I have been to Auto Doc several times in the last few years and they are always very friendly, very fast, always answer the phone, and always explain what they are going to fix BUT.... Over the years they have done several repairs on my car that were not necessary and have tried to convince me that the problem was caused by something costly when it was something else entirely. They don't seem to consider hunting for a good price on parts or not charging for labor that didn't solve the problem at hand. It seems like their troubleshooting process is simply taking things apart (again for a gouging fee) and deciding if they look old enough to blame for all the problems. I have an old car. Everything looks old! That doesn't mean every old part is the reason the engine won't start or that there is a whining noise... Once again, the labor is overpriced. The parts are overpriced...And there are always fees tagged on to bring the total up higher. If you would like a good exchange value for your money you may want to consider some of the other shops in the area. However, if you have lots of money and are looking for over-priced repairs you probably don't need then Auto Doc is for you! But then again if you can afford Auto Doc why not hire your own repair staff and start your own garage business? read more

I stopped by their location on February 7, Friday around 3:30 pm in the afternoon. There were couple mechanics working around the shop with different cars. A guy who is middle aged and pretended that he is either the owner or the manager approached to me. I asked him if they can check my engine because an engine light has just come up and I want to know if this is serious. He responded that all of his mechanics are busy or away and I need to come by on Monday to have it looked. I was disappointed and drove away. I had my Volvo towed to these guys years ago when my timing belt broke. It was already 7 years old so I did not want to invest a lot of money in it but, of course, I needed it to run. These guys would not give me a guarantee on their work unless I invested more money in things that they said needed to be fixed on my car. It ended up cositng me around $3500.00 to get my car back and I traded it in a year later for $2000.00. I am still bitter.... read more

I really wanted to like this place. It's in my neighborhood; the building is festooned with petroliana including the brand of my first employer in the oil biz; and, they seem to be technology savvy. Lots of reasons to be a fan. Yet, they also represent the worst of their ilk of shady auto mechanics. These guys wanted to charge my girlfriend $1500 to fix a car that was not broken. Okay, it's wasn't in perfect condition but in no way did it need $1500 in repairs. On top of that, they told her that the car probably wouldn't pass the required annual state inspection. I am sickened by my experience at AutoDoc. I had my car towed there as it broke down late night and was the closest auto shop. They told me that I needed a new power steering pump and a power steering rack because both were leaking. I had my family mechanic call him from Kansas City to make sure he was being honest and my mechanic told me that I should go ahead and get the pump fixed but wait on the rack because he wasn't sure if the guys were being sincere- aside from the fact that the labor charges were highly inflated. My mechanic from back home told me to get power steering fluid and fill the tank up a week later assuming the rack did have a leak. I went to AutoZone and the man helping me went to fill it up and was confused at why I thought I needed more fluid because it was over the max line and it wasn't leaking. Clearly, the rack of which they were going to charge me 1,500 to fix was in no need of repair. Do not go there!!!!! I would not have taken the time to write this if I wasn't incredibly dissatisfied. read more

I have a 2013 Fiat 500 Pop and my light was on instead of spending thousands of dollars at the dealer the Auto Docs were able to replace & fix the problems at a low cost! Very friendly, timely, and thorough service. One my first experience I left my car with them under the impression that I needed a full brake job, since mine were squeaking and thumping. Chris said he would take a look and look at the rest of my car, he called back an hour later explaining that belts and transmission fluid were my issue and that my brake pads were actually very thick and safe, just a little dirty. I asked him to rank the procedures by importance seeing as I was on a budget at the time, which he did, I ended up just having him take care of all the procedures that day. Chris followed up with me throughout the whole process and applied the online coupons to save me a few bucks. Car has been running smoothly since. I returned for a simple oil change today and set up with Dave. The oil change price is kind of steep ($45) but totally worth it because they overlook your car and give you a little report card of the condition, complete with an actual sample of your cars fluid colors etc. . Dave even had one of the mechanics drive around the block with me so that I could demonstrate the sounds my car was making (steering wheel squeaks). Nothing short of appalling. Website states delivery in 1-2 days. 2 days later and 3 phone calls and 2 web-chats and now they've decided they want a photo of my driving license! They've already debited the card. I've had enough. They're also quoting a further 4-6 working days for delivery after they dispatch the items. But they won't say when they will dispatch the items. I love these guys. I have taken my car here several times and each time, they have done excellent work, at a reasonable price, and have had my car ready when they said it would be ready. The most important thing to me is finding an auto place you can trust and these guys definitely have mine. This place is a RIPOFF! Had my brakes done and now they squeak louder than before and have grooves cut out on each rotor. Took it back and they tell me they'll turn the rotors. Sure, get a phone call that the rotors have to be replaced! Verified with Chevy dealer that the rotors were never turned the first time and the grooves would not be there if they were. Don't listen to anything coming from the owner or employees. I'm seeking legal action after they refused to refund my hard earned $. read more

I picked these guys because it's by far the closest place for me. I can walk here from my house. I finally got some work done that I had been putting off. Like others have said its not the cheapest place around but they get the work done quickly and explain everything before doing the work. I own an import so I was worried they'd have to get parts shipped in but luckily everything was in stock. If you need quick service this is the place just don't expect it to be cut rate. read more

