Strolling down downtown Delaware, we were hankering for breakfast and happened across the 'Fresh start cafe'. I opted for the egg sandwich with sausage - I decided to skip the cheese and requested scrambled eggs but received sunny side up instead. No big deal. The sandwich was nice but not something I would be impatiently waiting to order again. I took a bite of K's Biscuit sandwich with bacon and jalapeno poppers. That was was the standout dish! Now I was really having buyer's remorse. The coffees were pretty good too. Well, this is the third coffee shop in downtown Delaware I have tried and I found my favorite. Great coffee and specialty drinks, and amazing food. Food is made fresh to order in back kitchen and was delicious. Very clean food prep and dining areas. Staff was polite and very informative about their menu. They took the time to customize my order. I got a large iced shaken espresso with Carmel drizzle and oat milk and my husband got a large iced chai latte. He always gets the egg scramble with ham and Swiss and devours it every time. I had a little cheesecake from here a few months ago and I could tell it was frozen. I'm not sure about the other pastries in the case but I won't be getting the mini cheesecake again. On the same block as the hamburger Inn is a wonderful bakery and coffee shop called fresh start Café and Bakery. We discovered them quite by accident. Usually, I go to coffee place had been carphology, but the last two trips to Delaware coffee had been weirdly closed or had weird hours leaving us stranded in the city without coffee. We did a yelp search and found that there was a coffee shop less than a block away, which was fresh start café so we cross the street and walked a half a block to a tiny storefront located in the middle of the block. We walked in and we're completely impressed just from the moment we stepped in. Super clean shop, bright and cheerful big goods displayed in an organized, easy to see manner in two or three large cases. The quality of the baked goods looked excellent. We looked up and there was just so many menu items all easy to read on the menu board that hung on the wall behind the counter. We decided to get some baked goods, a breakfast sandwich and two coffees, and we didn't regret any of it. They were all beyond five stars What did we get you might ask? We got: A bacon egg and cheese biscuit: really high-quality bacon so flavorful very generous amount egg was a fresh egg cracked there cooked their fresh. The perfect amount of cheese on top of a house made biscuit that was a good size and quite flavorful. We wanted to split the biscuit and they even wrapped it in two separate halves outstanding customer service outstanding presentation And just the perfect egg sandwich. In my opinion. Haven't had one better in Columbus area, which I include Delaware in (even though it's not) Then we got a spinach roll and a pepperoni roll to eat later both excellent the pepperoni roll was a little better than the spinach roll, but I bet the spinach roll would've been amazing if I had eaten it there warmed up... I was at a dog show, and I ate it the way they gave it to me, which was out of the case Still delicious We got a cut out cookie. I'm glad I took a bite of it when I first got it cause it was quite excellent, however, it sat in the car, which then got really hot, so the icing didn't do so great after eight or nine hours inside a hot car so I pitched it which was aa tragedy... Because the initial to buy, it were delicious Our coffees I got a pumpkin spice latte half sweet made with soy. It was great. I enjoyed every little tiny drop of it which I usually don't do. I usually drink half and pitch. This was worth every bit of calories. I think my husband got an Americano or a dark drip with cream. I can't remember but his was gone almost by the time we got to the car he said it was excellent. If you're in Delaware, there's three coffee options all within two blocks of each other and I'm telling you this spot... It's the home run. This is where you should end up at. Stopped on a road trip, I really prefer better coffee than what the national chains can offer. This place is fantastic! Our family tried the Chai muffin, salted chocolate chip cookies and the best maple oat scone I've had outside of my own kitchen! The coffee was full bodied and complex. The New Orleans coffee has a deep tangy earthy side, followed by a sweetness that was just the perfect balance. If you are headed to/from Columbus, it's a quick turn off of 23, and there is a public lot in the back with a rear entrance for avoiding parallel parking! I stopped by to grab a bite. I usually get coffee here and so glad to try their sandwich line up. Each of them sounds unique and you can select either with bagel or biscuit. I got the Club sandwich with biscuit. Club sandwich is always one of favorite and having it with their biscuit just take it to another level. The crust is crisp and cheesy and soft on the inner part. Along with the different classic layer of the Club sandwich. Highly recommended. The also have a full line up of pastry and sweets available. Of course, their coffee menu can't be forgotten. Popped into Fresh Start for the first time today after breakfast. The sign out front featured Apple pie chai and I just had to try it. The cafe is a nice size and bright, with good seating areas. We were promptly greeted and gave our orders, the service was very fast. If I hadn't already eaten I would have tried one of the amazing looking pastries, but now I have another excuse to come back. The iced apple pie chai was good, but the chai flavor could have been stronger. It looks like they serve Crimson Cup coffee, which is always pretty solid. Glad to have discovered a new little cafe and can't wait to try more of their offerings. read more

