Like a bar bloodhound, I have always had a good nose for sniffing out the coolest pub or bar. So it came as no surprise to my friend Heather when I discovered this classic Bath pub that is an excellent example of everything you want in an English pub: cozy, charming, and loaded with good food and drink. Coeur De Lion is Bath's smallest pub, which makes it a snug little harbor of friendship and drink. After a long day of touring the Bath's this is the perfect spot to hold up and enjoy nice pint of England's finest. It size also means that you are bound to strike up a conversation with someone (many locals) at the bar.
Another factor which is key about this pub is that it is tucked in an alley off the main tourist drag. Sure, some tourist will discover it on their quest for tacky souvenirs, but its size will more than likely deter them as they often nostalgically pine for their MacDonalds, TGI Fridays, and Chili's. No, most will move to larger corporate operations, leaving you to enjoy a real taste of England.
I love this pub so much that I visit it every time I return to Bath; in fact, often before I take in the Roman Baths, Yup, whenever I am in Bath, this pub is one of my first stops. The Coeur De lion's menu is always quite excellent, but I often opt for the Ploughman's lunch or the steak and ale pie. It is hard to choose between the two, but I have never been disappointed with however my choice seems to fall...Of course, a cold pint and a relaxing rest in their charming dinning area makes the decision perfect no matter what I'm eating...Without a doubt, this is one of my favorite pubs in the world, a true original. read more
