I've only ever been to Pig & Fiddle for a quick drink outside in their courtyard beer garden late at night (it makes for a great spot on your way home after dinner). Usually I get a double gin and tonic which is somehow always around £10; it comes in this enormous balloon glass that's just fun to drink from! It seems they've got several dedicated vegetarian and plant-based options for breakfast, throughout the day (that mezze plate looks SO good), and even for Sunday Roast -- maybe the next time I'm here I can check out something to nibble on (I think the kitchen closes at 8pm Monday through Friday, 9pm on Saturdays, and 7pm on Sundays)! Interior features traditional British pub vibes with rustic wooden decor; but that's all I remember from the times I've passed through to get my drink at the bar before heading out to the back patio area. read more

I've always heard extremely mixed views about the Pig & Fiddle, some loving it, some hating it (a bit like Marmite). So I thought it was about time that I paid it a visit myself. The first time I went it was the hottest day of the year. Pretty young things were lining the streets of Bath and I was looking as red as tomatoes. When my friend asked, 'is it Pimms o'clock?' the answer was a resounding 'yes!' Inside the pig and fiddle it was dark and gloomy so we headed straight out the back to catch some rays. Our Pimms were a bit on the disappointing - a bit of limp lemon on the side with none of the fun that usually comes with it. The service was slow but friendly and the crowd were extremely cliquey. I've been back a couple of times and have always found it a bit disappointing. The prices are fair but it's nothing exciting. Unlike my friends - I feel truly neutral about the Pig & Fiddle. read more

Once again in my review of a Bath pub, the Pig & Fiddle is nothing particularly special. Then again, how could I ever think differently after going to The Bell? P&F is a run of the mill pub with standard drinking options, TVs displaying the current matches, and plenty of outdoor seating for smokers (with heat lamps for the nighttime ones). They also have tasty enough food. Maybe I always caught it on an off day/night, but nothing about the pub really drew me in unless I was meeting someone there. They do have free wifi and some great real ales, though. I noticed it was very popular with the foreign students (especially the American ones) and I'd often see them draped across chairs and tables, clacking away at e-mails they were sending back home. At night, the Pig & Fiddle is usually packed so don't plan on a quiet evening if you head here after dark. Especially on Tuesdays, because I think that's the day they have live music. Also beware on rugby match days- A couple of times I've walked past and seen it loud and drunk in a way you usually only see when someone just won/lost the Superbowl in Oakland. All in all, it's got a great location and is a nice spot to grab something to drink or eat after wandering around the center of town. I sampled some of their smaller eats on various visits and remember really enjoying the chips. Everything is averagely priced there and its basically unspectacular enough to be a good fit for just about anyone (during the day anyway). read more

I must admit to being a bit confused as to the reasons for the general negativity towards the Pig and Fiddle being expressed in other reviews. I used to work just up the road and this lively pub was always our number one choice for a cheeky drink. The interior's okay - there's a large main room with plenty of seating and a smaller area with Sky Sports if you want to catch the footie. The main attraction, however, is the large seated area out the back which sits next to Walcott Street (Bath artisan's quarter apparently). This is always busy and is a great place to sit and enjoy the lively atmosphere, even for non-smokers like me. I've never found Bath's nightlife to be particularly vibrant, but the Pig and Fiddle is a big exception. read more

I've got a bit of a soft spot for the Pig & Fiddle, it reminds me of my summers as a student in Bath, when we would all flock to the outdoor area at the back of the pub for a cheeky pint, or three. Granted, on Friday and Saturday nights it can take a while to get served at the bar due to the overwhelming popularity of the Pig with the locals and students alike and once you do manage to fight your way through, the drinks are a little on the expensive side. However, I've always had a good time at this place, the rest of the clientele are usually quirky and friendly and it's a safe bet for a quick drink if you're out in the city centre. Meh. It was a good bar with decent food. It's pretty crazy packed most of the time. You have to serve yourself, mostly, unless you're a regular. Tourists may feel uncomfortable here. Whenever we're in Bath we always make sure to stop by the Pig & Fiddle. It's a slightly unusual pub with a lot of character and an independent feeling, very different from the usual chain pub. They have an excellent (if slightly limited) range of beers, and the food menu is an interesting read. It is quite studenty and it has a proper little community around it. It even has its own Facebook group where regulars and fans of the pub can get pub-related news- not many pubs can boast that. Last time we went they'd made the food menu a bit less interesting though- previously they would sell some very odd hamburgers, available with buffalo or even kangaroo meat as well as beef and lamb. Sadly it seems that that was too good to last but the food is still a decent quality anyway. read more

