniencing for him to take another twenty steps to get another menu. Our waitress started off decently friendly, but it was close to the end of her shift. We made the stupid decision ourselves to order something for our family member to go because he was unable to join us for dinner due to some medical issues and we waited roughly twenty five minutes for one simple burrito to be brought to us. My assumption is over waitress was not happy with receiving a lower tip due to our experience and that was her payback. We watched her walk out of the restaurant when her shift ended and we still had not received the to-go order. I finally became annoyed with the wait time and went and told a male waiter we have been waiting for a to-go order and he immediately said "oh yeah" and grabbed it off a counter that I could see the food had been sitting on in plain sight if I had just went up and asked earlier. I didn't receive an apology or anything and the food was already lukewarm. This leads me to believe they were not happy with the low tip and purposefully wasted our time making us sit there and wait for food. While we waited, nobody came over to ask if we needed anything else or if we were just enjoying our night out. Ambiance: It's what you expect. I see other reviews complaining about noise or the area being crowded, but that's what I expect any good restaurant to be like. They have many TVs that have various different sports on and everything is spaced out to where you're not sitting on top of other guests. Overall: Due to the drastic change of flavors in the food and the lack of the basics involved in Mexican cuisines like something as simple as salt, and the extremely poor service and sense of entitlement, I'll never go to this location again. Hopefully others who try this location have a better experience and maybe they're trying new things to see what might be trendy, but this is a hard pass for me and I'll never recommend this location again. read more
