This pub caught our attention early in the day because of the cute pet watering station, and we had an awesome time when we returned in the evening. The live music was fantastic - great classic song choices at just the right volume so as to still be able to hold a conversation. Better than the usual pub grub. A full plate of food with all the trimmings for 22 pounds. Nice atmosphere. You order at the bar and pay for it at the time you order. This is convenient if you just want to get up and leave when you're done with your food and not have to wait for a check. It's located in the heart of the tourist area. I went here during a stop on a day tour in Bath from London. I'm glad I did. There were a ton of tourists around town but, with the guys outside in suits drinking beers and the bachelorette party inside, this place seemed like a favorite with the locals. I'm from the US and am not a big fan of our fish & chips because I don't like cod. However, I really wanted to see how it's done in the UK. So, I tried a spot in London (Happy Days) and was very disappointed because the fish & chips were extremely bland. After seeing the sign for fish&chips outside of The Huntsman and going back and forth in my head, I decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did! Otherwise, I would have gone home with the wrong idea. Their fish&chips were great. Both had so much flavor. The fish was haddock and was cooked perfectly. I ate until I was full. The service staff were friendly and welcoming. The building is historic and clean. I would definitely recommend this place! Edit: I see other reviewers saying they had long waits. The fish and chips were great, multiple people in our group got it and we all loved it. The breading was a good crunch and flavor but wasn't oily. The fish taste fresh and was perfectly flakey and moist when I bit into it. This was one of the first time a had mushy peas, the mint flavor caught me by surprise but it was one of my new favorite sides that I got to try. We stopped here while we were on a tour, they made sure to get our food out as soon as possible so we had enough time to eat and not miss our bus. The waitress and the manager were attentive and so very kind after a mishap with online reservations. The place was also decorated very nicely and had a cozy ambience. I have 2 things to say: TRY THE ONION RINGS. Best in England and the earth as whole. And the fish and chips were amazing also.

Totally convenient pub in the center of Bath. We stopped here both days we were in Bath because it was easy to get to, on the way to the car park, had AC, and had very friendly service. This pub looks toward the park and fountain (with the original nasty yellow water). It's a large pub with seating both inside and out. We got drinks here one day and they indulged my request for lots of ice (it was HOT out). The other day we got dinner here which was fine, nothing too special. We did miss the sign for the "pint and pie" night. It looked like the pies were large and hearty looking. The pub provides free WiFi and I was happy to see that you didn't have to sign in each time I was there. My phone just picked up the signal from day to day. This is a tourist pub. Don't expect authentic old English pub, expect a clean, convenient place to get a drink, rest your feet, and cool off. If you are looking for parking, go to the cricket fields on the edge of town near the river and park there (pay and display). This pub is just a few minutes walk from there. read more

I wish we would have chosen a different spot. We were here at the tail end of a guided tour, and we had about an hour and a half or so to kill before our tour at the Baths started. We were starving, and figured we could grab a quick bite before heading up to the Circus and Royal Crescent, before then ending our day at the Baths. The last word I'd use to describe our meal here would be "quick". When we walked in, there weren't many people in the restaurant. That should have been our first clue. We walked up to the bar, since nobody had bothered to greet us, and were told to pick a table. We sat down next to one of the windows and we waited. Now, remember - the bartender had just told us to sit, and SAW us pick a table, yet it took over five minutes for someone to come to our table. The waiter dropped off a couple of menus then bolted, and when he finally came back, he took our order (the only thing that looked appealing to me was a burger, and even though I hated going to the UK and ordering a burger, it was what I had to do. The hubs got their equivalent of bangers and mash), and then again, we waited. I kid you not, we waited almost an hour - 56 minutes, to be exact - for a burger with fries and a couple sausages over mashed potatoes. There was nobody in front of us. There was NO reason for this type of wait. And, there was no apology from the waiter, either. The food was marginal - it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't outstanding, and it certainly was NOT good enough to warrant that kind of a wait. The service was sub-par - getting the waiter's attention for a refill of water or to get our check so that we wouldn't miss our meeting time at the Baths proved difficult, to say the least. That lunch ended up putting a strain on the rest of the afternoon in Bath. We did make it up to the Crescent and Circus, but that was only because we did an abbreviated tour of the Baths and practically sprinted up the hill to see both areas. Avoid if you can, and if not, plan on spending most of your day there, whether you want to or not. read more

E and I ended up here after we gave up on finding some other bar, closer to the Roman Baths. We were in town for the Aug bank holiday and in search of a bar for a night cap. Landing at The Huntsman was a stroke of good fortune. I was in the mood for something like dessert wine and E found a Malbec on the wine list. We had the option of small and large glasses. The young lady tending bar let me try the two wines I was trying to choose between - unprompted. I didn't even have to ask. We were also lucky enough to snag the cozy seats by the fireplace. The highlight of our nightcap was the live entertainment. James Paterson, singer/songwriter (@jamespatersong) provided some great live music. The young man was singing live for nearly 3 hours, covering Britney Spears, the great Whitney Houston, Kings of Leon and his own songs. We only caught the end of his set but we enjoyed it. Would definitely recommend The Huntsman as a place to stop by. read more