Have been drinking in the "Pig" for best part of 20 years now. Before it had the extra space added by buying up the old knitwear shop that is now the sports bar part. Its a great place to have a drink or two in the summer and watch the passing people. It can get really packed out mind so best get their early if you want a seat. read more

Such a fun little find on the edge of the city center/shopping area in beautiful Bath to stop in for a drink. Love their wall art and unique seating on the inside and the outdoor seating area. Many years ago I was employed as a barman in the centre of Bristol. The pub was vast and a focal point for the jeering chavs and honking oiks of the city. Other than the occasional theatre-goer beating a hasty retreat within seconds of entry, it was primarily frequented by loud, vulgar and crass individuals with all the charm of asbestos, many regularly guzzling alcopops and lager and going all out to explode their own kidneys. Food was almost always served in baskets with chips, and the Old Bill would often be stationed outside in eager anticipation of the booze-fuelled idiots fighting within being dragged out to them by the doormen. The Pig & Fiddle in Bath is nothing like this. It has never been so, and I hope - saluting a magpie of a morn and wielding a cat around my head at midnight while barking like a sea lion at the moon - it never will be. Anyhoo... In a pseudo-descriptive kind of way, I think of The Pig & Fiddle as a really good old friend; the type of friend you can see every day for a coffee and a quick chat, or not see for ages and pick-up immediately where you left off. It won't judge you or laugh about you behind your back, and it will always share its pork scratchings and its crisps. It's a friendly, welcoming place with a clientele evidently absent of jeering chavs. Sure, you'll observe the occasional knife-licker or boisterous oik, particularly when football oozes out of the large-screen TVs. But proper people don't have to get involved, often preferring to enjoy the vastness of the beer garden (nay patio, nay outdoor bit) as the afternoon sun bathes us all in a warm puddle of pleasantness, keeping us toasty on a chilly evening with patio heaters the size of a giant horse. Food-wise, The Pig and Fiddle's menu is pleasant and so fairly priced that on occasion you could be forgiven for thinking that you've received too much change. It is not flash - does not describe a cheeseburger as 'drizzled' with ketchup or offer anything with a whatever-berry coulis or jus. But it's way more betterer than other places quite good an' that, innit. Locally-sourced and prepared by chefs too relaxed and professional to hurl insults and pans at kitchen porters, bowls of organic fair-trade grass at thirty-quid a pop are pleasingly omitted from the menu - although if you enjoyed the TV show 'Skippy' (about a kangaroo), you'll be delighted with the option to order bits of his relatives mashed-up with chopped onion and salt and shoved inside a bun with some cheese and a side order of chips. Bonzer! For those preferring to ingest an alternative to animal-based bellycheer The Pig serves green stuff too. And the odd carrot. And plenty of things with cheese. There's occasional live music and a table-football... table as well. Blend it all in with decor as interesting as a book, and with the good food and the generally exceptional service you'll undoubtedly conclude the same as I: that the Pig & Fiddle is one of the city's truly outstanding outlets for booze an' that. The Bog Report: Sadly there is little to prevent ill-educated plebs either urinating on the seats of loos or realising the function of a flushing mechanism. Therefore it is a testament to the civility of the venue whether the toilets are maintained in accordance with this understanding. A bog without 'things' floating across the floor is equally as important as a kitchen without rats and fungus and in finality I'm happy to report that Bath's Pig & Fiddle pays an above-satisfactory level of attention to its facilities. It would achieve a rating of about seven (out of ten), if indeed I had a rating system like that. read more

This is a great summer pub as they have a large outside area that gets very popular so it's a great busy atmosphere. The outside seating has heaters as well so it's ok to go out when it's a bit chilly too, inside can get pretty busy especially on a weekend and it's a popular sports pub. Homely and relaxing, there are plenty of tables and benches and if you can't find a spot then get lost with the rest of the standing crowd. They have a great little table football game and space invaders table which is a lot of fun!
