Cute cafe with so many sweet options it's overwhelming (in a good way)! The service was a bit slow as there was only 1 staff and they were training 2 people at the same time (not complaining, they were very friendly and helpful but 2 people in front of me left.) there was a big line of flavored syrups on the wall and I was excited but a little disappointed to learn they only offered 3 sugar free kinds (vanilla, caramel and lavender). Ice latte was good but omg the pistachio mascarpone croissant and gluten free chocolate cake...I didn't taste much pistachio but the mascarpone cream filling was so so tasty and croissant was nice and light and fluffy. Chocolate cake was decadent but not too heavy or sweet. It was amazing! They offer so many sweets and gelato, I will have to visit them again to try different things! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, my experience was a huge letdown. The drink I ordered was completely bitter and undrinkable--I honestly can't tell if it was poorly made cold brew or burnt, bad espresso. While I can't speak to the food or desserts, based on the drinks, this is definitely not a coffee place. Won't be back for coffee. read more

Ciao Cafe. You make delicious cafe lattes and have a wide array of lipsmackingly good pastries! What's not to like? My favourite is the pistachio creme filled croissants, followed closely by the strawberry and cream croissant. They have a wide array of sweet and (I suspect?) savoury bites for your morning breakfast or afternoon pick-me-ups. The decor is nothing to write home about, but it's nice to just sit on the stool, gaze out the window on to the busy streets, and sip your cuppa as you people-watch and munch down on a lovely pastry. read more

Have wanted to try this place for a while as I follow them on Instagram and everything looks so good! It is a cute cafe right in Downtown Delaware and offers some seating inside. They have house made gelatos, pastries, paninis, many drinks, and more. The girl at the counter was super sweet and answered all my questions and made some recommendations when I asked. We went with an iced sweet mocha, which was pretty good. They also sell pumpkin spice lattes and can basically make anything that's not on the menu either to your liking, which is great. I thought it was great that they offer cappuccinos, etc. Italian style. For food, we tried the cookies and cream gelato (small for $5.50, a bit pricey IMO), veggie panini ($10, totally shareable among two, best served after panini press), strawberry marscapone croissant ($6.50), custard filled donut (bombolino, found it to be extremely dry and custard was dried out too, did not finish), and tiramisu (small for $5, made in house, a staff favorite). I appreciated that they make their gelatos, there were several flavors to choose from and you can try before committing. I wanted a meat panini, but all the meat ones had pork in them, so opted for the veggie one, which was great flavor with the cheeses and pesto. The bombolino donut was a fail and the least liked item, I would not get it again. Perhaps, it was an older batch item? The tiramisu was great! Ciao Cafe is my go to when I want something sweet. Their Gelato is amazing. They will always have their standard flavors but do bring in seasonal flavors as well. The pastries are also my go to. I like the long John's. Staff is friendly and passionate about their customers. read more

Always great service from the owners. Best gelato! Tonight I loved their support for Ukraine with their special flavor! Only unfortunate thing has been the discontinuation of the 8 sisters bakery products. 8 Sisters can no longer do wholesale so they had to switch to der dutchman which honestly just isn't as good. I think this place is known for their gelato and coffee but I needed a quick lunch and saw the sign for "panini" - it was so good! Like, I realize this is just a sandwich but it really did taste like every ingredient was freshly made, like it does in Italy! Ciao Cafe has really good gelato and sorbet. It might be the best ice cream in Delaware. They aren't usually busy though. It usually only has you or a couple of other people in it. The staff is helpful in choosing a selection. It has a good selection of flavors. A few change all the time. There's a few sorbettos and these are vegan. I had the wild berry. It's about $6 for a cup. This is a moderate price considering quality. It was a pretty long lasting conversation. They don't pay enough for anyone good to work here. I could get something from here again. It has good vegan options. The sorbettos usually comes in several vegan flavors for you. read more

We stopped in for some goodies and found that this is the cutest little cafe! It's very welcoming and the staff was absolutely wonderful - so friendly and helpful! We were immediately drawn by the case of gelato facing the entrance and eagerly perused all of the options. You can get more than one flavor per cup, and we ended up with chocolate and mint chocolate chip. It comes with a cute little wafer cookie that says Ciao too! Very nice touch. There is also a case full of delectable looking baked goods - cookies, pastries, and the like, from which we selected a baklava. There's a case of sandwiches and also a place to order crepes - the nutella one sounded amazing and it is on the to-try list for the future. We would love to go back for a return visit! read more

What a fun addition to downtown Delaware! We went on Friday night to get gelato after dinner and it was delicious. They had tons of choices and the staff let us sample as many as we liked. We got gelato but I think this place offers tons more like baked goods, coffee, drinks, an overall good assortment of items. It is slightly pricey for ice cream, but keep in mind this is a richer, most delightful experience then just your regular ice cream place. The medium was $6 and the small was $4.50. Wow! The taste is fantastic! This IS the best after dinner treat spot you'll probably find. Decent variety of flavors of Gelato, as well as other baked treats, too. Gourmet coffees are available also. Service was EXTREMELY friendly. They offer free sample tastes as well, in case you can't make a decision. They have a small dine in area, & a table or two outdoors. Prices are a little expensive on the gelato, but the rest is reasonably priced. If you're in this area, stop for a treat. This place is hit or miss. We go here a lot and the quality of the baked goods changes often. At times everything is fresh and original then next time it seems the baked goods are old and thawed out frozen goods. They seem to have a turn over in help. Still worth a try. My wife and I stopped here during the big Delaware Car Show on Saturday, and we had a great experience. I have been to Ciao Cafe several times, both with my wife and alone on the bike, and everything was always top notch. I've had several flavors of their gelato and they are all very tasty. This time I had a sweet cream with dark chocolate bits (sorry, I don't recall the proper Italian name for it), and my wife had the fantastic birthday cake gelato with season-correct Halloween sprinkles. So good! In the past we have also had some of there doughnuts, and I once had a warm puff pastry with spinach and feta and a cup of tea before starting a long morning ride heading north. This place is cozy, and the staff are very friendly. They have decent sidewalk seating as well as lots of seats inside. Gelato portions range from kid-friendly small to big and ridiculous. This was called the "Mean Bean" when I was in college, and it's in such a great spot for university students, residents, and passers-through. I visited last fall and had a nice chat with the owner over some good strong coffee. I was in again last weekend and had friendly service and good coffee. We love the Ciao Cafe! We've been here twice and both times every staff member was incredibly nice and friendly. We tried the gelato the first time we visited and it was so good, especially the pistachio. We visited last week after First Friday and tried the cannolis, Buckeyes and baklava. All of them were so fresh and so good. The Buckeyes are massive and super tasty! They had fritters that were huge and looked really good, so we will have to try those next time. This morning after mass at St. Mary I stopped in for a quick cup of coffee and boy am I happy I did! I had an opportunity to meet Tani (one of the owners) who welcomed and thanked me for coming in. A young lady working behind the counter (didn't catch her name) served me a great cup of their coffee and then offered for me to sample several varieties of house-made gelato that Eva makes fresh every day. I tried the salted caramel and it was fantastic! My wife and I decided to come back after dinner and each enjoyed a cup of gelato. She chose three different flavors in strawberry, lemon and mango...all of which she loved and will get again! I opted for a richer flavor combination with chocolate, salted caramel and a white sweet-cream type of gelato. I was equally as delighted with mine! We're looking forward to trying their sandwiches, wraps and pastries made fresh on future visits. Ciao Cafe is a great addition to downtown Delaware. We're glad they're here!