Waited over an hour and 15 minutes for our food; we sat upstairs in the dining room a few minutes before it opened so we were the very first table there. Soon the dining room filled up and every single table that sat down after us got their food before we did - a few tables that sat down around 20-30 mins after we did signed the bill before we even received our food. We popped in for a very quick drink before catching the train back to London. This place is near the train station on the town square. Resto on the second floor, although it may have been possible to order from the full menu on the first floor. Some of the seats are odd benches and tables. Look for the bartender's prayer on a chalkboard behind the bar. read more

Across the water from the Huntsman are the rugby grounds, and from what some local friends told me, this is the pub the players go to. Depending on what you're looking for, you might want to check if its likely the place will be crawling with giant, muddy men. The Huntsman is a fairly typical pub (with food), but it has the advantage that it's very centrally located in the city. It's near the river, the abbey, Baths, and pretty much anything else you'd want to see in the town center. The very quaint facade is decorated with flowers and just outside of it are some tables offering you a place to try cider with a view. Also, the Bizarre Bath tour leaves from here and that is something that should NOT be missed. Upstairs, they have karaoke, so once again, I'd check to see if there's muddy men there... you might get lucky and see them singing Madonna. read more

We just stopped here to have a couple of drinks before going dancing. There were a lot of people dressed up in gym gear, drinking away, which we thought was a bit peculiar, but it provided a bit of entertainment. The drinks were fairly reasonable and despite the crowd, there was plenty of room to move around without spilling your drink on someone. One of the doormen came around and told us that the dance floor upstairs was opening up and if we stayed we could get in without paying the cover charge. We also asked about the people in the gym gear... turns out they were playing Pub Golf... each drink at a pub is a hole. We heard the music upstairs going and some people were making their way up, so we thought we would check it out before heading out. Wow... it was sketchy, the tables and the chairs on the far side of the room made it seem like anyone on the dance floor was performing. It was by no means packed, but the DJ was playing some good dance tunes. It seemed to be a good place for those going out in large groups as they just kind of took over the place. Jesus, I came here on my first night out when I was a student, where some idiot from the uni tried to get us playing drinking games, when all we wanted to do was chat and get to know everyone in our building. Regardless, of my bias against this place, I do feel that there's not much point in coming here. I guess it's fairly cheap, especially on student nights - don't ever dare go near the dancefloor upstairs, though, unless you like places with a Phoenix Nights vibe. However, it's pretty bland and boring. I'd come here for a relaxing drink with a buddy, not as a starting point for a big one. read more

The Huntsman Inn is right in the centre of Bath so pulls in lots of trade. There are tables outside where its nice to sit on a Summer's day. Its open late most nights and has three bars and a dance floor. The Cellar Bar has pool tables, I remember it being smoky and dingy but this must have changed since the smoking ban. read more

We had a very nice visit here. For the most part, drinking is downstairs and food is upstairs, but all of the beers and drinks available downstairs are also available upstairs. We stopped by for dinner, so we headed upstairs. I'd say this is upscale pub food and we found it to be very good. The service was excellent and friendly. We'll be back! read more

I really enjoyed this pub. We were there on a Wednesday night and found it to be much less touristy and full of locals. We didn't stop in for food but had beers before we headed back to London. I had the Fuller's Black Cab Stout. A softer and more chocolate stout than say Guinness. We also went at night which made the setting more intimate. read more

I love this old 18th century building, especially during the day when it's quiet. A fascinating structure in a beautiful location. My experience of it is limited to hard cider (excellent) and curling up in an ornately carved chair (I think it had wild claw feet) to plan the day and study a map. I think it would be heaven to read a novel there in the winter, preferably after borrowing someone's sleeping dog to hang out with. read more

Arriving in Bath after a long, rainy drive, we finally found our hotel, The Abbey Hotel. It was rough, but we made it. What delighted us immediately was seeing the charming looking The Huntsman right next door with a sign out front that read, "traditional English Sunday roasts blah blah blah". We didnt get past "roasts" before our mind was made up - that's what we wanted, along with a nice pint of course! the huntsman has one main selling point.......POOL, it has a downstairs basement containing about 3 pool tables, which are not too busy. the pints and upstairs bar are standard. the huntsman also has a club venue upstairs which u will have to pay an entrance fee for, in my books its not worth it and tends to be a bit seedy and attract a mature crowd. read more

Do not come here. The staff is extremely rude. My wife ordered a cider that was definitely off. She sent it back and they refused to replace it with something else. Completely rude and unacceptable.