They were able to perform the maintenance at a lower price than the dealership. A week later I received a call from Auto Doc asking if I was satisfied with the service. Which I was. My splash guard was dragging after I hit a pothole so I popped in to see if they could fix it quickly with zip ties. I was in and out in about 30 minutes and the owner, Dave, treated me to a coffee at Bungalow next door (his wife and daughter's shop). I was referred to Auto Doc by the AAA driver who jumped my car battery. I took notice of the fact that they had been voted best auto repair by a local publication. I was quoted a price of $525.00 to replace my battery. ($239.00 for the battery and the rest to install, reset computers, etc.). I told the person behind the desk( maybe the owner?) that I had owned the vehicle for quite some time and that I had never paid more that about $350 for a battery. I told him that I would consult wIth my husband and get back with him. I went to my vehicle and phoned another local car shop. They quoted me a price of $239.00 for the battery, and $89.00 to install, reset computers, etc. I went back inside Auto Doc and told the guy about the difference in pricing. He told me that the other company "must be running a special". I told him that this pricing was in line with what I've paid in the past. He started fumbling a bit and said something about that being the price that the computer was telling him. I have spoken with a number of other people who have had similar experiences. Seems like the job was done right but rather expensive for just an oil change and tire rotation.

Took my car in for another oil change and to have some minor fluid/filter changes they told us needed to be done last time. I also wanted the tires rotated, I knew the front ones were getting bald. Turns out I needed new ones, and I went ahead with all 4. They don't carry them in inventory, and the ones that came in had 1 the wrong size. Long story short, it took 2 hours longer. They told me what happened, kept me informed, and at the end gave me an upgrade on the tires. They didn't need to do that! I'm a fan and recommend these guys highly! No BS, very upfront and honest! No one gets excited about taking their vehicle in for maintenance or repairs, but these guys make it as painless and easy as possible. They are honest about what repairs are suggested vs. required for your vehicle and situation. You may pay a little more for the work, but the quality of service and honesty make me feel good about what I pay for. Great service! My battery went bad (as many do on these Houston roads) and these guys fit me in their schedule no problem. I requested an appointment online the night before and they called me first thing in the morning to get my car fit in the same day. The team here is very professional, friendly, and honest and their pricing is very reasonable. I went in thinking that my car needed quite a bit done based on a dealership's comments. Dave recommended that his team check things out and then decide what was necessary. They didn't charge additional "diagnostic fees" and the car only needed about half of the work that I'd been told was necessary. Plus, you can hang out at The Bungalow around back while you wait. Terrible. They wasted four hours of our time when they should have been completing an alignment job. We dropped the car off and as we were leaving saw a guy throw a tire and wheel in the back seat and drive away. We came back an hour later. The car wasn't there. Came back another hour later, the car was still not there. We asked where it was and they said oh he must be test driving it. We waited and waited and the car finally was returned. We paid for the alignment which we later found out was never done. There was tire that was shot that should have been replaced as well. They didn't do anything. And used our car for other work and driving around. We will be demanding our money back. Extremely disappointed and feel mistreated. Never coming back...even if they stay in business. read more

Here's the deal - They are conveniently located BUT overpriced. If you are in urgent need of something, go ahead, but be warned, it will be expensive. I went to Auto Doc for years and there was ALWAYS an issue at every visit (which never seems to be resolved). I read another reviewers' experience that AD said their car wouldn't pass inspection (same tactic used). There will be some exaggeration about the potential issue to hopefully induce further spending. Labor is about twice as much as other shops. They are fast and warranty it for 24,000 mile or 2 years. Convenient location if you live in the area. It seems they charge more than average for parts. It is just insulting when they tell you what needs to be repaired and you go online or to a local autoparts place and the parts are available at half the price. They have the uncanny knack for finding things wrong with your car that you didn't even know were wrong! Makes it stressful to say no to the repairs and I question of EVERYTHING they say really needs to be done. But what do I know...maybe they are right, or maybe I am just naive. I have come to this place twice, and both times they have come up with various cutely packaged tricks like transmission flush and extra costs for things like tire rotations ($22 for a tire rotation, seriously?). I have never paid such a high price for such slow service, and in such a manner that could almost trick any average-car-knowledge person as myself. I recently put together a spreadsheet of all the oil changes and inspections I have performed on my car since moving to Montrose, and this place, wins, hands down for the best Con-service of them all. I admit that it is not surprising that an auto shop would behave this way, but they will try to trick you, with their Montrose-y hipster-y interior decoration, and I know some of us are suckers for that. Do some research, before you say Yes to anything and if you are shaking your head saying "well, duh" then perhaps I am a fool deserving to be tricked, but those of you who are car-naive and/or people-trusting, beware! read more

Super surprised at the negative reviews. These guys are amazing. Let me tell you a few reasons why...1) quick and thorough...my Jeep has 186k miles. At this point it's just about piecing things together when they go wrong...and when one thing goes wrong many things are soon to follow. Chris is super laid back, honest, and pretty dang cute. If he was single...2) cars get old. Parts get old. If you think you have some magicolicious auto, you are sadly mistaken...especially if you buy one of those new liberal cars....guess what...your hard earned money went to a piece of crap few can really work on. There's triggers and dials, lions and bears, etc., that have been designed that way. Your government green friendly piece of crap goes belly up so you'll blindly buy another piece of government crap (yes...even Toyota, Honda, etc, has manufacturing plants here in the US). They are only 'engineered' in the founding country. They are BUILT by unions that have no other interest than getting paid and meeting the bare minimum regulations (because gov't regulations kill them, thus, quicker, cheaper to build, and with a higher yield in the long run. We live in a techie age that is too competent. We have learned to make things fail to produce more purchasing. Common sense. Now, while I digress...I am extremely happy with their precision and honesty. As a female this is crucial...of course I intuitively know, a woman who goes to a mechanic without a man that knows a little something about car stuff is not the best decision. I recently moved to Houston and my car was in need of some major repairs (radiator and water pump replacement) due to the miles I had put on it during my relocation.
