The Architect was recommended as a spot to stop for lunch while in Bath. The architect was easy enough to find with its banners and large printing. I was surprised how big and beautiful this building was. The main entrance leads into a den like library area which is super sweet for sipping back a cocktail in peace. You have to walk beyond the library to the bar area as that's how you get seated. The bar was also really lovely indoors but instead opted to sit on the outdoor covered and enclosed patio. It was lovely this day out there and 99% of the customers were dining on the indoor and outdoor patio.
The menu has decent selections. Plenty of starters and appetizers plus larger dishes like burgers, seafood, and sandwiches. Told they have "something for everyone here" and I would agree. Also a nice wine menu and standard cocktails to choose from.
I went for a hot tea and presentation was 10/10. Large teapot with loose leaf tea, visually fun. Good enough for about 2 1/2 cups of tea. Was provided with milk and sugar cubes, perfection! A lovely cup of tea worth the trip alone.
Two main entrees we ordered were the fish and chips and the steak burger. Both were phenomenal and delicious! The fish and chips was a hearty serving size, lovely tartar sauce, and standard mushy peas. The steak burger was juicy and had a super soft bun. Great higher end pub food that's for sure. The meals were great and exceeded our expectations.
The atmosphere is casual but nice to see a lot of locals eating and drinking here. Lots of girlfriends getting together to drink wine, a nice mature audience. No children around so the vibes were adult and comfortable. Just how I like it. Service was super friendly and welcoming. The pace was initially pretty good but when they got busier we did notice service went down a little. Nothing terrible, just worth mentioning that we had to flag someone down for our check and didn't really get those check ins towards the end of the meal but prior service was attentive and from start to finish super kind, sweet staff working here.
This spot is a real gem and just perfect, I'd highly recommend adding this spot for lunch or drinks one afternoon! Dog friendly also as I noticed they had a bin with dog treats near the lobby :) read more
