After the Delaware Farmer's Market, my wife and I wanted to rewind time at this old school diner. Leave it to us to go to a place called Hamburger Inn and not get a hamburger. And I think that might have been our downfall. We went the breakfast route and started with a Cinnamon roll made right on the griddle. It created this crispy char that gave the roll more of a funnel cake texture. Unique,and the icing definitely enhances it (as it does most cinnamon rolls). Their special breakfast sandwich, "The Morning Wake-up" touts a "2x the size English Muffin" and they were not lying. This sandwich had cheese, multiple meats and vegetables, and I needed to take half of it home due to sheer size. What it didn't have... sauce. What it needed... sauce, syrup, aioli or something to lubricate all of those toppings. The breakfast potatoes on the side needed salt/seasoning/sauce, too, to be more to my liking. It was a similar experience with my wife's Reuben and the fries that she ordered; the sandwich had its moments, but it made me wish one of us got a burger like most of the other patrons. read more

People were pleasant and the fries tasty, however, I ordered my burger well-done/no pink and it came looking nicely prepared, 1/2 inch thick but when I cut into it ... it was pink throughout. Person who I think may have been manager or owner was apologetic and took it back to get me one that was cooked and upon return it was replaced with a strange super thin patty (less than 1/4 inch think) ... like half the amount of meat! It was cooked through, but how could it not be ... as it was soooo thin! My husband hypothesizes they just smashed it to get it cooked all the way through but the circumference was still the same ... I think they gave me some sort of cheap children's mini patty. Felt like a diet rationed plate! Not likely to return to this place. They word "hamburger" is in the name for a reason! We had a Western burger and fries, it was excellent! Perfectly-cooked, topped with bacon and onion rings. The side of fries were perfect, make sure you douse them with malt vinegar to have the optimal experience. The menu is fun and creative, offering both coffee and beer, and the house cinnamon rolls are absolutely to die for. The restaurant has been around since 1932, and it's easy to see why. Under new management for a while now. Love they have upgraded some of the outdoor furniture and brought back the chicken fried steak but it's hard to get out of there for similar items we used to get there for under $15-17 a person. Add tip and it gets pretty pricey. Food is still good but the new pricing will limit us from frequency. read more

Hubby had a full order of biscuits and gravy - it was HUGE! He really liked the dish, and was happy to bring home one biscuit with gravy from the four in the order. MIL had pancakes and sausage, the sausage looked homemade - she said it was a little spicy and VERY good. I had the breakfast sammie - TOTALLY DELISH! Had a Monday off so we visited Hamburger Inn for breakfast. I'd definitely describe this as more of a dive, it's pretty small and unassuming, and dimly lit. The tables are bars kind of in an S shape and the stools are bolted down. When we arrived we were greeted and told to sit wherever, it wasn't very busy so we had no problem finding a spot. I have menu anxiety, so of course I already had decided what to get before arriving so we ordered right away after we got drinks. Service was fast and the prices were cheap. The food was delicious. We had a cinnamon rolled, warmed up. It was so good, well balanced and not overly sweet. For my main I had the bacon ham and cheddar scramble, it was HUGE. Very tasty, I love the style of their fried potatoes, they're like crispy slices. My husband had the lumberjack with over medium eggs, a nice size portion. Delicious pancakes. We really enjoyed our breakfast, I can definitely see why it's packed on the weekends. Hamber Inn is a diner serving all threwmeals. Free street parking and 3 U shaped counters open to the kitchen for the wait staff to serve everyone easily. Each "island" has 13 stools bolted to the floor. Seat yourself when you enter. I saw people shifting left or right to help accommodate groups. The menu made comment to their famous cinnamon rolls My husband began to drool immediately and we ordered one. It was a 2 layered pancake like roll smothered in icing. I could smell the sweetness! He said it was fantastic! The menu offered a wide range of diner food, they had 4 draft beers on tap and milkshakes. But we were there for breakfast. Everything walking past me looked fabulous! My son would love the Lumberjack! Pancakes,eggs, potatoes, meat. I'm excited to come back with him. Hubs ordered the western omlet. 3 eggs, large chunks of ham, plus green pepper and onions and American Cheese. A definite "order again". I indulged in the Gravy Train Omlet. Also 3 eggs, crumbled sausage, American cheese smothered in sausage gravy. The Gravy was heavy with sausage and made with a noticable amount of black pepper just the way I like it!. So good! I would also order this again! Beverages were served in large red cups. The Hamburger Inn sold ads space for local businesses in the cups: smart! My only complaint is that their straws were too short. I had to fish my straw out of the cup to sip my water. First world problems, I know! After my disappointment with Rutherford Cafe my wife and I dared venture into Delaware again on our visit to Ohio and boy were we pleasantly surprised by the Hamburger Inn. Just a simple old style burger joint! The burgers were hot, fresh and very flavorful. The fries were like fair fries and they even had malt vinegar to sprinkle on. The best part of the meal was the cinnamon bun for desert.....hands down the best cinnamon bun I have ever had. I can't do justice in words how good these things are. They also serve breakfast and I can tell you that on my next day off I am driving up there just to try their breakfast and have another of those cinnamon buns. First time in for quite a while. Used to be a regular. Came in today to catch all the activity downtown. Ordered western omelet, home fries, sausage gravy and sausage links with water. Heavy, older, tattooed woman in black shirt working the back was my waitress. She promptly brings me coffee which I did not order. I repeat that I ordered water and left the coffee sit. She brings me the water. The food was fine and go to leave. They don't have one person at the cash register, the waitress needs to come and check you out. I look at the bill and it shows 2.50 for coffee I didn't ask for and didn't drink. Waitress tries to assure me it was taken off and that the total was fine. I left highly doubtful of her honesty. The total bill was $25 and change. That seemed pretty compared to BE or Scramblers. It's a hassle to park and get there and I will be crossing them off the list. read more

First went to the Hamburger Inn nearly 50 years ago, and just about lived there in my college days at OWU. Have stopped in nostogically for 30 years since moving back to the area, and was always pleased with the consistency. Not this trip, last Wednesday. Had the Bacon Blue burger with fries, a cup of chili and coffee. Chili taste was fine, but it was at best lukewarm. Fries were abysmal, limp and oily. Bacon was decent, but the burger patty was dry, and the blue cheese crumbles were tasteless. I have to blame Delaware's nasty iron/sulfur water, but the coffee tasted like crap.
