@Eating.Drinking: "I don't want this to end." * Sounds like a stereotypical line from 2018's latest box office chick flick. In fact, it's a line I subconsciously muttered as I made my way to the end of this sublime meal. * We were lucky anyway to be staying at the @royalcrescent_hotel (a separate post on this later) and maybe even luckier to find a last minute booking for @chequersbath, the ultimate foodie pub, having stumbled across the last available Saturday evening slot on @opentable. * Restaurant: On the outside, it's a pub set on a quiet street in a pretty Georgian building. It has your usual pub benches with punters seated, sipping beer and wine on this sun-soaked street in Bath. On the inside, it's also a pub, very simply wood-furnished with pews and blackboards. * Staff: You are instantly greeted by the friendly, knowledgeable staff the moment you set foot inside this gastronomical goldmine. Everyone knows the menu, ingredients and it's service with a smile from start to finish. * Food: Where to begin. There is a great menu, clearly laid out. The name of the dish is simply its focal point so it's easy to find your way around. We opted for seafood but there is also pork, lamb, rabbit and steak on offer. There is also a strong selection of vegetarian alternatives. * Summary: I've already used the phrase 'gastronomical goldmine' and that sums it up. Quite honestly I can't think of a better superlative but will say it was a 'seafood sensation!' * Salmon - teriyaki/caviar/mooli/yoghurt Hand-dived scallop - black pudding/celeriac/apple/hazelnut Cod - herb-crusted/black beans/chorizo/squid/bouride Halibut - Heritage tomato/courgette/Jersey Royals/black garlic * We paid around £80 for dinner and a couple of drinks. For a meal like this it's nothing, you'd do well to find this level in London's restaurants. It's worth every penny. * I live in London but I'll be back on my next available Friday night for the 7 course tasting menu! * www.thechequersbath.com * 50 Rivers Street, Bath, BA1 2QA * *

Looks like a pub from the outside...but don't be fooled

Pretty stiff place hidden away near the Royal Crescent. Looks like a pub from the outside but feels more like a rather dull cafe on the inside. We only had a few after dinner drinks here on our way home, so I won't comment on the food, which might or might not be good. Very limited beer selection and fairly miserable staff did not make for a pleasant experience, company excepted. Why go here when Bath has so many fantastic pubs bars and restaurants nearby!

The best chicken of my life!

The Sunday roast here is fabulous! We stopped in at the beginning of our holiday and I have to say this meal was head and shoulders above anything we had in London and better than I've had in our foodie hometown. Really the Holy Grail of restaurants as it delighted my vegetarian daughter, my carnivore husband and the rest of us fussbudgets. Excellent beer and wine selection as well!

But I think that's just a testament to the fact that almost a year later, I can't stop thinking about the amazing Sunday roast I consumed with glee.

Our first night in Bath and we were looking for a pub experience. We had read about Garrick's Head…read moreand gave it a try. They have several local ales on tap and some "Real Ale" cask conditioned for a traditional experience. Sadly, there was no roast beef when we arrived so we'll have to wait for the classic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash pie were good substitutes. This is a popular spot, especially for outdoor seating. We sat inside in a cozy dining room but if the weather is dry outdoors is a nice option. Just on the outskirts of…read morecentral Bath, this delightful classic British pub has lovely interior with whimsical decor yet classy at the same time. Service was a confusing at first, but was just swell once we were seated...the leftside is a side is a traditional sit down restaurant service, the right side is a classic pub style where you order everything at the bar, and the expansive outside patio is self service as well, a completely taken over by smokers and vapers like every other European patio. £20 FISH & CHIPS! The fresh beer battered haddock was thick and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside, perfection!, The chips were pleasant enough, though crushed minted peas were just okay...maybe because they day prior I had some incredible mushy mint peas at another pub. Still a great plate overall! £20 SHORTCRUST PIES...wife went with the Chicken, Leek, and Herb...wonderfully rich and savory, with flavorful scent and warm, buttery pie crust. Lovely! Also came with seared greens, braised red cabbage, buttery mash potatoes, and rich decadent red wine gravy. £7.5 STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING...gooey, sweet, sticky, buttery, and fantastically wonderful!
