The Armory added such a cool flair to gorgeous and historic downtown Sonora. The food is delicious, the drinks both at the outdoor bar and inside the attached Bourbon Barrel are excellent, plenty of seating, friendly staff, and very fun vibe. This is one of those newer, must-go places to take your visitors from out of town or just to visit on a night out. The music is loud and fun! Even in winter, there were a lot of people out, and I can't wait to see the upstairs balcony seating when it opens for service when the weather is better. One piece of feedback for the restaurant: I asked for gluten free Baja tacos and got flour tortillas. So if you have a gluten restriction, make sure to emphasize this more when ordering. I'm not allergic, just restricted, so i didn't send it back or anything and the tacos were still good. My friend got the chicken sandwich with waffles fries and Loved it. I can't wait to go back! read more

Outstanding menu, delicious! Great to have outdoor, dog friendly bar service. Napkins on the tables outside would be helpful. Friendly staff! I probably would have ordered another drink if someone would have approached the table, although I realize it's bar service only. read more

5 Stars all day! What a great find! We were visiting Sonora on a day trip to the Sierra Repertory Theatre to see "ELVIS!" We came early so we could explore the downtown and have lunch prior to the show. My wife and I always enjoy eating at the bar and oh my goodness what a bar. Timeless classic bar with a killer ambiance. Our bartender was super attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. After exploring the drink and food menu options - we ordered a cold draft beer and a chili mango margarita! The beer was served in a cold glass and was perfectly balanced. The chili mango margarita was very tasty with a smokey hint of spice! I had the poke bowl - which was fresh and delicious (our bartender stated it is flown in fresh from the San Francisco fishing dock. My wife had the short rib tacos - which rivaled any short rib taco we have ever tasted! Both selections were delicious winners. The bar service was 5 out of 5 and the kitchen was the same! Our food and drinks were served quickly and efficiently. Our bartender checked regularly on us - but wasn't too hovering - which was perfect! Can't wait to visit again! The Armory is pure gold! read more

Went to the Armory for drink and some food. Were told by a manager that they only had one server....Could be a bummer, So we decided to sit and take our chances and ordered drinks with Natalie. Wow, not a wasted step for her and team (the had food and drink delivers) big help. Drinks were great, and didn't have to wait forever! So we went for the food. Adult Kids got the Goat cheese Gnocchi, They said they really enjoyed it! Wife and I split The Prime rib French dip sandwich...AWESOME! loved it They had a full bar, for real drinks and a full beer line...Including Draft Coors Light! which is great! Just wanted to thank Natalie for her great job under pressure, and very professional service. I didn't mention that we sat down 5 minutes after a very large family group...Which had me thinking like lots of wasted time, BUT NO! Natalie handled us all great. Thumbs up to your place...hope to see you next time. read more

Walking around downtown Sonora across the street from the historic Sonora Inn is The Armory, a cool indoor/outdoor craft brewery and restaurant with an incredible vibe. Lots of interesting details, a water feature with beer taps, couches with fire pits and a copper metal bar. Very friendly wait staff, Elly, Eric and Erica took their time to explain the many craft cocktails. It's clear they pride themselves on quality. Recommend checking this place out if you are in Sonora. Family friendly atmosphere. read more

Great tacos and the queso is amazing! Cozy seating but a little chilly. Take a lap blanket if you want to sit outside.

Excellent service, excellent food & excellent drinks! The service was top notch. It could be somewhat confusing if you aren't aware of how it works here & you just go & sit at a table. The lower portion of the restaurant is like a self service type of setup, whereas the upstairs is a more conventional restaurant setup. Service is great either way, but you need to order your food & drinks @ the bar when dining downstairs. Another thing that may influence your choice is that downstairs is more of a home style or communal setup. There are tables & benches that amcan be shared if necessary as well as more casual seating options (like your living room or a Starbucks). They also allow dogs downstairs but, require they be seated on the perimeter which is nice, because even though I am a very pro dog person (I LOVE DOGS!) I have eaten in restaurants that allow dogs to be seated with their owners right in the middle of it all which can be quite annoying, but at the some time somewhat comical since it can be hilarious to see how people interact with their dogs in public especially when wearing their animal on their chest in a "Baby Bjorn" for dogs or a stroller/pram type of vehicle. Anyhow, I got a little side tracked, but what's important is the food, drink & service is excellent every time I have eaten there. The selections for food & beverages have always been tasty and varied. The only downside is that it may be hard to pick what you want, but the upside is that only requires you to go back & try a different dish. In my experience everything has been delicious & everyone that has enjoyed with me has shared feelings of satisfaction when it's time to pay the bill. read more

We typically really love this place but tonight was all misses. We ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 1 cocktail, and 1 cold brew coffee. Our appetizers came out before the drinks, and then the entrees 2 minutes later. Still no drinks. 20 or so minutes after we ordered, our drinks came out. I ordered the Spa Day and it was one of the worst cocktails I have ever had. So over perfume-y, with a moldy flower floating on top. As it sat while I waited for the server to come back, it began separating and looked like swamp water. I sent it back and the server was very understanding and offered me a new drink. I still waited another ~30 minutes to receive my vodka soda. Which was completely melted and watered down by then. The server was very apologetic and explained something about a new bartender. She told us she was going to give us a discount, but only took the bad cocktail off in the end. So very displeased tonight as it was my birthday dinner and I walked away so disappointed. read more

