Cute little coffee shop in downtown Powell that used One Line Coffee beans. Very small parking lot, and not much space inside to sit either. I ordered the honeycomb latte (honey + vanilla) and it was just okay. The coffee was watered down so it didn't have much flavor. It tasted less like a latte and more like iced coffee. I would definitely come here again. I got stood up for a meeting and yet, it was okay. This place has a great vibe with an amazing crew that seems to welcome locals and outsiders. Not bad. Stopped by to try them out while in the area. I ordered a 12oz mocha with an extra shot, the extra shot was $2. The drink was decent, a little bitter, but definitely strong. With the extra shot though it was a little more expensive than comparable places. Service in the drive thru was fast and friendly. It's not a bad spot, but I don't know that I would go out of my way for it. read more

A staple coffee spot in Powell to say the least. My parents come to Espresso every Saturday and/or Sunday to sit and have coffee together. When I am in town, I am instantly joining them or driving through to get some iced coffee for myself. Their menu is huge with selections of coffees and syrups to make any combination your heart desires. They also have yummy breakfast foods- the muffins are my favorites. The girls who work here are always so kind and seem to enjoy their job which is always a good thing to see in the morning. Could not recommend this little place enough! read more

My husband found this place and we have been getting pickup for a while now. They are currently under renovations and are operating on drive thru only right now. I've only ever had their vanilla latte. The hot and the cold are both wonderful! Great flavor, great coffee and great price! I visited my sister during July 4 holiday. I'm very picky about my coffee and I do not care for the major chains. I googled local coffee houses and this popped up closest to my sister which was about 5 miles away. This place is absolutely amazing. I found this place on my second day and went back every morning. Our local coffee shop in Powell. Happy to bop over here when we need a fix, buy some beans (they will grind for you and give you a discount on your drink!), or get out of the house. They have a nice seating area inside but do not have wall outlets near every seat where you would want them. And def some preferred spots (a bit more private, wall outlets nearby, good seat) and others (the cushy chairs by the bathrooms aren't really designed to sit and work, also not great outlets around there). Last bit (not Espresso 22's fault but) some other customers will come in and be so loud with headphones on and oblivious to you trying to work. read more

Took a venture to Powell Ohio to check out an Antique Mall and of course I find a local coffee shop in what looks like a former bank. Espresso 22 is proudly brewing One Line Coffee and making a tradition macchiato. They have a wide menu of coffees, lattes and cappuccino both hot and iced, with your choice of flavors. They also serve wraps, flatbreads and breakfast sandwiches and a variety of baked goods. The inside is bright and open thanks to all the windows. Real plants around the space add to the peaceful feel. It's very clean and has lots of seating. The barista today was wonderful. She took the time to explain the drinks and all the differences. Thanks for helping to make us better coffee pros! Next time I'm in or heck around Powell, I'll be back to espresso 22. read more

While visiting my cousin long before COVID, we spent an afternoon antique shopping. The best way to wrap up our day was with delicious lattes. Espresso 22 is adorable inside and out. It looks reminiscent of an old house from long ago. Inside it feels cozy and inviting. And yes it felt like we were sipping our beverages in someone's living room. The young guy behind the counter was all smiles. He was sweet and helpful as we decided on flavors. He didn't rush us as my cousin bounced back and forth from all of the decadent choices. My cousin loved her white chocolate and I fell for the peppermint. The barista certainly knew what they were doing as our beverages were expertly created. Our lattes were piping hot, creamy and divine. Nestled in an adorable shopping area filled with tons of boutiques and antique shops, Espresso 22 is the perfect spot to begin or complete a day of shopping. I can't wait to return! read more

