Found this spot from Rick Steves's travel book...and a great pick! Just on the outskirts of central Bath, this delightful classic British pub has lovely interior with whimsical decor yet classy at the same time. Service was a confusing at first, but was just swell once we were seated...the leftside is a side is a traditional sit down restaurant service, the right side is a classic pub style where you order everything at the bar, and the expansive outside patio is self service as well, a completely taken over by smokers and vapers like every other European patio. £20 FISH & CHIPS! The fresh beer battered haddock was thick and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside, perfection!, The chips were pleasant enough, though crushed minted peas were just okay...maybe because they day prior I had some incredible mushy mint peas at another pub. Still a great plate overall! £20 SHORTCRUST PIES...wife went with the Chicken, Leek, and Herb...wonderfully rich and savory, with flavorful scent and warm, buttery pie crust. Lovely! Also came with seared greens, braised red cabbage, buttery mash potatoes, and rich decadent red wine gravy. £7.5 STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING...gooey, sweet, sticky, buttery, and fantastically wonderful! read more

Waited for forty five minutes asked for update twice only to find out the second time they lost my ticket and I didn't have time to eat. Traveling is hard when you can't eat. But they sure were "sorry" and offered me another twenty minute wait. Grocery store protein bar for me. read more

The food was fine however it took over one hour from the time we sat down until we received the food we ordered. That left us extremely tight window to catch the train back to London. We had to tell the waiter that we would miss the train to help expedite the order. The food was exceptional. It was beyond difficult to capture the deliciousness of the food in the pictures. Each person in our party enjoyed their food. The Pimm's Cup cocktail was well prepared and good through the final drop. The cider was slightly sweet and refreshing given it was nearly 80 Fahrenheit this afternoon and we chose to sit at an outside table. While the food was a 5, the service to clear the tables was nearly non-existent which is why my rating was lowered. When a seagull literally dove into a bowl of mussel broth and splashed it everywhere at an adjacent table, I expected the staff would come and clear dirty dishes from tables, but that did not occur. I mentioned this to our server who said he'd clear the dishes, but he never did this for any of the outside tables. I am not sure why this was the case since the restaurant was not busy. In any case, I will come again, but I hope the quality of the service increases to match the food quality. read more

If you are looking for fish and chips that levitate off the plate or a healthier option including and excellent Caesar salad (seriously the best I've had in years) then the Garricks Head is the place to go. I decided on this place over others for my one dinner in Bath because of its great reviews. I had an okay meal of Fish & Chips and the service was friendly, but I would not say that it was amazing. I have had some really amazing Fish & Chips in the UK and this was good, but does not compare. My one issue is that I'm not crazy about fish skin and so I had to pick it out. Maybe this depends on type of fish being used? The fish however was flaky and the batter crispy. Also, I like chips, but these were a bit to hard and I was not sure if it's because they are triple cooked, but then I had triple cooked fries elsewhere and they were much better. The tarter sauce was excellent and the mashed peas were actually okay and I don't usually like mashed peas. Overall, it was a good dinner, but it was not amazing. read more

First night of vacation, and we rolled in for a pint and a pie. Perfect comfort food spot before sleeping off some jet lag. There are two halves to this place: a more formal, high end gastro pub, and a casual pub with traditional pub grub. We only tried the latter. Small but solid beer and cider list. Outdoor seating. Full of locals stopping by after work, tourists like ourselves who saw it in the guidebook, and theatre goers who appreciate the location. I ordered the steak and kidney pie. It was very good with a nice flaky crust, slightly sweet gravy and meaty filling. A good number of kidneys... I think that's an acquired taste for some but I didn't think it was too awful. (Oh yeah that pun was intended!) I tasted my son's pub bacon cheeseburger. It was good, tasty but well done and a little loosely pressed (is that more of a British style burger...dunno). The quiche was tasty and so was the (kids portion) fish and chips, with some mushy peas and mint and house made pickle heavy tartar sauce. Recommended! read more

This place was fantastic. It's right in the middle of Bath, and walking distance from our hotel. Yay! I remember very clearly that our server was very very nice, and a little cheeky and British and just a bundle of joy! He was great. The food was great too. It's always nice to know that you can generally go into a pub and have plenty of options even if you don't eat meat. Yay world! So many yays. Anyway, we had the quiche of the day, which was butternut squash, stilton, and mushroom (can't go wrong with that combo) and mussels. Holy bazooka the food was excellent. Don't worry, he brought more bread- 1 piece was NOT gonna be enough for that big bowl of mussels. We finished everything off with the Baked Alaska dessert- and yes you have to get it because it's amazing. YAY read more