We go the Armory often because of the ambiance , wonderful food and excellent service. It truly is like coming home. Last night was no exception. We brought friends who had never been before. Our server Ellie made us feel very welcome, made recommendations that came with the reasons why. In a previous visit the server and bartender (Wyatt) had made me a signature drink that fit my requirements and wrote down the instructions. I brought his "recipe" to have him make it for me and it was excellent once again. For us, this restaurant always provides a warm welcome, excellent food and bit of lovely conversation. Thank you again Ellie and Wyatt for a memorable evening. read more

Food was fantastic! I had the Buddha bowl with added chicken and my husband had their tacos! It's so good, we're going back again this weekend. I loveddd the aesthetics of this place! It was a HOT day and they have inside seating options, rooftop seating or downstairs outside seating. We decided to sit at the bar under some misters. We ordered both food and drinks! Right away I tried ordering a Moscow mule and the bartender let me know that the inside bar actually had to make it so I went with her recommendation of a canned Moscow mule! It tasted great and honestly I couldn't tell that it was canned. I also got the frozen pina colada they have in the machine w/ a rum floater! This was SO SO good and so refreshing in the 100+ heat. Definitely recommend if you like pina coladas. Each of us ordered different food: chicken sandwich, short rib tacos and Buddha bowl. All of us loved the food and enjoyed it so much. It all came out fresh and tasted great. read more

This place was great for the outdoor seating. I highly recommend the beer is all made on site and they have several different types. We also enjoyed several menu items. Even though it was hot they had misters to cool the air. The only gripe I have is the parking is really tight. read more

If you're into restaurants in amazing locations, with cool vibes, INCREDIBLE food, and service that makes you feel like you're Norm in Cheers, the Armory is not to be missed. On an absolutely perfect patio Taco Tuesday we walked into the Armory and were greeted by the amazing Elly. She gave us a rundown of the tacos on deck for the day and she was an absolute expert on their cocktail lineup, including the charity cocktail they are featuring for the month to support survivors of sexual assault. YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT... incredible food, service, ambiance AND community spirit. Mind officially blown. Our table ended up ordering the fish tacos, and the roasted butternut squash tacos. Butternut squash tacos, where have you been all my life? You might also be asking where are the tacos in this photo? Well, they were devoured before we could even stop long enough to take a pic. Oh, and why a fork and knife in a photo of invisible tacos??? Because I had to cut up the massive piece of beautiful breaded fish in the fish tacos. Both choices came with a lime crema I'm going to tell my grandkids about. I'm 48 though and I don't have kids, so that means I'm going to go adopt kids that will hopefully have kids so I can tell those kids about these tacos. That's how good they are. They'll also hear the story about the house made tortilla chips dusted in flaky sea salt and served with a salsa verde so fresh I thought it was hitting on me. read more

We were visiting Twain Harte and was recommended this restaurant (less than a 20 minute drive.) The restaurant is super cute, we ate outside on the upper patio but there was a beer garden/bar area below. We had the kids chicken tenders with waffle tries, Bavarian pretzel, fried chicken sandwich, a strawberry mule and a beer. The strawberry mule was very refreshing- I would get it again (I think I would ask for light mint next time though) The pretzel is huge and the mustard and cheese sauce were both delicious for dipping The fried chicken sandwich was crispy and really good, it came with chips and a green salsa which was tasty. Everything was brought out quickly, our server (female in college at Sac state) was super attentive and everything tasted great. We will be back next time we are in town read more

I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. The ambiance was amazing! I loved the photo wall, different seating levels and open air design. Pro tip though, the Armory is a self seating restaurant and you order at the bar. My friends and I wandered for a bit before we found that out. I ordered the fish tacos and I was super hungry so I ate them but they were a bit disappointing. The fish had a good fry on the outside but had a very fishy flavor. The white sauce crema was good but the other taco fillings had a strange smell and flavor predominated by an enormous amount of cilantro heaping on each taco. For 20+ $ (depending on tip) it was not worth it for me. However, my friend got the burger and she enjoyed it. Another thing that could have made the experience a bit better was the service. The employees of the restaurant were friendly but two of my friends waited a really long time for their food. All in all this seems like a really fun place to hangout. They have corn hole in the back room, comfortable seating and yummy drinks! I would recommend coming here... just not for the fish tacos;) read more

The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is the fish is deep fried. Short Rib- 10 It just needed to be HOT. We came on a Thursday had live music, DE Cutler! So good!! Well it has great ambiance. I like the outdoor seating that allows dogs. Although I don't know why they don't allow the outdoor seating upstairs if you have dogs. We went there with a group of 6. I wasn't hungry so I ordered a root beer float. Now mind you, I've never had one with ice. You don't put ice in a root beer float. The ice cream is suppose to melt in the root beer. I had to pick out all the ice. And then the server put a spoon into my drink that was way too short and it had disappeared into the glass. I wasn't thrilled knowing that she had obviously touched the spoon with her bare hand and now her DNA is mixed in with my drink. Although I didn't have any food, it looked delicious judging by what my friends ordered. read more