Espresso 22 is the best place in Powell for coffee. It has a small dining area inside. They also have a drive thru. It also has some food. The employees there are pretty nice too. I had a latte with almond milk. It's about $3 for the regular size. That is a pretty good price for this. If you're hungry they also serve breakfast. This is available all day too. I had a bagel with hummus. It's about $3 and comes with a generous amount of hummus. The bagel isn't that special but the combination is good though. Better food than expected from a place that primarily sells coffee. Other food options include salads and sandwiches. I would go here again. It's the best coffee and maybe the best breakfast in Powell. The atmosphere is enhanced by an easy hip music soundtrack. read more

While trying to find a spot to eat in Powell, we stumbled upon this place. We figured we grab some caffeine for a little pick me up right before getting some food. It's a quaint little coffee shop that has a slightly rustic visual aesthetic. There's a nice patio where I saw people gathered and enjoying the beautiful day that we had. The establishment looks as though it used to be a bank. I saw that they had a drive-thru so this was perfect as we did not feel like getting out. It's not like your typical drive-thru where you order at a speaker first and then get your order at the window. You have to pull up to the window and order and wait there until they fix it. It didn't take long for us to get our drinks so that was awesome. I got a iced caramel latte. I'm not sure what type of coffee bean that they use, all I can tell you is that it's pretty strong. Normally when you get a caramel latte from a coffee place, the sweetness is over powering. The thing I was not a fan with is that you can taste the syrup that they. You know how you get a flavored coffee beverage and you can taste the slightly bitter after taste of the syrup used? That's what this was like. Customer service was freaking phenomenal. This is a staple for Powell. Great location, very polite staff, and the espresso is great. The only reason it's not 5 stars for me is due to the lack luster drip brew. I'm an avid dark roast drinker and I've never had a good cup of it from Espresso 22. But as the name implies...I don't think drip coffee is their bag. This coffee shop does not deserve the name espresso 22 if they do not know how to properly make espresso drinks. When ordering a latte I was served with "espresso cold brew" but anyone that has ever had experience with espresso knows that it cannot be prepared in advance. The shots burn and become bitter. There is no difference between a normal coffee bean and an espresso bean; the difference occurs in the preparation. The coffee was prepared poorly and tasted weak as the espresso became bitter and lost the decadent, rich espresso flavor as it sat in the "cold brew". A disgrace to all espresso shops. read more

First time trying Epsresso 22 and will not be returning. Staff was kind and helpful but the coffee was terrible, would have rather gone to Starbucks. Ordered a vanilla iced latte and a caramel iced latte with almond milk. After ordering I asked how many shots came in the latte and was told it was actually half cold brew and half milk, so am unsure why it was listed as a latte. It was also quite pricey ($9.50 for 2 16 oz drinks) considering it was only half cold brew. The syrups had no flavor. The cold brew with almond milk came chunky and was undrinkable. Maybe their other drinks are better, but will not be ordering an iced latte (cold brew) again. read more

Espresso 22 is an oh so lovely cafe in Powell, OH. The cafe is airy and light with the entire west wall full of windows. The seating area isn't huge, but there's a mix of bar seating, small tables, bench seating, and armchairs. If you don't always have your headphones in, like me, there's an awesome playlist playing softly in the background.  Conversations are at a hush and I feel productive just being here; am I meditating right now? There's a variety of breakfast foods, flat breads & wraps, salads, and sweets offered on their regular menu. In addition, there are daily specials such as "nutella latte" or "london fog latte" highlighted on a chalkboard wall in pretty script. Staff is friendly and patiently helpful and readily offer customization/recommendations to suite their customers' taste. All this despite handling the drive-thru and dine-in cafe solo. I've seen some complaints about parking situation and while it is less than what most suburban establishments offer, there's a cute little drive-thru and plenty of open street parking in the area. This place is worth the drive-around-the-block parking dance, people! Powell is 20 minutes north of where I call home, but if I'm planning another work date with my laptop, this cafe is my top pick. read more