If you're going to the Theatre Royal to watch a performance it's more than likely that you might end up at The Garrick's Head before for a pre-show drink. It can get quite crowded before curtains up, but I quite enjoy the hustle and bustle and find it puts me in the mood for a great night at the theatre. The drinks on sale here are pretty standard - wines, ales and a limited range of spirits. It can get quite pricey, but you can't beat it for location or atmosphere. I wouldn't visit here unless going to see a show, but you might be lucky and see the performers in this bar after the show! read more

Bath, in and of itself, is very cool and I'm thankful that I got to visit today. Our guide recommended Garricks Head for our pub lunch, telling us that they offer the best fish & chips in Bath. While I have nothing against which to personally compare their offering, I strongly suspect he is correct. We were promptly greeted upon entry, and I was pleased that full table service is offered (in the English pubs I've visited to this point, patrons order at the bar and food is delivered to table). We were promptly offered menus and our drinks were delivered quickly. My stout sure hit the spot! We started with the carrot soup with coriander and basil. The flavor was outstanding with no single flavor overwhelming the others. Delicious. Three of four of us ordered the fish & chips. Fish of the day was fresh haddock, and it was fresh indeed. Flaky and moist, covered in a flavorful batter, the fish was outstanding. The chips were fried to just the right consistency. Garricks Head is situated adjacent to Bath's theater. I'm told that theater patrons fill the place before productions, which typically begin at 7:30. I'll file that away for future reference. Succinctly stated - outstanding. This is my family's first trip to the UK, and we found ourselves visiting Bath for a day. Thanks to YELP , we found Garricks Head Pub. The service was super friendly, and the food was very good. My husband had the mussels with wine sauce (huge portion with great flavor)I had the pan fried Salmon (crispy skin yet tender flesh, very nice) , my kids had the fish chips, burger and fries, and tomato soup. Everything was very well done and delicious. For dessert, the Cherry Bakewell was a recommendation from our waitress and was excellent! The bartender and waitress (sorry didnt catch your names) were super patient in helping us in decide which beer, drink and dessert to order, as we wanted an authentic English pub experience. Very nice dinner we just finished...would recommend. The Fully Loaded Burger is very good and my kids really enjoyed...quite tasty with bacon jam & pulled pork on it. But be ready for a BIG portion. I love to east here when I am in Bath. The room is quite small (only around 10 tables) so it never feels too busy. The food is exceptional, they almost always have some sort of venison on the menu which is always a good choice. I also like the scallops starter and the wine list is quite decent. read more

My wife and I loved our trip to Bath and the Garricks Head experience definitely was part of the reason. We never really eat at pubs in America, but went ahead and gave this place a shot based on Rick Steves recommendation and we definitely were not sorry. Had fish and chips which were great and my wife had a chicken dish that was absolutely phenomenal. What made our meal was the homemade ice cream. We had 4 flavors and each one was amazing!! If we ever make it back to Bath, the Garricks Head will definitely be on our list of places to re-visit. If you like gastro pubs then you will probably love this place. If the food lives up to the beer and the look, then I'd have no hesitation in recommending it, even though it is not my kind of place. When there are beers in good condition, such as the Bristol exhibition that I enjoyed and they have a decent number of ciders (even though I could not see them) I can just about ignore the foodier elements, just make sure you turn right as you go in, where you can eat (if you can afford to) but don't have to. read more

Lovely little pub, I must admit. I come here with my work colleagues when we're planning the next issue of the magazine or otherwise getting sloshed after completing one. At the far end, there's a really long leather sofa that is so comfy - for some reason, this is always free whenever we venture over here, so that's where you'll find us. Thinking about it, though, I'm guessing that it's the afternoon times that we come here that gives us space to spread out, as I'm told it gets pretty busy around times when a show is on at the nearby Theatre Royal. Helpfully, though, there's a Tannoy system that tells you when it's time to head back for the second half of the performance. Top marks. read more

As a bar, this is a nice venue just next to the theatre and the staff seemed friendly. We had hoped to have food but were told the kitchen had decided to not serve the bar for a while, only cooking for the restaurant. Despite assurances from the staff the kitchen would open for the bar, this never happened and on a Friday night our 45mins seemed wasted. We were finally told the kitchen would not be opened at all by a staff member who strongly hinted we never should have been told it would. Somewhere the communication went badly wrong, so if there are hints the kitchen is struggling, I suggest you move on. read more

Delightful gastropub with excellent food and great service. The mussels were the plumpest and juiciest I've ever tasted. The pork belly was full flavored and melt-in-your mouth tender - with perfectly crispy skin. Wine choices were tasty and reasonably priced. The host/waiter was welcoming and ready to accommodate all requests. He didn't blink an eye when we asked to doggy-bag the leftovers, even though this is evidently not common in the UK.
