The Backstretch is one of my favorite places to grab a quick bite to eat. It's casual inside so I don't feel like a fool for getting dinner in a sweatshirt and everyone has always been exceptionally friendly. They change their menu seasonally but there are always good staples on there like their jalapeno poppers (they're the best I've ever had), wings, sandwiches and fries. This is one of our favorite restaurants in town. They put a twist on your average pub food. The wings are amazing and we love the creative seasonal menus that switch things up. I love the different beers on tap and the bar tenders and servers are great. If we can't decide where to go out to eat, this is always a default. I will add, they have a small kitchen and it is an old building that does not have a lot of lighting, just keep an open mind! Sometimes the service is a little slower than your average restaurant, but it is well worth the wait! read more

Favorite hang out spot in college. Was so excited when Joanne and Kyle announced they were serving food in 2014. We come back every time for the tater tots, best in town and IMO Columbus area. They have a solid chicken bacon ranch with homemade ranch and a great Caesar salad wrap. read more

Both my wife and I agree we should visit this cool little dive bar more often. Last night's dinner was very satisfying, starting with a pint of Epic Imperial Pumpkin porter. Nitrogen-infused, creamy head and subtle pumpkin & spice flavor without being too sweet or bitter. Be careful though - 8% ABV. But best fall season beer I've had this year. We also had the deviled eggs as an app and weren't disappointed. I'd come back just for them - seriously. I opted for a Butter Burger, very flavorful, big, juicy and cooked perfectly. The standard house-made chips were very crispy and well-seasoned, but the dip was just OK. My wife had the Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. Service was good for a busy Saturday night at 6:30PM. Our server was very friendly and was helpful in explaining their draft beer selection. read more

Homely, local bar. Great food, friendly family feel staff. My favourite bar in Delaware. The owner is lovely, really friendly and dedicated to the place. Serves Smith & Forge - my favourite cider and BBC bourbon ale. As well as a large spirits selection. I've not eaten here - but I saw they changed the menu recently. I once went and had a sandwich that went a little like this: glazed donut split in half, layer of orange marmelade, brie cheese, egg over-easy, and bacon, all grilled and pressed together. YES! My husband and I had mixed feelings after our first visit here. We started out with the house-made tator tots with the beer cheese dip and chipotle ketchup and they were by far the best part of the meal- super delicious! For our meal, my husband got the butter burger and I got the wings. Both were of decent quality but didn't wow us. My husband tried to order the Mac and cheese instead of chips for his side but there was apparently some misunderstanding because we received and were charged for both. The mac and cheese was such a let down- very dry and not cheesy at all. Shame we were charged the extra $5 bucks for it! The bacon (a $2 up charge) my husband requested on his burger was also left off, but we had that removed from the bill before paying. Service was generally good other than the order confusion. Overall though, I think we would only come back for appetizers and drinks. read more

One of the worst restaurants I've ever ordered food from. I can't believe there are so many good reviews for this place. I ordered lunch for my family, six people. One chicken sandwich looked like it was fried & then refried; Tough meat & tasted burnt. I took one bite & couldn't eat anymore of it. The second chicken sandwich was grilled but did not have a good flavor. The hamburger was mediocre (my father-in-law wouldn't finish it) & the chips for each meal were burnt. The rest of the meals weren't any better. We will not return here. Not one person out of six liked their food. Huge waste of greater than $50! read more

Cold beer and great staff. Food is creative, but slow to come out and some aspects miss the mark. Meat loaf is good, waffle not so much. Wings are good, if the right why came to table. Rubin is tastie is bread wasn't soggy from sitting waiting for other food. Kitchen in middle of bar/restaurant needs enhanced if they really want to serve food well. read more

The food was exceptional. Not at all what you would expect from a small bar. The grilled cheese may have been the best I have ever eaten. We had hush puppies as an app. A little over cooked but the dipping sauce was out of this world. Served with house made chips and French onion dip. Chips were good but the dip was excellent. It did take a very long time to get our food and it was not at all busy. Don't go if you are in a hurry, but definitely go at some point. read more

Visited The Backstretch for the first time last night and was very disappointed. It is of course a dive bar so it is not much to look at but the menu sounded delicious. We ordered the chicken and waffle croquettes as an appetizer. They came out burnt and very greasy. The flavor was alright once I peeled off the greasy outside. We also ordered a basket of dill fries. The fries came out just caked in the dill seasoning and the fries were just limp like they weren't cooked all the way through. For our main course I ordered the mac n cheese dog and my husband got the wings. The wings were very salty but that is to be expected for a dry rub. I really liked my hot dog. The mac and cheese was delicious and I enjoyed how they cut the dog in half and grilled it. I unfortunately did not enjoy the dish it came out on. It was in this tray with paper lining which would have been fine except I cut my hot dog up since it was too big to pick up and eat so the paper got all tore and the mac and cheese was falling through and I know I ended up eating some paper. The chips that came with them also came out very greasy and dark like the oil was old. All in all it was just not a pleasant experience food wise. Our server was friendly though and we did not have to wait too long on our food. the prices are also reasonable for bar food. I would definitely get the dog again just not order anything fried and ask for it to be served on a regular plate. read more

Dive old-school college bar with great food. Place has a lot of history. Flat top grill/kitchen is right in middle of bar Eclectic food choices. Multiple craft beers on tap. Try the ghost pepper cheese on anything - from burgers to grilled cheese melts. Ghost burger is pretty amazing. Happy hour is 4-7 weekdays but not sure what the deal is - domestics are 2.50 to 3. Stopped in to grab lunch and loved it! Looks and feels like a local college bar. Pleasantly, the food was delicious! The menu had some classic bar items but also creative twists. The Backstretch is a classic bar on Sandusky Street. It is great for the college kids as well as locals. It is truly the place to meet. Drinks are as cheap as it gets, and there are rotating daily specials. The staff can be a little snooty, and it can take way too long to get a drink on a Friday or Saturday night. The atmosphere is fun, and there are booths to bring your drinks and hang out. When it gets too crowded you know its time to go check out another bar or restaurant to get food-- besides from some microwavable appetizers and bags of chips you will not be able to eat here. read more

The restaurant listed "farm to table" on the website so we drove 30 miles to try out the food and drink. We had a whiskey sour drink which was a heavy pour. The potato chips were deep fried but not crispy. We had the cheese inside burger, but the cheese was on the top, not inside. The turkey melt was ok. Each meal came with a deviled egg, which was awesome! The overall atmosphere was a small bar with mostly people drinking. read more

This restaurant's sandwiches are pretty good! Prices are OK, and the homeade tater-tots are to die for! They even have a modern jukebox and new board games to play while you wait for the food! The service is very good also! The clubhouse is small, but pretty awesome! You have a view of the street below. The chips and the bathrooms are pretty gross though.