I've come here a quite few times recently with friends and I like it enough to give it solid 3.5 to 4 stars. Pros: friendly staff. Cozy place. Adequate seating for when we come here. Usually during the day. I saw complaints about parking but I personally have been lucky the few times I came here. Cons: not a big fan of donuts here but they are ok. They are not made in house. The roasts here are good but noticed some variations between medium and dark. I guess for now I'll stick with the dark roast. I'm yet to try the nutella latte. I'm also yet to try their flatbreads and breakfast. For now I like this hidden gem in the heart of historic downtown Powell. Will definitely be back. read more

Went here today for the first time and found the place to be okay. The coffee was fine, but not excellent. It's obviously better than a Starbucks or other chain like that, but not the same quality as fox in the snow or mission coffee. They had a decent mix of food items, we got a blueberry muffin that was good. It wasn't very busy inside and there was plenty of seating. Two comfy chairs, maybe 10 tables and a nice little sunny nook with high top chairs. As far as accessibility is concerned, there is a drive thru. To get inside there is a ramp, but you have to go through two sets of doors to get in and there's no automatic door button. All in all I don't know that I'd go back unless I was already out that way. Nothing super special, but it's an alright cup of coffee if you're out that way! read more

It's on a busy street where you either have to know the town to drive around or be patient and ignore traffic behind you as you wait to turn left at a light without a turn arrow or turn lane. The Mean Bean in Powell -- an offshoot of the original Delaware, OH location -- is a nice enough place to pass the time. You might come in for the advertised free Wi-Fi, but you won't end up needing it. The city of Powell has town-wide free wireless that trumps the building's puny network. Inevitably, you'll stick around and order something. Here's a hint at what you can expect. Drink/food: Their coffee is strong, if not particularly nuanced. They have the usual array of beverages. Nothing breaks any new ground. They do have some tasty food. Gigantic scones and cookies make an easy grab for customers' attention. I like the lemon pound cake. Yum. The croissant sandwiches also look good. They're supplied by a lauded restaurant in Delaware. Atmosphere: The building is tiny and not much to look at. Funnily enough, these work in the shop's favor. Particle board floors give the place a rustic hole-in-the-wall feel. A comfy couch can be found in one corner. There is also a loft in the front of the shop that goes nowhere. It would be even better if it did. Allison was working when I stopped in. She is very, very friendly. They have a drive-up window -- an oddity for a downtown coffee house like this. A chain like Starbucks or Caribou opening in the up-and-coming Powell town center is more than likely. Check out this real-deal shop. read more

Mean Bean reminds me of a coffee shop I used to visit back before I was old enough to legally drink beer. Evidently, it's a "chain", as in, there are more than one Mean Beans. Whatever, I wouldn't know, and it's not like they've got some insane branding strategy that makes you well aware it's a chain. I like this place. I came once after a few drinks next door at Local Roots with a group of friends, brainstorming a side project. We drank coffee, planned out some ideas at a table, and in general enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff that was working humored us, to boot. I popped in earlier today, needing to escape my home office, and in need of caffeine, and while it was quiet and empty... the charm was still there. Despite seeing their sign, I keep forgetting they now have wine, and I'm afraid I may come there one afternoon, switch from coffee to wine, and end up closing the place out. Yeah, it's the kind of place that you can get *that* comfy in. read more

Update: Now that Espresso 22 had changed hands and the name, it is so great! I only had hot chocolate, which is good. Though I do wish it were a little more chocolatey. Otherwise very yummy! The atmosphere is so much better now. They've updated the inside with new flooring, walls and decor, and seating. It's such a cute little place now! And the staff are very friendly, which makes it even better! Mean Bean: This coffee shop is mediocre. The coffee is not very good (I'm from the Pacific Northwest, so I may have high expectations), and it was so incredibly hot when I got it, I burnt my tongue! The decor and ambiance are strange. The sofas inside seem like they were pulled out of a dorm and have blankets thrown over them. There was no music, only what sounded like news radio, which was odd...It's too bad there isn't a better local coffee shop. I do hate going to Starbucks as I love supporting local business, but I may have to do that next time... read more
