Never been disappointed, the atmosphere and views are fantastic. The food is cheap and good quality. Would always recommend.

I'm afraid we had dessert: split a sticky toffee pudding that fulfilled all my dark sugar needs to perfection.

They have several local ales on tap and some "Real Ale" cask conditioned for a traditional experience. Sadly, there was no roast beef when we arrived so we'll have to wait for the classic Sunday roast. Steak and ale pie, and a butternut squash pie were good substitutes. This is a popular spot, especially for outdoor seating. We sat inside in a cozy dining room but if the weather is dry outdoors is a nice option. Found this spot from Rick Steves's travel book...and a great pick! Just on the outskirts of…read morecentral Bath, this delightful classic British pub has lovely interior with whimsical decor yet classy at the same time. Service was a confusing at first, but was just swell once we were seated...the leftside is a side is a traditional sit down restaurant service, the right side is a classic pub style where you order everything at the bar, and the expansive outside patio is self service as well, a completely taken over by smokers and vapers like every other European patio. £20 FISH & CHIPS! The fresh beer battered haddock was thick and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside, perfection!, The chips were pleasant enough, though crushed minted peas were just okay...maybe because they day prior I had some incredible mushy mint peas at another pub. Still a great plate overall! £20 SHORTCRUST PIES...wife went with the Chicken, Leek, and Herb...wonderfully rich and savory, with flavorful scent and warm, buttery pie crust. Lovely! Also came with seared greens, braised red cabbage, buttery mash potatoes, and rich decadent red wine gravy. £7.5 STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING...gooey, sweet, sticky, buttery, and fantastically wonderful!

I always find myself at Hall & Woodhouse when I'm in Bath. It's hard not to: the location in city…read morecentre is great, the interior is super spacious and offers a variety of seating options (I've never had a problem finding getting a spot for a midday, midweek pint and order of chips), the decor is charming (think: treehouse, traditional old English pub, and antiques store vibes), and the rooftop bar on a sunny day can't be missed (and, I'm pretty sure it's open all day). My exchange with the staff recently has been super limited: I walk in, ask if I can go to the rooftop, they tell me I have to order at the bar, I ask for G&T (single, sometimes a double), they hand me a balloon glass with the gin in it and a mini bottle of tonic, I make my own way to the rooftop, I enjoy my drink for as long as I like. I like this transaction. The rooftop bar though? IT NEEDS SOME LOVE. There's seagull poop everywhere, the tables themselves are always dirty with trash, there's a layer of grime on absolutely everything, I'm not sure where all the greenery/plants have gone to (probably booted to make more space for chairs)... it's just super rundown, which is such a shock when you see how nice the restaurant itself is. There's a real "Instagram Vs Reality" thing happening here when you see photos on their website than experience it yourself. Other things to note: 1. H&W doesn't take bookings for the rooftop, it's walk-ins only! 2. They are a dog friendly restaurant! 3. It seems they've recently leaned into offering more gluten-free options! 4. Some vegan options available: sweet potato falafel, a cauliflower salad, a curry, a burger.

As a tourist I try to avoid chain restaurants, especially all the American ones, since I'm, well,…read morean American! I didn't realize Hall & Woodhouse was a British chain restaurant until it was too late...but no problem! Staff was friendly enough for a pub, the modern yet retro ambience was clean, colorful, and amusing. £18 Sunday Roast with Roast Beef...pretty good overall! The slices of roast beef were tender, meaty, and tasty, just a bit on the chewier side. British Beef has never been quite as tender as American Beef. The roasted potatoes were wonderfully hot and crispy, and roasted veg just find, as well as the Yorkshire pudding. £17 The H&W Smokie Fish Pie...chunks of smoked white fish, classic béchamel sauce, cheesy crushed new potato top, mixed leaf salad...pretty good overall! £8 Sticky Toffee Pudding...sticky, buttery, gooey, and oh so good! Just as good as the independent pubs and restaurants!
