I've always heard extremely mixed views about the Pig & Fiddle, some loving it, some hating it (a bit like Marmite). So I thought it was about time that I paid it a visit myself. The first time I went it was the hottest day of the year. Pretty young things were lining the streets of Bath and I was looking as red as tomatoes. When my friend asked, 'is it Pimms o'clock?' the answer was a resounding 'yes!' Inside the pig and fiddle it was dark and gloomy so we headed straight out the back to catch some rays. Our Pimms were a bit on the disappointing - a bit of limp lemon on the side with none of the fun that usually comes with it. The service was slow but friendly and the crowd were extremely cliquey. I've been back a couple of times and have always found it a bit disappointing. The prices are fair but it's nothing exciting. Unlike my friends - I feel truly neutral about the Pig & Fiddle.

I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Pig & Fiddle, it reminds me of my summers as a student in Bath, when we would all flock to the outdoor area at the back of the pub for a cheeky pint, or three. Granted, on Friday and Saturday nights it can take a while to get served at the bar due to the overwhelming popularity of the Pig with the locals and students alike and once you do manage to fight your way through, the drinks are a little on the expensive side. However, I've always had a good time at this place, the rest of the clientele are usually quirky and friendly and it's a safe bet for a quick drink if you're out in the city centre. Must better than all of the chain bars in the area.

I stopped by for a pint and some reading before I returned to London

It was a swanky little joint with a friendly staff and cheap beers. A nice perk was the design, full of comic/animation and music motifs. Quite a place to stumble upon if you're in Bath

The food was very good BUT the wait is enormous, and the serving size is minuscule. The staff was pretty nice though.

I enjoy this pub every time I visit Bath. Great to catch a game. Nice beer garden. It's usually loud and lots of fun! Good for groups.

They have several local ales on tap and some "Real Ale" cask conditioned for a traditional experience. Sadly, there was no roast beef when we arrived so we'll have to wait for the classic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash pie were good substitutes. Just on the outskirts of…read morecentral Bath, this delightful classic British pub has lovely interior with whimsical decor yet classy at the same time. Service was a confusing at first, but was just swell once we were seated...the leftside is a side is a traditional sit down restaurant service, the right side is a classic pub style where you order everything at the bar, and the expansive outside patio is self service as well, a completely taken over by smokers and vapers like every other European patio. £20 FISH & CHIPS! The fresh beer battered haddock was thick and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside, perfection!, The chips were pleasant enough, though crushed minted peas were just okay...maybe because they day prior I had some incredible mushy mint peas at another pub. Still a great plate overall! £20 SHORTCRUST PIES...wife went with the Chicken, Leek, and Herb...wonderfully rich and savory, with flavorful scent and warm, buttery pie crust. Lovely! Also came with seared greens, braised red cabbage, buttery mash potatoes, and rich decadent red wine gravy. £7.5 STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING...gooey, sweet, sticky, buttery, and fantastically wonderful!

The pub is unassuming on the outside but nice inside. There are two sections those for indoor dining and those wanting to sit outdoors or hang by the bar, we chose the latter. Outside is wonderful with a nice patio, plants, and plenty of shade. With the warm weather, this was a popular spot for folks. Service was friendly but limited. You order and pay for your food and drinks at the bar, they bring it out to you and that's it. I had a Lemon Chicken Pesto Sandwich. It was fine but nothing spectacular. I wish there was more filling to the sandwich, it was very bready. The fries (chips) were crispy and soft. My group enjoyed their meals as well and they looked good. Bath has lots of eateries and shops. If you're going to the Roman Baths or are in the main area, Crystal Palace is a nice spot to stop in for a bite or drink. They're located off Abbey Green near the courtyard.