Stopped here after church around 11:30AM on Sunday. There was outdoor seating available to enjoy the beautiful weather. We ordered the egg scramble and egg, bacon, and egg bagel sandwich. The made to order food came out fresh and hot, at almost the same time as our drinks. We ordered a dark roast coffee, iced matcha with oat milk and lavender syrup added, and a honey, blackberry, and lemon latte for drinks. Service was AMAZING! Very cute bakery and cafe. The service was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a red eye with an extra espresso shot and learned that it's called a black eye. Who knew? I'm always learning. We had the egg bowls which is 4 eggs and 4 toppings and it was very well cooked and seasoned. I could have used a little more spinach but, overall, I was very happy and very full. Was excited to check out a new coffee shop on the Delaware coffee trail. The menu boards were malfunctioning so it really wasn't possible to see what the available options were. While talking to the staff member, another staff member came up and interrupted the conversation by asking about charging their phone. On too of that, the drink ended up being sub par. I ended up pouring it out and going to Coffeeology across the street, which was a much better drink. I will say that the pastries looked delicious, and some of the teas they had for sale smelled really good. read more

So we looked around and found this place! We go inside and get to meet the friendly staff! As we go in we are in awe with all the amazing choices they have!!! Cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, croissants, just plain DELICIOUSNESS!!!!! We get a whole lot of things to try!! The friendly staff let us decide because it was hard. We got a lot of things to try since it was so difficult. This cute bakery is located in the heart of downtown Delaware which gave us an opportunity to drop in right after lunch. Everything is baked on-site, which is always a good sign. I hate the stuff that's made elsewhere; it's never as fresh. I loved my Cheesecake truffle that was dipped in chocolate. It was incredibly decadent. I only wish I bought a few more for later! I also picked up a salted chocolate chip cookie for my hubby. He said it was incredibly flavorful and moist and that the salt really brought out the flavors. read more

I finally woke up early enough to get to this bakery before all the goodies were gone! I've been following them on social media for awhile and know that everything they make is fresh and baked on site. They have some staples and then frequently switch it up to offer specials on the weekend or even have one-day-only treats make appearances. This is where it's helpful to follow them on social media (they're pretty good about posting drool worthy photos on Instagram!) Anyway, so we finally made it in. It's a clean, bright welcoming space that has seating immediately up front where you order and as well towards the back of the building. I ordered a dirty chai to drink which was pretty good and husband had the coffee (which he said was okay). To eat, there was a cheese and broccoli danish just calling my name. It was very tasty but I think I would've preferred it if it was just a little bit warmed up. My better half got the banana bread cinnamon roll which looked absolutely amazing (I stole a bite - it was as good as it looked!) I can't remember exactly what we spent (I think around $15) so I felt like that was a little expensive for breakfast that didn't really fill us up. It was very good though so I guess if I would've gone into it expecting that, I would've told a different story. They offer a variety of baked goods - savory and sweet - as well as drinks. First time here at 8:20am( they open at 7am) and they were out of quiche . I got the pecan roll for my hubby and he said it was delicious. Very fresh. I got a loaf of spinach/garlic bread and it was okay ( cost same as pecan roll). Guess I'll come back closer to when they open and hopefully they will have the quiche. read more

A solid coffee shop that I frequent several times a week. I have never been disappointed--only sad at the times they have run out of their Energy Squares. In the colder months I usually get their coffee, which is high quality and affordable, and in the warmer summer months I'll get their cold brew or New Orleans Iced Coffee. The owners and baristas are nice, care about their customers and make their baked goods fresh, in house. I would highly recommend! I was busy paying and didn't notice they gave me a burned pastry. It was bitter and ultimately inedible. Their pastries aren't cheap but are usually worth it. I am super impressed with what downtown Delaware is turning into, and it's places like Fresh Start that are adding to this impressive change! Fresh start has amazing coffee, pastries, cakes as well as many tables and seating to allow patrons to hang out and get some work done. The employees are super friendly and seem to know many of the customers on a first-name basis. The cinnamon rolls are absolutely delicious, they easily compete with the famous hamburger inn cinnamon roll which is right next door! As the name suggests, everything is made fresh here. It's also wonderfully delicious. The minor downside as another reviewer noted is the pricing, but when you look back in the kitchen and see them working away to make everything it's actually pretty reasonable. We're just used to so many mass produced/frozen pastries around here that we forget what it takes to really make good pastry. Decor is a little mainstream and bland, but they're just starting out and they've got the most important things (pastries and coffee) right.
